thinking about the utena sega saturn game again............theres so much shit in it that never gets talked about it. its not just explicitly gay (textually (nanami even calls juri the word lesbian in english) to implicitly, with room for gay readings of the antagonist) but also develops the various student council characters in ways you never got to see from utena’s pov. touga interacting with a girl who isn’t utena is even more horrific than could possibly be imagined. saionji interacting with a girl who isn’t utena or anthy is tolerable, even potentially likable (ironically he felt like the most “otome guy” route which says a lot about the guys in jpn otome games?) his route also mentions the castle in the sky, and clarifies how he wants eternity too. touga’s route is so disturbing he truly has the same mentality as akio. and utena’s route shows how she is barely beating the gay allegations + really interesting stuff about princehood, “princesses” and “evil queens”. people smarter than me could write actual essays on the archetypal relationship between utena and chigusa (+ the protagonist)

#rgu #i shoulve recorded myself playing the game >.>#i think online there might be every route? but not every ending past the main routes #plus that isnt like; every dialogue option #miki's route also some interesting stuff with kaoru like for whatever reason she goes on dates with chigusa #chigusa herself is so interesting like there's definitely homoerotic tension between her and the protagonist #but her whole deal was with the protags dad #of course characters can have layers but in utena it feels like everything has a purpose #so i wonder if thats meant to signify some sort of internal conflict between her and her actual desires #how much of the resurrected chigusa is actually the original chigusa? how much of her memories are real if she is foreshadowing mikage?#and of couse final option is fanservice i guess. possible since the game already includes fanservice anyway #i really liked the dialogue where chigusa says that utena ''dresses like a boy'' to avoid having to #choose between objectification and villification #(princess that cries and waits for princes or evil queen that uses her own power)#i have a folder full of screenshots but i feel like i didnt take enough -_-#it also foreshadows the ending of the anime #saionji in comparison to touga in this game is so funny. touga is like pure evil and saionji is just #a misogynist tsundere???? and kind of a mess #.txt #rgu meta #<- not really but i wanted to distinguish this post from my other rgu reblogs #mine
