Clues; Birthday pt.1

I felt a hand roughly shake my shoulder. I groaned against my comfy bed sheets.

"Wake up, Jiwoo!" Hyejoo half-shouted into my ear. She shook me again but her second hand decided to join the first. Now I was violently rocking back and forth in my plush pink penguin onesie.

Hyejoo didn't like how I was ignoring her," HEY (informal)! Wake up, Unnie!" I grudgingly open my eyes and raise my head to look at her irritable she spoke so loosely with me. She was glaring at me. She was well dressed, her makeup and hair was done up nicely. Oh. That's why she's so eager. I mentally forgave her.

"It's nearly twelve! We have to get there at twelve thirty!" She whined, urgently extending the syllables of every word to express her impatience.

I smugly smile at her, "I'm sure Chaewon won't mind being away from you for five minutes." I chuckle when I saw her face visibly blush.

Defensive and flustered gibberish started shooting out of her mouth as she struggled to come up with a decent sentence, "I- You- She doesn't even- We're not-" She takes a moment to recollect her thoughts. She breathed calmly and spoke firmly, "It's not like that." Her gaze wandered to her hands. The poor child was confused about their relationship. She then muttered softly thinking I couldn't hear her"We haven't even kissed yet."

She probably would have stayed there thinking about her love troubles had I not interrupted it with a compromise," How about I get dressed and you get everything ready?"

She snapped out of her thoughts and looked up at me. She in took all the information then nodded.

Taking her handbag she got off the bed and walked towards the door, "Meet you by the car." She waved her hand absentmindedly and shut the door behind her.

Looked at the pale door for a while and wondered. What was it like? To be so in love you feel unworthy of your lover. To worry you aren't enough or that you're too much. That you might scare her away.

Why would she wait? Why would Hyejoo not seize Chaewon by her hand and hold her for an eternity?

I don't know what love feels like and I'm genuinely curious. I've had experiences in the past that might count. Though, they haven't gone very far.

I don't need help with flirting, I can be very charming. I can be loving and supportive. I have been.

As a helpless romantic I have dreamed thousands of ways to prove my affection and invoke interest in another. Yet, sadly, I have always been the wistful reject. Never, for my personality, but because I would always be second to someone.

I studied the patterns of wood on the door solemnly.

What is love?

It slowly dawned on me the accidental reference I made and laughed loudly. Twice's most recent songs had stuck to my head.

I should've asked Hyejoo to play Wake Me Up. I giggled at my slight inward pun. Perhaps she should ask Chaewon to Say Yes. I laughed a little louder. When I get to the party I should tell Jinsoul to stopping such a Ho! All I feel is DEJAVU when I can't find my SWEET TALKER. I was now chuckling over horribly made puns and crippling loneliness.

"I hope you're laughing at how little time we have left!" Hyejoo's passive-aggressive shout interrupted my laughing fit.

"I'm going!" I replied. I stood up in my penguin onesie and got myself, mentally ready for today's events.

I think Hyejoo had a small gay heart attack when Chaewon surprised her. She wasn't very amused but Chaewon seemed to be happy she got to scare little Jooie. She was usually smaller than Hyejoo but today she was wearing heels.

Except I forgot Hyejoo had small platforms and that made her a giant. Chaewon bounced off the steps and moved to face Hyejoo.

She had the sides of her hair back in a ponytail but she left the back down, it really complimented her adorable demeanor.

Chaewon giggled as her tall lover glared at her. She happily clapped her hands, "I scared you!" A small chuckle played with the pronunciation.

Hyejoo glared down at her, "Did you have to do that?" Her agitated tone lowers to a soft one of amusement as she sees Chaewon look up at her. The two smile at each other.

Chaewonie flirtatiously glances at Hyejoo's lips," What would you have preferred I did instead?" She drags her somewhat excited gaze to meet Hyejoo's suggestive one.

I embraced to have witnessed their private exchange. I quickly bow a goodbye and turn. I nearly bolt inside Yerim's place.

"I still can't believe Chaewon is older than her," I mumble to myself flusteredly shaking my head.

I hear the attractive popping of heels clacking against a floor. I look up to see Jungeun rushing towards me holding Jinsoul's hand almost dragging her. Jinsoul groaned in protest when Jungeun hyperly hopped towards me. I couldn't see Yerim, I thought she must've been studying.

"Jiwooo!" Jungeun dragged out the syllables of my name, "My little Chewy!" She finally reached me and gave me a big hug.
