ur post about oc fic and reader insert fic made me think about how every time i see a post dragging x reader it's kinda just... thinly veiled misogyny.

like i don't wanna get super deep or whatever but a good chunk of x reader writers (myself included) are just women or people socialized as women that have felt unloved or under appreciated in their lives because of their looks or their personality or their skills in things that women/feminine people are expected to excel in and i think that oc/reader insert stories give women a really important space to make themselves (or a version of themselves) the most desired thing which is something that they often don't experience. it's a space where women can feel comfortable and loved in a world where they're under appreciated and tossed aside because of things out of their control and it drives me up a wall when i see people shitting on these spaces and these works because these are just safe spaces for marginalized people PREDOMINATELY CREATED BY MARGINALIZED PEOPLE!!

omg see the thing that gets me about the occassional x reader/oc drag is that—the call is coming from inside the house LMAO. like, okay maybe original characters in fics aren’t a niche thing, but x reader sure the hell is, so you have to like, know internet culture/fandom to be aware of it let alone to start using it like an insult, you know? and i would argue that fanfic tends to be a hobby that attracts marginalised identities as you say, so like, why are we clowning on ourselves? LOL. it’s like a mathlete bullying the horse girl of their class, like, buddy—we’re both losers!!! get over yourself LMAO.

i think my favourite dig at x reader (specifically) that i’ve ever seen is some rando on tiktok saying it was fanfic for people who were popular in public school—i think it’s so telling of how other fans might view oc/reader content? like, “oh that’s just some straight girl shit, they’re not putting any effort into it/they’re stealing our precious ship boys for their pORN/they’re ruining the canon story by inserting themselves into it”. and idk—part of it is just human nature (we are always going to shit on things we don’t like, that is a fact) and part of it might be fandom/internet culture at large at the moment (the purity aspect/policing) but at the end of the day all we can do is tell them to eat dog shit when they sprout up in our spaces and ignore ‘em.

idk! it drives me bonkers though, because it does feel like these spaces/niches do get targeted unfairly for it—if it’s not for the simple crime of writing a love story with your favourite character, then it’s like… being old and doing it! because god forbid you be over the age of 18 and still enjoy engaging with fiction! don’t you have a mortgage to go pay? like—i never see that attitude (within a fandom space) directed at the grown-ass men and women and gender neutral pals who play like, Dungeons and Dragons. No one (within a fandom space!) tells them they’re weird for forty-hour long campaigns where they fight and fall in love and idk, put dragons in some dungeons or something. no—it’s the blatant love stories that get picked on. the ones written by girls (gender neutral).

romance—and falling in love—is one of the most universal feelings/acts in the world. we want to fall in love with everything! in every world! we wanna—fall in love and be loved by superheroes and the villains they fight and the monsters in the dark and the good guys that rush in with swords and the cute barista at the coffee shop down the road. if other fans wanna get hung up on the fact that a tiny fraction of others want to insert themselves in these incredible worlds and experience everything they want to (having powers; being saved. saving someone else—saving yourself) then that’s their problem lmaoooo. im sorry you can’t have fun and create whimsy for yourself by drawing an oc who wins the sports festival and saves bakugou from being kidnapped—but im built different. 😌 and im gonna have fun while im here.

dragon age inquisition pissed me off because it had a good premise. or, it could have had a good premise, but like, they really made the worst choice for everything ever. for two games, mages were oppressed by the templars and now, with the end of dragon age 2, this turned into an actual civil war. the protagonist could have had the choice between 2 origins, mage or templar, and would have to navigate the conflict in a way with a band of people from both sides where the templars have to realize how they are actually in the wrong. this could have been a cool way to show how maybe templars are indoctrinated into a specific ideology, too and humanize them in a way that is not the “both sides have pros and cons” way. or the story could have been about a mage underground who wants to join in the fight. they could have been really bold and told the story from the templar’s side, where you play as brutal enforcers of the law and are faced with how you are probably not a good person. but instead of anything interesting they chose a neutral, super-powerful, for some reason religious organization as the main characters. which, well, it could be worse, but it’s such an impersonal position in the conflict.

then, they decide to start the game with peace talks between both sides, which means that they skipped towards the end of the conflict and the game actually takes place in a stage of the war where the conflict isn’t all that extreme anymore. which, again, not the ideal choice, but that is still something you can tell a story with.

"at least dai is about the conflict they built up for two games, though, right?”

*well*, for one quest you can choose, if you want to side with the mages or the templars (in a situation where it makes NO sense to ask the templars) and sometimes you have encounters with hostile mage or templar npcs (like in all other dragon age games). Oh, and the side you don’t pick in that one choice, that really only serves as flavor and gives you *one* different quest, gets corrupted by some random demon man that crawled out of a DLC no one played and who for some reason is the villain in a game that should have been about the civil war happening right now.

the idea that there is a threat that forces mages and templars to work together, despite being mortal enemies right now could have been so interesting, too? the world is ending, but does that mean the mages have to go back into servitude because the templars refuse to work with them otherwise? you are the fucking inquisition, in this game there could have been a plotline about disbanding the templars. anyways, the plot isn’t really that the world-threatening evil guy forces both sides to find a solution to the conflict, the plot is that a world-threatening evil guy appears, while there happens to be a conflict off-screen (and sometimes, for flavor, even on-screen) the villains goals have NOTHING to with the civil war either. like, i didn’t even remember his actual motives, I had to google them.

The. villain. could. have. been. Anders. Imagine if it was Anders. Like, imagine that journey. You meet him in a dlc as a grey warden who believes in the good in people, somehow and you see him become more bitter and angry over the course of dragon age 2, where you play a full game watching him become the person that blows up a church and starts a civil war. and now he’s the villain of this game. Like, it’s lowkey ridiculous to me that he doesn’t even fucking appear onscreen. Like, you are telling me the guy who blew up a church for his rights just went into hiding instead of becoming the face of the mage rebellion, lmao, okay.

Even if they went with the setting of Inquisition and set the game after the peace talks, I would do it in a way where Anders led the mage rebellion for a while, gained a huge following, but now, as there are peace talks happening, Anders is seen as too extreme, by both the templars and his own people, because now that negotiations are happening they don’t want to be seen with the Guy That Literally Blew Up A Church. And like, the mage rebellion splits in two and is weaker than before and the templars want to use this weakness to continue the war without having to agree to a treaty. Anders then leads the more radical mage-rebellion group that doesn’t cave in at the first mention of peace talks and some of them are in it for the freedom, like Anders himself, and some are in it for revenge. And you are playing as someone who is supposed to deal with them. Like, I want to empathize that this shouldn’t be a game where you are unquestionably the Good Person in the conflict and I really would not want the final fight to be one where Anders goes full Abomination Mode™ as you fight him (and if that was an option that would be one of the worse endings for the game). Like. A game where you have to evaluate if you want the war to go on to support Anders’ side or if you want to end the war, despite the mages only making a fraction of the progress they could have made. Even if Anders wasn’t the villain there could have been a billion good villains. you know who would have been a great villain? Cullen! Cullen could have regretted siding with Hawke, after he lost everything and was thrown out of the templar order and now comes back as some unhinged mage-killer, literally i made that up in 2 seconds. The actual inquisition could have been the villain for all I care!

The plot of dai also fucking sucks and all quests except for Wicked Eyes And Wicked Hearts aren’t really that good and the gameplay sucks too etc. etc. but one thing i especially hate as a choice they made is the companions. yeah, they’re charming and cool, but NONE of them play an interesting role in the ongoing conflict the game keeps ignoring. the game really made a mage who is super pro-circles, a mage from a country where there are no circles and a guy who crawled out of the woods and has no opinion on circles that really matters your three mage companions. like, not a single rebel mage. and cullens writing just sucks, let’s be real, this man is never confronted with ANYTHING he ever did in his life and instead in this game, the writers want you to feel sorry for him due to a plot point they just made up? (also samson and cullen REALLY should have switched places in this game)

even aside from mages and templar characters. sera could have been the same person, but she’s super pro rebellion and actually doesn’t want the war to end until the mages have all the rights they deserve and that is the reason she clashes with the rest of the group so much. the iron bull could have been a mercenary who was hired to fight for the templars, but has second thoughts about it now. blackwall could have still been a deserter but a templar deserter. Varric of all people should be on one side or the other. Either he supports Anders and made up his mind that Anders was right or he completely denouces Anders and does not want his name associated with him at any cost. Instead, Varric writes books in this game and meets some girl no one cared about, while all of his friends are presumably fighting a in pretty drastic conflict.

and even the storyline they chose, the one that mainly focusses on lyrium, had so much potential and they, again, used 0% of it. first of all, you really can’t just end a game on the verge of a world-defining civil war and then start the next game like “actually, remember that one questline in the last game about a small statuette from the deep roads? THIS is what we will make the story about instead”, but even aside from that, red lyrium was absurdly scary in dragon age 2. da2 created so much horror with a tiny red lyrium statuette and dragon age inquisition asks the very relevant question of “what would happen if a generic demon man from a dlc no one bought would put this truly evil substance everywhere? like, everywhere all over the ground.” and the answer the game has to this question is pretty much “nothing, apparently”. like, the game evokes zero emotions with this, there is no real horror to what red lyrium does it’s for all intends an puposes a Stone That Turns People Evil™, and there is a guy who has an evil army of evil red lyrium zombies, which he made out of the armies of the (way more interesting) civil war that is going on. like, i genuinely find that choice offensive. they deadass took a better plot and made the characters into zombie soldiers for some RANDOM GUY, when they could have been having an actually interesting conflict.

i could go on about this forever, i just want to conclude that im super angry about this game

I saw Wish! It was cute, and overall I think it was okay. It had some lovely callbacks, and was entirely original in its main plot, which is nice.

A lot of the issues people theorized it would have (pop-y songs, overdose on adorkability*, generic culture for the characters and outfits, imperfect casting in relation to character’s ethnicities, commercialization upon modern social justice interests such as reformation, and inability to commit to darkness) were there.

*man I usually love talking animals but like. Sidekicks are supposed to be comic relief and support, not distractions. Valentino wasn’t that bad, but still. Then again, I’m not the target audience. I do love that he was a baby goat. (As someone who has helped baby goats, unless they’re cold, they HATE clothes. When they’re cold, then they can just fall asleep in them, it’s very cute.)

But there were good points too (nods to Disney history without distracting the narrative, no romantic storyline* a genuine villain with a in-story further descent, desperate **betrayal spurred on by the societal structure the villain/government sought to preserve, themes of a right to self-determination and liberty vs. ‘protection’, how privilege warps you and makes you defensive, different body types and abilities, lovely animation, and so on).

*for the record, I love romance, and I know the last couple DP movies had no romances either. But idk how you could watch Raya and the Last Dragon and not even THINK about Rayaari lol.

*as soon as I saw the character, I thought ‘Oh he looks like Hans’ and I knew lmao

To comment specifically on Asha: her character creation definitely fell into the adorkability trap. But she’s very sweet, loving and capable, and I really enjoyed her relationship with her family. Making her a fairy (?) godmother at the end totally fit with her story. And her actress, Ariana DeBose, has a fantastic voice, and I can tell she totally gave it her all.

I’m glad her Mom isn’t dead (classic female protagonist issue) but I do have reservations that both Black princesses have dead Dads. I’m by no means the most qualified to speak on that, but I do know that it’s an issue often raised by Black fans on Black character’s backstories.

I do really, really love that Asha is mixed though. I know there’s a lot of issues of colorism* in Hollywood, both in live action and animated productions, but as a sister to a mixed Black boy, I know how much characters like Asha would have meant to my brother as a kid.

*interestingly enough, the movie didn’t fall into the trap of the lady half of the pairing being light than her male partner. Asha’s paternal family is white, and her Mom is Black.

My brother was never into Disney Princesses, but when Miles Morales (from Spider-verse) came out in 2018, right before my brother turned 13, and I think that was the first time he really connected to another kid character on screen. Miles is arguably mixed, often feels like a fish out of water, and grew up too damn fast, both physically* and emotionally. And I know that there has to be a bunch of little kids (and adults too!) who see Asha and feel seen. And I’m so glad for them.

*my brother was always tall, but he hit 6 feet by age 14, is 6’6 (183cm) now, and may still be growing, much to his chagrin.

Wish is not the magnum opus of Disney. Out of the two animated theatrical films Disney put out this year, I think Elemental is the better of the two*. But by no means do I think it’s terrible. It was genuinely fine.

Interestingly enough though, I do believe it to be an incredibly accurate representation of Disney’s modern output and behavior. Perhaps in that sense, it is a triumph.

*though I’m severely biased. I saw that movie 6 times in theatres and coincidentally rewatched it today. I cried each time.

Also for the record, I nearly finished* painting an Asha doll before I saw the movie today. I felt very pleased with myself. Here she is next to a Kida doll that I finished today.**

*I forgot her necklace and got her shoe color wrong, ugh. And I think I’ll try to make her side-braid’s more apparent. I will keep the flower though, just as a nod to both of her sidekicks and because I think it’s pretty lol

** Disney put out a line of mini Disney princess dolls that I … kind of became obsessed with. And have been painting to look like other Disney female Protagonists lol. Kida has an Aurora head (hence the unfortunately small nose) and a Moana body, while Asha has a Moana head (hair texture roughly matched) and a Elsa body (white and purple outfit from the sequel). I went “man Arvid’s horns and legs piss me off, I kinda wanna redesign him” and then instead of making my life easier I just gave him a new form really lmao. He still has his long hair and job, though! And now there’s new lore too ~

I had originally also done a full back view like before but it started to piss me off so I scrapped it. Just so you know, the moment i figure out how to draw Dex and also actual dragons, its all over for you fuckers (lol).

Basically the usual character intro that’s revised is under the cut! It’s a bit lengthy though.

Arvid Cairn one of the few dragon-like Jedi within the Temple being a Inferno Drakon hailing from Surlogi, a planet that is known for being just as if not more unbearable than Mustafar in terms of lava and flame.

As a member of the Jedi Artisans and the head of the Woodworkers Department, Arvid is often found in either his own personal workshop or the general woodworking shop within the department’s halls.

Born in 67 BBY alongside of his friend and fellow Jedi Master, Jaro Tapal, he was one of the older members of their creche group— later bearing the name of the Abyss Creche, or simply the Abyss Group. Within that group, he also was close to the Iridonian Zabrak, Rita Corrin— who would later take on Miho Fukuhara, or F, as his padawan— and fellow artisan Vincentius Goh, who he would check in on periodically before Vincentius also took on— or was given, more like— a padawan, Ina Bala.

( In the case of the MKxSW AU, Arvid Cairn was also extremely close to both Bi-Han and Hanzo Hisashi, both of which he ended up looking after as they were on the younger end of the creche’s age range. Bi-Han, specifically, tended to try and pick fights with Arvid, while Hanzo often looked to Arvid for a source of warmth.)

Jaro Tapal, however, was Arvid’s closest friend, something that had initially began because of the fact that Arvid was and had always been a more mellow, quieter figure within the more energetic initiates and padawans around them as they grew up. In short, Arvid ended up as a sort of safe heaven for those who needed it (Jaro and Vincentius more often than not).

It is safe to say, however, that in regards to his friend, he does not think all that much of his relationship with their fellow, younger Jedi, Bastra Vargdan— aside from telling the Zabrak that if Jaro annoys him too much (something Jaro takes offense to) to come find him. In fact, it seems as if he does not care at all if someone is in a relationship or not, so long as it doesn’t effect him or his own. Because of his lack of criticism towards those Jedi, they in turn do not look too much at his own relationship with the Diner Owner, Dexter “Dex” Jettster, who he is very happy with. Arvid has a good relationship with all three of Dex’s adopted children— Nim , “D”, and Onyx Bores Jettster— though he doesn’t often have time to go to CoCo Town once the war starts.

Arvid has been noted to be a very quiet and calm individual to most, and while he has been seen to become irritable if bothered for too long, he is slow to anger— but when he does anger, other Jedi have stated that it’s like watching an inferno spark or a volcano explode. A vicious and dangerous sort of thing— and one of the only times he is known to ever raise his voice.

He is also very well known for being a rather exhausted individual, something that is often attributed to the fact that he gets poor sleep. This is due to the fact that he is unable to sleep on his back and sides because of his tail and horns. He states that he also finds sleeping on his stomach or sitting can be uncomfortable the next morning. Arvid has a higher body temperature than the average sentient due to being an Inferno Drakon, as the race is one that has been born from the blood and bones of the first dragon of flame, Alogi. Because of this, he wears loser robes and refuses to wear an outer-cloak because he finds it unbearable to deal with. Most of Arvid’s clothing is custom tailored for his tail, which is rather strong and powerful, and often young children like to hang on it— much to his amusement.

During the summer months on Coruscant, it is not rare to hear that Arvid has vanished from the woodworker’s halls and gone somewhere much cooler for respite despite the department’s halls being rather cold in general to accommodate the number of Jedi in that division who prefer the cooler temperatures and to counter balance Arvid in general.

As a Drakon, his nails are harder and grow into more claw-like points, his teeth are similar in that they’re more pointed and sharp.

While his hands appear to be dyed red, this is not a Drakon trait— it’s because of the amount of wood stain he dunks his hands into. Or, that’s what he says, it is safe to assume that he’s simply tired of being asked if they’re tattooed or not and no longer gives a real answer when asked.

(This is actually a Drakon trait, as that is the color of their true form’s skin, while the scales that grow upon it can appear as any color. Arvid is just tired of explaining.)

Though his joints (knees, ankles) function just the same as a human’s, Arvid’s feet resemble that of his true form’s being more draconic and clawed with four toes in the front and one further back for balance, this back one can rotate and move freely along the heel if needed. They can act as an extra set of ‘hands’ and grab things, though Arvid is not known to do this outside of a fight. Occasionally Arvid will adorn his horns and tail with jewelry, but that is only for special occasions.

He has had one padawan who is also a woodworker and ended up becoming his second in the chain of authority among the woodworkers— Turu. Turu is the one who gifted him the earring he dons on his right ear.

Arvid’s true form is considered small in comparison to the other Drakon of Surlogi, though is incredibly large still. From snout to tail tip, he stretches abut 800 meters, or 2624 feet— though like most Drakon he is more long than tall and lacks wings entirely but is entirely resistant to lava and flame to the point of being absolutely fine with swimming in it in both human and true form.

The coloration of his true form is primarily a coal-black color, though there are red undertones from his skin and there are several markings much like cracks along his body that are red, orange, and golden. His horns in both forms have red coloration at the tips, and the plume of his tail is red, yellow, and orange as well.

Arvid has not revealed his biological sex, though has stated that his true form is physically female, though his humanoid form is male. If this is a case where his physical sex is transient much like several types of Fae is unknown. Either way, Arvid prefers to be referenced under he/him— but also considers arguments on gender and identity to be tiring so he avoids it when necessary.

When asked about his favorite location, he stated that he prefers the back booth in Dex’s Diner.

First I want to say to the annon who wants to kiss aliens that Mass Effect isn't that difficult even with the "shooting" portion and there's no shame to play on easy or super easy. Games are there for you to enjoy so if more action oriented games arent your forte dont be embarrassed to lower the difficulty. I play Dragon Age Origin on easy because tactical games are hard for me I almost abandoned my first playthrough but im glad I lowered the difficulty because DAO is an amazing game with great charactes and story telling! So if you wanna kiss aliens you go kiss those aliens!

And second since were on the topic of games I was curious if you use any mods for KOTOR. I was about to start my first play through and wanted to know if there were any mods you felt were great additions to your game(if you use any). I've heard so many great things about KOTOR 1 and 2.

Seconded, I ALWAYS play games on "story mode," "casual," or basically the absolute easiest difficulty I can find when it comes to both combat and tactics, and I love playing like that--it's opened up so many games for me! We're rooting for you, anon!

And I did not use any mods for KOTOR, unfortunately--I don't actually know how to mod things (LMAO), plus I played it on Switch! But the people who commented recommending KOTOR to me in the first place on this post might be able to provide more insight!

For KOTOR 2, I do know that it's crucial to download the uhh "Restored Content Mod"--I guess the game was pushed out the door in a big rush, and this mod restores cut content found in the game (with voice acting and all) and vastly improves its experience, to the point where the original studio themselves are going to bundle it (or something identical to it) as DLC on consoles. (I actually am hazy on the details, but long story short, I haven't played my Switch version of KOTOR 2 because I'm waiting for them to release that specific DLC, so I'm guessing the mod is also crucial if you're playing on PC!)

If you're planning on romancing Carth (the male romance option in KOTOR), I do have a tip on how to avoid a bug in his romance under the cut, as well as another crucial bug in the overall game! It won't make a ton of sense until you actually start playing the game, but here it is:

When romancing Carth, be very careful of two things:

After he talks to you about Dustil, keep him out of spaceports! That means use your party swap function to keep him out of your party whenever you exit or reenter your ship. Once you leave the initial spaceport area, you can swap him back into your party again. The reason for this is that if he's in your party when you enter a spaceport, a character quest for him will automatically trigger, preventing him from talking to you anymore--but you need to keep talking to him in order to progress the romance!

Also keep Juhani out of spaceports! There's a bug where triggering her character quest will automatically prevent you from triggering or completing any other character's personal quest ever again... so save hers for last, once all the other characters' quests have been completed!

There may be mods to bypass both of these bugs, but that's outside of my wheelhouse! I hope you enjoy! ⭐️

a random draft where i was ramblingg about witch hat & art to myself for myself :)

rare time i feel like actually going off about the thing i’m having fun with right now in more detail ... but not on twt where strangers might try to discuss back at me lol sorry but that is scary. (not that you even have the room to soliloquy on there)

i love how there's characters for varying types of artists to relate to. people like agott who have been adept at drawing from a young age but feel overwhelmed by feelings of not meeting their expectations. and are driven mostly by feelings of wanting to prove their worth..

people like oru who have always been around the art but now are burnt out from commissions and wondering just what they're drawing for... and ones i relate to the most personally like coco and qifrey, who started drawing at an older age to the skilled people around them. like coco i'm so happy that i'm in the world of drawing(/magic) now and excited every day but also weighed down by fears that i'll never get to what i where i need to be after starting at this late stage and also whether i'm really cut out for this....

and like qifrey i only started drawing after a narrow escape from trauma... i started drawing to make sense of what my life is now, just as he was invited by beldaruit to become a witch because it was the only safe path he could take. (although i've not been through anything quite like what he's been through... ouagh)

and there’s tetia who just wants to draw to make other people feel happy about what she’s made, to have fun, and spread hope and happiness and gratitude. who feels so happy whenever someone thanks her for what she’s created - i understand now how it feels to want to thank them for thanking her and how making art, when you get a meaningful response, can be a truly warm communal type experience. but you do need that response - her overwhelming happiness when the dragon thing was happy and she said it was the first time she’d ever felt fully appreciated for her magic and it made her soooo happy. she had been drawing until then, but it was the last puzzle in place to make her realise the breadth of what magic can be for her.

and riche who is determined to not lose the “her”-ness from her art, doesn’t want to learn new techniques and become more regular and orthodox in style if it means she feels she’s losing something... i get that!!! precious autistic-coded child... the ways we feel about our art differ depending on our own mental landscapes. hahhhh... shirahama said she began this series because she was having a conversation with artist friends about how it feels like drawing just really is magic. i mean..... it is.

i think writing feels like magic too, and i’m glad i can do both now. any creation is total magic. i’ve drawn scenes that were in my head and that’s let other people see them and if i can trust their comments about it, has moved them in some way or at least let them imagine a scene or a situation that they wouldn’t have imagined otherwise. but it’s different from just telling someone about it. when you draw something, or write something it really exists now - outside of you. THAT’S SO WEIRD.

i liked drawing a lot of takarazuka things (before i realised i got kind of burnt out drawing all this transcore stuff that people were not exactly responding to because it’s so niche and weird lmao) but drawing fanart for something that also ONLY exists in art is so special. it’s not acted by real people. like.. they’re just little people that someone drew and now i draw them too. total magic. and she gets up and draws them every day the same as me...

i love that a manga isn’t just art, it’s storytelling too. doing both writing and drawing at the same time - it feels like such a perfect and fascinating combination of skills and facets of creation. i’m better at writing than drawing, so i don’t feel like i can express my original stories well enough in comic form just yet. but i might just get there.

the world is so confusing and overwhelming and terrible every day. only creation is something i can understand. sometimes i can’t understand it - when i feel REALLY bad, it’s definitely like, what’s the point. and i wish i had more things to experience at present than just creation - i want to be outside and just feel and be as well as create. and at some point i’ll definitely stop posting my creations online. but creating has become something that i don’t need to understand the reason for it - so at those times when i wonder what the real point to any of this is.... lately, i usually still create anyway. just as you’d still breathe and sleep even though you’re hurt and confused by the horrors of the world. it’s becoming how i express myself. i find myself drawing pretty much every day because it’s part of how i make sense of shit now and i naturally want to do it. not doing it is painful.

i hope this magic continues. i hope it becomes far more wonderful than i can even imagine from here.

Dialogue is p low-tier, very Yt Women Romance(tm) & draws away from his original set up, imho at least lol but in the end that isn't what bugs me.

What has me seeing red is the devs throwing a fit & pearl clutching because folks were asking if they're going to keep in/respect the asexual option the base mod has. (Because obviously that means they want to do away with all the romance/sexual options as does anyone with a single, mild criticism - amiright gamers /s)

So Kana and Patience (Patsy for short) are my newest OCs im so sorry to say they are dmmd OCs

so to preface, i have my own version of the dmmd universe where my OCs exist, several characters are trans and theres less questionable stuff n im sorry if this doesnt make sense if ur not familiar with the game. anyways...

Kana is a young bi trans woman who wound up in prison (before she fully cracked her egg) because she was addicted to this in universe thing called rhyme (its not important) but anyway she became part of Mink's gang after he busted them out of prison and basically was fuck buddies with her boss for a bit before he disappeared. After Mink's main route she becomes Aoba's bestie bcs Mink basically told her to watch over him.

She likes weed and dresses quite gothy/ emo. She works in a shop called deadbeats which is a second hand music store.

I gotta draw her more but... here she is with her bearded dragon

Havent drawn Patsy yet but she's a young black girl with purple hair, tends to dress quite bright. She's a jenga champion and /will/ cheat at monopoly. in my universe she lets aoba stay with her while he's in america looking for Mink. She's cool and bisexual and her dream is to travel around south america with her girlfriend one day.

Halimone, Rosetta, Cinnamon and kiiinda by extension Astrid are all Dungeons and dragons characters. Astrid was originally an MCU Asgard OC I made when I was like 14. They're not as developed but hey.

Hal is a gorgon who lives in the woods and wouldnt hurt a fly (think I'll make her a druid class or something). Her twists are snakes.

Rosetta (inspired by sister rosetta tharpe) is an archfey who escaped her home and travels around playing guitar for money as a bard.

Cinnamon was my first DnD OC and they are a little red tiefling magician. I don't have a solid story for them yet but they were a magicians apprentice until their tutor disappeared. (They're kind of a self insert)

I haven't drawn Astrid in years and my old art of her is bad but originally she was one of Thor's warrior friends. She has long bright red rapunzel- like hair that can go on fire, tends to wear it in viking braids. I think I'll repurpose her as an Aasimar Paladin/ barbairan when i end up playing another campaign.

I also have another OC called Eliza from the same universe which was literally just my 14 y/o self insert but I wanna repurpose her too.

And finally Vincent (vince for short). Bisexual he/they. Is a vampire the masquerade OC. He got turned at the age of 26 after a horrific biking accident where he was run over and almost died, it was the 80s so he's kind of a boomer when it comes to tech sometimes. He's in clan Brujah and likes robbing shit from rich ppls houses and then drinks their blood while they're asleep. He also helps out at night soup kitchens when he can, he's good.

Noah Kingfisher is the source code for my Healer character archetype. he was sired by an eldritch sorcerer and birthed by a good and kind human woman. he was created to break worlds but has committed his multiversal existence to repairing them (although a version of him that fulfills his original purpose does exist). I currently have storylines for him in Fallout 4 and The Outer Worlds. >> other characters that were created with this code include Elijah Hawk-child (Dragon Age 2) and Keahi, Hound of Eothas (Pillars of Eternity).

Dayir is the source code for my Lover character archetype. ey are naturally liminal, traversing both the realms of the living and the dead with ease. ey possess strange and divine powers and should be too strange to fathom, but as paradox is eir birthright, ey have the uncanny ability to form the most unlikely of bonds with nearly everyone who crosses eir path. I am contractually obligated to add that a significant element of Dayir's power is, how we say... of the NSFW variety. I currently have storylines for em in Final Fantasy XIV and am prototyping a few others. >> other characters that were created with this code include Anansi Surana (Dragon Age: Origins) and Claudio V Invictus (Saints Row).

Which dragon age game do you think has the best story, in your opinion?

Omg I think definitely Origins! I think it has a very strong base story overall and does a great job letting you learn about the world naturally while emotionally leading you to the endgame, but I also love how the story can change sooooo much depending on your character and the choices you make. Like, from a roleplaying perspective, I feel like my wardens were all going through very different arcs, and the different origins system sets that up incredibly well, and then you just have so much control over the different subplots and overall resolution. And they're all really interesting outcomes, even the less "desirable" ones!

For the other games, I feel like DA2 has the most set """story""" in a lot of ways, which is kind of a flaw because it offers way less freedom for player choice and roleplaying (you really only have control over relationships with your companions and like. do you support the mages or templars) but I do think the story they were trying to tell is like! very cool and there's a lot I love about it. If DA2 had been given a few more years for development I think it could have been my favorite lol but unfortunately it is soooooooo messy and first drafty. much love and fondness to miss dragon age 2 but she is a mess

Then Inquistion is like FUN but I do feel like it's overall story is probably the weakest part lol. It does cool things with worldbuilding and has good characters and engaging subplots but I think the overall actual conflict is super undeveloped and just. kind of weak. I feel like the conclusion (not counting Trespasser) was just underwheming. You get to the end and realize you were NOT playing this game because you gave a shit about the actual conflict lmao. (Origins also had a Fight Against Big Generic Bad Guy as its final battle but I think it worked really well because of the choices you have to make and the way everything else leads up to it)

So yeah Origins gets my vote for best story imo!

i can not read the books, but are you telling me they are backfilling the CANON games canon character designs in order to match something the SUPPLIMENTARY books said, probably by a pov character that wasnt a genetic expert? the whole 'babies born to elven mothers look 100% human' thing is bullshit and every fan knows it. hell, i thought the entire reason for that was specifically to backfill for alistair? just say it DEPENDS! case to case! its not like they held a clinical trial!

Just to get it out of the way real quick, because it’s a common (but fully understandable!) misconception, half-elven children always looking and functionally being human has been canon since day one, and was not specifically introduced to cover for Alistair’s backstory. All the prequel lore was written at the same time as Origins was, and The Stolen Throne & The Calling were actually released before the actual game, as like a marketing thing.

So yeah, technically, Feynriel being identifiably elven in DA2 was a retcon/lore inaccuracy... but Weekes and the other writer’s response to being questioned about it was still bullshit lmao. Like you’re saying, it's ridiculous to retcon in-game information to fit supplementary material (instead of the other way around like every other series in the gd world) but it’s especially dumb for them to double down on this inconsistency, when the rest of the time they’re playing it so fast and loose with the book lore that it makes my head spin. Like you’ll abandon huge chunks of darkspawn/blight lore and (from what I can tell from what I’ve seen of Inq) Fiona’s characterization, but pointed ears on half-elven children is where you draw the line? Seriously?

Also it’s just bad lore! Point blank. It’s nonsensical bc that’s not how genetics work, saying it’s influenced by magic is dumb and I think everyone in the audience knows it, it would be easier to ignore than to continue to retroactively justify, and also the way they’re going about it is...really offensive to real-life mixed-race people. This post by tumblr user dalishious [Link] goes into Dragon Age’s handling of mixed elven characters in a very comprehensive way, and I highly recommend it. It goes over all the things I almost complained about here but in a better way with gooder words.

If it is okay may I ask you about Dragon Age: Origins (If you played it, of course and might be spoilery so feel free to ignore it if you didn’t 💕)? I started playing again and I find Alistair and Warden are kinda giving off Levihan vibes.

Keeping in mind that they are much younger than Levihan (Alistair being 20 and Warden being late teens/early tweenties) and not knowing each other for years, they are still the last of their kind and have great responsibilities. (And both can be kinda awkward... Alistair asking Warden if they lost anyone and if Warden is Human Noble they can answer with something like “My whole family has been murdered recently..”

Especially Warden romanced Alistair’s banter with Wynne is cute and awkward and I can imagine Hange reacting like that to being teased like that, lol. (Also hardened Alistair being more willing to have responsibility even if he doesn’t want to reminds me of Hange.)

i'm going to start a real rant there, please forgive me in advance.....

dragon age is actually my favorite series! da2 was the first game i played in a really long time and it was because of that game that i started playing more. origins is my favorite of the three, though, and i played that game probably a dozen of times, always with the same origins, same choices, you know the drill. naturally, i romanced alistair in nearly all of my playthroughs, i tried romancing leliana once, but i skipped some dialogue and her character quest didn't load up, i also downloaded a mod, so my fem!warden could romance morrigan but it didn't work too, so i ended up romancing alistair once again

about alistair's romance btw! in my first playthrough i wanted to save loghain, he got angry and decided to become a king, and then he went ahead and dumped my human mage warden right in front of everyone. the most tragic heartbreak of my life. and then he had the gall to go and sacrifice his life for my warden. horrible. vile. disgusting. i cried so much lmao. but then i loaded the last save and killed loghain (some old man's life isn't nearly as important as the epic romance of my warden lmao) and made alistair go through with dark ritual, so he and my warden could continue being epically in love

enough about dragon age (for now), the other games i like include assassin's creed (although i have a huge beef with latest games over abandoning stealth mechanics), devil may cry, resident evil, the witcher (the way they capture the essence of true slavic culture is just 👀👌) and the evil within! i recently got into yakuza series, although i'm moving through it at a snail-like pace (i've been playing since october and only reached the fifth game, and i skipped 3 and 4 because they were too boring lmao)

now back to dragon age! i've actually thought about this crossover! although, i pictured levi as grumpier and already hardened alistair and hange, as maybe, a mage? mainly, because i thought alistair's grief and desire to avenge duncan resonated with levi's character pretty well. but hange as alistair, omg! now i see it too! friendly and sassy? brave and selfless? attractive and charming? poor levi, he'd be subjected to so many puns and bad pick up lines

also??? hange giving levi a rose??? telling him that he's just as thorny and spiky (and just as beautiful and precious?) oh, levi would have swooned so hard (internally, of course. externally, he'd just be glaring at hange and then grunt something like "i'm not some kind of a delicate flower to you").

oh, and the first kiss? the "maker's breath, but you're beautiful?" if levi hadn't fallen during the rose incident, he'd surely fall for hange then.

oh, oh what about "i'm going to be standing there until the blushing stops, just to be sure"??? hange totally would

(also hange totally would sacrifice their life so that levi could live, but let's not talk about it)

and while i hc warden hange to be a mage, you know, a scholar and what not, levi would probably be a dalish elf? unaccustomed to human's behavior and all that (sorta how he came from underground?). although, levi as a dwarf.... now this is some canon stuff lmao (and dwarfs even live underground!)

first time I did it on mobile, it crashed, and it didn’t save, the second I went to go hang out with my partner after i /thought/ I hit post but Apparently Didnt, so here goesssss

prefacing this with saying I played the games out of order, haven’t even managed to play da2 (haven’t been able to buy it yet :pensive:) so my opinions might not be informed as a more intense fan. Buut, still love the games and still have Opinions:tm:

First character I fell in love with: 110% Josephine. When I first saw her, I was like “If I can’t hold her hand this world will be unfixable and I will have no purpose in living anymore” and then I saw the flirt option when talking to her and lost my goddamn mind. It was so nice to see a story where there was just. No Tragedy (to an extent), no dying, it felt like I got to live out my sappy romantic dreams :’) she was my first romance in a DA (or bioware game in general) and she’ll always have a special place in my heart,,

Character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Honestly? Wynne lmao, I thought she would just be “nagging old lady” but she grew on me and to this day I still love her. Even when she was trying to keep me from doing the horizontal tango with Leliana smh /j

Character everyone loves that I don’t: Surprise Surprise, Cullen. When I first started playing Inquisition (since. again, out of order,) he was just slightly annoying to me, if a bit offputting. I didn’t wanna be around him that much, felt some of comments were. strange, so say the least, but then... Then, I played Origins.

And I fucking hated him.

I can get why some people might like Cullen. I am not one of those people. After doing the circle quest and having to deal with his “kill all the mages” bullshit, I just... Look, I felt bad for him, but still. In my grand opinion, he shouldn’t have. Uh. Wanted to kill all the mages <3 he’s in my top 5 least favorite characters (and yes, I am aware of his addiction story, and while I still feel bad about that, I just... That doesn’t exactly “redeem” his prior actions, for lack of a better term).

Character I love that everyone else hates: I’m not sure if she gets a lot of hate, but Sera. Seeing a lesbian character who will get a happy ending made me really happy. Sure, you can... Dismiss her at any time, there’s almost no interactions that I can remember where you can be nice/understanding with her (even if the interaction gains approval) and sometimes her “my way or the highway” is really shitty (again, for lack of a better term) but still. I love her, I really do. One of my first times seeing an openly, quite unapologetic lesbian in games, and it’s still kinda important to me. I dunno. I was still trying to figure out who I was, I only recently really embraced “lesbian” as my own label, and I guess you could really attribute part of that to her. But, if she isn’t really hated, then disregard this. I’ve just seen some really nasty things people said about her.

Character I used to love but don’t anymore: Solas... And no, not because of his dreadwolf reveal. I enjoyed that! I like the thought of him as a villain! But, like... Lots of stuff started to wear on me, like... It’s been a while since I last played but he always felt quite condescending once I talked to him a bit more, just a bit “I’m superior to you haha.” I was playing a lavellan for this first playthrough, and... I dunno. I don’t hate him! I just don’t really love him. He’s worn on me, and not in a good way.

Character I would totally smooch: You want a list? Sera, Josephine, Leliana, and Qunari lady from the da4 trailer.

Character I want to be like: I don’t think I have a character I’d particularly wanna be like! If I had to choose, I’d pick Dagna, because I respect her dedication to. Learning. JDFKSD (can you tell I’m tired of doing this for the third time?)

Character I’d slap: Cullen <3 I would say Meredith too but even though I know she’s. uh. kinda fucking bad I’ll wait until I play DA2 to say so with Confidence

Pairing I love: Merribela, Leliana/Josephine, and really most pairing between pc/npc, save for a few exceptions, such as...

Pairing i hate: Cullen/Mage. Any mage. Mage Inquisitor. Mage Warden (hghg). Mage random character on the street you yoinked up. Just... No. Nope. Nuh-uh. Usually I’m very “do your own thing, idc if I don’t like it :)” but that’s like... Major nope. Ya know... Kill all the mages in the circle. (Plus, his feelings for a mage warden? When he’s in a position of power over her? :////////////) But! no hatred for anything else, really!
