These next two photos are from Fort Gaines in Clay County, Georgia. Unfortunately, I didn’t spend much time here because of how overgrown the cemetery was. If you look closely, you can tell there’s a lot of tree and plant growth. Of all the city cemeteries I have visited, this one was in the worst condition I have seen. It’s a shame because there is amazing iron work and statuary there. In 1890, there were almost 8000 people who lived there. Now there are only 3000. With a median household income of $27,000, it is not a surprise the cemetery is in such a state.
