I want to be excited for the live action Little Mermaid so badly
The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie. Anyone who knows me knows I'm obsessed with mermaids as a whole and will watch any media that has them. Hell, I own my own tails and monofins. But every time I see a gif or a video for the new Little Mermaid, I cringe
(btw, this is NOT because of the casting. If you're against this movie because Ariel is black, you're a racist piece of shit and this post isn't for you)
My issue lies with the CGI. It just looks so FAKE. We've seen through the course of movies and TV shows that use it that CGI does not age well, and that's because technology is constantly improving. What was impressive in 2005 is not impressive in 2023 (Just look at Aquamarine, another movie about mermaids). And the CGI on Ariel and her sisters already looks fake and the movie isn't even out yet!
Compare this image from the trailer
Tumblr media
To this screenshot from H20: Just Add Water (a TV show that came out in 2006):
Tumblr media
You can see the details of the scales in the second image
The first image is flat. Sure, it's colorful, but it's flat. It's fake. Halle herself is the most beautiful and alive part of the image, because everything else is fake
The difference?
H20 had costume designers, ones specifically trained in mermaid tail making, HAND CRAFT every tail on the show. All of the scales were hand laid, all the tails molded to fit the actors/actresses perfectly, painted by hand
Let's even look at someone with no affiliation to TV or movies:
Tumblr media
This is Mermaid Linden, a very well known (in the mermaid community) professional mermaid. You can tell her tail is not as high quality as the ones made for H20 (though it's still a VERY expensive tail) - but it still looks like it's a part of her. You can still see the details. Because professional mermaid tails are also all handmade and molded to fit each person. Even if they don't lay every individual scale, good professional mermaid tail makers are very meticulous about what they do.
This is what happens when Disney refuses to pay practical effects artists. We could have had beautiful, handmade tails that would look real on screen for decades to come and could be reused for promotional purposes - instead, they're underpaying and overworking their non-unionized employees to make CGI tails that don't even look real now.
(to be clear, I'm not shitting on the artists. As I said, they're being underpaid and overworked. This is not their fault)
And before anyone comes and says "But swimming in those is difficult!" Absolutely it is. You should never swim in a professional level tail (or even just fabric tails) without practice and training. Which Disney could have given the cast if they were willing to PAY people (the cast of H20 [a TV SHOW] literally learned how to be mermaids on set. It's been done before)
Disney's "Live Action" needs to be rebranded as "CGI with some real people tossed in" because that's all any of these remakes have been, and it's exhausting when I look at what we could have had.

Since Caspian found the love of his life, Christmas became one of his favourite holidays. Every one moment of their celebration was magical to him. And it became even more enchanting since he became a father of his sweet Aileen. He loved to show her everything connected with Christmas and taking her to play in snow. He loved how happy his baby girl was these days. Then Nico was born. He watched with growing heart how his firstborn told her newborn brother about Father Christmas and sleighing. Caspian remembered evenings when they hugged them, sitting in front of the fireplace and reading to them. And now as a proud father of three, he watched his older children chat happily with their mom, who were holding their youngest child on her hip. He watched how they were decorating the Christmas tree, putting on the old ornaments. He came closer to them, standing next to his wife and placing a hand on the small of her back. Y/N looked at him and smiled with bright eyes. Caspian leaned down and kissed her sweetly on her lips, which was ended by the baby in her arms, who happily patted his father's cheek. The King of Narnia laughed softly, delicately taking the little boy's hand and kissing it.
"Daddy, you're late!" Caspian looked at Aileen and smiled apologising.
"I'm very sorry, my darling." He crouched down next to her. " Council had some important things to discuss, and I couldn't get out of this."
"It's alright, daddy." She hugged him, holding a Christmas ball in her small hand. Caspian placed a hand on her back and kissed her forehead. "Nico and I started to decorate the Christmas tree. You're not angry?"
"Of course, I'm not angry, my sweetness. Actually, I'm very proud of how amazing you did that." Getting up, he grabbed Nico carefully and tossed him up lightly, making him laugh. "How about we finish it, and then we asked Mrs O'Clery for hot chocolate?"
He laughed at happy screams of his older kids. Y/N and Caspian helped children put ornaments on Christmas tree. Caspian picked them up many times so that they could hang the Christmas ball on the highest branches.
This became his favourite tradition for holidays. Every year since they married, they decorated their private chamber. Even when Y/N was heavily pregnant last year, she didn't let servants do it for her. They did it even when Caspian had severe flu, and he slept all the next day. They didn't care how much glass Christmas balls fell to the ground and smashed when their children tried to hang them. They only cared about spending this magical time together with laughter and love.
Big smile came to Caspian's face when Aileen started singing one of his favourite Narnian Christmas carols, and his wife joined her. He couldn't help but stare at his beautiful wife, who was glowing in the soft light of candles. When she smiled at him, Caspian felt his heart miss a beat. He felt like on that evening years ago, when she bumped into him. He felt in love with her again, just because of that one evening.
When they ended decorating the tree, Caspian, Aileen and Nico started racing to the kitchen with accompaniment of the laugh of Y/N. They ran into the kitchen, and welcomed the older cook, who smiled happily at the sight of the little princess and prince. Mrs O'Clery started to laugh when kids asked her for hot chocolate, shouting over themself, which they ended just after one warning glance from Caspian. They apologised quietly and started to make a drink for all of them under the watchful eye of their favourite cook. They listened to her directing and watched her with big eyes when she started to tell them about their father's Christmas as a kid.
Later that evening, they put the kids to sleep, which was a difficult task because baby Hugo didn't want to sleep anywhere, but on his father's chest. He and Y/N made their way to their chamber holding each other's hand. They sent away maids, and Caspian helped Y/N change her clothes. He touched her delicately, placing little kisses all over her body. He loved doing it, taking care of her, washing her soft body and just watching her in the way that was only allowed to him. He loved how her body reacted to his love caresses. He loved how she whispered declarations of her love. And in the dark night, when they laid together, her back against his chest, and his arms wrapped around her, he couldn't stop thinking how lucky he was. She held his hand, placing a small kiss on its back.
"Y/N?"
"Yes, my love?" she looked up, smiling slightly.
"I love you. And you don't know how grateful I am for you and our children..."
"I love you too." She placed a kiss on his jaw, interlocking their fingers. "Aslan gave us perfect children... And I hope that he could bless us with one more."
"You want another one?" Caspian looked at her with a big smile.
"Only if you want it too... I just thought... We're good at trying for babies. Each one we have is so beautiful and smart. And you... Even when you have so many duties with ruling this country, you are an amazing father..."
She didn't finish speaking when Caspian's lips were on hers. She giggled, placing a hand in his soft hair, returning his kiss.
She was with him in every step. She always found a way to make his day better. She took care of his children and showed them how much they were loved. She made everything to discover things that become their family tradition. She was the love of his life. And the only thing Caspian wanted for this Christmas, and every Christmas in their life was her. And he only could hope that Aslan let them live together for many, many years more.

Hi Tani, my friend! I'm hoping to join your Narnia game! It's such an amazing idea!
I don't have a gender preference. I'm very cautious before approaching someone, but open up quickly. I care a lot about others and I'm protective and loyal to my friends, but I also love being taken care of too! I like joking with friends, but I'm not a trouble maker and I'd say I'm rather calm and mature. Physically I'm not very strong, but I'm witty, eccentric and creative. I'm ambitious and stronger than I actually look/act, especially mentally. No matter how hard people try to bring me down, I always get back up.
I'm highly interested in mythology, astrology, spirituality, magic, mysteries, horror, science-fiction, fantasy. I enjoy swimming, roller/ice skating, having picnics and video games. My terrible cooking skills are infamous, but I'm good at baking tho.
I dislike spiders, entitled people and I'm scared of thunder. I enjoy cuddling, I'm lowkey touch starved and I love animals. I'm a parrot mom myself.
Hii Friend !!! I'm so happy you're joining this game , I was thinking to make a game for LOTR too , but after I do HP , because Marvel and Harry Potter are still in like , a lot demand lol and it's big to write too .
How you entered the magical world of Narnia
You were out for roller skating. A bright day and your smiling face . Wearing your skates , you set out in a park . Skating and skating, suddenly you entered an area which was empty and despite the bright day , it was cloudy and airy . You looked around while slowly down , only fall into a bunch of bushes . Trying to get out of the bunch , you found yourself in Narnia . Yes , you met the same lamp that Lucy did and then , your adventure began !
The weapon you yielded
Daggers !
Just like you , everyone thinks they can't do much damage , but beware , they are one of those weapons which cover both , short and long range ! You'd train with Lucy and other Narnians , but you'll also learn the sword (beginners level) . You would master the daggers very soon .
Your husband / wife
I definitely ship you with Caspian ! If I've shipped you with someone else from this fandom ,i know you better than that time for sure !
He's your husband !!
The Era/Movie you enter Narnia
The Chronicles Of Narnia : The Lion , The Witch and The Wardrobe .
What the Narnians think about you
They really like you . You're one of their favorites actually . They like how even after something bad happens , you're resilient . They take it as an inspiration from you . Since you began using daggers , almost all of the army learnt it because they were fascinated by how you used it !
What the Pevensie siblings think about you
Peter Pevensie : He thinks you're mentally very strong and would surpass any horrors if you ever faced them in life . He really respects you and appreciates you because you're one of those girls who are badass ! He has a mild crush on you in the younger ages , but he matured and now , he protects and supports you with his life (even though he thinks you don't need his protection ) .
Susan Pevensie : She really likes your witty and creative side . She is one of those who's highly logical and smart . She'll appreciate when your wit joins in . She would also like your cautious nature but I feel she wouldn't appreciate how quickly you open up because she's kinda reserved herself .
Edmund Pevensie : He loves you as a brother. He thinks you're really fun to be with and would love your wit . He needs someone who opens up first , so that he can be comfortable . Just like you are ! He's really gonna make your fun while you cook but otherwise , he is really very supportive of you . And when I say very supportive , he'll always stand by your side.
Lucy Pevensie : She loves how you're stronger than you seem , just like her . You both would spend time together , practicing daggers . She'll adore you very much and often ship you and Caspian . She's usually very nice to even those who sometimes don't deserve it , so you'd be there to handle that person for sure . I feel , just like lucy , the siblings would feel a need to protect you and support you .
What Caspian thinks about you
He had already started to develop a crush on you when he saw your feisty side . Firstly , he thought you were like lucy , a small girl who won't be included in the war , but when he saw you using the dagger with such skills , he kept staring . He couldn't take his eyes of you . For him , you were an element of surprise . You joined them for the war and he constantly kept checking if you were alright . When they lost the first war , he was disappointed but to his luck , you and his Professor were there for him . He really fell for you at that time . His feelings kept growing all the time and he did leave some hints and glances that he likes you until he realised it was love.
What Aslan thinks about you
Okay , I can't read that clever lion's mind , but I'm sure he's really proud of you . He really loves you and just wants you to remember that you're amazing ! You'll always have his blessings with you and he'll always be by your side, even when there's no one .
A short blurb on your life in Narnia
You entered Narnia before the Pevensie siblings . But , luckily , you were found by Aslan first . He trained you under his eyes and treated you as his own daughter . You were the closest to Aslan and stayed in the camp itself . All the Narnians were your family friends and you were happy then ever . Until the Pevensie siblings came and told Aslan about Edmund . Now, the prophecy was about 4 siblings and you , who would be the only one who'd stay back in Narnia . You stayed with the siblings after the war (you did miss Aslan a lot) , but you kept going. As the Golden age continued , suddenly the Pevensie siblings disappeared , but you still kept going , waiting for them. Your aging stopped as soon as they went . You were already aging slower and now , you were just 15 yrs old . Handling Narnia alone was tough , but thanks to the cooperative Narnians . The attack by telmarines was the end . You knew it , but still you led the battle bravely , fought until you felt you'd die . The telmarines threw you somewhere near the Dark forest , and that's where you began to stay with the left Narnians . Until one day , a Prince stumbled down in front of your hiding spot . You sided by him as soon as you saw Susan's horn in his hand . You began aging too . You still believed in Aslan and so , you asked all the Narnians to support you . They respected you and started to support the Prince. From reuniting with the siblings and fighting the first war to winning the next , you were now standing beside aslan and bidding bye to the Pevensie siblings. Staying with Caspian wasn't bad at all . In those three years , you dated each other and now, you were married to him . The voyage of the dawn treader actually made you realise what love was . You had a few fights with Caspian , but at the end , the thing you feared the most was his death . He saw this too , and that's when , you realised what love actually was. Loving him to the death , you lived happily , ever after ..
Your post
The Lion , the Witch and The Wardrobe - Princess
Prince Caspian - Princess of the old , the forgotten Princess
Dawn treader - Queen of Narnia
Your Narnian Race
Faun , definitely . They are sweet creatures who love to have fun but will not shy away from fights or standing their ground
I hope you like it !
Thank you for participating!

Prompt: Based on Ben Barnes' song "11:11".

11:11.
What a silly time to pick for a “lucky” time of night, but through their travels, Caspian learned of the superstition in nearly every port they’d stopped in. It seemed as though he was the only one who had never heard of it; many of the men on his ship would stop at that time of night and close their eyes tightly as if making a wish. And though he thought the tradition was silly, he couldn’t help but wonder if it truly worked.
One night, during restless sleep, Caspian groaned and left his cabin for the cool air of the sea. Walking along the deck, he observed the stars and found that it was that lucky time of night and wondered again whether or not his men were getting their wishes to come true.
Throwing caution to the wind, he closed his eyes and wished that Aslan would grant him the opportunity to see his chosen family again soon, as they’d left three years earlier, and he hadn’t heard from them since.
Opening his eyes, he waited a few moments for something to happen, but nothing moved or stirred besides the men working on the ship that night.
Turning back to his cabin, Caspian sighed and shook his head. He told himself he knew it was silly, but he’d hoped it would work. Laying back in his bed, he let himself fall back into a restless slumber.
The next day he dove overboard to save three castaways that had appeared in front of his ship.
Caspian’s throat felt like it was closing as he hugged her close. He had desperately wanted the Pevensies to return to Narnia as they were the only family he had now that his uncle was dead. He’d prayed for it for three years—since the day they walked through Aslan’s magical tree. He expected to be happy to see them.
He didn’t expect to find Lucy all grown up, a young woman now and even more beautiful than her sister had been. Now, soaked to the bone and shivering, she smiled at him, and he felt his heart stop, and it seemed to sing a little as her voice filled his ears.
“Caspian!”
Jolting out of his thoughts that he feared were visible somehow, he turned and saw that it was only Edmund, a grin donning his features that stretched a mile wide. Grateful for the interruption, he hurried over and threw an arm around his old friend, immediately striking up a conversation. Then there was a scream, and he realized that there was someone else with them, which made for an excellent distraction for anyone who wanted one.
He watched her from afar as they sailed toward the Lone Islands. She looked peaceful and light like she didn’t have a care in the world. She had her eyes closed as the gentle breeze of the sea pushed her hair back.
He was about to go to her but saw Edmund walk up and stand to her left. He felt terrible listening in on what might be a private conversation, but he didn’t know how long he had with them, and he wanted—no, needed—to spend as much time with them as possible, even if they didn’t know he was there.
“You look happy, Lu.”
Lucy smiled at her brother. “I feel happy, Edmund.”
“You haven’t looked this well since we left Narnia the last time.” He told her. “It’s nice to see.”
Caspian sighed as he listened to them talk. It hurt his heart to know that she was unhappy in her world, and he couldn’t imagine a frown on her pretty face in place of the smile he had always known her to wear. He hated knowing that she was anything other than cheerful but knew it must happen sometimes.
Glancing around the deck, he noticed some of his men with their eyes closed and glanced at the stars. It seemed as though 11:11 had snuck up on him once again. Closing his eyes, he wished for Lucy to be happy, no matter where she was in the world. He wished for her never to feel the hurt he imagined she did whenever she had to leave her chosen home. Even more, he wished for her to feel as happy as she was in this moment forever.
Caspian grunted as he continually threw his foot against the metal doors of the cage they were being kept inside. They’d been caught by slave traders and were instantly separated from each other: Caspian and Edmund being sent to a cell and Lucy and Eustace being sent to auction. He’d been trying in vain to open the door for what seemed like hours. Growing tired, he sighed and noticed that Edmund had woken up.
After discovering their fellow prisoner was one of the lost lords he’d forgotten he was looking for—Lucy’s presence had taken him by surprise, making him forget his duties—he and Edmund watched as a boatful of people were sacrificed to an evil green mist. The feeling in his gut turned sour when Edmund mentioned finding Lucy before it was too late.
As they watched again while another boat was sent to the mist, Caspian caught a glimpse of the sun’s position in the sky and realized that it was once again that lucky time of day.
“I wish Lucy was free.” The raven-haired king said silently. “I wish she was free of these barbarians and safe.”
It wasn’t long before the cell opened, and they were being led outside to the auction. That’s when he caught a glimpse of her in the arms of a burly man, whose hands were roaming to places that made Caspian want to kill him.
Then he heard the unmistakable voice of their resident noble mouse and knew his wish would come true this time. She would be free even if he had to slaughter everyone to make it happen.
The sky was darker than anything he’d ever encountered in his life. They’d chosen to sail into the dark green mist to find the final lord, but even after his speech about being fearless, he wasn’t sure what would happen. The faith and trust his crew, and Lucy, showed him afterward had him unsure what to feel as he’d never seen that before. Now, though, he only had one thing in his mind.
Just as they were sailing into the mist, he caught a glimpse of Lucy and sighed. He knew her fears now, and it wasn’t what he had expected. She’d woken both him and Edmund a few weeks earlier and told them of her slip-up with the beauty spell. It broke his heart to see that she genuinely thought she wasn’t as beautiful as Susan. In Caspian’s opinion, she was even more beautiful than the star they’d met on Ramandu’s Island, which was saying a lot.
Looking around, he could see the mist swarming them on deck and stood next to Lucy as they prepared for the worst. He was unsure what to expect but never expected it to be as bad as it was.
It came in the form of Susan. The green mist took her shape and faced the young Pevensie woman spouting lies of ugliness and sorrow.
Glancing at his heart’s desire, he saw the tears building up in her eyes and moved without thinking. Her hand was in his the next moment, and the green mist was gone. She looked up at him, and he was afraid she’d pull away, but she just gripped his hand tighter and let a bold look settle in her eyes.
Catching a glimpse of the stars before they disappeared behind the mist, Caspian closed his eyes and wished for one more thing before they met their destinies. He wished, beyond all else, that Lucy stayed this fearless as they fought the coming battle. He wished that she believed the unspoken words in his heart that yearned to tell her how much her beauty affected him. He wished that she never thought of herself as second to anyone.
“This is our last time here, isn’t it?”
The words broke his heart almost as much as the tears that fell down her cheeks. He knew they’d have to leave at some point, but he’d let himself believe that day would never come, at least for a long time. Now it seemed to have arrived sooner than he was ready.
He hugged Edmund tightly, feeling the loss of family once more even though they were still there with him for a few more moments. Then came Lucy.
His arms went around her tightly, and he lifted her from the ground with the strength of the hug. As he set her down, she smiled sadly at him, and he couldn’t stop the words that flowed out of his mouth.
“Do you believe in 11:11?”
She stared at him in thought. “I didn’t know that was a thing here. I thought that only existed in our world.”
He shook his head. “I didn’t believe it until recently. And I know you’re leaving, but can I tell you what I wish for?”
She nodded. “Sure.”
“I wish for you to be happy. I wish for you to be free. I wish for you to be fearless; that’s wishes one, two, and three. And I won’t wish to be yours or for you to be mine, but I’ll wish them all for you every time.”
“Caspian…”
“And if one day the stars align, and you feel ready to be mine, I hope you’ll find the strength to come with trumpets, pipe, and drums. Because you’re worth waiting for, Lucy. You stopped my heart from fifty feet; it pumped and sang and skipped a beat. And when I sleep, my soul you keep.”
She was silent for a moment, and he was afraid he’d gone too far, but before he knew what was happening, she’d flung herself at him, her lips a gentle caress on his own that tasted sweeter than any fruit in the world.
Then she stepped back, tears streaming down her face again, and turned going to hug Aslan. She walked straight past him then and followed Edmund and Eustace to the opening that would take them home.
Caspian sat in his castle, staring out at the morning skyline. It had been months since Lucy had left him with that final kiss on the beach, and though he’d brought Lilliandil home to court, his heart was still with the petite brunette that had captured his heart.
“Your Majesty!” Trumpkin came running into the room, out of breath and looking frantic. “You’re needed outside. There is a parade of people coming towards the castle.”
He followed his friend immediately, his brain kicking into the leadership role, and halted as they got to the front gates. There was indeed a parade of people cheering and singing along to a song played by trumpets, pipes, and drums. He wondered what they were parading for when his heart stopped for the first time in months.
She smiled at him as she emerged from the crowd, a shy smirk that had his insides melting. “I hope I didn’t make too much of a commotion, but you did say to come with trumpets, pipe, and drums.”
Then she walked forward, and he pulled her close, never to let her go again.

After Prince Caspian didn’t make the oodles of money that the first Chronicles of Narnia film made, Disney decided that they weren’t interested in making more of these movies. Walden Media managed to get 20th Century Fox to distribute a third movie with them, and hoped to do more after that, though after losing the film rights those plans stalled and were eventually cancelled.
[Fox’s entertainment is owned by Disney now though so all three movies can be found on Disney+.]
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was always going to be a difficult story to adapt, because while it’s fantastical it doesn’t have a Plot that works very well for a big budget fantasy film. There is no one villain for the heroes to defeat; the quest is to explore and find the Seven Lost Lords of Telmar that have been missing for years. Drawing inspiration from mythology and medieval literature about extraordinary voyages, it involves the heroes going from one island to another and encountering very weird stuff. Also Reepicheep wants to get to Aslan’s Country, which he believes is on the other side of the ocean.
It’s a delightful book, but how does one translate that into a movie?
Walden Media decided instead to sort of change the Plot. Caspian is still looking for the Seven Lost Lords, but there’s also an ancient evil haunting the seas east of Narnia, and the only way to defeat it is with special swords the Seven Lords took with them, and place them on Aslan’s Table near the edge of the world. Some of the islands are condensed or rearranged in where they show up in the Plot to make it all fit together. Eustace remains a dragon for significantly longer, which isn’t a problem for me because I love dragons. In the end, the journey to Aslan’s Country is less of a metaphor-made-real about getting to Heaven as much as, “Welp we kind of ended up here on the way to do something else.” The result is I think nowhere near as meaningful as the book, but it IS a fun fantasy film.
Also the evil Green Mist that appears throughout this movie was apparently meant to be foreshadowing for/related to the Lady of the Green Kirtle, the antagonist of _The Silver Chair_ and so I’m more than a bit bummed that there wasn’t a sequel to this film, as I am VERY curious to see how Walden Media would have adapted that character.
Anyway the Plot goes like this: World War II is still going on and while Peter and Susan are with their parents in America, Edmund and Lucy are staying with their cousin Eustace who they don’t quite get along with. Edmund’s a bit bummed about not having any authority even now that he’s out of Peter’s shadow, and Lucy feels like she never got the attention that her older sister got. And Eustace is a bit of a useless full-of-himself jerk.
AND THEN THEY GO TO NARNIA! They’re picked up by Caspian (who after a few Narnian years no longer has a Spanish accent) who is sailing east from Narnia to find out what happened to the Seven Lost Lords of Telmar, seven nobles who were supporters of his father who were sent out to the Lone Islands by Miraz and never returned. On this quest they discover a strange Green Mist that haunts the seas and makes people disappear sometimes.
So it’s like that.
I think it mostly works as an adaptation if you can accept the changes they made. But there are a couple of things that are a bit annoying. Lucy’s arc, for starters: this movie shows that she’s envious of the attention Susan got from others because of her beauty. And while that’s an understandable character trait, it has never been seen before this film. If this wasn’t a series it wouldn’t an issue, but it is so unlike Edmund’s desire to be out of Peter’s shadow and be recognized on his own (a trait that was present in the very first film and downplayed in the second), this feels like it comes out of nowhere. I get that it’s to adapt a scene from the novel in which Lucy is tempted to use a spell from the enchanter’s book to become beautiful, so I don’t mind it too much, but it IS a bit sloppily done, I think.
We’re also told that the journey is meant to test our heroes, and by that we’re shown them being tempted to give in to their desires, and Caspian doesn’t really get as much of that as the others. Edmund and Lucy get a lot of testing, and Eustace gets turned into a freaking dragon, but Caspian’s testing is mostly limited to a couple of scenes at most. In the book he has more, especially when reaching the border of Aslan’s Country--his subjects have to bluntly tell him that he can’t go there yet because as king he has other duties, and it’s not until he sulks in the cabin and has a conversation with Aslan does he realize that they’re right. The film does show that he wants to go, but of his own wisdom knows that he has to serve his people.
Still, it is a good movie full of great character moments. Edmund took sort of a backseat in _Prince Caspian_ and here he gets to shine as a lead character. Eustace is delightful in how annoying he is and how he gets better. And Reepicheep, dear Reepicheep, who is AWESOME (and voiced by Simon Pegg this time around).
[Oh and Tilda Swinton appears as the White Witch in visions brought on by the Green Mist--which, if it IS meant to be brought on by the Lady of the Green Kirtle, who in the books has an unclear connection to Jadis, has VERY interesting implications. The real reason is that Tilda Swinton loved working in the first movie and was happy for any excuse to come back, and they liked having her so they let her do it.]
It has good characters, it has great scenes, and it has solid acting. The Plot feels a bit weaker this time around, in large part because they’re made up a new one and they’re desperately trying to “recapture the magic of the first film” (no really, watch any promotional interviews and that phrase, or something like it, is dropped a bajillion times). Still, it’s not a bad Plot, just one that doesn’t sound that original or strong. I think the movie is definitely still fun and worth watching.
I don’t know if it feels this way because it’s the last movie Walden Media made, but the ending feels like a cap to the trilogy in a way that’s both fitting and a bit sad. If you’re a fan of these  movies, you will definitely want to see this movie just for completion’s sake (or as close to complete as one can do since the series didn’t finish). I think book fans will like it, but if you’re a novel purist then it’s possible you won’t because so much was changed.

A change of heart (Peter Pevensie Imagine)
Tumblr media
Anon: Please I love your Lieutenant imagine. I need more Peter imagines!
Anon: Could you write something about Peter from Chronicles of Narnia??
Anon: Hello!!!!!!! I was wondering if you could do a Peterxreader where she is with Jadis and has a change of heart and decide to help Aslan. Love your bloggg
________________________________________________________________
(Peter’s POV)
When I saw them coming I got really scared for my brother. Something was telling me this was no good. I saw four cyclopes carrying her. But something caught my eye. There was a girl! Just right behind Jadis.
“That’s the girl I told you about” Edmund said.
“I can’t believe she’s with her” Susan wishpered to me.
“And alive” I told them without taking my eyes off of her. She looked at me and I’d swear I saw a look of sorrow in her eyes.
“I heard the dwarfs talking about her. It happens Jadis took pity when she found her years ago and tried to raise her as her own daughter”
“Then she’s as bad as Jadis”
“Actually, Susan, she was the only gentle one there. When Orius and the rest came to save me, she didn’t put up a fight”
Everything happened so fast. I tried to protect my brother but she was right: I was just some boy pretending to be someone I wasn’t ready to be. In spite of that, I wasn’t going to let her took my brother, not again. Not without fighting. But then, Aslan proposed her to go inside his tent to discuss the fate of my brother. I was trully pissed of I wasn’t going to be part of that. A few minutes passed and Edmund got up and led his way to the girl, who was standing next to the minotaur. They both looked at him and the beast growled. Edmund stood there as I was amazed by his bravery. Some of our centaurs came closer but they didn’t take the swords out. The girl shook her head discreetly and he came back. At that time, Aslan and Jadis came out and told us that Edmund was free to go. I hugged him tightly and cheered for the big news, but I couldn’t help and looked at the girl. Jadis was telling her something in her ear right before leaving. The girl tried to called her but Jadis ignored her. She looked at Aslan and then to Edmund. She knew something. Our eyes met for a moment but the minotaur took her arm and led her out.
(Y/N’s POV)
As I saw Aslan coming to the Stone Table, I knew that everything had changed. He was willing to sacrifice himself for a boy he barely knew. Just because he was supposed to be one of the kings of Narnia. Like if a switch turned on in my head, I realized that I was doing everything wrong. I looked at Jadis, who was waiting for Aslan to come closer. She would never do that. Not for anyone. Not even for me. Aslan was different. He stood by what was right and what he believes in.
“Jadis, listen, I need to tell you something”
“You shut up! This is MY moment.”
I grabbed her arm. “I know but you must know that-” with one quickly movement she cut part of my cheek with the knive she was holding.
“Get away” she hissed me. I let her go and ran away. I was frustrated. I didn’t want this. My believes were screaming to me. I could pretend anymore.
As I was walking away, I heard Jadis scream and I stopped. Aslan was gone. Without turning back to see his death body, I tried not to scream. Aslan was what I was looking for in a leader. Bravery, wisdom, courage, kidness and justice. I started walking when I saw two girls hugging behind the trees. They were Edmund’s sisters. The older one put the youngest behind her.
“Calm down, I’m not going to hurt you” I said.
“You’ve already done that” I looked down as she continue “You know he dies for our brother. He didn’t deserve that. He was-”
“Innocent” I said and looked at them. I few tears dropped.
“Are you crying?” the youngest asked, coming out behind her sister. I din’t know what to say to them. All I could feel was a mix of feelings: realising you are in the wrong path, your true self fighting to show up from the deepest of your heart.
“Do you believe in changes of heart?” I asked. The sisters looked at each other. Lucy came closer to me and grabbed my hand.
“We know what you did to our brother. My name is Lucy and she’s Susan”
“I’m (Y/N)”
(Peter’s POV)
When the trees told us about Aslan’s death I felt overwhelmed. Now everybody was expecting the leader I was supposed to be. The truth was, I wasn’t ready.
I was with Orius and Edmund trying to came up with a plan. Actually, I was lost. All the pressure suddenly made me feel weak but I couldn’t dissapoint them. Not now that they trully need me.
“Any ideas?” Edmund said.
“I have one” a girl voice said behind me. I turned around and we all took our weapons out. Pointing at her, I could admire her better. She had a long ponytail, a sword in her right hand and, unlike my sisters, she wasn’t wearing a dress.
“What are you doing here?” Edmund asked putting his sword down. Orius and I still pointing at her.
She kneeled and put her sword on the floor.
“I’m here to help you defeat Jadis. I must make it up for him”
“I don’t need you to make anything up for me” I said still confused.
“I’m sorry, but I wasn’t talking about you” she said at me, which hurt me a little. I stared at her and I realised she was, indeed, really beautiful.
“We shouldn’t trust in you... you were with her and now you want to defeat the woman who gave you power?” Orius said.
She got up, leaving her sword on the flor and with her hands up.
“I wouldn’t trust me if I were in your position but your sisters believe in me” she said looking at my brother and me. “I don’t want power if it comes with nothing to stand up for. I saw what Aslan did... that’s the power I trully believe in”.
After accepting her, we started to prepare us for the battle.I asked Edmund to stand with the archers. In the meantime, I got to know (Y/N) a litte bit and she amazed me. I asked her to help hippogryphs so she wouldn’t be in first line when all this started. As I saw Jadis’ army coming to us, just as (Y/N) told us, I got nervous and a little scared. I looked at Orius for support when I heard a horse right next to me. I looked at the mysterious rider. It was (Y/N). She was looking at Jadis with serious eyes.
“What are you doing here? I told you to stay behind”
I got nervous and tensed up. It was strange but something was telling me she deserved to be protected. In fact, she treated my brother nicely when he was captured and that was something I woul always be gratefull for.
“Really? And leave you here with all the fun?” she said smiling “No, my king, never in your wildest dreams”
Our eyes met and I could help but smile. I prayed for someone to calm me down and give me the strength I needed, and it turned out it was her.
“Did you just call me ‘king’?” I said smiking.
Jadis screamed and her army moved. I looked at them and took my sword out. I took a deep breath and I did the signal.
“Just, don’t die in battle!” she shouted at me, joining our army.
“Hope you neither” I wishpered as I join Orius in battle.

Narnia is a Genre
Or, a handful of songs I refuse to believe weren’t specifically written for The Chronicles of Narnia
“Yesterday’s Apples,” Michel Lengrand and Natalie Dessay
Yesterday’s children were younger/yesterday’s spring was a song/yesterday’s breezes were softer/yesterday’s summers were long/I’ve looked for yesterday’s apples in every apple I’ve tried since then
(To be clear, I very much associate this song with the Pevensies at the beginning of PC, just having realized that they’re in Narnia. I’m not of the opinion that the Pevensies pined for Narnia after returning to England. That said, the lyrical specificity of this song’s first verse to Narnia is uncanny)
“On Trees and Birds and Fire,” I Am Oak
Trees, oh trees, do you remember me/from before/from before?
(This one is also pretty uncanny)
“Long Live,” Taylor Swift
“You held your head like a hero/on a history book page/it was the end of a decade/but the start of an age”
(True story, I actually made a PowerPoint relating this song to Narnia when Speak Now came out and I was in, like, middle school.)
“The Lord is Good,” RYM Worship
The Lord is good, the Lord is good/He may not be safe, but He is good/The Lord is just, the Lord is kind/The Lord is wrath and love at the same time
(This is a little bit of a cheat, since I’m pretty confident that it’s referencing LWW directly. That said, not nearly enough people know it. Go listen to it!)
“Creation of Earth,” Thomas Bergson
Instrumental
(This captures the atmosphere I imagine for the creation of Narnia, if not Aslan’s song itself. The roaring sounds (lion?) at the end are a nice touch)
“I Remember,” Stephan Sondheim, from the TV musical Evening Primrose
I remember days/or at least I try/but as years go by/they’re a sort of haze/and the bluest ink/isn’t really sky/and at times I think/I would gladly die/for a day of sky
(Not a perfect fit, I know, but I’ve specifically avoided finding anything out about the plot/premise of Evening Primrose for years specifically because this song reminds me so strongly of SC)
“Here I Am,” Chris Rensema and Moriah Hazeltime
Winter has passed and the spring has arrived/winter had passed and the spring has arrived/Here I am/You have found me/Here I am
(The bridge of this song evokes Aslan and the coming of spring in LWW more strongly than I can describe, at least for me)
“We Will Go Home (Song of the Exiles),” Aron van Selm
Land of freedom, land of heroes/Land that gave us hope and memories/Hear our singing, hear our longing/We will go home across the mountains”
(I think this was written for a movie that I haven’t seen? Or maaaybe a video game? But it vividly evokes Bree and Hwin for me)
“Seagull Chorale,” Sarah Nichols
Instrumental
(This is exactly the sound of the Last Sea.)
“The Projectionist,” Sleeping at Last
So we’re leaving, we’re leaving our shadows behind us now/We’re leaving, we’re leaving it all behind for now/And it makes us brave again
("Further up and further in” in musical form. Thanks nothinggold13!)
“Sailing on a Ship,” Phil Wickham
I’m sailing on a ship that’s bound for light/I wrestle with the wind against the tide/I leave it all behind to reach for more/I’m sailing on to Your golden shore
(Okay, I almost didn’t include this one because Phil Wickham is associated with Bethel Church, which is high-key heretical. Definitely don’t play his music at your church; whether you're okay playing it for personal use is a private matter. This isn’t even a good worship song; it’s all about the singer rather than about God, never mentions Jesus, or even really says anything specific about God/His attributes. HOWEVER, as a song about VDT, it’s mind-blowingly good. It captures the sense of awe and pervasive light as you approach Aslan’s country darn near perfectly. So if you can think about it as a song about Narnia rather than about God, it’s really great. My friends and I used to sing it all the time coming back from youth group back in the day. IDK dude.)

‘The Parable of the Prodigal Daughter’ | The Chronicles of Narnia ficlet
Title: The Parable of the Prodigal Daughter
Fandom: The Chronicles of Narnia
Time of events: after ‘The Last Battle’, the 7th and final book
Word count: 1.5k
A/N: Here comes another story that I wrote a while back for a competition, this time outside Tumblr. It was meant to contain certain keywords proposed by the organizers and some of them reminded me of Narnia, so I shortly presented how I imagined Susan Pevensie’s fate after ‘The Last Battle’; it also plays with the idea of The Parable of the Prodigal Son from The Gospel of Luke. The story might spoil some events from ‘The Last Battle’, but If you decide to read it, enjoy! :)
Tumblr media
I’m sleeping deeply, as deeply as never before. This must be this state I was often told about, the state that resembles death, because it’s so hard to be awaken from it. When the sun finally forces me to open my eyes, I feel like Morpheus is still embracing me and it’s just another dream in front of me. I’m not in my own bedroom, where I went to sleep last night, but in a small clearing surrounded by a thick forest. With each passing second, I feel more confused – I didn’t expect waking up in such place, especially since I have no idea where I am exactly. I don’t even remember the clothes I’m wearing – it’s a dark green dress with golden decorations, which, I swear, I have never seen before. Or maybe...? The longer I observe it, the more familiar it seems. I move my hand across one of the sleeves and place it on my arm. I can feel some other material under my fingertips than the one the drees is made of, although as delicate. It takes me a moment to realise it’s my hair. Not earlier than two days ago did I go to the hairdresser, where I had my hair cut short. It’s impossible for them to grow back past the shoulder-length so soon. Besides that, I notice the lock that I hold is utterly black, just like in my youth. Strange... A couple months ago I started noticing grey highlights on my head and recently I didn’t even try to hide them. They couldn’t disappear just like that... I carefully look at my hands, I touch my face – everything seems to be the way it was many years ago, just like I got at least two decades younger overnight.
Although I don’t really understand the situation I’m in, and I don’t have any rational explanation for it other than it all being a dream, I’m not panicking. Maybe it’s the thought of it being the dream that calms me down, or maybe it’s the fact that with each second I feel like I recognize the area more. I decide to move on with hope I’ll meet someone or something that can explain where I am. I slowly walk into the forest. I wander for a long time, so long I finally lose the sense of time and space, which rarely happens to me. Despite the passing time it’s still bright, I can see through the trees that the sun didn’t even begin to set, although I woke up in the clearing in the afternoon – or at least that’s how it felt. I also don’t feel the fatigue, even if I should after such a long walk.
When I start to think I’m completely lost, the trees begin to thin out. A couple of steps are enough for me to find myself on the edge of the forest. On the horizon I can see ruins of a castle placed on the hill towering over the area. My stomach tightens; for some reason I feel I have already seen that hill and that castle, even though I can’t connect them to any memory. After a short hesitation I decide to go on. Maybe over there, in these ruins, the solution to the mystery of what’s going on is waiting for me?
I’ve been walking for at least another hour through the plain between me and the hill. The sun still doesn’t change its position, but with each step I seem to mind it less. Excitement slowly starts to fill me, just like when... When? In my head there’s a glimmer of an old, strong feeling, connected – I’m almost hundred percent sure – to this weird land I’m walking through. It’s like I subconsciously know I’ve visited this place before and it made me feel... happy.
I finally reach my destination. The only thing left is climbing up the hill. Stone steps extending from its basis up to the top help me a lot. Luckily, I don’t need to worry about looking for the entrance to the castle – the walls are broken and full of holes, I can simply sneak in through one of them. Inside I see the remains of other walls that give me idea of how specific rooms looked. The one I’m currently in seems like a former armoury – on the floor covered with grass lie different types of weapons, like a small dagger, a sword, a bow with an empty quiver... This sight reminds me of childhood games, specifically one game. When we were young, me and my siblings had our magical land, where we would go thanks to the power of imagination. We were its kings and queens, each of us had their own nickname, as well as a weapon they would use at wars – I was the most remarkable of the archers. Do I remember correctly that this whole thing was Lucy’s idea? Oh, Lucy... I would give a lot to see my little sister again. Maybe now, in this peculiar dream, I will see her for at least a moment? Her, our brothers, our parents, all those people close to me who were taken away in this accident... I shake my head. Right now, I shouldn’t allow myself to fall apart or go back to this childishness, it’s not going to help me anyway. It doesn’t matter if this situation is a dream or anything else, I need to find a way out of it, and if there’s no way out, I need to pass the time somehow. I cannot just sit down and cry.
As time passes, I slowly become weaker. I’m ready to give up my walk around the castle when I enter a hall that must’ve been a throne hall once. It’s enormous, and on the other end from where I’m standing, I can see a platform. On the platform there are the remains of four chairs. Four thrones... for four siblings? I had two brothers and a sister. Isn’t it what the ruins of the royal residence we created in our dreams would look like?
Suddenly I start to understand. That magical land we used to call Narnia truly exists. I truly were one of the four rulers, I truly met so many fantastic creatures I thought would only belong to the world of imagination. But... if I remember correctly, no one could come to Narnia of their own accord, whenever they wanted. It required a special call, special circumstances. Was I summoned here then?
“Do you believe in Narnia now, Susan Pevensie, Daughter of Eve?” someone behind me asks.
I turn around to see a huge lion.
“Aslan?” I say stupidly; of course, I know it’s Him, the Lion, the creator of Narnia, superior to any of the Narnian kings, stronger and more important than we, the Pevensie siblings, have ever been.
“Yes, it is me” he answers calmly and repeats his question: “Do you believe, Susan?”
I want to admit that yes, now that I arrived in Narnia again, I’m sure I believe in it, but I can’t. I can’t tell him that, not after he took all my loved ones away from me, the people I couldn’t even meet now. If Narnia exists and all of them – in opposition to me, the doubtful prodigal daughter – always strongly believed in it, even while being away from the wonders of this land, even when it all felt like a dream, shouldn’t they be here? Why couldn’t I find them anywhere?
“Don’t worry about your loved ones” Aslan says, as if he read my mind. “They are in Narnia. The New Narnia. It’s the land similar to the one you should remember from the past, yet much more beautiful. What you see around you now is the illusion of the country you got to know when you were its queen. I brought you here so that you would come to the land you know well first, to remind you of everything you should’ve always remembered. In a moment I’ll take you where your destination is.”
His words bring me relief. There’s only one thing left that I don’t understand.
“Aslan... I suppose they all came here after the accident, I mean, after they died. Does it mean I...”
“Yes. You left your world in your sleep. You have not believed in this land for a long time, but through your loneliness you have suffered enough. It was a good moment to call you here.”
“Thank you, Aslan.”
“Don’t thank me, Susan. Just tell me, do you believe now?”
“I believe” I answer confidently.
The lion smiles. The other, past Susan would probably thing that it’s impossible for animals to smile, that it must be an illusion, but I know He can truly smile.
“You were dead and are alive again; you were lost and are found” Aslan says and leans. “Hop on my back, sit comfortably and hold on to my mane. There is a long journey ahead of us.”
Without unnecessary delays I accept the invitation. When I make myself comfortable, Aslan shakes his head and roars. I feel tears appear in my eyes – tears of relief and happiness. One stage of my life is ending right now, when the next one begins, and I know it’s going to be the most beautiful of all.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Battle of Calormen
All rights to C. S. Lewis
Chapter 8: "Bad weather"
With the first weak rays of sun and the cool and salty morning breeze coming from the sea, a squirrel and three mice left Cair Paravel. They would travel north for two days, half the time it would take to the company that would leave the second morning after their departure, unaware to any of this.
This schedule would give them time to get to the dwarves, unnoticed, to let them know of the arrival of the company and keep an eye on the road for any altercation the soldiers might encounter. All this while staying hidden, all the time.
The Kings and Diácano saw them departure from an archway hidden behind large plants near the castle walls. Hoping for the best they turned as soon as they saw the last red feather from the mice's hat disappear in the tall grass near the woods that surrounded part of the castle.
Too many things had to be arranged yet before the company left towards the dwarves. But by the end of day there were fifteen, men and creatures, all volunteers and very skilled warriors of the King's Army. Despite the Erasmus' resistance they concluded that it was for the best if Diácano leaded this mission.
So the rest of the time before their departure he kept Casio, his fellow centaur and second in command, by his side giving him guidelines to follow in his absence.
On the evening before the company's departure Edmund was walking back to his chambers for a quick clean up before supper when he spotted Susan by a window in the dim corridor.
"The weather is changing" stated Susan sensing his presence, not taking her eyes from what she was looking out from the window. He had wanted to talk with his sister since their arrival to the castle two weeks ago but she seemed determined to avoid him.
Edmund came to a stop besides her and look out too from the window. They could see the sea, furious waves crashing on the rocks of the cliffs, dark clouds covering the sky. It had been like this for a few days now that he thought of it. "What do you mean?" he asked her anyways.
She looked at him for a second, thinking her answer and then turned to the window again. "Come on, a monsoon?" she ironically questioned.
"Well, I wouldn't say it is a monsoon, the weather has been quite humid these last few days, it's just a storm probably", he speculated.
But Susan just shook her head, "It's something else, you can feel it too Ed" she nudged him gently "like something is moving in the shadows, slowly stirring and getting ready. Darkness." Although what she was saying was alarming her voice was calm and quiet, her blue eyes never leaving the sea, and her face serene.
They stood in silence while Edmund let this sink in. Indeed, there was something else from the weather itself, but he couldn't put his finger on it, which made him wiry, so he decided to drop that and instead he asked something that was bothering him as much as the freaking weather but it was something he could get an answer about.
"What's going on Su? You seem out of it since we've come to Narnia".
"I thought it was over" she simply said.
"We are not supposed to be here Edmund. We weren't coming back. This was over" her eyes blazed with irritation.
"But aren't you happy to be back? We are in Narnia" Edmund couldn't grasp the idea that his sister was in such discomfort in Narnia. It was impossible for him to imagine.
"Ask yourself this same question once this is over and you are back in your Cambridge room preparing for exams, pretending everything is normal when two days before you were a king" she said bitterly. "Edmund, can't you see? This won't last, soon this will all disappear as if nothing ever happened. And at what cost? This is a war Ed, anything could go wrong, a poor shooting and someone could die".
Edmund's head was spinning, of course he knew the risks but he never actually stopped and thought about them, like he felt safe like those things wouldn't happen to them and at the end they would go back home as and feel sad about living but that's how it was supposed to be. That was the plan.
"How can you go back from an experience so splendid as it is Narnia to England and being no one?" she asked him intently, her eyes were glassy from all the tears threatening to fall down her face, his sister's face showed so much sorrow that he felt the desperate need to hug her, and so he did. He held his sister in his arms while silent tears wet his shirt. He felt so bad for her.
"You are not anyone. Don't say that Su. We love you, you are our sister, that's who you are, and you don't have to pretend to be anyone else. You have us and we have you. Forever. And Narnia leaves within us as long as we keep believing it is." he spoke quietly in her ear trying to soothe her.
Slowly she looked up at him with puffy eyes and a red nose "You promise?"
"Of course. No matter what" he reassured her. She smiled weakly but this time it didn't falter.
They walk silently to their chambers in the west wing and stopped first in her door.
"Thank you Ed. You are becoming a great man and I am very proud of you" she said sincerely touching his hand and then got into her room closing the door behind her, not before saying "I'll see you in a minute for supper. Clean yourself up." This made Edmund smile widely.
As he walked across the corridor to his chamber he couldn't stop thinking about what Susan said, her words resonated in his head. Yes, it was difficult to go back, he struggled a lot to find his place on Earth, but these experiences shaped him as a person, he had learnt so much from Narnia, he was a better person because of it. And not for a minute he doubt about Aslan's choices.
He had done some bad things in the past that still haunted him after years. It was his forever debt. But he tried to mend it every day and it was because of this place that he changed. He would never regret coming to Narnia.
But he never actually thought how this affected his siblings. He assumed going back was hard for all of them and that coming back was the best thing that would ever happen to them. Guess he was wrong. He was aware of Peter's struggle and reluctance the first time, and Lucy's hope, he knew she never gave up, she always saw the possibility of returning but continued on with her life. And Susan, she seemed to have it all figured out, she seemed to be the one who had adapted the fastest. It was true that their siblings had noticed she was a friend of parties and social relationships. Almost in excess. They saw her become materialist, but he never thought there was an underreason for that behavior.
He felt ashamed he didn't realize before. His sister was suffering and none of the siblings had realized that. Consumed in these thoughts he prepared for dinner. He still had a few minutes so he plopped down on the bed. His head was a wheel that wouldn't stop turning and with his eyes closed he lost himself in the madness of his broodings.
And like that Peter found him, sprawled in his bed, ayes closed and his forehead creased.
"You know, I thing you already have wrinkles on your forehead" He joked leaning over the frame door of his chambers.
Edmund sighed heavily "don't you ever knock?" he asked irritably.
"You know I don't. Remember that time I caught you –"he started joking.
"Shut up" Peter always liked to laugh at that incident from when he was younger. And this moment was not the exception as he was snickering from the door.
Seeing as his brother didn't react but stayed laying down with the same worried expression Peter calm himself and closed the door behind him before sitting on the chair next to his bed. "What's got you so worried?"
Edmund turned to face him, his elbow sinking on the mattress as he leaned on it. "I talked to Susan" hearing this Peter straightened in the chair listening carefully "I assume you notice her behavior?" Edmund asked him seeing how his brother seemed so interested.
"Of course I've noticed, I talked about this with Lucy. Wait, should I call her?" he asked standing up.
"Nonono, I'll talk to her later, I don't want to make Susan uncomfortable when she sees the three of us coming together for supper" to which Peter nodded his head in understanding and sat down again. "She's not happy to be here, it is difficult to her to be back, she is struggling with our reality back home. We have to be there for her before she loses her way Peter" he quickly explained.
Peter sat there, his hand on his chin, thinking "Well, I understand. And I am not surprised by this. It was hard for me too, and it is hard now. I am afraid of going back home, and I am afraid to lose one of you here. This is a war after all" to this Edmund opened his eyes in surprised but when he tried to talk Peter cut him off getting up and patting his shoulder "I'll talk to her later Ed. Thanks for telling me. Come on, let's head down for supper".
As they turned in the hallway to the dining room they saw King Erasmus and Bill talking at the entrance and as they approached the wooden doors they could hear Erasmus talking.
"I'm sorry Bill, but not this time. Alright?" he apologized Erasmus while Bill was looking down nodding his head.
"Alright" he sounded disappointed when he spoke.
"Cheer up boy! There are plenty of things to do here equal in importance" Erasmus tried to cheer him up and clapped his back urging him to the dining room while the corner of Bill's mouth quirked up.
They caught up with Erasmus at the wooden door he was looking at Bill's back restlessness.
"All good there?" Peter asked curiously.
Looking at us with a smile he said offhandedly "Oh yes!" but his smiled faltered and he shook his head with apprehension "Bill wants to go with the company to the north, but I am afraid I cannot allow that, it would be irresponsible of me, he is not that experienced as the others" he finally said.
"Well, I agree with that decision, it is an unnecessary risk, he can stay here and train more for what's coming" coincided Peter.
"Exactly, but he is young and excited with all this new things here and all the skills he discovered he has, that I'm afraid he might do something, well, stupid" Erasmus admitted.
Both brothers nodded their heads in understanding.
"Maybe I could train with him" Edmund offered.
"Oh that would be extraordinary!" Erasmus exclaimed "he really respects your abilities Edmund" and smiling broadly he entered the room.
"Is this your way of getting the sister to notice you?" asked Peter quietly with a wink and quickly turns around before Edmund could even answer leaving him rolling his eyes while following suit.
They sat around the table along with Susan, Lucy, Bill, Calantha and Erasmus. They ate dinner quietly making small conversation.
"Bill?" called Edmund casually to the boy who was toying with his food across the table, he looked up at him "I am training tomorrow, would you like to join me? I saw you have a few tricks, maybe we could exchange some moves? I am afraid I'm a little rusty, I could use the practice" he proposed.
Bill's eyes went round and he almost dropped the glass on his plate in his excitement "really? Yes, that would be awesome! Maybe you can teach me how you dodged that soldier the other day? It was amazing!" he really looked like a child on a sweet shop.
"Sure" answered Edmund with a smile, Bill's smile was contagious. Resuming on his dinner he noticed out of the corner of his eye how Lucy was smiling while she watched Bill sitting in front of her, and Edmund knew that little that had to do with his smile being contagious.
"Where is Anne? I haven't seen her all day?" asked Susan suddenly looking around the table, to this question Edmund perked his ears but said nothing continuing to eat his dinner. "Is she alright?"
"Oh yes, she is fine. She is out collecting some herbs with the centaurs, you know tonight's the full moon and all that stuff, apparently what they collect today will be special" said Bill nonchalant.
"Well, let's hope the rain doesn't catch her! This weather is horrible!" Mentioned Calantha and to this comment Susan straightened up and nervously looked out the window at the dark sky. "Everything alright dear?" asked Calantha looking at her with concern.
"Yes" answered Susan, maybe a little too hurried and brightly for anyone to buy it, but no one commented on it.
By the time they left the dining room a few lightnings could be seen in the dark sky.
The next morning the company went north through the mud that the rain from last night had caused.

Movie Review/Why This Movie Affected Me: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (2005)

Movie Review/Why this movie affected me:
Oh, Narnia. A magical world that I had often dreamt of traveling to as a child. Even now into adulthood, I wish I could be whisked away through a magical wardrobe that left into a land that I could only imagine in my mind.
When this movie first came out in theaters, I was about the same age as Lucy (the actress and I are the same age anyway!), and I am so glad that I got to experience this movie when magic was still filling so much of my imagination. Not that it isn’t now, but it was more intense back then.
Just recently, I had watched this movie again. It is one that I can watch over and over, and never get tired of. It is one that has captured so much of my life that I don’t think I could ever shake it. It was one that stuck with me at age nine, and it’s still fully grasping my heart after so long.
I don’t think anyone will understand why this movie had been so apart of my soul. I don’t remember if anything specific convinced me to go see this movie or if my mom just took me, but I do remember how I felt afterward. I felt like I was empowered, like I had been brought to life. I was obsessed with this movie—and I mean OBSESSED. I talked about it so much in elementary school that other kids were constantly telling me to shut up. I wanted to learn archery because of this movie (my grandpa did teach me!), I had become enchanted with sword fights and armor from this movie, and I fell in love with every single character. I remember crying in the theater when the White Witch killed Aslan, and even more so when he came back to life (let’s be honest, I still cry now), and the absolute wonder of this world of Narnia. As I’ve grown up, I’ve come to realize how much I loved stories of kids traveling into other worlds as a kid. More so than magical things existing in our world (though, I did love Spiderwick Chronicles around this same time frame). I had wanted to fall down a rabbit hole or walk through a wardrobe so much that I had ached as a child.
Growing up, I remember always wanting to be Susan. I dreamt of being so beautiful and wonderful like her (and actually, I am a bit like her when I think about it—I am a bit too serious, I see some things in black and white, and I would probably be hesitant about going into battle), and she was like an idol to me in this movie. But the more I age, the more I realize, especially at the time of seeing this movie, I was more like Lucy. I was a little girl who had believed in what would be considered too many magical things, and I was a bit of a loner. I had dreamt of magic places and characters, and I would be off playing by myself whenever I got the chance. I was teased by other kids, I was made fun of, I was called a freak to my face and whispered about when I was nearby. So, when Lucy is telling the other kids about her experience in Narnia, and they don’t believe her, and Edmund makes fun of her, I know exactly how that feels. One hundred percent. So those moments always get to me. But also like Lucy, I still chose to believe what I believed in, and didn’t take crap from anyone. And I think, in the end, here so many years later, it was for the best. It was what made me who I am.
A few examples to show how much I love this movie, at that age and now—one of them is, when I was a kid and got this movie on DVD, I watched it over and over until I memorized every line, until I could quote the whole movie if I wanted to. And even to this day, when I probably don’t watch the movie for quite some time in between, I can STILL quote every line in the movie. I can say them along the characters, even when I’m not looking directly at the screen. It’s just one of those movies for me.
The other example was a few years ago. My family and I had gone to Seattle to visit, and we went into their big Pop Culture museum they have up there (I forgot what it’s called, I apologize), and I was touring through the Fantasy area, where they had props and costumes of so many fantasy movies. I had turned the corner, and just right there, I saw it instantly. It was Susan’s bow and arrows, and her horn. I remember whispering, “Narnia,” and I rushed over there and started crying. Then, just nearby, was the White Witch’s dress and staff. My mom had to come find me blubbering in the corner (I was luckily all by myself) and pull me away because I kept staring at them. I had felt like a kid again, so excited and amazed that I was looking right at these props of a movie that had changed my whole life.
If it isn’t easy to figure out, I love everything about this movie, even as an adult. It gives me the same feelings a child, though I can look at it from the adult perspective. Like I think it’s pretty incredible that all these children could go into a war and come out alive (though, yes, I do know that most of them are older than they are in the books—I did read all the books after I saw this movie!). It’s pretty amazing. But I do agree that they were strong characters in the first place, with a strong sense of right and wrong.
The cast, I think, are the most important part of this film. All four of the kids were absolutely perfect, and for their ages, fantastic actors in my opinion. William Moseley and Anna Popplewell slip so well into their characters that to me it felt so seamless. Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley were younger, so their portrayals were a little rougher, but honestly, they were still so good, considering their ages. Everyone else was just as wonderful—Tilda Swinton as the evil White Witch was horrifying, James McAvoy as Mr. Tumnus is just so sweet (and I somehow got Tumnus in a personality test?!!?), and the ultimate Liam Neeson as Aslan was the best casting.
Let’s talk about Aslan for a moment. I do know very well about the connections of these stories with Christian allegories that may or may not have been purposeful by C. S. Lewis (though, we can also discuss how Lewis was raised Christian, then became an atheist, then Pagan, then Christian again at the convincing of his friends—I’m looking at you Tolkien—so I think a lot of his work is influenced by it all), but can I just say: if Aslan is God, I’m one hundred percent okay with that. I think Aslan as a view of God is exactly what Christians should believe in for their God. I myself am not religious at all, but I know a lot of Christians and I have read the large chunks of Bible for Literature Studies, so I think I get the grasp of some of their beliefs. And most of the Christians I know, or people (like my family) that had been raised in churches and religion, believe in a God that is kind and watchful and just lets people live their lives (yes, I know, not everyone believes in this version of God, I’m just speaking on experience from talking to people that I know that believe in God). And I think Aslan reflects that well. He is “not a tame lion” as Mr. Tumnus puts it, which I think reflects on the idea that Aslan/God could be cruel and destructive if he wants (think about what he did the White Witch), but mostly, he is kind and gentle and all knowing. Aslan isn’t always there, and he doesn’t step into every single thing in the world of Narnia, he steps away and leaves the Narnians to experience the world themselves. And I see the connection between the idea that the Narnians are hopeless and left behind when Jadis the White Witch rules over Narnia and Aslan hadn’t come to save them. But, according to the prophecy of the four children, he wasn’t meant to save them all himself. He still keeps to the sidelines to let the Pevensie children save the world themselves, and he steps in toward the end. (And yes, with the same allegory, he returns and the Narnians faith does as well). But I have always loved Aslan, as a child and even as an adult that has an entirely different set up beliefs than most people I know. I love the allegory of him as a type of God. Because if there had to be a God, I would want it to be Aslan the Lion. I would believe in him completely. Though, I did notice the line that he said to Peter, where there was something even higher than him that controlled their destines and that makes me wonder—if that is a direct quote from Lewis (I’ll have to research that), or just a line from the movie, what does that mean?? Are they talking about the powers of the universe? Are they saying that Aslan isn’t the only higher power in this world? Which to me, makes him even more complicated and interesting, to have him mention something like that. And my god, he sacrificed himself for Edmund, do we realize that? I hated that scene in theaters and I still hate it now, watching the humiliation he’s put through, the absolute fear in his eyes, even if he knew what would happen. It makes him feel less like God, and almost human. Because though he knows he’ll come back—he’s scared. He doesn’t want to die at all, he doesn’t want to experience that. And to me, that was when I had loved him even more. Because he has feelings, he responds to fear and danger, but he still has the belief that everything will be okay. I could easily write a whole essay about Aslan, but I’ll leave it at that for now. I just love Aslan so much.
Everything about this movie feeds me joy into my soul. The story itself, the magic, the love of the siblings, the battles, the comfort of knowing that something like Aslan can protect a whole world. The movie had created a whole world for all of us to see, and I thought it was beautiful then and I think it’s still just as magnificent now. It’s a movie that taught me something as a child and as an adult and keeps hope and belief and magic in my heart. Can’t you tell at this point? I could gush and talk about this movie for hours, maybe even days, so I can’t go into every single detail—but maybe I’ll mention some things I’ll reference on my blog in the future.
But I can say, this film opened my whole world. I can remember that whole time frame after I saw it, how much I loved it, how it made me feel so strong and magical myself. I even have a jewelry box that is an exact replica (though small) of the wardrobe, and some other cool prop stuff. I cried when I watched the Disney+ episode of props from their movies and it was William, Anna and Georgie seeing their costumes and props (I’m not kidding, I sobbed like a child). I still look into wardrobes just in case whenever I stay somewhere. It showed me that though I was considered a freak at my school, I didn’t care. I still believed in myself and the magic. I think this movie (along with Alice in Wonderland, to be honest, since I loved that one before this, so it was influential there too), is the reason I don’t care what people think of me, for the most part. I just do my own thing, I can be alone, I believe my own stuff. Of course, things get to me and everyone cares about what people think of them, but for the most part, I’m comfortable with who I am and I always will be myself. And I can thank this movie for that.
Whenever I watch this movie, I feel like I’m home.

The Gentle Lady - Kingsman & The Chronicles of Narnia Crossover.
Summary:  Susan Pevensie was left behind. At least that's how she felt for many years. But she rebuilt her life, she worked for a better world. But she wasn't forgotten, she stayed for a reason. But this reason is not on her time, it's on the future. She needs to travel there and meet the Kingsman. She needs to save this world, before she can meet her siblings once again.
***
Notes: This work is complete and can be found here. It’s my first big crossover, since it involved not only Kingsman and The Chronicles of Narnia (as the main parts) but also made mentions of the MCU and Forever (TV series).

The Calling
London, 1956
She had that feeling for a couple of weeks now. The feeling that He was there. All the time. Sometimes she would turn very quickly and see a flash of gold disappearing on a corner. Sometimes she would catch a shadow looming over her or a glimpse of His reflection on a window.
She knew she was going crazy. She was just shocked it had taken this long to happen.
He never talked to her on these visions, for which she was happy, she knew she wasn’t strong enough to hear His voice and not break down.
Then, one day, it all changed.
She had just gotten back to her flat after a very tiring day. Her ribs were sore and her dress –a brand new one at that – had a tear that couldn’t be fixed. To make it better she had a meeting tomorrow, very early.
Susan sat on her dressing table and sighed, asking for strength. She couldn’t lose her mind. Not yet. Straightening her back she took her earrings off and got a tissue to remove her lipstick. When she raised her eyes for the mirror she saw Him there, looking right back at her, as if standing just behind her.
She didn’t move a muscle, afraid that if she did, He would disappear. “I guess I really am going crazy.” She whispered with a self-derogatory smile.
“You are not going crazy, my Gentle Queen. I am sorry if I made you think so.” He said gently and warmly.
Her lips got rounded in their shock and her eyes filled with tears. “Aslan?”
“Yes, my Queen.” The Great Lion smiled “How have I missed you.”
She covered her mouth with her hands and squeezed her eyes, trying hard to believe, to keep talking “How is this even possible?”
“I know you think I have forsaken you, and I am truly sorry that I left you hurting alone, without an ounce of comfort.” He replied sadly “But nothing could be farther from the truth. Narnia will always be your home and you will always be my Gentle Queen.”
“Then why?” She had to know.
“You are needed here.” He said calmly “There are things that you were made to do here, just like your siblings did things for Narnia. Your mission in this place is not over.”
“I understand” She replied, and she did. Her work had become her guide. She knew she was making a difference.
“But you are not needed right here, right now.”
“I don’t understand.” She looked confused.
“There is a place you have to be. Not here, but in a future not that far away. They need you there more than they need you here.” Aslan explained “Will you help them?”
“I will.” She promised “When will I leave?”
How could a Lion smile? Because Aslan always did, very gently, very warmly. “Now.”
Susan closed her eyes when she felt the light surrounding her and welcomed the change.
Poor Alfred. He would be desolate.

narnia analysis
so i’m just gathering here all of the analysis i’ve read about narnia so far?? I think it’s pretty cool ngl
a note: i’m not going to hecking mention the v obvious and already explained christian allegory with aslan being jesus and edmund representing humanity and the witch being satan and all that jazz.
DISCLAIMER: absolutely none of this belongs to me except for the odd bit of prose in the edmund section
first up, names! credit for this goes to @thoughtfox72 (you can find the original post here)
- peter means rock, which ties in well as he’s the “rock” of the family. It’s also a reference to good ol’ st. peter- in matthew 16:18 (the bible), peter is called “the rock upon which my church was founded”.
- edmund means protector, which again ties in well with his actions against the witch, but it also ties into shakespeare’s king lear. in king lear, edmund is the bastard son of the duke of glouchester, who betrays his entire family to gain power. sound familiar? yeah, i thought so too. shakespeare’s edmund is never redeemed, however, but it is a direct parallel to narnia’s edmund.
- lucy means light, and it’s pretty obvious that she’s the light of her family, illuminating the path to aslan.
- susan, however, means lily and it’s pretty hard to figure out why that’s so important. like yeah, lilies are typically used at funerals (which, um, pretty dark bit of foreshadowing there, mr. lewis) but like?? compared to the others, that doesn’t seem deep enough. and that’s when you realise- at the end of vodt, what does the dawn treader have to sail past to get to aslan’s country? a sea. of. hecking. lilies.
- and so the flower that susan is named for is the ones that grow on the path to aslan’s country, which is a pretty strong hint about her eventually returning to aslan’s country.
- also, if you look at the points of the compass, aslan’s country (and therefore the sea of lilies) are in the east. it’s implied that susan beginning to forget narnia started when she went to america (heading west). this is really paying a lot of attention to direction, which brings me to my next point…
direction, and points of the compass! credit for this goes partly to @thoughtfox72 (because of the above point) but mostly to @elecktrum , from the most noble order of the table from the sword and shield, jewel and song series.
- so as was stated above, susan’s journey away from aslan’s starts with her going west, but the flowers that she’s named for are in the east, near aslan’s country, thus signifying that she will probably return.
- as well as that, aslan gives edmund and peter the west and north (“to the great western woods, king edmund the just” and “and to the clear northern sky, i give you king peter the magnificent”), respectively, while susan and lucy receive the south and east (“to the radiant southern sun, queen susan the gentle” and “to the glistening eastern sea, i give you queen lucy the valiant”).
- edmund and peter have the directions of their enemies (to the north are the wild lands of the north, where the giants live, and to the west are the western wilds and telmar).
- susan and lucy get narnia’s “allies” and protection (i put allies in quotation marks as calormen isn’t really an ally, but it isn’t quite an enemy either)- archenland, calormen and the eastern sea.
- this highlights that the brothers are the ones who protect, and the sisters gather allies and friends (a teensy bit sexist, don’t you think?).
there’s also a bit of character analysis!
i’ll start with Peter (credit for this goes to @thoughtfox72 ) (post found here)
- so like loads of people have said that peter is boring, because he doesn’t have complexity, and the heart of this boils down to the fact that c.s. lewis keeps us at a distance from peter. we don’t get to see what he thinks or feels, whereas we do with the younger siblings.
- also, and this is connected to the point above, peter seemingly rushes into things without any warning (e.g. the duel with miraz, pc book canon). but honestly, it’s not that he rushes into things, it’s that we don’t see his reasons for doing it. an example of this is in the prince caspian book- peter is the only one to realise that they’re in cair paravel and he actually numbers his goddamn reasons, like it’s a slideshow or something. this, of course, tells us that he’s been thinking about it for a while, but just hasn’t chosen to share it. peter keeps things close to his chest.
- peter doesn’t share things that much- this even shows in his title. valiant, gentle- heck, even just are quite descriptive and specific. magnificent, on the other hand is like “??? what does it mean?" this is done on purpose, as it’s an effective way to maintain awe. he’ll always meet an individual’s sense of what a great king should be because he’s left to the imagination. “High King Peter the Magnificent is more an idea than a person, like King Arthur.”
- but peter is a person. he’s a good king, but still a person. examples: when they have to vote on which way to go (book pc), he doesn’t want to vote until trumpkin says that it’s his duty. basically the first thing he says to caspian (again, book) is “i haven’t come to take your place, you know, but to put you in it”. though he’s the one in charge, it’s his duty, not something he seeks.
- this is also shown during acts of violence. think about it- most of peter’s most famous acts (save the last battle) are to do with violence- killing the wolf, fighting the witch, duelling with miraz. this all emotionally affects him- he cries after killing maugrim, it’s shown that he’s pale and drawn after fighting the witch... i could go on. although he’s good at this stuff, he doesn’t like it- it’s not easy for him. this ties in well with the whole series’ idea of kingship- “For this is what it means to be a king: to be first in every desperate attack, and last in every desperate retreat.”- and c.s. lewis knew this. lewis had fought in the war and knew how bad it got, but he had peter do it anyway, because he’s the high king, and the hardest tasks fall to him. this, matched with peter liking to keep things to himself, is a lonely task.
- as well as that, it’s more than likely that peter would’ve served in the war back in england as well- the timelines do match up.
- and peter has a super strong sense of duty and responsibility as well- why, at the end of prince caspian (book. again.), he tells aslan that he was leading them wrong, even though he was being pulled in opposite directions by both his sisters. he’s trying to take everything that’s wrong onto himself, including his siblings’ faults.
- tldr; peter is good at being a king but that doesn’t mean he has to like it. he’s a good warrior and a good person but he’s been given really hard tasks and he’s trying to keep it together. he only looks perfect and boring on the surface because he’s not very open and is kept at a distance from the reader. his job is lonely, because he’s high king and that’s what it means.
okay. peter’s done. hopefully that make sense.
onto the problem of susan (credit for this goes to @ncfan-1 ) (find the original post here)
- to start off, here’s a reference:
“Sir,” said Tirian, when he had greeted all these. “If I have read the chronicles aright, there should be another. Has not your Majesty two sisters? Where is Queen Susan?”
“My sister Susan,” answered Peter shortly and gravely, “is no longer a friend of Narnia.”
“Yes,” said Eustace, “and whenever you’ve tried to get her to come and talk about Narnia or do anything about Narnia, she says ‘What wonderful memories you have! Fancy you still thinking about all those funny games we used to play when we were children.’ ”
“Oh Susan!” said Jill. “She’s interested in nothing nowadays except nylons and lipstick and invitations. She always was a jolly sight too keen on being grow-up.”
“Grown-up, indeed,” said the Lady Polly. “I wish she would grow up. She wasted all her school time wanting to be the age she is now, and she’ll waste all the rest of her life trying to stay that age. Her whole idea is to race on to the silliest time of one’s life as quick as she can and then stop there as long as she can.”
“Well, don’t let’s talk about that now,” said Peter. “Look! Here are lovely fruit trees. Let us taste them.”
–The Last Battle, page 135
- please notice who speaks. tirian asks, peter gives a very tense, very abbreviated explanation (which probably means he doesn’t intend to take it further than that). however, eustace, polly and jill jump in and defame her to tirian, despite the fact that what she’s been doing on earth is very clearly none of their business. lucy, edmund and digory don’t speak at all.
- i’d like to point out that the four people who knew her best contributed nothing to her defamation, and that three of them are pointedly silent.
- now, onto the three that did talk.
- how well did they know susan? there’s no canon evidence (book, movie, or otherwise) that any of them interacted with her.
- eustace was susan’s cousin, yes, but up until vodt she thought he was an annoying brat and we only know that he made friends with edmund and lucy- it’s not sure if he made friends with the rest of the pevensies as well.
- polly was digory’s friend, but we don’t know when she was introduced to the pevensies- if it was before susan “forgot” narnia, or after. it was possibly and probably after, given that there was no mention of her at all pre-prince caspian (save the magician’s nephew, but that’s not the point)
- and we know for a fact that jill and eustace didn’t meet until a few years after pc. we don’t even know if susan and jill ever met, or if jill just knew of her.
- so there are a few questions raised. how well did eustace, polly and jill know susan? were any of them even close to her? how reliable a judge are they?
- well, eustace, jill and polly are shown to be the kind of people who, when they know that susan has received the new that they’re dead and is being asked to identify their bodies, instead of expressing sympathy for her (she has to bury them, bury them, and they can’t even express sympathy? talk about heartless), they just talk about how silly and vain she is- so no, they’re probably not the best judges of susan pevensie.
- what this tells us is that none of the three were really interested in knowing susan. none of them really wanted to get to know her side of the story. if they treat her like that when she isn’t even around to defend herself, imagine what they were like to her in person! small wonder that susan pevensie didn’t confide in them.
- let’s look at the other four, the four who knew her best. her siblings and digory, who would have known her better. while none of them express sympathy for her (seriously, guys? not good), none of them gossip about her either. as mentioned above, peter gives a short explanation that is obviously meant to wrap it up and also cuts off the three gossips. also mentioned above is that the other three who knew her best say nothing. absolutely nothing.
- that might suggest they agree with the others, or, perhaps more likely, that there was a lot more going on with susan that eustace, polly and jill didn’t know about.
- there’s a continuation of this, as well. everything pre-the last battle suggests that when aslan sent them back to earth for good, he wanted them to live their lives there. we’re not completely sure what aslan said to susan and peter at the end of prince caspian, but it’s probably somewhat similar to what he said to edmund and lucy (vodt):
“Dearest, said Aslan very gently, “you and your brother will never come back to Narnia.”
“Oh, Aslan!” said Edmund and Lucy both together in despairing voices.
“You are too old, children,” said Aslan, “and you must begin to come close to your own world now.”
“It isn’t Narnia, you know,” sobbed Lucy. “It’s you. We shan’t meet you there. And how can we live, never meeting you?”
“But you shall meet me, dear one,” said Aslan.
“Are—are you there too, Sir?” said Edmund.
“I am,” said Aslan. “But there I have another name. You must learn to know me by that name. This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.”
–Voyage of the Dawn Treader, pages 215-216
- everyone who was brought to narnia, and then sent back, had a super specific purpose. aslan wanted them to live on earth, and find meaning in their lives there. he wanted them to look for him there.
- we don’t know if susan tried to look for aslan on earth. we only have eustace, jill and polly’s word for that, and as stated above, they are unreliable.
- susan did live on earth, and she tried to make a life for herself, and she made it her home and “[came] close” to it. she probably missed narnia, despite what she said to the three gossips. but she didn’t spend her life pining after something she could never have.
- aslan told the others to live lives in their own world, and to look for him there. and what did they do? spent the rest of there lives wanting nothing more but to go back to narnia.
- aslan told them to look for him on earth, and they didn’t do that. their eyes were focused on another world.
- now aslan was responsible for pulling them back to narnia one last time, but it probably wasn’t meant as a reward. they were pulled back to narnia because they failed. they were brought back because aslan realised that they were never going to do what he wanted them to do, they were never going to look for him there, and so he just “bit the bullet and gave them what they wanted”.
- in the end, it looks less like susan deserted narnia, and more like she was the only one of them who did what aslan wanted her to do.
and edmund! credit goes to @softlyblues , from weeds spring high, and @quecksilvereyes , from Putting the Gentle Queen Back Into Her Own Narrative, A Suggestion In Ten Parts
- this analysis is directed at the viewpoint that “edmund is a traitor and betrayed them all for sweets”, and while that is true (to a certain extent), there are some certain points made (below)
“I’m not a very good person,” Edmund says, looking up at the clouds.
(He’s thirteen at this point.)
“You’re thirteen,” Susan says sensibly. Sensible Susan with her sensible shoes.
Edmund does that snotty breath that young boys are often wont to do when they think they might cry, breathing a whole cloud of stuff in through his nose. “Father Christmas didn’t give me a gift,” he says, all wet and damp. “You got two. Luce got - you know. Peter got Rhindon. I got to be Edmund the Betrayer.”
“You were eleven,” Susan says. Sensibly.
Her brother looks to the sky and she can see how shiny his eyes are. His cheeks have freckled in the summer. “I’m not anymore and I don’t feel any different to how I did then. What if I’m not any better? What if we go back and I do the same thing again?”
But privately, Susan thinks there isn’t much wrong with being cold and trusting a woman who says she will warm you up, who offers you treats to eat and drink and makes sure your fingers won’t freeze of frostbite. Susan thinks there isn’t much wrong with being eleven and upset that you’ve been sent away from your home, away from your parents. Not much wrong with being eleven and wondering if you’ll still have a house left to come back to.
Aslan used to be someone you couldn’t help but disappoint.

VII. Perhaps then, finally, I can look at the lion and tell it what I think of its inaction in the face of genocide, its inaction in the face of its people starving and dying away. Maybe then I can tell it that a nine year old boy who misses his parents like the food he’s starving for, who hasn’t had sweets in a year didn’t deserve to be called a traitor because he was upset and hurt and a Witch spelled him.
–Putting the Gentle Queen Back Into Her Own Narrative, A Suggestion In Ten Parts, by Quecksilver_Eyes on ao3
- i’m not sure i even have to say much after those two excerpts, but i will say this
-imagine this. you’re lonely. you’re tired. you’ve been sent away from your parents, and you miss them you miss them you miss them. you’re surviving on war rations. you’re criticized by your siblings. when you enter this new world, you’re all alone. you’re cold. your sister, who went in with you, is gone. you’ve been left alone. again.
- and then, a woman. a kind, gentle, beautiful woman. she gives you food to eat and a warm drink. you’re warm. finally. you haven’t had anything this nice to eat since before the war. you barely remember that.
- in the end, it all comes down to this: you’re cold and hungry and tired and you miss your parents so much it hurts and there’s a kind woman who offers you food and drink and warmth and love, and so of course you accept, because what else would you do?
on numbers (credit to @nothinggold13 ) (post found here):
- in the bible, the number 7 means completion. this has direct parallels in the bible and narnia: 7 churches, 7 lampstands (bible) and in narnia, 7 books (although out of world rather than in-world) and the 7 friends of narnia. and so 7 is completion.
- but that leads you to think- what about susan?
- with susan, the 7 friends of narnia would have become 8.
- and do you know what the number 8 means in the bible? do you?
- new beginnings. resurrection. regeneration. new life.
- susan is the 8th. there is a hope and a plan for her.
- “Yes, the Seven stand in completion, but after the end, God makes all things new.”
that's all, folks! will update if i spot any more analysis!

Congrats on your 100 followers!!! 💞💞💞 Thank you for being here, for fangirling over Jesse and Lucie with me! You brighten my day every time I see your messages!! 🤗💕 Those 100 have made the right choice by following you!! Sooo... 1 about Cordelia, 4, and 6 about Jesse!! Something about me... I love watching rhythmic gymnastics and it is one of the leading sports in my country!! 😊
excuse me ma’am have i ever talked of how brilliant you are and everything that you do? when you first followed me i lost my shit because oH my GOD look who- yeah, safe to say, I was really excited and surprised. Man, talking about Jesse and Lucie is like the best thing ever but more than that, I’m glad that I got to know a little more about you as a person than just a tumblr user I adore. (idk about the right choice but ehh, we’ll see).
1. Oh my god. I loVED Cordelia all the while reading Chain of Gold. She’s so wonderful and we all see parts of ourselves in her? She’s not self sufficient but she always strives to be better? The one moment that I fell absolutely in love with her was when she goes to confess to Alastair that she had been eavesdropping on him and Charles and she says, and I quote:
I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to overhear such things. I only wanted to tell you I loved you just the same. It makes no difference to me.
Because honestly, these words mean the world to a struggling person. And I can only imagine the effect they have on Alastair because the next time we see him, he’s fiercely protective of Layla, a side of him which he haven’t seen until then. It just shows the sort of power that words and especially words that mean acceptance can come a long, long way.
I think many people already knew at the beginning of the book that the boy Lucie met in the forest was Jesse but I hadn’t known that at all. Possibly because I only started reading the rest of tsc i.e. TID, TFTSA, TDA and GOTSM since March. So I was clueless for a bit there.
Here’s a bonus to you though: Much, much before I even started reading Lady Midnight, the moment I met Kit, I knew he was Herondale. Why? Did I have a metal detector thing that spots Herondales? No. Because I... wait for it... spoiled myself. Hell yeah, spoiler nation to the victory. But I spoiled myself way back in 2018 itself so idk it must’ve stayed at the back of my mind until it decided to randomly torment just as I began reading.
6. Jesse [aah, there’s SO many!]
When Tatiana would go around on her voodoo, black magic errands, Jesse would play the piano for Grace and it would be the only time when he would get to see his sister truly be the little child she was. I also have this strange headcanon that Grace is an excellent singer and that when her brother plays the piano, she sings the shadowhunters’ lullaby that her biological mother sang to her as a child. As she sang, Jesse would play the tune to match the piano because he has heard it being sung to other shadowhunter kids in Idris. In retrospect, it’s kinda sad, but what can be said? The two of them really did live strange and nearly awful lives.
Jesse is a profound animal lover! He loves ALL animals and as a ghost while he wandered around the Brocelind Forest, he befriended almost many of them. And this kinda ties up well with the fact that Ty (who is said to be the most resembling to Jesse, what with his slender build and features and black hair) also loves animals so much, but the key difference is that Ty while loves the eccentric and rarest of them, Jesse quite likes all of them though there is a line that he draws where he carefully handles a little more dangerous animals.
He once tried to fix the garden that made a clearing behind the Chiswick House (near the river next to the trees) and decided to build a birdhouse but due to his sickness, he never was actually able to. but he’ll fix it with Lucie. it will become abandoned after a few years and then it will collapse due to lack of proper care.
Jesse loves the space and he enjoys stargazing. (:
Jesse is a manageable, perhaps a nearly good cook and because I doubt Tatiana ever fed him well he sometimes made his sister’s favourite treats that he otherwise wouldn’t when his mother was around.
Listen up you lovely person, I am SO GLAD I MET YOU and yess it’s an understatement when I say you’re awesome. :’) and i’ll keep repeating that until the end of eternity and your love for star wars is unmatchable. <33
(also, shit, this is awkward, i totally forgot to do 4. here you go: it’s a collection from december 2019 when i was reading a few books from the chronicles of narnia;
“Grown-ups are always thinking of uninteresting explanations!” said Digory.
Aunt Letty was a very tough old lady; aunts often were in those days.
Laugh and fear not, creatures. Now that you are no longer dumb and witless, you need not always be grave. For jokes as well as justice come in with speech.
Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.
“...There is no pool now. The world is ended, as if it had never been. Let the race of Adam and Eve take warning.” // “Yes Aslan,” said both the children. But Polly added, “But we’re not quite as bad as that world, are we, Aslan?” // “Not yet, Daughter of Eve.”

thanks for asking, matey. :”)
Also, Photographic evidence of me spoiling myself lol circa 2020 March 31st: (such a mood no? FML).

Hey, I want to be part of the Narnia game if it isn't too much of a bother
I'm a straight male with short curly red hair, I have light brown eyes almost golden I am full of freckles. I am 6' tall, a gryffindor/ravenclaw.
I have an almost Deadpool like humor, im very protective over my friends and the last person to back down from a fight, if it ever gets to kne usually it doesn't. I always (involuntarily) have a RBF everytime I enter a room so people that don't know me tend to think I'm mean or extremely serious. I'm already leader, always have been president of any organization I join
I actually am a little serious and I suck at opening up to people j prefer to let my feeling drown inside of me. Only people that really know me would be able to get me to open up.
I'm a very passionate stubborn person, who loves to argue with people just for the thrill of it.
I think around the prince Caspian movie would be great for me to come in if its ok.
I'm want the wife thing you mentioned the topic well, surprise me
I'd also prefer if the race was human,
If you need more info don't be afraid to message me
If you can do this thank you very much, I actually have been following you for a while now and have made a few asks before, I absolutely love your work and hope you keep doing what you are doing because honestly it blows my mind everytume I read something of yours
Heya ! Nope it doesn't bother me at all ! Yep I remember the marvel ship , it was the one of those last ships I did before the celebration ! I'm glad you love my work and HAHA, thank you for telling me that I blow your mind lol lol ! Hmm, the info is enough , I'll pick some points from the previous ship request because I remember I shipped you with Nat :)
This is the info that I'm taking additionally , if you don't mind . But if you do , dm me/send in an ask , I'll change it as per your request :)

How you enter the magical world of Narnia
You were returning back from a fight which was about to get physical , the road was empty except for the trees in the side. You were too stubborn to budge and the man was too egoistic to agree with his mistake . Kicking the stone casually , you kept walking until you heard a hustle in the nearby tree . Your doubts instantly told you that it could be that crazy man and so , you decided to approach the source of the noise . As soon as you stepped in , the ground wasn't present to support your feet . Falling down vigorously , you landed on a rather soft ground . A beach , to be precise . Narnia , to summarise it .
The weapon you yielded
Sword . It matches you so much . A sword will never give up until it breaks or looses it's sharpness . The sword is brave and reckless , faces the challenge head on and on a short range . You'd often learn/challenge swordfighting from/to Peter and Edmund (more often Edmund) .
Your wife
I ship you with Lucy . Do I have any doubts ? No . Not one . I thought of susan but you both wouldn't hit off . You need a girl who's strong and brave but underestimated very often . Lucy will not judge you , she's the sweetest human I've ever come across in any fandom and will stand up against anyone for you .
The Era/Movie you enter Narnia
The Chronicles Of Narnia : Prince Caspian
What the Narnians think about you
To be honest , most of them are proud to have a warrior like you . They love you and are inspired by your tough exterior . They think of you as the rock which never breaks and always stands it's ground and is serious. The army of Narnia are given your example to be trained and getting trained by you personally is a sheer blessing . They think you're one of the great warriors whom Aslan's sent for their protection . You're a household name .
What the Pevensie siblings think about you
Peter Pevensie : Facing this bery clearly , he hated you in the beginning . You both are stubborn as hell , so clashes are pretty common . Especially since you're entering the second movie , damn . He'll use his sword on you for real , trying to kill you since you were with Caspian . Also , you would side with Lucy and he'd hate it since he wants everyone to agree with him and wants you to stay away from his sister . Still , after everything , it's not that he likes you too much . But he's okay with you , mostly because of his sister (don't worry this is just a cover up , he likes you and is okay with you)
Susan Pevensie : She . Is . A . Fan . Of . Yours . Definitely , arguing needs a thing called brain and Susan likes and appreciates people who have it . She'll often try to learn your arguing tactics and stuff , but she'll love you as a brother too . She'll often disapprove your stubbornness but would still like how you stand your ground . She'll give you wise advices .
Edmund Pevensie : He'll be cold with you in the beginning . Very cold . He'll be protective of Lucy and would want to make sure that you won't hurt his sister . Ofcourse , once he comes to know the softie you are , he'll warm up with you and then , I'll just give a warning of teasing . You both would tease the hell out of Lucy and others . You both are going to be like bestfriends , sometimes making lucy think you both were long lost brothers . You both would often have swordfighting competition and you both would tie , always .
Lucy Pevensie : I was waiting for this one . She would never judge you and often feel a sense of likeness towards you . She wouldn't know why , but she'll always be there for you anytime you need someone . Out of all the siblings , lucy was the first one to get you open up . She will instantly see your soft heart and tough exterior thing and would always talk nicely with you . She'll even drop hints of tips that you might've needed at the moment . She'll love you all the way to the moon and back . Often , she'll blush when your name will be spoken in front of her and would get lost in your thoughts .
What Caspian thinks about you
He literally loves your company as a friend . Whenever he'll hear you coming , he'll find some free time in his busy schedule to spend time with you . He really respects you and will always be there for you when you wanna vent or anything. He'll also really like your never-give-up thingy and would appreciate you for that . Swordfighting would be a fun activity you both do together .
You'd land in Narnia , the beach to be precise and explore the ruins of the magnificent castle . Walking around aimlessly , you'll meet Caspian the X and will unite with him . He'll teach you a bit swordfighting but by Aslan's grace , you'll have a natural talent and will learn most of the things(from the experienced Centaurs) in very short span of time . You'll be a great support to Caspian , who'll trust you and assign you with the Army . You'll lead the Army bravely until you see a girl peaking through the bushes (lucy is a bit older , canon) . You'll point your sword at her but not hurt her . Her brother , Peter , will begin a fight with you , causing Caspian and later , Edmund to interfere in it . You all would stop as soon as the same girl shouts to . Later , you'll come to know the beautiful girl's name was lucy . Now , from walking to the how and Lucy asking you to be safe in the first war to half-leading(because Peter took the half) the Army , you were now bidding a goodbye to Lucy Pevensie , the love of your life. She had been your support system (emotionally and mentally) , so you knew you were going to miss her . But , you were worried that she'd forget you . Skipping to three years later , you reunited with Lucy and Edmund , who were now older . Lucy looked more beautiful and you realised that in the past time your feelings had simply grew . But so had your skills . You were Narnia's best swordsman . Beating Edmund . Finally , from traveling to the lone islands to fighting your worst fear and saving people , you were at the entrance of Aslan's country when Aslan permitted either lucy to go with you in your time , or you to go with lucy in her time . I'll leave it upon you to choose .. but whichever you did , you and lucy lived happily ever after
Your post
Prince Caspian - You'll lead the Army
Voyage of the Dawn Treader - Head of the Narnian Army (even the King is under you in case of wars )
I hope you liked it !
Thank you for participating !

Ok, so I was rewatching the first Chronicles of Narnia movie the other night and, because I’m a pervert, I had a thought. In the last few minutes of the movie, we flash forward to when Penvensies are aged somewhere between 20-30 (for argument’s sake I’m going to say that they’ve spent 20 years in Narnia). And being in that age range myself, I came to a startling headcannon: the Penvensies have all had sex with each other.
Now, before everyone loses it on me for being so perverse about a beloved children’s story, let me explain and defend myself. First, this is going strictly off the movie; so if things differ in the book, I apologize as I’ve yet to read the Narnia series. Second, yes I realize that this a kinky headcannon to adopt, but as I said, I’m a pervert, and this is the internet, and I don’t need to explain myself to anyone. Thirdly, if someone’s already said this, I apologize for repeating your thread/points but I’m too lazy and too new to Tumblr to look for it.
So here's how it all plays out. As the oldest, Peter is the first to lose his virginity a couple years after defeating the White Witch to a mermaid in a hidden cave beneath the castle. He returns every so often until he's caught by Lucy one night as she sneaks away for an evening with Mr. Tumnus (more on that later). Peter awkwardly explains himself, but Lucy says that she's happy so long as he and the mermaid are both happy. Next is Susan who, after a long journey to some remote part of Narnia, becomes overcome by her hormones and practically attacks Oreius (the lead centaur). Both are embarrassed the next day and are thankful it's just the two of them on this trip, although they're to awkward to talk for the rest of the journey. This happens around the same time that Lucy catches Peter, and Edmund is just left wondering why everyone is always flushed with embarrassment for the next few months. Next is Lucy, who on her eighteenth birthday, declares her love to Mr. Tumnus in secret during the party that the others are throwing for her. As they've been dating since the beginning in all but name, Mr. T says he loves Lucy too and the two retire to her chambers to consummate their love. Last is Edmund, and this is where thinks get perverse/kinky. During a celebration (let's say it's the tenth anniversary of the White Witch's defeat and about halfway through their time in Narnia), the four get very drunk in the revelry. But while Lucy and Peter pass out in the equivalent of like 12:30-1 am, Susan and Edmund stay up and end up playing a sloppy version of Truth or Dare (which is really just them taking swigs from the bottles they're holding and confessing things to each other). Eventually Edmund confesses to missing their parents and how much like their mother he thinks Susan looks. Having always thought her mother was very pretty, Susan tries to thank Edmund for the compliment with a kiss to his cheek, but is too drunk and ends up kissing his mouth instead. There's a lot of screaming the next morning as the middle siblings find themselves in bed together, with clear evidence that yes they did have sex.
This is when the pact is made. After calming down enough to call their siblings to a closed door meeting (they long ago agreed that no secrets was a policy to live and rule by), Susan and Edmund explain. It's in this meeting that everyone comes clean about their past exploits, and even though it takes all day and much of the night, they come to an agreement: that even though they know that it's wrong, since they're the only humans in Narnia, should the need to relieve themselves arise, they can go to any of the other three and ask for help and NOBODY EVER FINDS OUT. They also agree that to decrease the chances of that happening, they should take on lovers from the native population, and that they can't judge each other's choices in paramours.
This arrangement lasts for about a year or so, before another reason to celebrate rolls around (let's say Aslan is back). And like the year before, the kings and queens get a little too drunk, and before they know it, another round of Drunk Confessions begins. As the conversation drifts to comparing various paramours prowess and attributes, the siblings become clearly aroused. Surprising everyone (even though it was her idea), Susan drops to her knees in front of Edmund, whips his dick out and stuffs it in her mouth to the root. When she comes up for air she says that she's been fighting the temptation to take him to bed since that night so she could remember what it was like fucking her brother. After a few seconds of sloppy blowjob, Lucy joins her sister in kneeling before Edmund. It's here that they learn that sweet, innocent Lucy isn't that at all: as she starts to talk dirty and encouraging her sister to suck Edmund dry as she also fondles Susan tits and pulls them out of her dress while also teasing Edmund about blowing his load all over Susan's titties. It's at this point that Peter pulls down his pants and Lucy's dress up and rams his aching cock into her tight pussy, causing her to squeal in delight. Seeing their siblings fucking, Susan decides to hop on Edmund as the siblings fuck each other to sleep.
The next morning, they all acknowledge last night was great and that they should try it again when they're sober for once. So they do, and they have an orgy between the four of them. Every combo you can think of happens: S/E, S/P, S/L, S/E/P, P/S/L, L/E, L/P, L/P/E, E/L/S, E/P. Favourite positions are tried with each partner, everyone gets ass  and face fucked, and kinks are explored (Susan wants to be dominated, Edmund is all about the incest angle, Lucy is just a slut up for anything, and Peter just really loves anal). This continues for the rest of their reign, and while full family orgies happen once or twice a month, there doesn't seem to be a night where one sibling is sleeping with another or two. They also keep up their extra-familial relationships, each having a native Narnian or two that the can call upon if they ever wish to have some more beastly sex. Lucy is the first to combine the two when she invites Susan to join her and Mr. Tumnus on her (Lucy's) next birthday. After that, they all start having threesomes with a sibling and a Narnian, making sure that everyone is sworn to secrecy by pain of death if they ever tell anyone.
Finally, we come to the end of their rule, as they chase a white deer through the woods. It's only after falling back into the real world and their child selves that they realize that they can never be with each other again. No one likes this decision, but they all agree that it's for the best; the original pact was made because they were the only humans around, and now there in a world full of them. But even as they all agree, they all secretly hope that they find an opportunity to in the future to relive the last ten years

I’m sort of doing this thing where I’m reading books and keeping a log of it, and if there’s a movie adaptation I try to watch it before moving on to the next book in the series. So I’ve been meaning to get to Prince Caspian for a while now after reading the book.
This one’s weird because a large chunk of the Chronicles of Narnia fandom doesn’t like this movie very much. And I pretty much loved it since I saw it in theaters? It’s not as faithful to the book as the previous film, but that doesn’t make it bad. I’m still struck by the design of the film, which stands out from most fantasy films of the time (and many today), and it’s got a lot of action! That’s enough to make me dig a fantasy movie.
_Prince Caspian_ is the second installment of Walden Media’s Chronicles of Narnia film series and the sequel to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. It’s also the last film in the series that was made by Disney, as they quit because they were disappointed by this one’s reception. Walden Media managed to get another studio to fund and distribute the third movie.
After a year in England, the Pevensies come back to Narnia to find that over a thousand years have passed. The country’s been conquered by the Telmarines who have driven the Narnia creatures into hiding, thinking they’d been wiped out. The Telmarine prince, Caspian X, is sympathetic to Narnians but didn’t know they still existed--that is, until he has to run from the palace and lead them in rebellion against his uncle who wants him dead to take the throne. The Pevensies are there to help of course, but Peter butts heads with Caspian (and his siblings) on how to best fight this war. And Aslan’s nowhere to be seen, except by Lucy, who can’t convince the others to follow that lead.
This movie does actually have a lot of content from the book, just rearranged or recontextualized. The Plot is completely reworked and I don’t mind that because a huge chunk of Caspian’s story in the book is being told to the Pevensies by Trumpkin--that would be a very frustrating way to tell his story in the movie. Some things, like the animals holding faith for Aslan when others don’t, is implied by the way scenes are done rather than outright told to the audience.
There are some things that are in both the book and movie, but the movie doesn’t quite explain what that’s about. The sparring match between Edmund and Trumpkin doesn’t really make much sense in the movie.
There’s also the attack on the castle. This sequence is invented entirely for the movie, and while it’s frustrating in a similar way that Finn and Rose’s subplot in The Last Jedi is, the book does mention the Narnians losing some battles and so actually showing that to the audience is fine. Also I like seeing the way they apply griffins and mice in the raid. That’s cool thinking and I wish to see more fantasy films think about how fantasy creatures might be used on military operations.
Also I really like the design of this movie? The Narnian side mostly keeps the same designs for their weapons and armor, but it’s a lot more worn down, and that makes sense because they’ve been hiding in the woods for a few hundred years. They don’t have new weapons. The Telmarines, on the other hand, look fantastic. For their culture, WETA Workshop was inspired by Spanish and Italian culture, so instead of longswords they use side swords and falchions, and their armor brings to mind a combination of Spanish conquistadors, Italian condottieri, and Japanese samurai. They look more Renaissance than medieval and I love it.
The cast is also matched up to that, with Spanish and Italian actors playing the roles of Telmarines. Ben Barnes is an exception, as he’s English, but he’s putting on his best Inigo Montoya impression as Caspian.
You know what? Let’s talk about this cast. Ben Barnes, back when he wasn’t just playing villains. I remember classmates in high school saying that he’s too old, but if he is that’s because the actor playing Peter is also too old. Caspian is supposed to be the same age as Peter, so I didn’t mind it here. I think he overdoes the whole “YOU KILLED MY FATHER” thing but I don’t think that’s Ben Barnes’s fault as much as he’s working with the Plot point that’s been sandwiched into the story.
William Moseley does very well in playing Peter as he’s written for this movie, the problem is that Peter in this movie is written to be an absolute prat. His whole arc in this movie is about learning that he doesn’t have to be in charge and to let Aslan take the wheel. This would make sense if his life experience was only what we saw in the last movie’s adventure, but we know that he apparently grew up in Narnia and became a successful and wise warrior king. So him being so full of himself here doesn’t make sense. I got over it, as I see what they were going for, deconstructing how a kid might feel after his time in Narnia, but it is very annoying and it makes Peter very unlikable.
Unlike Edmund, played by Skandar Keyes, who is absolutely THE SHIZ in this movie. Having learned his lesson from the last movie, Edmund is a cheeky wonder child who takes no crap from anyone. He doesn’t have that much of an arc in this movie, but he is great to watch, so I forgive it. He’s the guy who keeps his head screwed on straight when Peter and Caspian need someone to keep them grounded.
Anna Popplewell’s Susan is good? They still go with her being the “reasonable” one, albeit a little less uptight than in the first movie. They have this thing in the movie in which she and Caspian are definitely into each other and I don’t think that’s too out there--in the books Susan had at least half a dozen suitors when she was queen--it does mean that a lot of her character arc is dedicated to that, and we know that it goes nowhere. This one clearly implies that she’s having trouble holding faith in things she doesn’t see in front of her, and that’s a fascinating direction that doesn’t go quite as far in this movie as it could.
And Lucy. Georgie Henley as Lucy is still delightful. They removed and rearranged a lot of the material from the book in her character arc which is a shame, because I really like a lot of that stuff. As the one who still has the faith and wants to see the magic in Narnia when even the Narnians are giving up hope, she has to come across as sympathetic and believable. That doesn’t always work, especially when she does things like walk up to a bear that’s about to attack her, not realizing that it’s not talking (there ARE non-talking animals in Narnia, dear!). But for the most part she works in this movie.
You know Peter Dinklage is in this movie as Trumpkin? I find it odd that he made it big on a fantasy show that was billed as deconstructing usual fantasy tropes while heavily featuring sex and violence when he also starred in the film adaptation of a famously Christian book series and one of the giants of the fantasy genre. He does okay. I mean I like that Trumpkin is this grumpy guy who is cynical and tired of everyone and just wants to go home, but I don’t know if Peter Dinklage is acting or just… cynical and tired of everyone and wants to go home. It’s entertaining sometimes, but not brilliant.
And Warwick Davis is in this movie? He was in the BBC series as well, but instead of as Reepicheep this time he’s playing Nikabrik, the dwarf that is even more cynical than Trumpkin and hates all humans. It feels weird for me seeing him as a villain, though I know he’s done it before. I always had trouble with Nikabrik as a character because I always felt like him going full-on evil was… well, everyone seemed strangely unperturbed by that in the book, even if we had an idea of how we got there. In the movie I felt as if Warwick Davis does well in that you get him, and you get where he’s coming from, but not enough to agree. And other characters react to his turn in a way that’s appropriate.
Ken Stott voices Trufflehunter and he does not have enough to do in this movie. Trufflehunter is not that Plot-relevant in the book, but I always had the impression that he was an important character and one of the most prominent Narnians in the story. He’s okay here, but I really thought that he should be doing more in the story. Maybe the filmmakers didn’t think it would fit the darker tone they were going for, if there was a badger running around in many of the scenes? I don’t know, I wanted more.
We do, however, get quite a bit of Eddie Izzard as Reepicheep, which is fantastic because Reepicheep is fantastic. This mouse is amazing. There were some people very surprised that a mouse is going around killing people, but it’s a fantasy film, he’s a knight, and also it wasn’t as if the first movie didn’t have violence? I’m frustrated that the movies don’t go with the “talking animals are bigger than normal animals” EXCEPT with Reepicheep, because it’s pretty darn weird that all the other animals are ordinary-sized and the talking mice are the size of cats. But Reepicheep is very entertaining, very cool, and he’s great.
Sergio Castellitto plays a surprisingly sharp Miraz? Yeah, Plot-wise he’s generically evil, but I think that Castellitto makes him A) entertaining to watch, and B) convey that he knows that he’s the least popular guy in the room with the other Telmarine lords. The book version of Miraz has no idea that they’re plotting against him. Miraz in this movie does, and although he’s definitely not bright enough to realize exactly what they’re doing, by the end of the movie he knows that they’re happy to watch him die.
Pierfrancesco Pavino’s Glozelle, for instance, is barely a person in the book? He shows up to stab Miraz in the back. Here, not only is he not the person who does that, but the movie makes him very uncomfortable with the direction Miraz’s path to power is taking, despite remaining loyal until almost the very end. He’s a complex, conflicted character and I like him.
And also noticeable is Damian Alcazar as Sopespian, a guy who doesn’t like Miraz, but is no more likable because of it. Because he’s obviously not doing it for any sense of the greater good, he’s doing it because he wants that power for himself. I don’t think anyone mistakes his motives or thinks of him as a secret good guy at any point in the movie, which I think speaks to the actor’s performance.
Liam Neeson is Aslan. He does great, though he really doesn’t have that many lines. Which is part of the point, that he’s not there for most of the movie, so it works, I think.
Also Tilda Swinton’s in this movie. There is some justification for it, but I think it was because she loved being in the first movie, and they loved having her in it, so they just brought her back.
I like fantasy movies with lots of action and sword fights and cool design choices. So no, Prince Caspian isn’t that faithful of an adaptation of the source material (though it’s more faithful than people give it credit for), and I do get frustrated with character arcs--mostly Peter’s. But I still really love this movie, and I have tons of fun every time I watch it.
