Guetuh pertama kali tertarik sama sesuatu dimulai dari ketertarikan gue ke dunia fiksi. Waktu itu gue masih SMP. Suka karena novel-novelnya Tere Liye. Semua hal yang berbau sastra dan kepenulisan, gue suka. Gue nulis tiap hari; apa aja. Dimulai dari cerpen, puisi, nyampe artikel. Ketertarikan itu mendorong gue untuk terus improve. Memperbaiki dan memperindah tulisan gue degan belajar banyak mengenai strukstur kepenulisan dan KBBI. Hal itu juga yang akhirnya menjadikan nilai ujian bahasa Indonesia gue selalu bagus daripada temen-temen gue yang lain.

Ketertarikan itu terus bertahan nyampe SMA. Gue jadi penulis tetap di majalah sekolah gue, tapi keluar dari keanggotaan ekskul jurnalistiknya karena orang-orangnya nggak cocok sama gue. Setiap bulan gue ngirim 1 artikel rutin. Dari gue kelas 10 nyampe gue lulus, artikel yang gue kirim itu selalu terbit. Satu artikel dihargai 20k. Untuk ukuran anak sekolah saat itu, angka 20k lumayan banget jadi uang tambahan nabung. Jajan gue hemat. Dari hasil nulis dan nabung itu gue beliin HP baru; ASUS yang batrenya 4000mAh. Waktu itu gak banyak spesifikasi hp yang punya daya batre segede itu. Gue beli di angka 3,6.

Memasuki kuliah, kemampuan nulis gue terendus temen-temen kampus. Tapi disini gue memilih buat membunuh kemampuan itu. Karena nulis, gue banyak diteror, dikejar-kejar, dan disuruh masuk organisasi ekstra kampus. Gue berhenti nulis rutin karena gue merasa kemampuan itu membahayakan gue. Sosial media gue dipantau, bahkan temen deket gue bilang ke gue bahwa organisasi ekstra itu bikin tim yang isinya 5 orang khusus buat perhatiin sama deketin gue biar gue jadi bagian dari mereka. Gue mati-matian mengusahakan diri menjadi bodoh dan bersembunyi karena idealisme tolol gue yang mau menulis secara merdeka; tanpa ada intervensi atau sedikitpun niat busuk berorientasi pada kekuasaan.

Di pertengahan mogok nulis, gue mulai tertarik ke dunia foto dan cinematografi. Hasrat gue buat bercerita masih susah gue bendung, dan gue butuh alternatif baru sebagai pengganti kebiasaan menulis gue waktu itu. Tetariklah gue kepada dunia foto dan video yang gue nilai lebih aman bagi gue untuk menyampaikan cerita. Gue menganggap bahwa media foto dan video bersifat lebih multitafsir, tersamarkan, dan gak selugas kayak tulisan. Gue akhirnya mulai belajar segala hal yang berhubungan dengan itu; pencahayaan, angle, komposisi, scripting, nyampe editing. Gue mulai melihat industrinya juga karena dunia foto dan videografi ini deket sama kehidupan sehari-hari. Waktu itu juga youtube lagi naik-naiknya. Gue coba, ikut naik juga. Dan ternyata, keamanan gue terancam lagi. Gue masih inget dengan jelas betapa tremornya gue karena video yang gue upload rame dan dibahas setiap orang yang gue temui. Gue benci jadi terlihat dan dibicarakan, maka gue memutuskan berhenti. Tapi buat kasus ketertarikan ini gak se-ekstrim sebelumnya karena skill ini masih bisa gue jalani dan pamerkan meskipun di lingkup orang-orang yang gue kenal aja.

Gak lama setelah itu, gue mulai tertarik sama hal-hal berbau seni; musik, gambar, dan lukis. Hal-hal itu bikin gue lupa dan fokus. Waktu juga kerasa lebih lambat, gue merasa lebih gampang in the zone sama hidup. Gue mulai rutin gambar dan belajar teori-teori beserta komposisinya. 3 tahun total berkecimpung, gue udah menemukan banyak tempat bagi ilustrasi gue, khususnya di temen-temen tumblr. Waktu itu gue masih pemula banget, masih set harga murah karena minder. Bahkan gue menerima pembayaran melalui pulsa. Gue berhenti menekuninya karena ada panggilan magang di skill editing video gue ditambah waktu itu gue masuk ke masa pengerjaan skripsi. Skill ini masih gue pertahankan dan lakukan sebagai hobi.

Karena punya basic nulis, gambar, dan editing, gue mulai nyemplung di dunia sosmed tahun kemarin. Dipanggil-lah di suatu agency iklan dan media. Tapi ternyata personality gue terlalu kaku untuk membuat sebuah konten yang entertaining dan lucu. Gue lebih cocok di konten-konten edukasi yang berdaging dan telah diriset sebelumnya.

Sejak periode magang gue di agency itu selesai, gue memutuskan untuk balik ke bisnis papa dan mempelajari cara kerjanya. Waktu masih di agency, gue iri sama anak kesayangan bos yang dapet gaji tinggi karena bakatnya di coding, gaming, dan website. Mudah bagi dia dapet duit di usianya yang jauh dibawah gue. Itu juga yang membuat gue merasa; gue perlu memprioritaskan keuangan dulu sebagai tujuan hidup gue sebelum tertarik lagi ke hal-hal diluar itu.

Gue mulai tertarik ke finance dan baca banyak buku mengenai topik itu. Salahsatu yang nempelnya Rich dad poor dad sama the psycology of money. Di usia gue yang sekarang ini, gue menyadari bahwa gue perlu security yang cukup biar gue bisa survive dengan baik sebelum gue mati. Gue gak mau mengalami stress karena gak punya uang, atau rasa putus asa agar dijadikan karyawan meskipun harga diri gue di injak-injak dan gue diperlakukan seenaknya.

Skill social media dan hal-hal yang pernah gue pelajari sebelumnya masih gue pertahankan -bahkan gue perkuat melalui bootcamp karena gue masih punya rencana buat balik kerja lagi di Jakarta. Tapi sembari menunggu kesempatan itu datang, gue saat ini mulai tertarik ke dunia data. Padahal funfactnya, selama gue sekolah gue sangat benci dengan angka dan matematika. Tapi setelah gue tiap hari berhadapan dengan nota, data penjualan dan pembelian, kode dan list barang, gue semakin tertarik dengan dunia ini. Apalagi ditambah dengan motivasi mau menjadikan bisnis ini lebih baik. Gue gatel banget rasanya pengen upgrade komputer jadul microsoft XP ini ke mac, tapi terhalang karena program bisnisnya dibuat khusus cuma bisa dioperasikan di microsoft XP. Disitulah ketertarikan gue semakin kuat; gue pengen bisa bikin program sederhana buat pendataan.

Tapi gue agak ragu, apakah keputusan ini tepat? Gue nggak meragukan apakah gue bisa atau enggaknya, tapi, dengan waktu gue yang semakin sedikit, mempelajari pemrograman dan bikin program aplikasi sederhana buat input-output dan pendataan, apakah nanti sepadan dengan waktu dan tenaga yang udah gue keluarkannya?

Okay, I watched 'Only Yesterday' a couple of days ago. And it was indeed quite the movie. I don't even really know how to talk about it from an emotional standpoint. So i'll start more technical.

The animation was top notch as is to be expected. It was never confusing if you where in present day or in flashback due to how the colours change in the past. Making them more 'dull' and fading at the edges of the frame to indicate the fragility of memories. But even when memory, fantasy and present day start melting together it was never in question what was what. And man, those moments of pure fantasy where utterly beatiful.

The music was also great, it doesn't stand out as much as it does in other ghibli flics, like in Totoro or in Howl, where the melodies remain stuck in my mind for days after. I can't quite recall a single track but the mood was always perfectly set and not a single note was out of place.

But let's not forget to mention that the movie also made perfect use of silence. Moments without music or talking to help perfectly set the tone for a scene or create tension. These moments stayed with me just as much if not sometimes more than some of the other scenes.

The characters where once again so, so, human. Such beatifully ordinary people. You could walk across these characters in a busy street without giving them a second glance. And I'm so grateful i got the privilage to be focused in on their lives for a bit.

The scene where the family just sits together to cut and eat a full pineapple for the first time will stick with me maybe forever. But not just because it was written so perfectly (realistic). Back when i was a kid there was this old series of animated series. Maybe ya'll know it. "Once upon a time..."

And i watchad and rewatch a good handfull of those in my time. But my favourite was "Once upon a time... man." Which told the history of mankind from caveman days all up to and beyond modern day. One of the later episodes takes place early 20th century, don't remember exactly when. But the family it was following that episode saw and bought the newly imported bananas for the first time.

And that was something so profound to little 8 y/o me. The idea of something that I'm so used to enjoying arriving here for the first time. Globalisation at work before it was all encompassing yet. Nowaday i can hardly imagine not being able to get something created in another, distand part of the world. But watching that, and now also these pineapple scenes, I can experience what it was like for the world to get smaller and the options for the 'normal' people to get 'bigger' all at the same time.

That was kind of a side tangent but it was something I deeply experienced while watching this. A kind of themathic sequel for something I experienced in childhood.

Back to Only Yesterday.

I did not expect this story to be a love story as much as it ended up being. It was a pleasant surprise though, because the chemistry between the 2 leads was quite pleasant. And them getting closer trough sharing their own experiences growing up, while going on the car rides was interesting both writing- and cinematografy-wise.

Also I would absolutely delight watching the people who got their panties in a twist over 'Turning Red' react to this film. They'd go absolutely feral. (If you know, you know...)

I highly recommend watching this film. Especially when you feel you're on a turning point in your own life. It'll leave you inspired if not at least deeply moved.

A perfectly made slice of life in the truest sense of the phrase.

Next I'll be watching 'Porco Rosso' (which i'm actually already halfway trough as I'm finishing writing this) which promises to be great fun.

Just watched season 2 of young royals. I am such a fan of season 1, I was quite disappointed with season 2. I liked the spins on all the cliches in season 1, it is definitely a teen drama but it didn't feel like it while watching. But this season brought all the cliches I was dreading. The actors were still great, loved the cinematografie, the music.

A little too much August and Sara and while I love the pining the Wille/Simon storyline just felt meh. So little real moments between them for the ending to be real satisfying.

I did enjoy watching it, I'll watch again. But I don't straight up love it. Yet.
