The Pineal Gland is a tiny pea sized gland located in the center of our brain, and happens to be one of the master endocrine glands that controls many aspects of our everyday life. Although it's not fully understood, one of it's main functions is to secrete melatonin, one of the most powder antioxidants best known for regulating sleep, circadian rhythm, aging, etc.
There’s hundreds of accounts written by ancient cultures all over the world on the esoteric and anatomical mysteries on this precious gland. And, although modern scientists have observed how the pineal gland secretes essentials like melatonin, serotonin and DMT (the spirit molecule) many of its roles remain a mystery.
17th century philosopher + scientist René Descartes, dedicated much time to the study of the pineal gland. He represented it as a Pinecone, a sacred symbol throughout history in almost every culture around the world and coined it as "principal seat of the soul". He said it was the link between the physical and spiritual world.
Ancient Assyrian carvings, dating back to 713-716 BC depict four-winged God-like figures using a pinecone to polinate their depiction of the Tree of Life.
In Greek and Roman history. Dionysus, was continually depicted carrying a "Thyrsus," a fennel staff woven with ivy and leaves and topped with a pinecone.
In Catholic traditions, The Egyptian Staff of Osiris, dating back to 1224 BC, depicts two intertwining serpents The Coat of Arms of the Holy See, found on the Vatican flag among other places, features a stacking of three crowns in shape to a pinecone.
Tribute to the Pinecone's immortality symbolism. Rising up to meet at a pinecone. Buddhists all throughout history have shaped their hair into the pinecone shape to pay honor to the pineal gland's powers. Mexican god "Chicomecoatl" ("Seven Snakes") depicts the deity offering forth pinecones in one hand, and an evergreen tree in the other. Indian deity "Kundalini" depicted as coiled serpents rising up from the base of the spine to the Third Eye (Pineal Gland) in the moment of enlightenment.

Maize Deity (Chicomecoatl)
Aztec, 15th–early 16th century
Among the many female deities worshipped by the Aztecs, those responsible for agricultural fertility held a prominent place. This sculpture depicts Chicomecoátl (seven serpents), a goddess of sustenance, especially of edible plants and corn. She is shown standing on bare feet wearing a long skirt held in place with a belt, and holding in her right hand two maize ears. Her head and most of her body are covered by a towering quadrangular headdress adorned with twisted elements across the front and rosettes at the corners. Taller than the figure itself, the headdress is known as amacalli ("paper house"); it is the most typical attribute of the corn goddess. During Aztec religious rituals, actual "paper house" headdresses were elaborate constructions made of brightly colored stiff bark paper. They were worn by corn goddess impersonators. Small fertility figures, often artistically undistinguished, were mass produced during Aztec times and probably served as household idols.

Day 944
Xochiquetzal
Tumblr media
Art by @gothic-damien
This is the goddess, Xochiquetzal. Patron deity of womanhood, love, flowers, and beauty to the Nahuatl peoples. She is considered among the most desired of goddesses to most of the other deities of the pantheon. Some of her previous husbands include the likes of Tezcatlipoca, Tlaloc and such.
She's also a mother to many other deities as well (some I'm kinda adding/altering for my lore) such as Atlacoya, Chalchiuhtotolin, Chicomecoatl, and a few others.
I don't have everything planned out for her as a servant, but I am leaning between Caster or Assassin and with a very charm focused kit. With her not only inflicting charm to her enemies, but also using the charm to add more debuffs onto them.

Mallek uses the equal sign as the word "is", a quirk which, when enacted upon the parallel lines in his name, begets the word Maizek. I'd previously thought this referred to magic, given the motif of disillusionment in the story, but now I suspect the point is "maize", as in corn. Couple points potentially to that effect:
One of the cereals in his apartment is FURY POPS (ty to @momestuck's old liveblog), a curious distortion of Corn Pops
Your hard landing on the asphalt in a Bad End is titled "Sweet Plant"
On the off chance that "Adalov" functioned as a distortion of "idol of", I ran a search for maize gods and found the paired (or else blurred) Aztec gods Centeotl and Chicomecoatl, whose names mean "dried maize on the cob" and "seven serpents", respectively. The latter maize god might explain Mallek's snake lusus.
More free associative: Native American connotations of the mohawk aside, Mallek's wisp of hair made me think of the silk atop ears of corn. So the matter of his ears being pierced, and his candy corn horns being pierced, gave me the sudden impression that Mallek's horns themselves were a piercing, looping through the ear of corn that is his head... the reading of horns as psychic antennae would color his interest in an underground space without a strong wireless signal, maybe
The "exploding buttery kernels" bit from Polypa's route also points towards to a weird cageyness around corn... as does the name "Konyyl", if we can read that as a distortion of kernel. Her last name Okimaw is also a Cree word for Chieftain, so the Native American connection to corn would persist... also weird how if you take her first name as Colonel it becomes two leadership titles in a row. Master Chief ass

Pinecones In Hoodoo + A Pinecone Fertility Charm.
Tumblr media
This is a Original piece of digital art by me. A statue of a woman holding a pinecone charm.
First I just wanted to give a little history of pinecones.
Pinecone In History. In Mexico there is a god called “Chicomecoatl” sometimes depicted with an offering of pine cones in one hand, and an evergreen tree in the other. In Hindu their are deities that are often depicted holding a pine cone. The Egyptian Staff of Osiris from (1224 BC) depicts two spiraling snakes rising up to meet at a pine cone. In Ancient Assyrian there is a carvings from (713-716 BC) depicting winged people holding pine cones.
Celts, used pine cones for fertility charm. . Romans used them for the goddess of love Venus. But there are to many others to add to this post.😁
In Rome, the pope wears a pine cone carved into the holy staff that's used in religious ceremonies. There's a huge gargantuan bronze pine cone statue at the Vatican in Rome. 👇
Tumblr media
All of these depictions of pine cone are symbols of spiritualty; and let's not forget durning the Winter Solstice (Christmas) people have pinecones on their altars.
Pinecone Purification,Cleansing & Banishing: Burning the tree's pine needles or using pine oil can the strong fresh scent. in the south it's been used to increase your energy when you're feeling stuck in life, it purify the spirit & clear the mine & heal the body.
The energy of Pine smoke can also be used rituals or ceremonies to help release negative energy.
Making Pinecone Incense Sticks: You can easily make your own pine incense stick by tie pine needles. BUT LET the sticks dry for about two weeks before use. (If you can't find pine cones or needles you can buy the Incense or the Pine Oil)
Tumblr media
Left Male & Right Female
Now that you have a little idea on pine cones in hoodoo it's one of the most effective charms to used if you are trying to conceive.
How To Tell Which Is Which? To start pinecones comes in male and female. The Male pine cones do not make the hard-shell it is soft and spongy and it's shell closer together. The Female pine cones is the had shell and it's shell is further apart.
Hoodoo Fertility Charm: Get yourself a female pinecone. Drizzle the cone with some Honey.
Next add some hair from the head of the (female) and the (male's) head of the couple who is trying to conceive. Now place the hair in the honey on the pinecone.
Last get a small white plate and a make X in salt from one end to the plate to the other, place the cone in the middle of the plate.
READ PRAYER. Lord, I'm asking you for a child. Your word says you will give us the desires of our hearts (Psalm 37:4), and this is my greatest desire. I want to be a parent. I want to raise a child to love and serve you all of his/her life.
Place the plate under your bed and have sex, more the once if you want.🥰 ❤️ afterwards take that pinecone and bury it in your yard.

Drawing of a new D&D character I'm working on. Her name is Chicomecoatl (because I'm mean). She's a Yuan-Ti Pureblood Chronurgy Wizard. She's blind and uses her familiar (I was too lazy to draw him but he's a hyena named Ozzy) to see every now and then. She also uses her quarterstaff as a blind stick out of combat.

two years since I stopped drawing... pretty much all together, and I've been struggling and accepting and just bouncing back and forth with myself the entire time trying to come to terms with it, and today I felt like if I didn't try to draw at all I'd explode. I opened a blank document, felt the panic surge up, and just. started.
and... i only stopped now bc I have to cook dinner but I almost to cry. It feels... nice. It felt nice to draw. I just put things down and. they're nice. I feel like I know what I'm doing. I feel a little bit like I can try more.
a lot of drawings of guys, since that's what I've been wanting to draw and feeling the most self concious about failing to draw. and then my character for a scion game, Gabriella Parker Vasquez, who's a chosen of Chicomecoatl, the Teotl goddess of corn.

Water Deity (Chalchiuhtlicue)
Aztec, 15th–early 16th century
The finely carved figure belongs to a sizable group of kneeling females that display costume elements identifying them as water deities called Chalchiuhtlicue ("she of the jade skirt") in Nahuatl, the language spoken by the Aztecs. In Aztec religion, the water goddess was the wife of the rain god Tlaloc, an ancient deity that had long been worshipped throughout Mesoamerica. Chalchiuhtlicue symbolized the purity and preciousness of spring, river, and lake water that was used to irrigate the fields. As a fertility goddess, she portrays the Aztec ideal of fertile young womanhood. Most typical of the water goddess costume is the distinctive headdress consisting of multiple thick bands, probably cotton, wound about the head and bordered above and below by rows of balls and two large tassels attached to the sides of the head. In back, the bands are twisted and tied in a prominent knot, the tasseled ends falling over her straight hair. Her clothing is that of a noble woman with a skirt and triangular shoulder cape bordered by a tasseled fringe. The water goddess was closely related to the Aztec corn goddess, Chicomecoatl, who is often also shown wearing this headdress, while holding ears of corn in her hands.
