The Salzburger house was built in 1755 on a site near Jerusalem Church Cemetery. It was built of local pine cut into boards at a water powered sawmill located on the creek at old Ebenezer

Located across the street from the Old Effingham County Courthouse, is the Effingham Museum opened in 1994. The gracious staff gave me a tour this week as busy as they were preparing for the Olde Effingham Festival this Saturday, April 13th from 9am-5Pm.
Amazed at the collection of artifacts and the work that is being done to preserve the history of a community, two thoughts came to mind.
First, how have they been able to put so much good stuff in this modest two-story building?

My second thought was, “where did the Sheriff find room to fit the weekend crowd”?

Springfield Georgia-Seat of Effingham County Georgia
Located along the Savannah River north of the City of Savannah is Effingham County. Today the community is vibrant and serves as an extension of the metro area of Savannah. With a rich history and the preservation of many structures, it offers visitors a peek into the past. Today we’ll take a look at the Historic Courthouse built in 1908. A new courthouse serves the community today as a judicial complex while the historic building still houses other administrative offices. The courtroom has also been used in movies, one being “The Gift” released in 2001.

The courtroom now appears silent, but I can only imagine some of the drama that went on when the seats were filled with witnesses, defendants. and lawyers
