Dazzler originalmente originalmente iba a ser una superheroina negra basada en Grace Jones y Diana Ross, era descrita como LA REINA DEL DISCO.
Dazzler fue una comisión por Casablanca Récords a finales de los 70 como una promoción entre Marvel Comics y la disquera. Marvel crearía una superheroina cantante mientras Casablanca produciría a una cantante en la vida real. Inicialmente nadie quería involucrarse con el proyecto, al final del día Roger Stern concibió el nombre de Dazzler mientras que John Romita Jr. proveyó el diseño.
John Romita Jr. creó a Dazzler a semejanza de la modelo, actriz y cantante Grace Jones, pero fue obligado a cambiar el aspecto al personaje debido a que representantes de Filmworks querían promover a la modelo Bo Derek, así que forzaron el cambio de imagen de Dazzler para que se pareciera a Derek.
El personaje tenia un tour entero en todos los cómics populares de Marvel debido al acuerdo con Casablanca Récords, Dazzler debutó en los cómics de Uncanny X Men durante la Saga de Fénix así revelando al personaje como una mutante, hubo problemas creativos entre Marvel y Casablanca hasta que eventualmente se salieron del proyecto debido a problemas financieros dejando a Marvel con un personaje bastante publicitado. Stan Lee y Jim Shooter decidieron darle una serie propia a Dazzler debido a su confianza en el personaje y terminó teniendo un run bastante sólido de 40 números.

“Spinning Gold,” the Story of Casablanca Records, Hits Theaters March 31
The costumes are bad.
The acting appears to be over-the-top.
And the story - that of Casablanca Records - told in “Spinning Gold” is described as one “so unbelievable that it can only be true.”
The label, broke and in trouble with criminal elements, was home to KISS, Donna Summer, Parliament, Gladys Knight, the Isley Brothers, the Village People, Bill Withers and others. The trailer finds Knight rejecting a song called “Midnight Plane to Houston;” the Village People trying to learn how to dance; and KISS both with and without makeup.
Trailers are supposed to cull the best of a movie and the best trailers can often make flicks that ultimately stink seem desirable up front. It’s impossible to say whether the “Spinning Gold” trailer culled the best, but it’s easy to say it doesn’t make the flick seem desirable up front.
