story idea: parent career day at school is coming up soon and knowing chris' parents won't show up, he gets bummed. when he gets home, ella and cream ask him what's wrong and he tells them what's up
next day in class and as chris is watching his friend's and classmates parents show up, the door slams open and sonic, tails, amy, cream & cheese, knuckles, vector, espio, charmy, sam and chuck walk in. also shadow is awkwardly standing at the window, not knowing where the school entrance is. the teacher nervously asks what they're doing here and they all loudly proclaim that they're here as chris's family

One of the funniest things to happen in Sonic X is Sonic falling onto his knees, desperately begging for a helicopter to come back, and this helicopter leaving is what causes him to do a complete personality switch.
He starts to emotionally manipulate his little brother into thinking his plane has feelings and misses him, which works so he then emotionally manipulates Amy by making her believe he has feelings for her.
Keep in mind he does this being 100% aware Amy is in love with him and that he doesn’t actually return any of these feelings, but he’s so desperate that he’s trying everything he can. He goes to tell Chris and Chuck that Amy and Tails have gone crazy completely randomly and without reason, and smirks like a little shit when he hears his plan is actually working, they even animate his ear moving as he listens to Chuck and Chris talk. Just when things are going Sonic’s way, Amy and Cream walk into the room and expose that Sonic told Amy he has feelings for her, which tells Chris and Chuck that Sonic’s responsible for what has transpired recently.
Not wanting to face the consequences for his actions, Sonic literally crawls out of the frame thinking he’s got off scot-free. But he also forgets this is literally Amy, so once she finds out he was lying to her she immediately goes into kill mode and in response Sonic literally cowards on the top of a pole bc he knows he’s aboutta die.
Amy does manage to knock him off the pole and, instead of running away like he usually would, Sonic just lets her angrily sit on him bc he rlly just accepted his fate like that.
Why did he do all this? Because nobody once thought putting Sonic the Hedgehog on a literal boat in the middle of the ocean was a bad idea.

Sonic humans ranked?
(Also counting characters that are not exactly human but still human in appearance like Shara ab
There's a lot of them, so I'll only do the ones that immediately spring to mind.
Eggman: Duh. (Again.)
Helen: Should have been the central human in Sonic X.
Agent Stone: He has a degree in simpology.
Erazor: You requested that I include characters who look human, so I guess Majin Ganondorf counts.
Tom Wachowski: I think James Marsden's performance goes a long way to making him endearing.
Chuck Thorndyke: I really liked his bond with Tails.
Topaz: Ditto with her and Rouge.
Shahra: Maybe a little bland outside of her relationship with Qui-Gon Djinn, but still likable. She has a pretty design. :>
Gerald: Interesting as a character in his own right, but not so keen on how he's affected the public perception of Eggman.
Elise: They could have done a lot more with her, but she's not this awful character that everyone builds her up to be.
Nelson and Lindsey Thorndyke: One of the reasons why Chris is hard to like is because of how ungrateful he was towards his parents who, while certainly busy, did everything they could to give him the whole world.
Maria: Due to her status as a posthumous character, and one of whom the majority of time spent on her is primarily about how her death affected another character, I don't find her that interesting on her own merits (disclaimer: NOT saying "the only thing she did was die and give Shadow angst"), and while fanfics and other works have expanded on her, they've been very hit or miss with how they've decided to portray her. Like Sonic Omens. Still, she's nice enough.
Merlina: As said before, her concept was unique, but the execution was mediocre.
G.U.N. Commander: He's there.
The President: He's also there.
The Duke of Soleanna: Probably the true villain of '06 TBH. But at least he gave us "WITH THE MONEY :D".
Chris Thorndyke: Go back to Square Enix, kid.
Snively: He was already annoying, but now he's even moreso because his ghost possessed Starline.
Eggman Nega: "THERE. IS. ONLY. ONE. ROBOTNIK-NIK-NIK-NIK." *drowns in lava*
Sage: Eggman's character has been possibly forever tainted in the fandom's eyes thanks to this character, and she's not even interesting on her own beyond that. Hell, she's not even justified in being Eggman's most special creation of all time, because she fucked up and failed him more times in this one game than Metal Sonic has throughout his entire lifespan. Infinite is written off as a terrible character, but this one is a masterstroke? I fail to see what everyone else is seeing.

interactions between movie and sonic x
If the x crew end up in the movie world
Everyone’s annoyed that they’re yet again in another world.
When they look around town to work out where they are people keep spotting Sonic, Knuckles and Tails and everyone is shocked to hear that the general reaction is: “oh hey boys, tell your parents I said hi” and then they’re like parents?? What do you mean parents?
oh and maybe they run into wade or something and he see them and goes “Sonic? what are you doing here? didn’t you and your brothers get grounded.” and the X crew are like : we can get grounded here??
and maybe the first time they meet each other the scu boys are goofing around on the playground and just being kids.
or maybe they come across scu knuckles and sonic seemingly in a big severe fight. and it ends up just being a standard sibling squabble that came out of nowhere and is dropped/forgotten about just as easily or they’re playing some kind of game of pretend.
or maybe it’s cream who finds them first and she gets distracted and plays around with them and the others
If the movie crew end up in the x world
and first they think they’ve time traveled because they’re still on earth but it’s in the past.
and then everyone is stopping them for interviews (which is how the x crew find them)
because they’re scared of loosing each other the wachowski bros refuse to split up and make sure they stay right next to each other the whole time.
once they get to the thorndykes house and meet up with everyone they are surprised to see scu knuckles actually stay and in fact refuses to let the other two out of his sight.
Ella would absolutely adore them. and all three jump to help her around the house because maddie’s sure to make sure they have manors
ooh i’ve got to come up with the nicknames that scu sonic uses and “titles” i guess you’d call them for scu knuckles.
like for chuck scu tails calls him mr. Chuck, scu Knuckles calls him inventor Chuck and scu sonic, hmm maybe lab coat?
oh and at some point X eggman tries to use the exact same trick he used on x knuckles to trick scu knuckles. this being “hey sonic trapped you in this world on purpose” and scu knuckles knows for certain that’s a lie because of the whole trauma thing and how much Sonic goes on and on about how much he loves green hills. and then eggman says something insulting about sonic or questions his honor and actives scu knuckles’ “big brother mode”

This just came to me the other day, but what if Chuck Thorndyke in Sonic X wasn’t blood related to his son, Nelson, and grandson, Chris?
According to the eye catchers that came with the anime in Japan, Chuck was fifty-five when the show began and Nelson was in his early forties.
On one hand, it’s possible that there was a written error on Chuck’s card, but if not, then I can imagine that those who’d learn about the close in age thing would immediately freak out in the same way that SpongeBob and his boss did when they thought their visiting health inspector in Nasty Patty was a fraud and even more so when they saw him in a “death-like state.”
In the case of Chuck and Nelson, I can definitely see even Amy Rose wondering out loud what kind of bizarre social life the former had when he was at her age, and perhaps if he had bad influences that got him roped into those situations.
However, that’s where the concept of adoption comes in. It worked for Batman and his wards as well as Yang Wen-Li and Julian Mintz in Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and it could explain a great deal about the Thorndykes here and there from how Chuck and Nelson are close in age while still seeing each other as father and son, why Nelson had to finally get a real talking to about how his absences from Chris’s life affected him badly after so long, and where the nonexistent Grandma Thorndyke was in the whole narrative.
I do know Chuck in the dub commented that his “wrestling prowess” apparently skipped Nelson’s generation and straight to Chris in the Sonic Battle adaptation, but I think it can still be manageable since the word “generation” doesn’t necessarily have to mean procreational succession and things like that.
Granted, I can barely imagine what series of events would have led to a young adult Chuck adopting a boy half his age, but that’s for the world of fanfiction to figure out.
What do you think?
I think that it really was just a written error, an oversight on part of the staff. I think that if you have to run with with the idea that Chuck really is only twelve years younger than his son, then the most likely explanation is that Chuck is Nelson's step-father and married Nelson's unnamed mother when he was in his early to mid teens or so, and the situation was extremely awkward for him for a while before he eventually got used to it.

Even Chris's grandpa was more of a parent than Chris's parents. He encouraged Chris to live a more exciting life than his father's, which started the idea of Chris going on adventures with Sonic and the gang, and constantly supported him doing it.
Heck, he called out the parents for trying to buy Chris's love back after he ran off with Sonic to avoid sending him home.

*LOTR meme* After all, why shouldn't I? Why shouldn't I share this infamous piece of Sonic fandom history? Contrary to popular belief, this is not from an official comic. This is page number 14 of issue 2 of the fancomic Sonic Eggs, part of the greater Emerald Coast Comics, of which I was one of the various colorists involved. I forget who Sonic Eggs was written by and due to most of the site being gone I'm having difficulty finding it - I was to say it was nuckles87? Please correct me if I'm wrong. In any event, Sonic Eggs was meant to serve as a fan continuation of the Sonic X comic in much the same spirit as StC-O and ASO are for Sonic the Comic and Pre-Reboot Archie respectively. Tracy Yardley was commissioned to pencil several of its pages with Ben Hunzeker commissioned as their colorist. Due to circumstances, Hunzeker was unable to complete all of Yardley's pages, and thus I was chosen for the privilege. This was actually one of two of Yardley's pages I was privileged to color. Little did I know the impact these pages would end up having on the fandom. Please consider supporting me! ✦ Commissions ► https://jammerlee.carrd.co/#commissions ✦ Patreon ► https://www.patreon.com/jammerlee ✦ Ko-fi ► https://ko-fi.com/jammerlee

Rare But Not So Rare Sonic Moments. Character Analysis.
Crying
A weird topic I’m more then happy to discuss.
Tumblr media
Mandate: “Sonic’s not allowed to get overly emotional.”
I’m starting to think the mandates do break in a few instances. This one specifically is something I’m quite interested in because this is probably one of the rarest emotions Sonic displays. Getting sad/emotional.
Hopefully this essay will be a positive outlook on the mandate.
(Despite being a discussion about negative emotions.)
Examples Of Sonic Getting Emotional
I might not include everything, but the examples I have knowledge of will be stated. If you have anymore examples, I’d love to see them.
SATAM: Sonic cried when he and the Freedomfighters had to leave his Uncle Chuck in Robotnik’s lab.
Archie: The times Sonic cried/teared up was when the weight of a situation got to him, when something tragic occurred and all hope was lost, or when he was filled with joy after those instances ended. Those moments like others, didn’t go too far. (For the most part)
Pretty sure he never out right sobbed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Underground: I think Sonic only cried when he was a little kid.
Correct me if I’m wrong.
X: In episode 52 Sonic allowed his tears to shed with his head turned away from us. He and Chris ran one last time before Sonic left through a portal to go home forever. It obviously crushed him even if we didn’t see his face.
Boom: Sonic cried/teared up in two episodes of the show. First when Tails was reminiscing about the Tornado and noticed Sonic wiping his eyes. Sonic replied, “What?” Then he, Knuckles, and Tails all cried when they thought the baby they took care of was gone. Also, in Archie when Stick’s rock friend broke or “Died,” everyone in team Boom morned it. Sonic included.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IDW: Sonic shed tears in the Scrapnick Island Issue. Even if it was “Mecha Sonic’s” tears I’ll count it anyways because it’s a good loophole and it came out of Sonic’s eyes.
Movie 1: It’s implied he indeed cried during the baseball scene. The sources being a deleted scene and story-board of the film.
Tumblr media
Prime: This doesn’t really count, but Sonic teared up in the first episode when he was held captive by the Chaos Council and had light blasted in his eyes, when he was in darkness. Then Sonic actually cried in episode 7 when he ate a seadog. Either because he was home-sick or starving.
(In the last episode of season two it’s implied he might cry in the next episode. Especially with the shot of him looking on the verge of tears and then covered his eyes in the background of the last shot, but we’ll see.)
By the way. You can see the instant improvement from episode 1 to 7 of the tears animation. Just thought I’d say that.

My Overall Thoughts
Hold on because this is going to be a long ride.
First thing I’d like to discuss is the mandate itself.
I personally don’t believe it means, “Sonic shouldn’t cry.”
(Which has been stated a bunch)
If that were the case, I don’t think this majority of moments (specifically the recent ones) would’ve happened. I think the mandate meant Sonic couldn’t and or shouldn’t go too far with his emotions. I don’t think the mandate existing makes any since, but I won’t get into that.
My point is, Sonic can cry, just not in an overly dramatized way unless it’s done for comedic purposes.
(I say that because of Sonic Boom and the 7th episode of Prime examples. Which are obviously not meant to be taken seriously)
My opinions on Sonic crying.
It’s not necessarily needed, but I don’t mind if it’s done well. I do believe Sonic shouldn’t go too far unless the situation does.
One Issue in Archie when Sonic’s entire life was basically ruined, is a good example. If you’re going to have such calamities happen to him, especially since he has zero ego or mask to hold onto, I think it’s a fair enough scenario for him to react as drastic as his misfortune.
But I believe if he were to cry in something like the Metal Virus. (Just for an example) it could be like how Espio teared up after Vector’s sacrifice.
Tumblr media
Crazy idea. Let’s talk about Shadow for a minute.
Shadow is one of the most stoic characters in the entire franchise. He barely smiles, gets excited, or displays any overly positive emotions. While Sonic rarely cries, gets angry, or shows any harsh negative emotions. Shadow and Sonic are opposites because of that.
Sonic’s overall a positive and outgoing guy who wants to keep moving forward. Whenever he has the time to worry, he runs. Faces his problems head on. Sonic only let’s a small amount of his true emotions out when helping someone else. In general Sonic’s a pretty optimistic character.
Shadow on the other hand is a reserved and serious guy. Who wants what’s best for the world too, but in a more calculated and planned out manner. But for some reason, in Sonic Adventure 2 after Amy encouraged Shadow to save the world, (Which reminded him of Maria’s real wish) He sheds a tear.
I repeat. Shadow is the most stoic character in the entire franchise. Who rarely shows his emotions. And yet he cries.
Why can’t Sonic? To be fair, Sonic usually doesn’t have time to think, let alone worry about how he feels. But if Shadow himself can have a short moment of releasing his emotional baggage, why can’t the blue blur?
Is Sonic even as happy as he let’s on?
I’d say he’s genuinely happy half of the time. Then the other half Sonic’s internalizing everything negative in him. Everyone knows Sonic’s overall upbeat, but we’ve seen plenty of times (In the Metal Virus specifically) when he’s thinking, or enduring the chaos around him, he doubts himself. Sonic has these insecurities and emotions he barely let’s anyone see.
Besides Issue #24
Tumblr media
Even in Sonic Prime while Sonic shows the most guilt, sincerity, anger, fear, and sadness in the show. He sometimes still puts on a front and acts like everything’s fine.
Sonic Unleashed I’m pretty sure was the first and only time we’ve seen him mope for a minute. All because Amy didn’t know who he was. So, he does have some level of insecurities lingering every once in a while.
Can Sonic crying even work?
How I interpret him crying is when he’s alone. Some people theorize in certain instances like SA2 and Unleashed with Shadow and Chip’s sacrifices, he cried a little. I’m fascinated by this idea. I believe it’s the most in character way to let him cry. Maybe even something like X when his face isn’t shown, but you know how he’s feeling.
Even if we do see Sonic’s face, him crying or tearing up could be shown without being over the top. Normalize it in a way that doesn’t fly off the handle. His expression could have a hint of frustration, anger, or exhaustion. Crying is normal and I don’t see Sonic crying as out of character because it’s been done plenty of times.
It’d be nice if it happened in order to make Sonic feel more believable and sympathetic. As long as the dude’s not on the floor whaling, I’m sure it can work.
Final Thoughts
There are other ways to show Sonic’s emotions. Again, crying doesn’t have to happen, but it does help the writing feel less unnecessarily limited of what kind of emotions can be displayed on this character.
Though there are benefits too. Like finding fun loopholes or small animated details like in IDW and Prime. Sonic not crying so much makes the times he does (or may do in the future) feel earned and impactful. The examples before prove it can be done without taking away what makes Sonic who he is. It just needs to be subtle, quiet, and quick. (Or humorous) Depends on what you think.
At the end of it all, Sonic’s a tough hedgehog. Him shedding a few tears won’t ever change that.
Stay Creative! 💜
