12 for httyd ask game??
Who is your favourite antagonist and why?
Mmm...I'd say Viggo Grimborn. Despite the amount of credit given to the movie villains, I think Viggo really was the most competent and threatening. His charisma and cunning are so entertaining to watch.
I haven't read the comics in quite some time, but I remember Calder being particularly interesting too. If I recall correctly, he had this obsession with becoming a dragon and thought that if he wore enough dragon skins/corpses, he could become one.
Spoilers for The Serpent's Heir below...
There's also this panel of him poisoning the (young) ruler of his kingdom/tribe, that I find truly horrifying
it's giving sleep paralysis demon
and of all the httyd villains, his is particularly grisly - Hiccup sets him on fire before sending him tumbling off a cliff
pretty dark stuff
I've said this before, but I think The Serpent's Heir is the best of all the HTTYD comics
I'll probably reread them when I'm finished rewatching RTTE

Going through a brief HTTYD phase at the moment and my god, I've forgotten how good the series is. In that same vein, sometimes I also think about how Hiccup - wholesome, compassionate, I'll-try-to-make-peace-with-irredeemable-villains-even-if-it-is-impossible Hiccup - literally set a man on fire by his own hands (not with Toothless' help, but by himself), let the man jump to his death, and then watched it happen with no remorse.
Like... Christ, that's brutal and very dark for a kid's comic. It's canon, too, and happens right after the events of HTTYD 2. What also gets me is that it's also... cruel. In the comic, Hiccup and others verbally acknowledge that the man killed above (Calder) is sick and needs help, but instead of resolving the situation peacefully (we've seen that Hiccup's pretty agile - he could've rolled out of the way and/or had Toothless knock out Calder), Hiccup just kills him in the most brutal manner in the entirety of the HTTYD franchise - and jokes about it afterward.

Friendly reminder that Hiccup could've rolled out of the way of the Inferno or let Toothless take care of Calder, but instead decided to burn him alive because he never wanted anyone to use Toothless against his own will for their own gain ever again.

Made some age charts for the Night Furies and Light Furies in my world so when designing characters for the story I eventually want to make I know what the furies will look like at different ages. Night Furies gain nubs as they age and they will usually stop growing new nubs at 100 years old, where as Light Furies don’t gain nubs but instead their already existing nubs get longer with age until they also get to around 100 years old.
I also redesigned Calder and Tempest to fit with the charts so they look slightly different.

Ellsee: What do you think I am, stupid?!
Calder: No, no. Just a little challenged in the brain cell department.

Guys
Help me
Who remembers the comic book "The serpent's heir"?
Is this the official canon?
What kind of transformation did Calder have? There is no magic in HTTYD, but reality.
Help, otherwise I won’t fall asleep

i love the way information is shared in the httyd universe specifically in The Serpents Heir when Calder is like "holy shit stoick's tribe mastered dragons holy shit where is stoick the vast" like. no credit to hiccup for being the one to do basically everything no credit to the gang for doing basically everything. i mean what did stoick do compared to the riders in terms of dragon co-existence; let hiccup have the academy, trained his own dragon twice, help the dragons as he would his own people. most of it was hiccup and the riders doing. oh and calder thinks they control dragons hiccup specifically has to mention that they coexist not master. dude's canonically really far away and has cultural bias no wonder his interpretation was skewed and the information was skewed and everything. and thats realistic!! thats how information travels!! its literally so small but its attention to detail that i love.

honestly Viggo talking about how Hiccup is more ruthless than he realizes and that he’s being too naive and innocent will get someone he loves killed was so downright amazing and I love how
not only does it foreshadow httyd 2 but it also reminds me of how Hiccup straight up killed Calder in the Serpent’s Heir
like I hope Hiccup’s ruthlessness actually does carry over to httyd 3 because it’s an interesting subject

serpent's heir gave us our first canon scalie in the httyd universe. patiently waiting for our second
Calder is a dragonkin icon. Who on Midgard could meet him at his level? They can sure try, but they will fail.
