Just some thoughts on almost driver team pairings and the potential butterfly effects from each, all very much AU.

Lewis Hamilton decided Mercedes was just too big a risk from McLaren in 2013. This resulted in their second choice (Hulk) joining Nico Rosberg instead, both giving Hulk podiums and wins and giving Rosberg the 2014 championship a couple years ahead of schedule. Maybe Lewis as Niki Lauda’s number 1 choice in a fading McLaren still joins Mercedes in 2015 but he’s joining a team where Nico is their most recent champion and as such their competition over the next few years is less resentful and Nico has the confidence to fight without mind games . In short brocedes but they were both champions before becoming teammates and it changes everything.

Carrying on from this thought in normal 2016 Nico Rosberg tells Toto he’s retiring at the end of the season regardless of the outcome far earlier than he actually does and they do manage to sign Hulk before he signs with Renault again ending his podium drought.

Toto gets his wish and when Valteri is struggling in 2018 on his one year contracts he actually does manage to sign Max Verstappen from 2019. Does this mean there’s a Max v Lewis championship battle ahead of schedule? I can definitely see it for 2020 in the HAM-BOT-VER podium era as well as 2021 of course. Knock on effects involve Daniel Ricciardo staying on at Red Bull and although I can’t see him beating Lewis or Max in 2021 the dominance of the car in 2022/3 may have made him a world champion if losing his edge was a result of his McLaren days rather than a natural progression. If it was a natural progression it is also more likely that Charles could have had a proper shot at the championship in 2022 as he did beat Checo (barely) even with Ferrari being Ferrari that year and it would be interesting to see how dominant Red Bull would have been in 2023 potentially without a driver that’s 15 seconds ahead- I can see multiple race winners for a start even if they get the championship.

A long shot that would likely never have happened but Sebastian Vettel returns to Red Bull in 2021. Ferrari drops him early on in 2020 (let’s say Checo never won that glorious race and he stays on at what becomes Aston Martin for a straightforward swap) and Red Bull was very much looking for a more experienced driver and what’s a better storyline than having Seb return to partner Max? This has ramifications of if Seb got his edge back and it was a three way title fight in 2021 plus he stays longer in the sport with a fast car, or if he was more a Checo/Valteri figure but managed to take valuable points off Lewis (let’s say Silverstone) for a less controversial end to the championship. You also get more of a relationship between Max and Seb instead of just parallels and likely some weirdness from Charles about that too. It’s definitely a bit of a middle finger to Ferrari as well.

The Ferrari Driver Academy does the sensible thing and does not listen to Haas about wanting German sponsorship. Thus Mick goes to partner Kimi at Alfa Romeo instead and gets a more functional team to develop in. Would definitely be curious to see if that would have made a difference!

Ron Dennis does not put a rookie in the fastest car on the grid but still speed runs his progression. As such Fernando gets his third world championship and Lewis still gets his a year later (sorry Kimi).

Oscar Piastri does in fact go to Alpine. This could mean Daniel Ricciardo stays on another year at McLaren with no broken contract when the car actually does get fast (would be interesting to see if he could make that work or not) and also that they might have a spare seat in 2025 where they would court one of their favourite sons for a Carlando reunion in a McLaren that could potentially fight Ferrari long term. Alternatively Alpine is breaking apart at the seems and Mark Webber still does his a plus managing and gets Oscar out of there for 2024 anyway. For 2023 it would mean that Pierre Gasly stays on at Alpha Tauri and that whole mess of Alpha Tauri musical chairs is avoided.

BONUS. Honda pushes for Max to join Aston Martin in 2026 just as he’s potentially looking for an out from Red Bull amidst new engine regulations and an uncomfortable environment. We know they want to work with Max again already. There may not be a championship fight but we do get Alonso and Max as a chaotic and sensational teammate pairing doing more than the car is capable of and a team where all drivers, manufacturers, and financial backers are properly pushing in the right direction. Or maybe he joins after Fernando takes a step away from driving and is in the back room pulling in those points with Lance still around.

BONUS. I just like to think of the pure chaos that would be a George and Max teammate pairing that is not going to happen but would be pure gold. Max gets infinitely annoyed at Mercedes for not knowing how to build a car but has enough experience fighting for wins and podiums in previous not too competitive Red Bull cars that he makes the best of it but George makes it very very hard at times and he is so not used to a teammate that won’t just get out of his way at this point that the “princess dickhead” tiffs become very common. George has a bunch of resentment that he’s not treated as first driver even now and from his side he’s not about to let Max pass just because he’s Max Verstappen and it’s just very funny to watch. Alternatively (in very much crack territory here) Horner has enough of Toto posturing about Max and signs Checo for one more year before stealing George in 2026. Toto shows up for a duel at dawn.

What if it was Charlie and Bella that switched bodies upon Bella's arrival at Forks?

Oh, god, the awkwardness.

The only thing worse than being a shy, virgin teenaged girl in her father's body, having to figure out how dress in the morning and pee, is being a middle-aged man in his teenaged daughter's body.

Charlie and Bella are both shy and awkward people and it's very possible they would just die. Both of them. The embarrassment might just prove too much to handle.

If, however, it didn't, and they have to live like this...

Bella's education can't be put on hold, and Charlie can't afford to stop going to work.

They'd have to impersonate each other in their respective zones - Charlie goes to high school and brings the homework back to Bella, and Bella goes to work for Charlie and brings the paperwork home. At home they suffer terribly under the awkwardness of it all.

Bella as Chief Swan

She goes to work, and has no idea what she's doing. Someone is drunk in public and needs escorting home? Bella reeeeally doesn't want to be the one to do that. Or should she be arresting them?

She performs poorly at work, and relies completely on her colleagues for even basic judgement calls. Which is bad because she's supposed to be the sheriff, not them. From being a seasoned cop, chief Swan has suddenly become a jumpy rookie.

Charlie, hearing about this at home, is tearing his hair out and seriously worried about losing his job over this.

He has to tell Bella to take out a sick leave. She jumps on that.

He goes to school, and is every bit as awkward as the new girl in class as Bella is, only with the added dimension that he's hanging around his friends' kids and that's... it's weird, it's just weird.

Weirder still is Biology class.

He's always had a high opinion of the Cullens. It's a good, wholesome family.

Or so he thought.

There is something wrong with that Cullen kid.

Charlie spends that Biology class feeling increasingly alarmed by Edward's behavior.

When Edward takes a leave of absence for a week after that he's not sure what to think. It's not enough to send Bella to have a chat with the boy's father, he'd only be putting more stress on his already stressed out daughter, but... Charlie doesn't like this. He doesn't like this at all.

Edward returns to schoo, and starts making small talk with Charlie, suddenly Mr. Polite.

It becomes real clear to Charlie, real quick, as Edward asks questions and is interested in Bella, that this kid is flirting with his daughter.

Oh, no. No. No for all the reasons. This kid is a creep, he looks creepy, and even if he was alright, Charlie absolutely cannot encourage any romantic endeavors while in his daughter's body. Oh no.

He cuts off Edward's questions with a polite, but firm "Sorry, not interested."

Edward is agog.

He is agog, astonished, mortified, and offended.

Who does this girl think she is?!

He shuts right up, and spends the rest of the day stewing. So this is what's happening in this girl's brain. It's not that she's not talking to the other students because she's mysterious and on a higher mental plane, nope, she's just that much of a stuck up.

"Not interested"?!

He recovers well enough, or, well enough to go talk to her after school that day.

He's standing by her car when she gets to it, smiling crookedly. "Hello, Bella," he murmurs, leaning against the driver door. (Can't have her leave before they've talked.)

Charlie blanches.

His instincts were right about this kid.

He finds himself suddenly glad he and Bella swapped bodies. He's an adult and a cop, he knows how to deal with this kind of situation. Bella is safe elsewhere.

This kid can look forward to a juvenile restraining order.

"Hello, Cullen," he says civilly, not wanting to escalate the situation. "Would you please move?"

Edward's boyish smile widens. "I just want a quick word with you, if that's alright," he says, not moving. He lowers his chin, and looks up at Charlie through his eyelashes. "It seems I gave you the wrong idea earlier."

Is this the kid's idea of making like he's not flirting with Charlie's daughter?

"I see," is all Charlie says, and throws a pointed look at the car door. "Look, I really do need to leave. I have to be at work in fifteen minutes."

Edward's lip twitches. Does she really.

At this point, he doesn't want her to get away so easy, if only out of spite. Again, who does this girl think she is.

"How about I give you a ride?" he asks politely, still smiling. Nevermind that he knows her scent would become overwhelmingly strong if they were in a car together. It's overwhelmingly strong as it is.

God, that scent.

Charlie, meanwhile, hearing those words, watching that kid's eyes look less and less human by the minute, is suddenly wishing he had a tazer. Scratch that, a gun.

Thank god it's him in this situation, and not his daughter.

"No thank you," he says tightly.

Well then.

Edward tried, he really did.

He gave her several chances.

All too aware of the many witnesses in the parking lot he lets Bella get into her car, and then once she parks her house in the driveway (of course she was lying about work!) and no one is there to see, he whisks her away to be killed in the woods.

The aftermath

Charlie-as-Bella is murdered in the woods, it's horrible, then suddenly he's back in his own body.

He tries to find the place he was taken to, desperate to find her, to find something, but Edward was moving at a pace where he couldn't see at all where he was going.

A funeral is held.

The Cullens show up, Edward sporting a pair of black aviators.

He goes to Billy, tells him what happened, that he was right about the Cullens being demons. They killed his daughter, and god knows who else they're going to kill.

Billy is horrified, but ultimately not surprised. The Cullens were lying about their intentions, then.

The treaty is void, and the Cullens have to die.

As Sam and others start phasing, they start preparing for war.

And this is where I'll leave this AU of, as we're headed towards a bloodbath.

outlaw au: Wild West au with dark the Sheriff of a small town and anti the outlaw head of an outlaw gang.

Town

Host- mayor/ runs an inn

Anti- leader of the outlaws

[ anti is the leader of the outlaws, he grew up in outlaw life, orphaned at a young age anti grew up in a traveling band of bandits and swindlers, at 16 a heist went wrong and he got injured with his slashed throat. His old gang left him to die, he was found by chase and a young henrick who saved his life after he heals he stays with henrick and chase whom he finds out are on the run as well. In the years leading up to the story antis gang takes on other members, other runaways and swindlers even some kids. they tried living peaceful for the first few years but after being attacked multiple times by bounty hunters and rival bandits they earned a rather bloody reputation. Anti has killed before he prefers his knives over gunfights, he is skilled in knife throwing. Anti rides a grey and black mustang Named Altair, a wild bratty horse who bucks riders he doesn’t like, he likes anti the best a Robbie second best, he dislikes henrick and disapproves of dark at first.]

Phantom and mare - twin circus runaways who have a flare for the dramatic [ phantom and mare were con artist from the get go, they lived with a traveling circus for the first half of their lives, using the fact of being twins to their advantage phantom and mare would perform sideshow acts as well as main stage shows, the shows would consist of superstitious ‘twinsie’ acts (finishing each other’s thoughts, tricks, appearing to swap items etc) the twins also pickpocketed while they preformed, while one twin kept the crowd entertained, the other worked his way through the crowd snatching coin purses and jewelry. Unfortunately the greedy ringleader demanded most the profit from the performers so the twins were always strapped for cash. One night after earning(and stealing) a small fortune for themselves phantom and mare decided to disobey the ringmaster, almost instantly their money was taken and they were kicked out of the circus with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Angered about the treatment they’d been on the receiving end for the better half of their lives phantom and mare plotted revenge. The twins followed the circus to its next location and waited til nightfall, once they were sure the cost was clear, phantom and mare split up, phantom looted and stole almost all the money the ringmaster had as well as recovered their stolen property while mare poisoned the ringmaster in his sleep. The two then road off on two circus trained horses named ruby and cyclone. They became two notorious outlaws, robbing stagecoaches and bank cars, they had a code to never rob or kill the poor or innocent, but railroads tycoon were neither of those so they were often the twins target. One day they found themselves in a lot of hot water, wounded and running from a bounty hunter, they took a wrong turn and found themselves starring at a dead end below a tall cliff. As the hunter got closer they braced them selves for the end when a shot rang out. Opening their eyes they watched as the bounty hunter dropped dead in front of them. Looking above at the top of the cliff was anti, his pistol drawn and smoking. Soon the twins found themselves surrounded by antis posey, their wounds being tended to by henrick. After hearing their story anti offered them a spot in his band of runaway misfits and they excepted. ]

Phantom is a skilled illusionist and handy with throwing knives, he and anti often trade tricks and have contests between them. Phantom is a smooth talker and a well seasoned trickster he is an expert poker player even tho he cheats every once and a while. Phantoms strongest when mare is by his side

(Phantom rides a redish brown mare named ruby, a cocky horse with circus training, she is one of the fastest of the outlaw horses and the most nimble)

Mare is a gifted gunslinger and trick rider, he’s a fast agile acrobatic person with a gifted singing voice, mare often preformed music for the circus and now sings the best campfire songs. Mare is slightly stronger than phantom often doing more of the dirty work in their partnership but he is no less clever than his twin. He’s hard to catch and crafty in a fight.

He is even stronger with phantom by his side

( mare rides a blue roan mustang named cyclone, a brawny horse with circus training he is an athletic horse known for his jumping tricks and aloof attitude)

Henrick - is the unofficial doctor of the outlaws, [ loosing his parents at a young age henrick was sent to live with his alcoholic uncle, to escape the abuse henrick apprenticed at the local physician’s Office, there he found that he loved to heal people and decided to study medicine, his uncle however made it painfully clear he disapproved and often took his anger out on henrick, one day a man by the name of chase rides into town and gets a job cleaning the barbershop/doctors office, henrick befreinds chase over the corse of a month or so until one day he hears a a rumor that chase is actually a criminal, henrick goes to confront chase but finds him getting ready to leave town, he learns the truth about how chase was falsely accused by his awful ex wife and decides to leave his cruel uncle and continue studding medicine with chase. Henrick rides a white and grey pinto mare named nightingale

She is a fast motherly horse, she can be a great judge of character and very stubborn if she knows something is wrong ]

Mad- a inventor who travels with the outlaws

Chase- looks after the group and the two kids second in command [chase was a rancher who ranched horses and cattle, he had a wife and two kids. His ranch was located is a small western town called dry gulch, thanks to a drought and cattle Rustlers his ranch was going to be reclaimed by the greedy banker of the town and his wife was having an affair with the corrupt sherif, one day while he was tending the cattle his son was injured by one of the bulls and died from his wounds, chase was devastated. Stacy (his wife) blamed him for the sons death, she claimed he was a murder who sent the bull after their son (she wanted to get out of her marriage to him so she could marry the Sheriff) the corrupt Sheriff agreed with her and said for chase to leave by sundown or be arrested for murder. Chase packed his bags and hitched his horse up then road out of town for good, even though he did exactly as the sheriff said the corrupt sheriff put up wanted posters for his arrest. After leaving chase started to hop from town to town taking on what ever work he could find and leaving the moment any news would spread about him would surface. In one of the towns he worked at a barber shop/ local doctors where he met a young henrick who was apprenticing in the medical field and his abusive alcoholic uncle. Chase befriended henrick , helping him with patients and making sure he was safe from the uncles drunken episodes. One day just like the other towns rumors about chase started to spread so he got packed up, right before he left henrick confronted him about the rumors, learned the truth about chase and decided to leave with him to pursue his knowledge and one day become a real doctor.

Chase rides a chestnut appaloosa mustang named whiskey, whiskey is a gentle horse he lets just about anyone ride him but loves chase the most, chase raised whiskey from a colt back on his old ranch.]

Blank and Robbie, two kids they adopted into the group to get them away from a hard life

Dark runs a small town in the western frontier, it’s just a place to pass through but everyone who stays finds it home. Darks reputation as a heartless bounty hunter and Wilford gunfight if skills keeps most the trouble out of town

SidGeno Parent Trap AU!

Will someone please write this i stayed up till 1 aimlessly typing this, ive already fleshed it out for you pleaseee

So Sid and Geno played together as Rookies for the Penguins in the 2005-2009 seasons, lighting up the NHL world as they had done always, slowly finding love and happiness together (after the Me 3 years Super league convo, you saw how blushy Sid was), quietly getting married in an discreet court house somewhere in Pittsburgh, having blissfully unprotected sex before and after the 2009 Stanley Cup win, just happy and in love and their life and success was just beginning to blossom.

But Sid finds out that he’s been pregnant with twins for some time now, having been nearly 12 weeks pregnant already by the time the final round was played. Geno finds out that there are some legal issues from escaping the KHL in order to play for the Penguins, and so to settle some ruffled governmental feathers, it would be best if Geno went back to Russia to fulfill those duties. Sid is extremely worried about the awful timing of the pregnancy and the sheer amount of alcohol consumed during the Cup celebrations, and Geno is worried about Russia ever letting him out of the country, or worse; finding about his relationship with Sid.

They hole up in a remote corner of Canada for the off season, just trying to soak in the time they have together before Geno goes back to Russia. Days are spent going to doctors visits, holding hands as they walk around the lake, cuddling on the couch at night, Geno’s big hands rubbing Sid’s belly, little feet kicking as hard as they can, while Sid giggles and twists round to kiss Geno.

Sid safely delivers the babies, two identical adorable boys, who have thankfully have not had birth defects as Sid was fearing, and so the rest of the off season is spent trying to decide what to do, how they could go back to their respective corners of the world and try to raise their kids. They agree to split the kids, and keep silent on where they came from.

Geno returns to Russia with a little baby boy, who will mostly be taken care of by his mother and father. Sid does the same, heading back to Cole Harbor more often than he would during the season, always glued to his phone and even taking phone calls from his mother on game days.

So then the actual story goes, 16 year old Daniel Patrick Crosby and Dimitri Evgenevich Malkin meet at Worlds to play for their respective countries, and like a random dinner clash between Russia and Canada find Daniel and Dimitri really confused because they look exactly the same; dark curly hair, strong solid bodies, angular doe eyes. Their teammates chirp them, saying they wouldn’t know who was who if they switched sweaters before the tournament.

They meet up again after Russia wins, meeting in Daniel’s hotel room while his roommate is away. They’re like

“oh when were you born? September 1st, 2009”.

“Oh shit me too”.

“ oh who’s your parents?”

“Evgeni Malkin, big KHL superstar”

“Sidney Crosby” because duh who doesn’t know the greatest player ever.

Maybe they have a ripped picture like in the movie, like with Sid and Geno holding the Stanley Cup like they did in 2017. Daniel has Sid, and Dimitri has Geno, and they’re like “ yeah Dad never talked about who Papa was, but that he loved him, but they couldn’t be together”. So they whip out the picture halves, stashed in their wallets, and tada they fit. They’re twins!

Since the tournament for them is over, Russia with the gold and Canada with silver, they have a few days to themselves to watch the rest. On a midnight run to Tim Hortons, sharing a box of Timbits, they agree to swap places to meet each other’s dad, and then switch back during the Olympics, let say it’s somewhere in America, in a few months time. Daniel and Dimitri spend the next precious days coaching each other on how to be each other. Daniel is conveniently mostly conversational in Russian and can understand better than he speaks, but Dimitri is a quiet kid so it works out. Dimitri works hard to soften his Russian accent and worm eh into his normal syntax more. They get haircuts together, the barber laughing at these rambunctious twins and their beautiful curly hair, and they laugh at the ridiculous stripes they agree to shave onto the sides of their heads.

Before they separate at the airport, they exchange necklaces, a #45 from Daniel and a cross from Dimitri.

Dimitri flies back to Cole Harbor, and finds his dad waiting for him. He looks older than the picture he has, more lines on his face, Definetly shorter and grey-er hair, and sad eyes. If Sid notices his son hugging him tightly and for longer than he normally does, he doesn’t say anything. They chat through the drive home, to the lake house that Daniel told him about. Dimitri can only stare and try and absorb who this man was, the man who birthed him. Sid asks him if he’s ok as they eat dinner on the dock, bare feet dipping into the cold water. Dimitri can only mumble “you’re the best”, as he snuggles his head into his fathers chest. Sid can’t help but think that his son’s voice sounds different; the way he pronounced best sounded just like Geno.

Daniel manages to not say too much on the flight back to Russia, desperately trying to memorize more vocab and grammar before landing and being picked up by his grandparents. The cooing and lecturing is the same in either English or Russian, so he smiles and just lets it wash over him. He tentatively asks where his Papa is, and Grandmama Malkin says he’s probably wining and dining his latest girl. They go home and Daniel is stuffed full of food, everything Grandmama could have possibly made for his arrival. Geno comes home later that night, tired but eager to congratulate his son for winning Gold for Russia. He notices that his son perhaps looks a little different, ruffling the funny haircut that he had gotten, but more at the expression of awe on his face; a similar expression Sid had on his face when he told him he usually went out last before a game, many many years ago.

So yadada ya, they’re enjoying the time that they have with their respective dads, occasionally wringing out a small story or a sad look of their faces whenever they mention anything about each other. So the Olympics are rolling around, and they’re all going to be in one place (lets just say that Sid and Geno had never attempted to make contact whenever they played against each other, afraid that they might get caught) But Daniel has frantically been calling Dimitri over Geno’s new girl and how he might propose and would ruin their plan to get their parents back together.

Shenanigans during the Olympics, one groups disappearing before the other can see them, until Geno is in the elevator shmoozing his girl until he sees THE ASS tm across the room by the front desk. Sid turns around and just smiles sadly as the elevator door closes.

Then the scene where Sid is walking down the hall and Dimitri and Daniel open the doors at the same time and suddenly Sid is confronted with what he thinks is the son he hasn’t seen in 16 years. They pull him into a room, and explain the whole swicheroo, and Sid is mad because there’s nothing they can really do, he’s prepared to let Geno move on and do what’s he needs to, but resigns himself to being alone.

Then the pool scene, where Geno and his girl are lounging with his parents, and Sid walks his fine ass down the stairs and Geno falls in, scrapes up his nose a bit, Sid bandages him up a bit. Daniel and Dimitri reveal themselves to Geno.

Some time in between tournaments, with Russia and Canada on the rise to be competing for the Gold Final, Daniel and Dimitri bully their fathers into a family dinner at a nice restaurant. They cut a handsome swath at dinner, good looking men in good looking suits. Geno instinctually files in last, whether it being his remembered deal with Sid, or merely to ogle a bit as he pushes in Sid’s seat for dinner. For fun, after dinner, they find a nearly empty outdoor rink, equipped with rental skates. Daniel and Dimitri take off, chirping each other and racing and checking each other into the low boards enough for Dimitri to flip over and out of the rink, Daniel wheezing with laughter as Dimitri hefts himself back over. Sid and Geno skate around at a sedate pace, both having played a round that day and simply watching their sons fool around. They don’t say much. They can’t really. They can only quietly enjoy each others presence, wondering where had all the time gone, all the plans they had had.

The final round for Mens Ice Hockey has arrived, Russia vs Canada for Gold, and Daniel and Dimitri can only watch and wonder to see who will come out on top, and what will happen with their parents, watching as Geno checks Sid into the boards. Sid refuses to give up, and so Canada ends up winning the Gold. Like the 2014 picture where Geno and Sid hug after the game, what the camera doesn’t see but their sons see from behind the glass is the shaking hands of Geno and the single tear from Sid.

Like in the movie, before everyone hops onto their respective planes to their respective corners of the world, Sid and Geno make sure their sons aren’t faking this time, and that they go back to who they belong to. It’s how it has to be.

Cue the rain sequence, the sad music, the umbrellas.

Sid and Daniel return to Cole Harbor, still down pouring and quiet. They don’t say anything in the car ride back to the lake house. They finally arrive at home, and take some time to unpack and get comfortable. They silently look at each other, each longing for their other halves. Daniel had become so close to Dimitri, finding out who he was and planning the whole quest to meet their fathers. Sid just missed his husband, and playing against him after fighting so hard to play with him just made him wish for retirement sooner. They hug, and with Daniel under Sids arm, quietly wander down the bank of the hill towards the dock.

Although there seem to be two people already sitting there, with their feet in the water. Geno and Dimitri turn around, identical smug looks on their faces. Dimitri says, his accent hovering somewhere between the hard Russian accent and the rounded Canadian pronunciation, “hey Dad, did you know the Penguins still have those private jets?”

“Ye-yeah, they do bud”, Sid murmurs, still looking at the tall Russian slowly making his way towards him. Daniel duck out from under his arm to sit with his twin and watch the two goofballs that are their parents figure it out.

“I made mistake of not coming for you once, Sid. I’m not do that again, no matter how brave you are.” Geno says

“And I suppose you expect me to go weak at the knees and fall into your arms, and cry hysterically and say we’ll just figure this whole thing out, a bi-continental relationship with our sons being raised here and there, and you and I just picking up where we left off, and growing old together and… And, c’mon G, what do you expect? To live happily ever after?” Sid warbles, his tired eyes welling up with long withheld tears.

“Yes—to all, except you don’t have cry hysterically.” Geno murmurs, cupping Sid’s face and wiping a lone tear as it falls.

“Oh, yes I do—” Sid is cut off as he is kissed (AKA THE BEST KISS SCENE EVER, CUE THE MUSIC)

Daniel and Dimitri can only grin and fist bump as their parents finally kiss after 16 years apart. They put and end to it when Geno starts to dip Sid into a deeper, more lurid kiss and some major groping, and they push both of them into the water.

During the epilogue with This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) by Natalie Cole, scenes flash by of Geno and Sid holding hands in front of a press conference, their sons standing by their sides, as they announce their retirements from both the NHL and KHL after 20 years, and their relationship and their sons to the hockey community.

Another scene where Daniel and Dimitri attention Shattuck St. Mary’s to finish up high school before inevitable being drafted when they turn 18. It would be the first and only time they play together on the same team, Crosby-Malkin proudly spelled onto the back of their sweaters.

Another scene where they’re all playing shinny on a frozen pond somewhere, Geno getting distracted and just sweeping Sid into his arms after he scores a goal, kissing and swinging around until they both fall into a snowbank, their sons launching themselves at them at top speed.

Another scene where Daniel Crosby-Malkin from the Chicago Blackhawks and Dimitri Crosby-Malkin from the Dallas Stars face off for a Stanley Cup final

And finally, a small wedding held in Sid’s backyard in Nova Scotia, where Daniel and Dimitri stand with Flower and Tanger and Kuni and Duper and Talbo and most of Geno’s Russian buddies as their parents finally get married again, kissing happily under the sunset and the lake shining behind them.

Bonus scene: A few months after the wedding and a few days before the season starts up again, with everyone home, Sid comes down the stairs for breakfast with a strange look on his face and something in his hands. He’s a graceful 43 now, grey hairs really pushing now, so when he says “you boys up to being big brothers?” Geno spits out the tea he had been drinking and jumps up and envelops his husband.

Now the roles are swapped again!

Imagine rookie inspector Kougami Shinya had a date with enforcer Tsunemori... I mean, um, “No, it’s not like that!”

sweet fruits of paradise

One morning at Kougami’s apartment…

After breakfast, inspector Kougami Shinya was getting dressed with the assistance of his holo secretary Dandy – a small, bluish and octopus-like creature with a preference for French literature and fashion. Kougami had taken a day off, but he had promised to escort enforcer Tsunemori on a field trip to clinical psychology in the morning.

KOUGAMI: “Dandy, have you ordered the new suit from the tailor?”

DANDY: “Oui, monsieur! It’s a very stylish combination. I must say, the blue jacket brings out the radiant colour of your eyes...”

KOUGAMI: “Thank you!”

DANDY (helping Kougami get dressed): “You don’t want to wear a holo costume today? And no tie with the shirt?”

KOUGAMI: “No, it’s okay. Today is no regular working day, and I thought I might try something more casual. You think this is too much? Um, maybe I shouldn’t leave the top shirt button undone – ”

DANDY (starting to jump with joy): “Mon Dieu, finally! You have a rendezvous, right?”

KOUGAMI (turning pink): “What? No, it – it’s not like that!”

DANDY: “I can order a bouquet of flowers for the mademoiselle. Considering the language of flowers, red camellias are the best choice...”

KOUGAMI: “No, no flowers! Stop it and delete this!”

[An error occured. Speculation mode continues.]

DANDY: “A box of chocolates, made from real cocoa?”

KOUGAMI: “What? Why is it locked? Stop it! Where’s the damn manual?”

Ten minutes later.

DANDY: “I could write some love poems for you, if you prefer. Or maybe some erotic ones, since I know you’re still a vir – ”

KOUGAMI: “Shut up! I’ve already told you it’s NOT a date! Could you please leave me alone?”

[Data deleted. Speculation mode is reset.]

KOUGAMI (sighing with relief): “Thanks.”

[Now... switch to reading. Bookmark: romantic literature.]

KOUGAMI: “Oh, no no no. I’m sure I have no such things on my bookshelf.”

DANDY (wearing a mustache and a cane): “I looked at her, at first with the sort of gaze that is not merely the messenger of the eyes, but a window at which all the senses lean out, anxious and petrified, a gaze that would like to touch the body it is looking at, capture it, take it away and the soul along with it...” ¹

KOUGAMI: “Jeez, I don’t need any romantic advice! Got it? She’s only a crazy woman I have to work with…”

[Searching database for quotations on women.]

KOUGAMI: “You’re doing this on purpose, right? Because I scolded you for hanging up those ugly brocade curtains when I was at work last week.”

DANDY (wearing a halo): “I have no idea what you’re talking about. But hallucinations and dreams are clear side-effects of being in love.”

KOUGAMI: “Shut your mouth, you French little brat, or I’ll punch you.”

DANDY: “You can’t punch a holo, Inspector Goatface!”

KOUGAMI: “Wh-what did you just call me?”

DANDY (sticking out his tongue): “Au revoir, chéri!”

Kougami went after Dandy in a mad fury, but the holo secretary moved at lightning speed. Kougami saw it hovering above the flat screen, then vanishing through the kitchen wall. When he jumped over the sofa, ready to throw a big paperback at his enemy, the sharp smell of smoke brought him back to reality. The holo secretary was holding a burning piece of paper in one of his numerous kraken hands – and it was smiling down on Kougami like a mischievous demon with the clear intention of burning down the apartment.

KOUGAMI: “Don’t you dare!”

DANDY: “I’m dissatisfied with my employment. Threats all day, and no respect for the French!”

Dandy dropped the burning paper in front of the bookshelf which held volumes of rare paperbacks and neatly sorted folders. Kougami made a dive for the fire source and managed to extinguish it. But it was already too late.

The smoke detector rang. Water sprinkled from the ceiling like cold rain, blurring Kougami’s vision and destroying the holo secretary for good. Half of the living room was destroyed, too. And since the water had stripped the apartment of every holo he possessed, Kougami was glad for the real clothes that hung from his soaking wet figure now.

Half an hour later at the MWPSB...

Kougami pulled the car towards the entrance of the parking lot, where enforcer Tsunemori was already waiting for him. He saw her kicking at a robot which followed her around, probably reminding her that this was a no smoking area. Putting the cigarrette behind her ear, Tsunemori eyed her wet superior behind the wheel with a mixture of curiosity and shock.

TSUNEMORI: “The weather forecast didn’t say anything about rain, Inspector.”

KOUGAMI: “Please get into the car, Tsunemori-san!”

TSUNEMORI (fastening her seatbelt): “You should think about drying your clothes before wearing them. Don’t you have a little holo secretary for doing that?”

KOUGAMI: “Dandy committed suicide this morning.”

TSUNEMORI: “Oh, I’m sorry.”

TSUNEMORI (after a pause): “So traffic was tough and you took a little swim in one of those polluted drains under the highway to keep your Psycho-Pass clear, huh?”

KOUGAMI: “Yeah, something like that. Are you done with the interrogation?”

TSUNEMORI: “What a mysterious man you are, Inspector!”

Tsunemori leaned over the centre console and sniffed at his jacket. Kougami swallowed, feeling a little confused by the sudden nearness to the enforcer.

TSUNEMORI: “You don’t smell bad, though.”

Tsunemori gave him a lopsided smile, her cheeks slightly blushing.

KOUGAMI: “E – erm. Tha – ”

TSUNEMORI: “No need to be flustered, Inspector! Professor Saiga is no expert on fashion. But he’ll be very interested in your story. And so am I, so get a move on!”

Kougami drove the car onto the street. He eyed the amused enforcer on the passenger seat.

KOUGAMI: “Does your... acquaintance live far from the city, Tsunemori-san?”

TSUNEMORI (looking out the window, hiding her smile): “No, not that far, Inspector. But let’s hope there won’t be any traffic. I don’t have a swimsuit with me and my Psycho-Pass is already beyond recovery...”

Why don't you celebrate Fathers Day?

Those words hit him like a semi truck speeding by, unable to stop seeing the deer on the road. Jackson turned back to the little girl, who stared up at him with curious eyes. He felt a cold sweat, but acted calm and collected.

He was told by Sally that Lightning had gone and left earlier that morning to visit the graveyard. Their daughter Sam overheard the conversation and asked to come with him to go check up on Lightning.

Their walk was mostly quiet, with the occasional small talk here and there. Then, she brought up the date today, with Jackson accidently mentioning how he doesn't celebrate Fathers Day. He knew she didn't mean to, she was only a child, but her question made Jackson swallow a gulp.

"What do you mean?" He asked appearing nonchalantly, hands shoved into the pockets of his jeans. Sam shrugged, letting out a small hum.

"Well, on Fathers Day, everyone's doing something special for their dad. Like like- Uncle Ramone and Auntie Flo have special Fathers Day stuff. Uncle Guido and Uncle Luigi like to send gifts and letters to their papas. Granpappy and Grandmommy are coming to have dinner with us later. And then, I made something for Papa. And Papa is visiting Granddad right now!" She smiled, holding onto her basket full of treats. Jackson nodded, yet kept silent, preferring to listen to her rambles instead. Though, Sam turned back to him, tilting her head.

"What about you? Do you have something special to give your dad?"

"Uh." He didn't. He had no reason to after all. The old man practically disowned him once he dropped out of college to pursue racing, and hasn't bothered to contact him since. Even then, the gifts Jackson had given to him were most likely just sitting in cardboard boxes in one of their many mansions somewhere, collecting dust and spiderwebs.

Though, he did have something in his pocket he's been itching to give to someone, he just didn't have the time to. But, why would he give it to him though? After all, he's already someone else's dad. And, would he even return the sentiment..?

"Jackson? Sam?" They both looked up and saw Lightning, who sat right by a gravestone. The plaque read the name 'Jesse Paul Hudson'.

'Oh. We're here now.'

"Papa!" Sam ran over to her dad, throwing her arms around him as he pulled her into a tight embrace. "Happy Fathers Day!"

"Hey kiddo!" Lightning laughed, glad to see his daughter make it here. Sam pulled away and set the basket down. She fished out a bouquet of flowers and set it down Doc's grave.

"Happy Fathers Day too, Granddad!"

Of course, Doc couldn't answer, but Lightning knows his ghost is smiling down upon the little girl. At least, he believes so.

"I made this for you too, Papa!" Sam grinned, handing him an envelope. Lightning opened it up, finding a messy drawing of the piston cup, but instead of the usual text, it read '#1 Dad ever!!!' instead.

Lightning let out an audible 'aww' and pulled his daughter into a hug. "I love it. Thank you, Sam."

A small smile appeared on Jackson's lips, though conflicting emotions clashed in his head as he watched the two. Lightning and Sam let go of the hug, as the former turned back to Jackson, who lingered just a bit away.

"So, uh, Jackson. Were you looking for me to train with? I'm sorry. I have other plans for today."

Jackson waved a hand dismissively. "Eh, it's fine, Champ. I just don't have anything else to do. " he bit his lip, glancing away. He wasn't sure if he was welcomed here. "I uh, I could go if you want. Yanno, leave you guys to do your stuff..."

Lightning shook his head, "It's fine. Take a seat. We could talk about stuff you could work on if you'd like." He gestured to the spot next to him, patting the delicate patch of grass.

So Jackson decided to stay with them. It was strange. He believed Lightning just invited him to stay because he felt bad for the guy, but Jackson enjoyed this company. Really, he wished he had these kinds of lax conversations with his old man growing up.

At first, they talked about strategies and plans for the next race, improvements Jackson could make, but then it evolved into Lightning's relationship with Doc. How he missed him, and hope he's doing him proud.

"He was like a dad to me. He was there when mine couldn't be..." Lightning sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.

Jackson hummed, finding himself nodding along. "...yeah. I get what you mean."

Lightning turned to him, taking notice of that solemn look upon Jackson's face. It was a look Lightning was oh so familiar with. The look of yearning for approval, wanting to please someone but never felt good enough.

His attention was promptly stolen by Sam, who tugged on the sleeve of his jacket. "Papa, what do you mean your dad wasn't there for you?" She asked.

"Well sweetie, there are times where the dad who brought you into this world can't look after you as best they could... And sometimes, you look towards someone else to well, basically be your dad in his place."

Lightning noticed that sudden look of concern from his daughter. "But! I'd never leave you the way my dad left me." He glanced towards Jackson, adding, "I promised myself I'd never make that mistake. I won't let either of you down..." He pulled Sam into a hug, the little girl practically clinging onto him. Jackson felt stunned.

Those words... 'Either of them'... Was he talking about Sam and Doc? Or was he talking about...

Jackson was pulled from his thoughts when he saw the two of them standing up. "Alright. I think it's time we headed back." He picked up his daughter, who giggled as she was placed upon his shoulders. "Jackson, could you get the basket?"

Jackson nodded, stretching his legs as he stood up and picked up their things. The three walked back towards town, down the dusty trail.

"Hey Jackson."

"Mhm..?"

Lightning gave him a soft smile, uttering the words Jackson never thought he'd ever hear. "I'm proud of you, kid."

Jackson felt a pang in his heart. He felt shaken, wanting to cry. But he didn't, and instead, rolled his eyes, fishing out a small blue envelope from his pocket. He handed it over to Lightning, not meeting his eyes.

"Happy Fathers Day, McQueen..." He said, his cheeks coated in a faint red from embarresment.

Lightning's eyes lit up in surprise, but surprise turned to happiness, and honestly, a sense of pride.

In many ways, McQueen hopes he continues to make Doc proud. Whether it be through racing, through taking care of his family, and now, he hopes he does him well looking after the rookie the same way Doc did for him.
