Another fantastic Thought Bubble was had. I hosted a panel with Eve Greenwood @evegwood (Inhibit), ND Stevenson @gingerhaze (Nimona) Hamish Steele @hamishsteele (DeadEndia) and Shazleen Khan @shazleen (BUUZA!). And I had a grand time managing the ticket office for the event, busy tho it was!! Managed to see a lot of friends too.

apparently today is webcomic day (who decides these things?) so i thought i'd highlight some under-appreciated webcomics that i love (they're all queer, because that's always high on the list of what i look for in fiction)
no links, because i want it to show up in the tags, but these are very easy to find with a quick web search
Buuza! by Shazleen Khan is set in an alternate history world with a blend of modern tech and fantasy elements, in an empire based in the arabian peninsula. genre-wise it's slice of life, but several of the characters are also tied up in politics, so it certainly touches on wider drama in the world. the characters are complex and rich, and the worldbuilding is fascinating without detracting from the character-driven narrative.
@twelvefifteencomic by Zelazny, an amazing urban fantasy adventure story set over the course of a single night. this is a fanwork of a music video, of all things, and zelazny has done an amazing job of taking a 3 minute video and expanding it into an engaging and fun story. tw for mentions of (past) suicide. this is complete, but there is apparently a sequel in the works.
Finding Home by @haridraws is a beautiful and at times heartrending slow burn fantasy romance. themes of depression and (past) abusive relationships are an important part of the story, just as fair warning. it is very close to finishing (i've actually read the end because i have the books, and the ending does not disappoint).
White Noise by @thephooka is one of those stories that makes me want to devour every bit of information about the world it is set in (and @tape-hiss does fulfil some of that desire). don't get me wrong, the characters and story are incredibly engaging, but it's rare to see a world so richly imagined. the story itself is about losing everything and finding new things (as well as old things you thought you'd lost), and about liminality, and about making change. the primary antagonists are slavers, so the story does engage repeatedly with the violence of slavery. arc one has just finished, with an epilogue in progress, and a second and final arc is planned.

The comics website Broken Frontier announced the winners of their annual awards earlier this month, with ND Stevenson’s Substack comic I’m Fine I’m Fine Just Understand taking the prize in the webcomics category. Stevenson was up against an impressive array of webcomics, including Buuza!! by Shazleen Khan (pictured above); Drowse by Frank Verano, Nick Klinger, Jaime Huxtable and Taylor Esposito; Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe; and Ragwort Wood by Sarah Gordon — all of which are worth a click, so check them out.

Ok 5 things that make me happy...
Drawing of course! I've been picking up some old traditional drawing tools again, like color pencils and markers, to test out in my sketchbook in hopes that it'll help me understand color in general more. It's been fun experimenting!
My cat, Scout. I'm currently teaching her how to fist bump and it's very adorable :3
Cartoons and animation make me happy. I've been watching Dungeon Meshi recently. But I am looking for new cartoons to watch as well, if anyone has recommendations.
What else, what else... Doing people's mehndi makes me happy. It's so pretty and I enjoy the process of putting it on others. I try to make some conversation with the person I'm putting it on as well bc it can be a long process, and awkward if you're not used to it. That's the only instance I really enjoy small talk.
Last one................ I guess seeing myself represented in media always makes me happy. Like seeing Shahan Hamza, a Pakistani (and Welsh but I'm not Welsh) person playing Samama Khalid in The Magnus Protocol. Or "Buuza!!" on Webtoon and it's amazing settings and characters all from the Middle East and Central Asia. Or Black from "Grey Is..." also on Webtoon. I can probably go on and on about this one actually, so lets stop here.

Speaking of patho youtube videos there is one that asks what each character would bring to a community potluck, what do you think the stamatwins + stahk would bring and how well would said food be cooked
now that's what i want to be asked ok shawty let's see
rubin: beef dish. i think either a stew or something akin to buryat buuza which are meat-filled dumplings (in this situation, beef-filled). it would be cooked ok-tier, like it doesn't blow your dick clean off with how tasty it is but it's perfectly acceptable. it's tastey.
andrey: oooh the pierogi he's bringing the pierogi (polish side of the family he's the closest to (because he killed his dad [long story])). i think he's also bringing something easy to digest like zupa ziemniaczana/kartoflanka (potato soup, it usually has bacon [pork] bits but he's using beef in that one because. beef city) and gently-mashed potatoes with a drizzle of olive oil or something for peter to eat because peter's stomach is so fucked up from all that drinking you can't give him anything too spicy or heavy he will be sick. it would be cooked Very well i think andrey likes to indulge in cooking. let him cook etc. very tastey
peter: i know his ass can't cook are you crazy. do NOT let him cook he will accidentally poison someone. i think he was very tempted to bring alcohol but was discouraged. oh no no no boy. he ends up bringing tea... he likes a little tea... helps him digest and cope with the headaches. brings tea or sbiten (with no or very little alcohol content). drinkable because it's hard to fuck tea up even if it's possible.

hi everyone! i haven't made an introduction in a decade. here we go!

things I like:
- communism. I'm not just saying it when I mean that I believe with all my heart in solidarity bringing a better world.
- star wars, esp prequel/tcw and original trilogy. i like most of it other than the sequels though! bo-katan and obikin are my favourites <3
- star trek, tos/tng/ds9 especially. but i love all of it! enterprise apologist, julian bashir, miles o'brien, kira nerys and jadzia dax lover. all combinations of mcspirk also shipped here!
- babylon 5, ivanova saving my life every day
- big stardew valley player, especially modded! huge east scarp fan. would die for eloise
- also a huge magic the gathering player (unfortunately). will look at your edh decks any time
- not a huge fallout player right this moment but i would die for dogmeat
- reading! I love star wars books and comics but also love sci-fi fantasy literary fiction and occasional nonfiction! some books i've read lately that I loved were becky chambers' wayfarers series, this is how you lose the time war, and uprooted. one of my favourite comics in the world is buuza!!! by shazleen khan (can be found on tapas!)
- writing as well, I write a bit (ao3 ilnyarienici) but most of it is poetry in the notes app of my phone. I love poetry in general as well <3
- art, drawing, painting, building. I love drawing buildings in school and fanart and cute animal paintings, literally all art keeps me alive. art reflecting the human soul and also just nice art. and to me building a home that will last more lifetimes than I can imagine is art too :)
- animals and nature, I love nature and animals especially my two cats and sweet cows running onto the grass in the spring and elephants thriving in the wild jungle and sweet bunnies in sanctuaries :)

I'm always so worried to share advertisements for my books on Tumblr! I feel like tumblr is definitely more a creative space, but I wanted to try and advertise this in as many places as possible.
I usually make a new book for BUUZA!! every year, but this year I'm taking a break to focus more on new projects that pay (lol) and promoting Saving Sunshine. But that means I have 3 events on this year which I have 0 stock for...
I often sell out at cons, but it'll take a few thousand to restock properly for my upcoming events! I'm holding the pre-orders now to help me get some funds to reprint the books :,)

K I just learned about this amazing MIDDLE EAST/CENTRAL ASIAN slice of life FANTASY webcomic called BUUZA! and there is a kickstarter goin for some physical rewards including books!
It's FREE TO READ on Webtoons and Tapas
And the art and story are lovely
I havent gotten very far in it yet, but I LOVE the atmosphere the artwork sets up, and the dialogue supports wholeheartedly. Like--
