the ending of episode 7 gave me LITERAL CHILLS. Poseidon’s voiceover as Annabeth helps Percy up as he is about to fight Ares was PERFECT. the writing and direction in this episode was GREAT and the kids were amazing acting wise too - tens all around !!!!

#mp answers#i've been trying so hard not to be annoying to my bnha friends but if you will allow me to push this for this ask let me say 🙏#if you're afraid of the episode count for one piece the manga is a lot quicker read while being just as enjoyable because the art style is#an actual delight. its great its fantastic im absolutely in love with it#the series is soooo good and i know luffy can seem unappealing to people before they start but he's just SUCH a great character & continues#to be even now. the story is SO GOOD the characters are SO GOOD... theres so much lore and world building that its insane#if you read the manga we get 'cover stories' on what's going on with previous characters to see what theyre up to even though we moved on#from where we left them. a lot of these cover stories blend into the main story so well its just seamless#there's one where we get introduced to a character we dont see hundreds of episodes into the anime and they show up like; during the second#saga. the series is about traveling to other islands and every single arc has been tied to another in some way or form that shows up later#even if its sagas and sagas later- it still becomes relevant again!! it's a huge ongoing story and there isnt a single arc that feels like#it has no purpose (sans filler in the anime-but even then!! some filler arcs are really entertaining!)#it's emotional! its sad! its downright stupid and silly but GOD... you can feel the love that oda put into this series and his characters#and the emotions in the expressions and the messages the story gives off it just makes me UEUHGHHAHGHH!!!#it's all about the adventure and the romance of it all! its about the freedom it brings and bringing freedom to others!#its a series where treasure should be a focus given its pirates and the its a giant treasure hunt for the one piece and yet! and yet so man#of the characters treasures are things that are not coins and gems but people and promises and family and and#im going to EXPLODE i love one piece

what like, really gets me about the hitojaku consultation scene was throughout the entire conversation, they were bathed in light as they bounced info back and forth between each other
the moment tho jakurai says he’s lost his lead, the sun sets and the scene darkens because they’ve hit a dead end and are enshrouded in the dark from all these unknowns and wow i can’t believe there’s background symbolism in my rhyme anima??????

so me and Sam FINALLY watched the last season of Capaldi's Who
and tell me how, after literally over a decade and for perhaps the first time in his fucking career, Steven Moffat wrote a not just tolerable but really actually good two-parter and fully stuck the landing. like the editing and pacing were still a bit off but the storyline was original, fun, interesting and emotionally invested, and most importantly, rather than ending on a damp fart or the most furious autofellatio in history, the final part didn't fumble it and ended in a way that felt emotionally satisfying and like it made sense for the characters. like the last time he successfully wrapped up a multiparter in a way that didn't feel cheap and hollowly disappointing to me was literally The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, and a) that was in 2005 and b) tbh The Doctor Dances is about a tenth as compelling and memorable as The Empty Child.
so after 12 years of either hackery or great ideas that fall apart in the second act, Steven Moffat writes what I would genuinely consider to be a memorable Good Doctor Who serial. it ends with bittersweet pathos, a solid closer for all the main characters, and sends Moffat's showrunning career out on a genuine high despite failing ratings and budget cuts (and the fact Doctor Who hasn't been consistently good since about 2009). good job Steve. with grudging respect I admit you pulled it out of the bag on this one.
wait what's this there's one more episode left? and it stars Mark Gatiss? and you literally spend the whole episode inexplicably just shitting all over the legacy of Doctor Who by inventing a version of the First Doctor that bears literally no resemblance to the character that William Hartnell actually played, just so you can spend the whole episode saying misogynistic things to run yourself off to how much more Totally Feminist your version was than the version you made up in your head of what Doctor Who was like in the 60s? and it added literally nothing to the season except to take all the wind out of the sails of the actually good finale you already wrote?
even when he writes a good episode this fucker still finds ways to disappoint me.

SEXY. written on it)#matt Lucas is genuinely surprising bc despite hating the man it's kind of impossible to not like Nardole by the end??#michelle gomez finally gets some room to get her Anthony Ainley on and be the Master PROPERLY#i was hooting and clapping my hands at the John Sim Master's dumb disguise#like the cast is GREAT#(and while he still can't shut the fuck up about her at least Moffat isn't shoving River fucking Song down my throat 24/7)#buuuuuuuut uhhhh the politics are. incoherent and the vibes are rancid in a lot of the episode plots.#they clearly WANT to do Social Commentary but weirdly keep bringing up colonialism and capitalism and then taking the side of the baddies?#how are you doing to do a piece about the British Empire colonising Mars with a posh villain and a whole comparison to the British Raj#then come down on the side of the British state? same with the ninth legion piece? and the zombie spacesuit one is fun#but it wraps up with 'and then they complained to upper management and capitalism ended forever the end'#uhhhhh in the one with the microbot colony again we conclude the Morally Correct Answer is colonialism#don't get me started on the monks plot which is a) literally just ripping off the Year That Never Was but without the emotional impact#but also b) has some really weird and genuinely fucked up ideas about both geopolitics and uhhhh consent????#so yeah the philosophical core is either incoherent or Fucking Horrendous in almost every episode#it's frequently derivative but tbh that's often to its benefit bc it vibes like trying to figure out what actually makes episodes memorable#and the budget is clearly cut to the bone bc the visual effects look worse than 2005 and the post edits are really weird and janky#like the pacing and ordering is weirdly off and a lot of the shot to shot transitions are awkward or confusing.#plus the sound design in the first few eps is. unhinged. it sounds like offbrand versions of standard stings it's all just Slightly Wrong#but for real i liked it more than I've liked any other season of Moffat Who. it's messy incoherent and often politically INFURIATING#but it has some actual heart and energy. and it feels like doctor who. and i would say moffat is spending like 10% as much time#wanking over his own past triumphs (and Alex Kingston)#and a lot more time like. trying to write something which works. he's not like successful 100% of the time. or even 50%.#but there's a lot more warmth and creativity. mackie capaldi and lucas have actual chemistry as a core cast#and i think it helps that everyone in the core cast is SO PSYCHED TO BE THERE. like it just wasn't a slog like all Moffat's other seasons.

#i actually cannot get into this because i wont stop but this shit is so damn good.#i love how big and scary his eyes get when he gets defensive#peter/londo absolutely ATE this scene too like... ACTING!!!!#its just so good its such good delicious food for meee yummy#i just love how intimidating londo is and how sinister he can be#weve been seeing how determined he is and how he schemes to get what he wants#but theres something special about seeing him knock a former ally down a couple pegs#but also bill forward is so god damn perfect for this role in every way its really great#he physically compliments londo in his apperance being taller being more thin his softer features in his face his smaller nose#he is essentially londos waluigi and i love it so much#it makes his role as a foil for londo even more apparent and striking. its perfect.#i love the little mannerisms he has when he acts as refa#his head movements#the nodding thing he does where he tucks his chin into his chest to get Serious#he carries himself in such an Alien way and it is perfect physical acting for a centauri character#he really understood this role and understood the character and i dont think anyone else could have played him#and gave the performance he did#he is soooo criminially underrated#the way that he barely blinks is so slimy and scary it is so fucking perfect. excuse me.#also as an aside#'ohhh londo'#i need to lie down. i hate him.#also refa and londos chemistry is actually insane in every scene they have i am locked the fuck in because theyre both so capitavting#and they work with each other So Well#i need to just write my damn essay on him and get it all out of my system because whew.#lots of thoughts for a guy in six episodes ! ! !

s1 episode 19 thoughts
my evening scully and mulder time has arrived!!! i read the synopsis of the episode- that they investigate a shapeshifting Indigenous creature- and (correctly) made the guess that things would be. well. appropriation-y.
the first thing i wrote was "roarrrrr a bear", this is because we see a taxidermy bear. hope that clears up any confusion.
the old man looks like mark twain. which is a normal thing to notice about a guy.
the son of mark twain guy- who shot a creature that turned out to be a man- pulls our duo aside and mentions how he knows their story doesn't make sense. i admired this self-aware move. most of the people who give mulder and scully their evidence are less willing to admit that it's kinda unlikely they really got abducted by aliens or saw bigfoot or whatever. so he won me over in this way.
scully's annoyed because she thinks it's just a homicide and says there's NOTHING unusual about this... and at that very moment mulder rolls up with a big piece of skin like "nope. nothing weird at all". count on him to find that. seems just like the thing he'd do. spooky mulder and all.
they go to a bar on the reservation to try and find the sheriff and learn more, but are met with a chilly reception due to the fact that they are working for the US government. but we see the dead guy's sister and she is very pretty as well as an old man that mulder talks to about shapeshifting.
"i want to believe" <- HE SAID THE LINE!!!!!
when they go to check the guy's body, mulder gets on the ground and opens the deceased's mouth to reveal: he has fangs!!!!!!!! which is probably the first time mulder looking in a dead guy's mouth has found anything useful! but certainly not the last.
at this point scully is weirded tf out because like. he knew to look for the skin AND jumped straight to the dead guy's teeth and she says mulder, you had best tell me what is going on right NOW. and we get a lore reveal!!! he knows all this because a similar case was the... drumroll please...
VERY! FIRST! X-FILE!!!!!
everyone cheered and clapped and pointed at the screen.
everyone EXCEPT scully, that is. because she is pissed that he would propose people can turn into animals. she got so mad that she got out of the car and left. this reaction is likely why mulder did not tell her about his hunch in the first place, but really can you blame her? she is a doctor. that profession is too busy to deal with werewolves.
they had giant umbrellas in almost every scene of this episode. oh, to be tromping around the pacific northwest adjacent era, hunting for clues in the rain... how atmospheric!
scully says she's very sorry to the murdered man's sister. not much to note here beyond that it was a kind thing to do.
there's a scene where someone turns into a wolf creature and pummels mark twain man and it looked remarkably similar to the attack my werewolf character in skyrim performs, which made me laugh. the "lunge and rip the person apart" technique must be universal to werewolf media across the land.
scully finds mark twain guy's son hurt in a field and takes him to the hospital! that was very kind of her but: i don't like it when our duo splits up. i enjoy their codependency.
but oh no!! things are not looking good for our murdered man's sister, who has since gone missing. did she do it....? (spoilers: nah she's innocent)
i felt very bad for the scraggly guy scully found in the middle of a field, who seem to thought that he somehow triggered his father's death. scully says she knows how it feels because she just lost her dad and holds his hand as he cries. scully :(((((((((
so then mulder and the sheriff visit an elder who explains the myth of the shapeshifter to them as one who is attacked and then attacks others, and cannot remember the trance they fall into. they refer to this as an Algonquin legend, and at first i was confused because the Algonquin live on the opposite side of north america, but the term can also refer to the entire language family that stretches across the continent. the more you know!
(regardless, the appropriation of Indigenous imagery as a form of horror entertainment by white folks is always gonna be Problematic and i do not excuse them of this crime)
but this is a sad kind of monster, in the x-files universe at least- one who doesn't know they are attacking others, which is a very compelling trope imo...
and we learn the kid had his father's blood in him, which can only happen if he ate his dad... which means...
OH NO! HE'S GONNA EAT SCULLY!
(actually i will copy my notes verbatim here, which i wrote while she drove him home, then continued writing as she tried to help him out while he was acting weird and locked himself in the bathroom)
"NOOO THE KID IS THE EVIL FELLOW AND SCULLY IS DRIVING HIM HOME this is what being a doctor gets you ohhh poor kid and poor scully she just wants to do her doctor duties and she'll pick the damn lock if she needs to that's doctorly dedication NOOOO HE'S GONNA EAT HER NOOOO NOT IN SEASON ONE WE HAVE SO MANY MORE TO GET TO"
wow, i think that says a lot. feel free to unpack that at a later time.
anyway, mulder realizes what is going on and he shows up with the sheriff guns blazing. like seriously, he SHOOTS the taxidermied bear i had earlier said "roaaaaar" to. the head is blown clean off. he was NOT going to let scully get eaten.
finally during his search of the ranch, he opens a door and she's hiding in there. they fall on top of each other and she says "it's okay, it's me, it's okay" and. man. the whispering. the need to be at each other's side in the face of imminent danger. the relief of those hushed words. it's okay. it's me. they're together again and they can face this Thing as a united front. ohhhhhhh hold me tight.
the sheriff shoots the mysterious creature and surprise! it turns into the guy who had been previously found naked in a field and accused of eating his father.
scully is deeply perplexed by all of this. she does not know what to think, for a mere 24-ish hours ago she was talking about how a human cannot become an animal! another instance of her central beliefs being shaken to the core.
before they leave, the old man yells to mulder "see you in about 8 years" referring to the cyclical nature of the attacks. and he says "i hope not"... how very ominous... i will certainly keep this in mind for future seasons
i thought the suspense in this episode was really good and i knew deep down she wasn't really going to be eaten, but i was still scared, so it certainly did its job in that regard. overall, not my fave episode though for cultural appropriation reasons- hint to those reading: Don't profit off of bastardizing Indigenous belief systems.
they did serve with those goth black umbrellas, though, i'll give them that.
#as always scully in doctor mode is a great treat to witness and i don't think i'll get over it. his need to Protect and her need to Heal.#so complimentary#but like again. i understand that this ep engages in exploitation of indigenous belief systems and i Do Not Excuse That#i merely take serious my duty of updating the world on every single episode i watch and speaking honestly of their contents#i saw the same sort of monster was used in hannibal which is something i never got into but still. the conversation is relevant.#would love to read some academic studies on how indigenous folklore has been used in media and its ramifications if anyone has reading recs#juni's x files liveblog#txf#the x files

My ferrets are seniors now and are slowly getting Old Ferret Diseases :(
#rascal has insulinoma (a type of cancer) we are treating him for to great success! peachfuzz just had a mystery episode of#confusion and hindleg partial... paralysis? until she got some salmon oil. so she may also have some glucose strangeness happening now#so I'm calling the vet in the morning to hopefully figure this out bc things can go downhill quickly if not treated for ferrets#hopefully her problems are as treatable as his#she has always been a bit more easily confused and probably partially blind but never had issues like this before#she was having trouble recognizing me and her brother and her surroundings then fell down on the ramp#(she was okay it was a very very mild fall. a stumble onto her back really)#but both of them are coming up onto 5 years now and are petstore ferrets and runts to boot! so#they're pretty on schedule for these kinds of things#it's still distressing and sad though#I always wish I had spent more time with them even though I spend literally every day with them and have ever since we got them#it's the grief#ask to tag#my text posts#animal illness mention

#kr saber lb#kr lb#umbrella.thoughts#umbrella.posts#what if every episode didn't make me cry?#i think this episode really exemplifies why touma is such a good kamen rider#he's a symbol of hope that people put their faith and trust into#but he doesn't do it alone he always acknowledges how he can fight bc he has things worth fighting for and he recognizes others do to#he knows that there's more people to protect than those closest to him he knows that people all have someone they care about#and if they cannot fight for the ones they love touma will bc he knows how precious people can be and he knows the sorrow of not being able#to save everyone#touma has burdens and faults but they don't take away from his efforts nor his love#i think this episode did a great job of showing kento touma and luna as a trio#it really feels like they care so much about her and her of them#they are willing to sit down and talk and learn to understand each other's viewpoints#they have a bond that has been worth fighting for and will continue to be#also we got a really sweet moment between rintaro and mei#storious is also great and i will continue to say this#since day one he was planning and scheming from the sidelines and only took his place as the final villain after he had most of the things#ready to be put together so he could gain the power of the almighty book

#hope talks#bobs burgers is getting a little shaky in its older seasons as all long running shows are oft to do but the movie was good#the great north i have some Ciritisms of (feels very much like it was made to appease white gays in progressive / wealthy cities despite tak#ing place in an alaskan small town ) but is overall consistent in quality#duncanville relies too heavily on 'did you get the reference' or 'WHOA did that just happen???' jokes#in addition to the many many many very weird and unfunny incest 'jokes'#is easy 2 see why its been cancelled already#SORRY I watch shows about a family called something like the Bingles#something the great north does that annoys me a little is that every time a plot device is introduced someone has 2 ask a question and then#that question gets explained. there has 2 be a more organic way of going about that. literally every episode there's at least one#'What is [X]?' also if anyone is ever afraid of being repetitive in their writing, the first three episodes of the original Star Trek series all seem to follow roughly the same plot beats of ‘oh no we let something with immense power onto the ship and they’re trying to seduce a crewmember: get. it. off. the. ship.’
so like I think it’s ok if you’ve got a couple recurring tropes every now and then XD

Officially on vacation as of this past Thursday (but it doesn’t entirely count considering I spent most of that day sewing and then Friday/Saturday at Otakon and Sunday flopped in a chair recovering from the con-- terrible line management and poor shoe choices on Saturday negated my desire to go for the third day), so replies both here and on @burntchild will be happening throughout the week!
Admittedly, I’m spending some of this week working on new garb for the Renaissance festival coming up and getting a head start on some Anime USA stuff for October, because I don’t understand the concept of “vacation” terribly well. But still! Words! The muses are starting to get loud and demand attention!

#munday.#man that was a super fun con#exhausting as otakon tends to be and i have beef with the staff for making people who already had their badges wait in a massive line#every single time they left the convention and came back which has never happened at any other con i've been to in the last 21 years#but wearing totoro is always a blast#and so many people recognized my evelyn lol#which i was not expecting bc she's in like one episode and i only saw ONE other ofmd costume all weekend (a really great ed on saturday)#but cannot WAIT for anime usa bc it's back at my favorite hotel for that con#lot of good memories there
