the saga of unhinged shadowhunters chronicles posts continues! once again this post is absurdly long so i'm putting it under a cut. let me know your thoughts/other songs that remind you of particular ships cause i'm always down to talk about that!

anyway here’s my two cents on who’s making the cut for these 10 shadowhunter romance stories!! (See Cassandra Clare’s latest announcement about better in black)

tid: idk i feel like this could be a rogue Sophie/gideon or cecily/Gabriel moment. or wessa with jem existing too. who really knows but all of the above i would enjoy <3

tlh: um maybe hopefully plz thomas and Alastair we barely got to see them actually be a couple I feel like so that would be fun. I would also love a luciejesse or herondaisy moment <3

tmi: um well OBVIOUSLY this is what I’m most excited for because i have a normal attatchment to the characters of the mortal instruments. ANYWAY i want sizzys proposal in full detail. we got the clace and the malec ones give them the lovely proposal that i deserve to read. pay them RESPECT. i would also looooove a clace story like any at all. i love and miss them dearly. I would also love a malec story with the kids bc we have literally hardly seen into their family life after they got Rafael but maybe that’s what tec3 is for idk cassandra doesn’t acknowledge its existence. but also if they’ve had two books I’m not exactly sure if she’s writing more about them. DO NOT GET ME WRONG!!! I would loooooove more malec content im not an IDIOT but like idk. but also they’re fan favorites so i just don’t know. im trying to see into cassandra’s mind and it’s not working. i would also actually drop dead to the floor and cease to exist if it was centered around the tmi gang as a whole going on a date night all together triple date moment!!! THATS what i want but i think that’s a bit idk it’s j not gonna happen. unfortunately for me. whatever ill take what i can get and reread the brunch story. I love the brunch story.

tda: well Cassandra’s use of the word throuple makes me assume it’s a safe bet to think one of them will be kierarktina but there’s also the delusional thought that she’s talking about herongraystairs. so idk abt that but yeah kierartina. a Diana and Gwyn moment would also be like somewhat shocking but fun and fresh. idk there’s not that many tda couples tbh. emma and Julian already got their moment in sobh and i don’t wanna read about them so I’m hoping it’s not them. idk

misc: the thing is i feel like this project is very ambiguous bc the theme is just live and romance so it could be anything like people who were never officially couples. unrequited love is fun. kit and ty moment. but also they’re the focus of twp so im just not gonna go there and Cassie may not either. i was also thinking abt this and a malcolm and annabelle story would be reallyyy interesting. also they don’t really fit into one specific series but they’re around in tec,tmi and tda bc they’re awesome i would LOVE a Helen and aline centered story like tell me about their time on wrangel island because we know next to nothing about that seemingly important place and what the hell goes on there. and helen and aline get fuck all in these books. anyway. that’d be a good time. also like. she said there may be some spice . but like i want love confessions and silly goofy character moments and actual stories not just characters going at it yk. so liek what are the vibes here cassandra…

Re-reading tales from the shadowhunter academy and oh my god mark and Kieran!!! But most importantly!! Kieran!!!! My little baby boy i love him so much!!!!!

Like if i could rate all characters i think it would be (and this is a v unpopular ranking i think btw):

1- all the malec family. Including the kids. They all take the first spot.

2- KIERAN MY BABY

3- Jace and Isabelle

4- lily (i just love her shes so fun!! And yet so complex, full of longing and tragedy and yet so much live and fire and a will of iron. So brave. So gay. My beautiful girl).

5- cristina my wild baby

6- mark! (He would be so much more up if i didnt get a little annoyed every time i think on how he manipulated kieran with his love while simultaneously persuing cristina as if kieran didn’t matter. Ik he made up for it, and i adore him, but i will always be a little annoyed at him).

7- emma and julian!!!!!!!!!!!

8- clary and simon!!! (I swear i do love them, they just tend to annoy me more than the rest lmaoo)

9- the other blackthorn kids!!! Altho i feel like once the last series is out Dru and Ty (and ash + kit) will all go up in the rankings tbh.

Everyone else regardless of how i love them doesn’t really call to me. Like these are all characters i would read books based on. Everyone else i wouldn’t read a story solemnly on them so no spot number 10. Maybe Helen and Aline take spot number 10 because i could read a story about them???? But I’m genuinely not too sure i would. I tend to like really angsty characters trying their best and i just feel like Helen and Aline tend to be written as very stable people shhdhn so i’m not too sure i would jump to read a story about them immediately as is out, but i would 100% read it with time.

I might as well also rank my fave ships tho:

1- malec (obviously)

2- KIERARKTINA MY LOVES EVERY DAY I PRAY FOR THEIR HAPPY ENDING

3- Sizzy tbh altho half their written time has been spent with me vocally threatening simon (me talking to the books) whenever he hurts izzy bc thats my baby angel girl

4- jace and clary!!

5- emma and julian!!!!!!! They could honestly go up jace and clary, is just that jace and clary have nostalgia on their side

6- Helen and Aline!!!!!!!

7- Jem and Tessa. I do waver sometimes because (VERY UNPOPULAR OPINION!!!) i didnt like the love triangle with will!!! Those books fill me with anxiety more than enjoyment lmao. I do prefer jem and tessa. I like the peaceful love they have so much more. I like the idea that the one you love gives you serenity and peace over the PASSION!!! ANGST!!! Tropes. BUT I understand the love triangle is complicated, that she loves them both equally but differently (or thats what Cassandra tries to write at the very least, didnt feel like that because she disregarded Jem’s pov but whATEVER). Nonetheless i do really love the jem and tessa dynamic. A love that waited thousands of years but never weakened or hesitated.

Again, i have the suspicion ty and kit will go up a lot in rankings once the books about them are out. I also have my eye on Dru and Jaime, but with the age difference i put a stop. I know the books coming up will have a time skip and Dru will be like 18 or close to it, but i hear people say her love interest might be ash and the idea of that actually calls my attention so much???? So they could potentially go up too. Although mostly I’m excited to see how the time skip changed the kierarktina dynamics (Hopefully they still see each other like montly at the cabin and are very domestic by now. Hopefully someone has given kieran a cat by the time skip). And how the time skip and made the lightwood-bane family grow🥹 (the kids hopefully will have more scenes on their own and with malec).

Merry Christmas to all my wonderful followers or happy December 25th for those who don’t celebrate! My Christmas present to you is twelve shitty holiday headcannons from twelve of my favorite ships in no particular order so enjoy!

1. Sizzy- Their house is just an explosion of different holiday decorations for Hanukkah and Christmas and everyone likes to try to hide small bits from other holidays among the mess that is their house and see how long it takes for them to notice. The record is a tiny pumpkin that they hung from the tree that’s been there for two years now.

2. Malec- Every year Magnus dresses up like Santa for the boys (but with much more glitter) and they adore it. One year, however, Max asks why Magnus is never around to see Santa and Alec and Magnus decide they have to switch roles to keep the magic alive. Magnus has a great time helping Alec get his Santa costume together.

3. Wessa- Will would always get the kids different weapons for Christmas, despite Tessa’s protests that they’re too young. Tessa, on the other hand, buys the kids all her favorite books that she had read at their age and it becomes tradition that the family spends Christmas Day reading one of said books together.

4. Jessa- Christmas Day Tessa and Jem are in their apartment opening gifts from each other when Tessa hands Jem a small box. Inside is a small pacifier. Jem looks up questioningly and Tessa answers, hand over her stomach “It’s for your son, William.” Jem gasps, runs to Tessa and hugs her, tears in his eyes. “I’m going to be a father.”

5. Kitty- Every year Kit gets Ty an ugly Christmas sweater and Ty wears them religiously through the Christmas season. One year Ty decides to return the favor and gets Kit a cat sweater that says “Meowy Christmas”

6. Gwynburn- Diana introduces Gwyn to all of her favorite Christmas traditions, but there is one the Gwyn seems to latch onto more than the others. Soon enough every doorframe in their house was decked with mistletoe and Diana couldn’t even leave the room without being swept off her feet by her handsome faerie hunter.

7. Jemma- Having grown up with such a big family of mostly younger kids, Julian has always taken Santa very seriously. So it’s no surprise that, with their own kids, Julian continues to do so. He eats every cookie the kids set out (even the carrots for the reindeer), he helps them “mail” their letters and then takes them out of the mailbox when they aren’t looking, he even wears a santa costume on the off chance one of them comes downstairs while they’re putting out presents. Emma, of course, finds this all very sweet and she falls in love with him a little more every Christmas.

8. Kierarktina- Mark obviously remembers all the Blackthorn family Christmasses, but Kieran, having lived his life in the Unseelie Court, has never experienced it, so when their first Christmas together comes around, Cristina and Mark promise each other that they will make this Christmas the most amazing Christmas Kieran could ever want. The three of them spend the whole week before baking cookies together, teaching Kieran Christmas carols (they find out he actually has an amazing voice), drinking hot cocoa, and shopping. By the end of it all, on Christmas Eve, Kieran is exhausted. “I fail to see why everyone loves this holiday so much. It seems much more work than play.” At this point Mark and Cristina exchange a look and a subtle nod. “You’re right I’m exhausted why don’t we head to bed?” says Cristina. She leads Kieran to bed as Mark calls after them, “I’ll be in in a minute I still have some cleaning up to do from dinner.” The next morning Kieran comes out to a room full of presents and twinkling lights. The three of them spend the morning and afternoon opening gifts, an activity that rapidly becomes a wrapping paper fight. Kieran decides Christmas might not be so bad after all.

9. Clace- Because their posse has gotten so big, Clary and Jace decided to start a secret Santa within the group. It wasn’t anything huge, but every year they would draw names and give their person all manor of gag gifts throughout the season. One year Jace walked into his room to find it covered in rubber ducks. Furious, he stormed to the training room where everyone was snickering at his firetruck red face.”SIMON” he screamed. “It wasn’t me!!” Simon replied. “Then who—“ he stopped and turned to look at his wife’s smug grin. After that Secret Santa became more of a prank war.

10. Sophideon- One year Gideon decides to take Sophie to the Nutcracker ballet. Having been a servant her entire life, she had never seen anything like it, so when she did she was amazed. It quickly becomes a yearly tradition for them and it is Sophie’s favorite part of the season.

11. CharlottexHenry (not sure if there’s an official ship name for this one?)- Every year Henry makes Charlotte’s gift in his workshop. Sometimes it works out fine and she gets a wonderful new trinket. Sometimes, however, like in the time he tried to make her something of a curling iron, it’s a disaster. Henry of course gets her a beautiful hat to help fix his mistake, but there’s only so much he could do. One year Henry decides that he will not mess this up again. He slaves away in his workshop for days and days until finally her gift is finished. Christmas Day they sit around the tree and Henry gives her his gift. She opens the box and gasps. “It’s a locket,” he says. “If you press this button, it opens to show a picture of our family, but if you press this button,” he took it from her and pressed the other button on the locket. It made a light popping noise and unfolded before Charlotte’s eyes. “It turns into a knife.” Charlotte, of course, adored it and Henry was able to call this Christmas a success.

12. Haline- It was always a white Christmas on Wrangel Island, but Helen never really had that growing up in California, so it hardly put her in a Christmas mood. That’s why every year Aline would contact her mother and get a framed picture of her family sent to the island. The first year she did this Helen cried, and Aline knew that being able to see her siblings grow every year even in this small way meant a lot to her.

Predictions

I think Better in Black will be in chronological order.

I think that therefore it will be flanked by Herongraystairs ships. The first story, an immediate Post-TID Wessa (in Paris)! And the last will be a very recent, TWP-is-imminent Jessa (that features some Kit, too).

I think that there will be 5 historical-era ships (including modern-day Jessa) and 5 modern-era ones.

(NOTE: The stories that I am gunning for hard are Thomastair, Wessa, and Jordelia. If I get those three ships, nothing else will really bug me).

I think that there is about a 0% likelihood of any non-Herongraystairs TID ships. I also think that the chances of Ghostwriter are very low for TLH. I think that the chances of Matthew/LI are quite low, but higher than Ghostwriter. I really want Matthew/LI, so please manifest with me. But it's not my realistic projection.

Chronologically/in the order I think they'll appear, my realistic prediction is as follows. I put in parenthesis what I think will happen in the story, though please treat that as a seperate prediction than story order.

Wessa -> Adjusting to their engagement, spending some time in Paris, perhaps visiting ATOTC-related venues.

Jordelia -> Second wedding runes, probably the most NSFW content in the book, some outings (hopefully) of them out in London and some scenes of them planning their honeymoon. I do really hope to see them in Constantinople, but I don't think that's in the cards. I want to see some of their chess playing, too.

Thomastair -> Honestly, I think we probably will get to see some of them playing with Zachary <3 though I think he'll still be a baby-baby. I imagine it will be some of them babysitting and some scenes of them moving into the Cornwall Gardens house. Honestly I am well and truly satisfied with anything about them, I cannot think of a single story I would not enjoy. Thomastair is my #1 priority for Better in Black.

Arianna -> Perhaps some scenes of them in India, meeting their child for the first time and bringing her back to London to acclimate. Scenes of them adjusting to being mothers. I hope we can see Matthew and his love interest in this one, perhaps they run into them in India. I am excited for this because I felt like their story was unfinished, and I still have some doubts about Anna's character arc. This could lay my doubts to rest. (I really want to stan AriAnna)

Clace -> Skip a hundred years. Perhaps them being engaged.

Malec -> This one's gonna be a huge winner. I think it's probably going to be them with their family and really cute. But if it were my choice, I would write about Alec hanging out with the other warlocks (Catarina, Ragnor, and Tessa) here. Get to know his family a bit, you know?

Haline -> Holiday on the continent? (I also feel like this guess is optimistic and it will probably be Sizzy, but sue me. I want more Haline content.)

Jemma -> I lied when I said I think Jordelia will be the smuttiest story. This one will.

Kierarktina -> Polyamorous Faerie Cottage.

Jessa -> Possibly some setup/teasing for TWP, we will see Kit, there will be domestic Jessa. Basically it'll be a repeat of the last GoTSM story's fundamental purpose lol. But it'll be different. I bet this one has quite some spice, too.
