Letter to 2022

Dear 2022,

You were the year of growth.  The year of change. The year of motherhood.  I walked into this year a very different person than who I am now, just twelve short months later.  Usually I pay little mind to the New Year.  I just keep going and one year meshes with the next with no definitive line.  But not this time.  

With only eleven days left of 2021, I found out I was going to be a mom in about seven months.  This changed many things, including how I rang in the New Year.  I was no longer at a basement party with my high school pals having a few too many shots, or margs.  I cheers’ed with ginger ale, was nauseous, but had so much to look forward to.  A few weeks later, I turned twenty-four, and celebrated with a nap and some Chinese food.  Things were changing for sure.  

February and March were both a whirlwind of “am I going to make it through this school year?” and “is this stress impacting my baby” and “what have I got myself into?!” I should mention I was a school teacher in elementary school. But with good friends, patience and a supportive husband I did in fact survive…spoiler alert!

April was full of LOVE and SUPPORT.  My two amazing best friends planned and took me on a trip to the beach as a last hurrah before having my first baby.  It was full of laughter, dancing and relaxing on the beach.  Rockin’ a bikini while pregnant was amazing. Shortly after, I made it back home to family with my hubby for our baby moon. We spent the night at a hotel and enjoyed shopping and good food.  

May was insanity filled with HUGE news.  My hubby and I learned we would be moving out of the country and relocating!  WOW. Between that and entering the third trimester made for a lot of stress and tears.  June had some more “OMG will I make it the last few weeks?!” and “what have I gotten myself into” as I waddled around for field day and sweat my booty off daily.  

The end of June and all of July  blended together as I became one with my couch, rocking chair and Google.  I was determined to be the most prepared I could be for the birth of my child.  Sadly, this meant I missed my brother’s wedding. But then came…

August!  The month of motherhood.  Such an intense transformation full of immense love and support. My amazing mom moved in with my hubby, baby and I for the month to help out and spend time with us all.  I am forever grateful for this.  I found my mama bear voice and struggled with the fact that my family and loved ones couldn’t easily meet my son. 

September is better known as the month that my family got to meet my son! And October resulted in myself gaining more self confidence.  I had an epiphany about some relationships in my life and began to work through it.  

November and now December are filled with self reflection and preparation for the future.  I can’t help but think how much has really unfolded in these 12 months and how I feel like a completely different person after it all.  I am strong. I am capable. I am resilient.  But most of all, I AM PROUD. 

2022, thank you for making me better.  Thank you for forcing me to grow and to accomplish things I never thought were capable.  I genuinely feel as if I can handle anything 2023 will throw at me. Bring it on.

Today @jonnajinton posted about things that give her tingles or butterflies. For me, this happened just the other day when my brother and I @ss_sibling_style went on a bike ride. November can be kinda bleak in Pennsyvlania, but we always seem to find a magical spot anytime we are in or near the woods. This moment made me happy, with my most favorite person in the world, breathing in the sights and sounds of nature. Thank you to our beautiful Creator for this moment. 🙏💙 . lol, I won't mention I thought I was gonna die by the end of the bike rise. 😆 I need to work out more! 😅 .
