In a never-ending effort to broaden my horizons and try to cook all cuisines, I have made chicken shawarma with a delightful yogurt sauce. 😋 I have never had it, but my roommate loves it so I made it. He said it's perfect. I say it's delicious. Chicken shawarma gives me a warma feeling inside 😉😋 I'm happy that I made it so I can experience something new..I really, really like it. It's easy to make, and it's fun to make. I love cooking because cooking is love. Maybe we should get all the world leaders at a dinner table or, better yet, a picnic table, which is more relaxing and less formal, and feed them the cuisines of their respective countries. I think that might help bring them closer together ❤️ they could find some commonalities and joy in the food and celebrate the differences. Just a thought. 😊😍😋
Alright, today was a shit show where my team had to be up earlier than everyone else on the crew because there was a last minute ceremony that needed audio gear. So I did not have breakfast or lunch today. Hell I really haven't had water all weekend either 🙃
Now, I'm on my way home and waiting for my flight. Goodbye Detroit/Ann Arbor, your food is delicious and I found some great spots. Went for a walk at the airport and happened upon Mezza Mediterranean Grille. So here are the pics:
Bloody BBQ Mary(I think I really this one the most) the mesquite flavor isn't overpowering and it may just be my lack of nourishment today but it's sooooo goooooood. The olives and pickles bring the sour counterpoint to the smokiness of Mary.

Kicked the food off with some dip. Goat Cheese and Marinara to be precise

The Chicken Shawarma caught my eye on the menu but I had to decide if I wanted a pizza or the pita. I went with the pita and hooked up my fries with the lemon oregano dressing on my pita with the meat juice of the chicken

Might get another drink for dessert and then wait at my gate
[Marinade for the chicken shawarma. First thing we have is yogurt. Blazes sprawled on bounding tyres. Seeds, pith, everything. The whole nine. Haven't seen this one yet.]

My second Syrian shawarma experience (the first place I had it was a shawarma truck called Just Syrian Shawarma in Glendale)…and it was also fantastic. I’m officially a Syrian shawarma fan.
Syrian shawarma wraps are smaller and they contain just meat, sour pickles, and a yummy sauce. While one wouldn’t fill me up if I were really hungry, you can add fries or geta a larger wrap.
The menu includes chicken or beef and lamb shawarma wraps (6” or 12”), shawarma plates, and manakish (flatbread). You can help yourself to complimentary hot tea and the fixings (non-dairy creamer, sugar).
The kitchen is open, so you can see the beef/lamb shawarma and chicken shawarma on the vertical spits. The shawarma is shaved off the cone after you place your order. The wrap is pressed with an iron on the flattop to give it a crispy exterior. The ends are left open.
Chicken shawarma wrap, 6 inch, $8.99 with garlic sauce & pickles. The 6” round thin pita was crispy and chewy. The shawarma was chopped up but not into tiny pieces. The spices tasted different – could detect a bit of cardamom and cumin. The garlic sauce is the potent thick kind that I first had at Zankou Chicken. So good!
Order at the counter. They’ll call you when your order is ready. The place doesn’t have much character but it’s interesting that it’s so black. The walls, chairs, and tables are black. The music might be Syrian (I can’t really tell). Indoor and outdoor seating are available.
