The Brightest Star
Cesar Queirós, 1934
Today I will tell you how a world as high as the heavens and more beautiful than any jewel, had the saddest and most miserable end of all.
Known and called by all as the fairyland, this land was made of the purest magic. Occupied by beings of great charm and mystery, it could bring joy and love to any mortal who could set foot in it. With golden trees, silk flowers, emerald grass and a sea sky, fairyland was a true paradise.
But such a jewel could not remain untouched... Like a diamond exposed on an old log, several evil beings sought dominion over these holy lands. And through several invasions that caused various tragedies, the beings of that world united to form the Blue Astral Kingdom, with its sovereign being the Fairy King and his companion the Fairy Queen.
All beings together with these great characters fought against several invasions of foreign lands. Victory was always with them, never a soldier was lost, not even a single flower was damaged.
An illuminated kingdom always for victory.
But he couldn't keep it up...
One day, atop the castle's highest tower, the fairy queen was having her first child. The king at her side held her hand, pleading to the heavens that both his wife and child might survive.
With the stroke of midnight, when the biggest and most powerful star lit up the sky. The cry of a child filled the whole world over 12,000 leagues.
“My love, he is beautiful.”
With tears in his eyes, the king said.
“What shall we call him?” the queen, still in bed, asked.
Entering at that moment, a man dressed in a white robe said:
"Omid Akhtar, that shall be his name. As the star that shines today brighter than all, his name shall bear the blessing and glories the Celestial laws. By him shall all spells be conjured, by him shall all mysteries be revealed.... May no sword pierce your flesh, no arrow of any nature pierce your heart, no pain or suffering disturb your mind. With these words, I call for the infinite glories of our prince."
The wordless king accepted all words. Knowing that this man was the oldest sage in all the land, his words and blessings were the greatest of all gifts that his newborn son could win.
However, their happiness did not last long. Without warning, a great invasion from foreign lands came towards the capital of the kingdom. The king and all his knights wait for the great clash.
With an army that occupied 30,000 leagues, the invaders caused the greatest destruction that fairyland had ever seen. Never had so many trees and flowers been burned, and never had so many lives been lost. In the midst of all this misfortune, the beautiful kingdom that shone like a jewel was now tinged with blood and black.
In her room, still in bed, the queen goes to the cradle where her son was lying.
"My beautiful son, I wanted so much to spend more time with you. I wanted to see you grow up, become a handsome young man, an honorable knight, and even meet my future daughter-in-law... But I am sorry... Not having any of those privileges."
Leaving the crib, the child smiled, looking into her mother's tear-drenched face.
"Take him... Take him to the river that flows into the world... I can't let my son suffer..."
"Yes ma'am."
Holding the child in her hands, she was the Queen's most trusted person. With it in hand, he descended through a secret opening in the tower that was leagues from the castle. On her way out, up a hill, she looked up at the castle. The huge monument, which gleamed like gold and hung like a solitary jewel, burned like the logs of an out-of-control fire.
A sad end to something so beautiful.
Running with all her strength, she dodged the obstacles that the emerald forest could offer. She guessed that she wasn't being pursued, but without delay she understood that it wouldn't be so easy. Right behind, mounted on black boars, beings with dark red skin screamed and made strange movements.
The wise young woman knew she couldn't run for long. It would only be a matter of time before she died at the hands of the invaders.
"If it's my fate to fall tonight... I won't let my prince meet the same end..."
He takes off the necklace and places it around the child's neck. And reciting magic words, the cloth that involved the little prince begins to float towards his destiny.
Left behind in tears, she smiles, seeing that a fragment of her realm is still alive.
After a short journey, the child reached his destination. The river that flows to the world was an ancient passage discovered millennia ago. Few knew about its true properties, and because she believed in its mysteries, the queen used it to save her son's life.
On a leaf, the child was carried across the river until reaching a large formation made by a centenary tree, which had broken roots and trunk, forming a portal over the river.
Going straight to the portal, the child passes through it, leaving that world behind. In the sky, the star that shone brightly goes out, revealing the abandonment of his heir. Simultaneously, the Blue Astral Realm's flags descended, signaling the end of a wondrous age.
