Is Chess Husbands problematic because Julian in in his 40s and Robin is canonically 23 or because Robin's thousands of years older than Julian? Or does no one give a shit about that one because Robin is played by a guy in his late forties?!

Then there's Electric Fire (Robin x Mary), I mean Robin probably watched Mary grow up from a child if her village was on the land but then she's also middle aged when she dies and then sleeps with a 23 year old so which bit we getting mad at? 😂

I think the reason I love chess husbands so much is because of how far apart their times were. Thousands and thousands of years apart, yet they still get along better than anyone else. They still bond over the same things, all while keeping their own identities and showing eachother stuff from their time. And the other listens.

They laugh at eachothers jokes, when logically they shouldn’t be able to understand eachother. But they do. They go to eachother for comfort even though the other person has a whole different idea of what comfort is. But it works. And I think the fact that they are the furthest apart in the timeline out of all of them pulls them together in a way. Humans have always been human, and god are they human. They care for one another, even when it would make no sense to. They’re so different, yet so similar. They are at completely opposite sides of the spectrum of everything. So violently different in so many ways. And yet still they love eachother for it.

Maybe they complete eachother. Balance out to make an average human. And the fact that a caveman and a tory politician from the nineties can love eachother means you can, too. Love your differences, because that’s what makes you lovable.
