Interim AEW Champion - Who Will It Be? (And Who it Should Be)
Tumblr media
Injuries suck, and sadly injury has knocked on the AEW World Champion's door. Sadly, CM Punk's injury makes him unable to compete until he's healed from surgery, so AEW have a pickle: someone needs to face Tanahashi.
The plan as we can see is to pit Tanahashi against the winner of Moxley (No. 1 ranked) and the winner of Wednesday's battle royale. The winner at Forbidden Door will be the Interim AEW World Champion. AEW has a large roster of potential world champions, but who should be the one to leave Forbidden Door as champion?
Jon Moxley Obviously, the top ranked competitor has the advantage. Not only is he an experienced champion but he already has been feuding with Tanahashi in NJPW, being champion with a crowd too is owed for Moxley.
Wardlow The War Dog is over like rover and number 2 in the rankings, running high on a Goldberg-like push. Putting over the younger powerhouse would certainly be something up AEW's alley, as well as something Punk'd approve of since he claimed Wardlow was who beat him in Chicago.
Bryan Danielson Danielson's two bouts for the AEW World Championship have both been classics, and there was still a lot more untapped with him and Moxley going at it. The Best Professional Wrestler will of course be someone to consider for the world title.
PAC The Bastard hasn't had the most fruitful time in AEW, thanks a lot in part to COVID's travel restrictions but also because the House of Black continue to undo his faction of Death Triangle. But having PAC as world champion would be solid course correction, you cannot doubt his athleticism and talent, let alone his promo skills, and as his heelish tweener role he'd be a great foil for consummate babyface Tanahashi.
Miro God's favourite champion is back, and while people fancied him taking back the TNT title, why not go bigger? Miro proved as TNT champion to be dominant in the ring but able to carry a compelling narrative, people will love to see it.
Malakai Black Malakai Black is coming off strong having defeated Death Triangle, with Julia also recruited the House of Back is established as a powerful and dominant unit, and someone of Black's talents could certainly run as world champion against Tanahashi and a unification feud with Punk.
Adam Cole As winner of the Owen, Adam Cole is definitely someone who can stake a claim. As a champion around the globe, Cole can lead another Undisputed Expedition of Gold to follow up what seems to be the Young Bucks making another claim for the tag titles. You'll get good matches and a charismatic champion, so there's little to go wrong.
'Hangman' Adam Page We must of course consider the one Punk beat as well. Page getting the title back would tell an interesting story given how he lost it after almost falling to darkness. Would a slow heel turn brew from Hangman getting back his prize? And keeping it by any means necessary?
Andrade El Idolo Andrade has recently formed an alliance with RUSH again in hopes of gaining more wins in AEW, people were high on him winning the TNT title but like Miro, why not go further? He's still super talented and charismatic, and while feuding with LIJ would be an ideal Forbidden Door spot for him and RUSH, being world champion may be something more intriguing to El Idolo...so long as it doesn't disrupt his honeymoon of course.
Hiroshi Tanahashi Since a new champion is to be crowned at Forbidden Door we cannot rule out the opponent. What a closer it would be for Forbidden Door for someone to become champion from it? Nobody has yet to do it with AEW's championships at least, so a surprise could be on the card for the Ace of New Japan to take AEW's biggest championship.
KENTA In that same vein though, KENTA was perhaps the first to break through the Forbidden Door between AEW and NJPW, when he attacked Jon Moxley as part of their IWGP US Championship feud but also to help Kenny Omega in his feud with Moxley. The pieces line up well, but also since his initial bout was rejected, KENTA as champion could force Punk's hand with the inevitable dream match and Battle of the GTS.
But it Should Be: MJF While we can all speculate the others to be good champions, for my mind and money the only option can be MJF.
Now granted, this does go with the premise that his promo and removal of the Roster page is a work, but it could also be a spectacular work. Imagine if you would that Shawn Spears seemingly enters the battle royale, and when an over with the crowd winner looks to have won Spears eliminates them, following up that he was never actually in the Battle Royale, but was there to support who was actually in it: MJF. By having him blindside and beat Moxley (perhaps with JAS shenanigans too because this did put a wrench in Blood and Guts plans) we have a perfect situation of Tanahashi the Face and MJF the Heel. But then to have MJF win it would produce ungodly amount of heat, which AEW could use to pose the narrative of MJF holding the AEW World Championship hostage in order to meet his wild and selfish demands; pay rises, giving his allies title shots, keeping the diamond ring, revoking Shawn Dean's wins against him, forbidding anyone he's beaten from challenging for the title. What's more, we could have him think that last point will keep him away from Punk, only for the loophole to be that MJF is actually challenging for Punk's title since he's the interim, but then also win the unification bout.
We can talk all we want about who would make a good champion, but the most compelling story right now would be for the Devil to have his Due.

I am overwhelmed with the things I can talk about with Matt just giving a damn nod to Hangman. Do I talk about
-The Bucks finally being in Hangman’s corner (and how that journey relates to them being in Brandon’s corner and their place as losers in the Elite and so much more)
-Hangman not needing them but still having them
-Can the Bucks and Hangman be friends again?
-The Bucks dethroned every Bullet Club leader they were under and how much that nod looked like a kill order
-Matt being the one to nod and how this is very much the old dynamic of the Bucks where they are one unit and Matt speaks for both of them and everybody knows that’s what’s happening.
-This betrayal to Kenny. They’ve never not been in his corner. They have been his seconds since New Japan.
-Kenny’s massive insecurity about his friends leaving him and him not having the title to hide behind
-Kenny’s old insecurity that the Bucks would leave him for Adam Cole
-Adam Cole’s presence re-prioritizing where the Bucks see themselves in AEW and the Elite
-The dissolution of the Elite (faction) of their own making
-Kenny’s incoming meltdown and where the Bucks stand with Kenny. The Elite (trio) love each other a whole lot.
-Cody next?

As we all know, it’s likely that Kenny Omega’s days as AEW World Champion are coming to an end, just a few days until Hangman Adam Page finally wins the big one. So what’s next for Kenny after this?
Well his character has a tendency to spiral, especially after big loses, and I think the next focus for him is The Elite, more specifically the fall of the Elite. An even more broken down Kenny, no championship to give him validation, turns to his elite brothers with the aim to pick himself back up, but what if that is just impossible in the current state of The Elite.
The arrival of Adam Cole has been an interesting one. His rejoining of the Elite was celebrated, the pop when him and the bucks do the cheek kiss spot in their matches proves that. However, we all know the seeds have been planted from the beginning.
The Elite as a unit are known for their fantastic nuanced storytelling, I mean look to their story with Hangman, especially the revolution 2020 match. Their mannerisms add so much to these incredibly well thought out stories and Kenny Omega and Adam Cole have this mastered. During Adam Cole’s first moments in All Elite Wrestling, when he receives two sweet (wink wink) kisses from the Young Bucks, Kenny is seen behind Adam planting a kiss on the back of his head, Kenny is pushed into the background.
Even as recent as the October 27th AEW Dynamite, during that very fun Halloween match, Kenny approaches Stu Grayson to apply a camel clutch but is quickly instructed by Cole to block any of the Dark Order members from entering the ring, quickly replacing Kenny, applying the camel clutch and doing that oh so popular kiss spot with the Bucks. Omega has been pushed into the background ever since Cole arrived, the SuperKliq becoming the staple team of the elite, about to take part in a match at Full Gear on November 13th as a unit.
I think that the next route for Kenny Omega after losing the championship is for him to experience a fall from grace. That cocky, over the top, egotistical persona knocked out of him once Hangman Adam Page finally lands that Buckshot Lariat for the 1 2 3. The story from there is that, whilst the man he once called a partner celebrates with people who actually helped him accept himself and accepted him as family, Kenny is left to watch the Bucks, his best friends, his brothers, his family, drift away from him and right into the arms of Adam Cole.
Now the question is whether Kenny adorns a even more vicious heel persona or if Adam and the bucks stab him right in the back and through his heart. I personally believe that this may be the beginning of a very well thought out face turn for Omega, possibly even reuniting with Hangman at some point to open up the door for a full elite to once exist again. Or… due to the existence of the forbidden door there is always a possibility that Omega will see a blinding light, a Phoenix, a golden star. Simply waiting for him on the other side, ready to walk toward him and save him from the fall.

Top 20 Wrestlers of 2021 (Part 1)
Description: 2021 was one of the strangest years in recent memory as far as Pro Wrestling is concerned. The pandemic era in general has seen a lot of changes and to a certain degree the business and the products produced in it have not completely gotten back to normal. If you had told me in 2019 we would have Bryan Danielson & CM Punk at the same company and a heel Roman Reigns would be one of the most over guys in the WWE, I would've argued it down, I wouldn't have been able to fathom it but here we are.
5. Shingo Takagi-After dominating Dragon Gate as the top heel for a long stretch, Shingo Takagi showed up in New Japan Pro Wrestling as a much needed addition to LIJ in 2018. EVIL split in 2020 becoming a member of Bullet Club and although he got some championships and a pretty good singles run out of it, I don't think his turn made the impact that was expected. Bullet Club has struggled to find it's footing after losing The Elite (Kenny & The Bucks) and other high profile members like Marty Scurll, Adam Cole & Cody Rhodes but I think LIJ has had the same struggles. EVIL & SANADA's time in the tag division didn't make that big of a splash and Hiromu suffered a significant neck injury that took him out of action for quite some time. Bushi has always kind of been a role player and hasn't been able to stand out amongst the members of the stable and of course Naito is still Naito but they really haven't had another legitimate main event presence until Shingo showed up. Before he and Will Ospreay would become official heavyweights and leave the Junior division, they would began one of the greatest and most exciting rivalries of the era. Their match in the Best of the Super Juniors Tournament in 2019 was the spark that lit the fuse. I think that was the moment the fans began to realize we had something here. They would meet again in other high profile matches the G1 Climax of 2020 and then again in the New Japan Cup of 2021 where he would fall to Ospreay in the finals. Ospreay would appear to have the lead in their rivalry but Shingo kept himself in the conversation when he won the World Heavyweight Championship by besting Okada in Osaka. For now, Shingo appears to have solidified himself as a top contender and while he's not exactly young, longevity is common in New Japan. At 39 years old, he could feasibly be a main stay in the rivalry for the ace spot for years to come. 4. Will Ospreay-I first discovered Will Ospreay working for WCPW which later became Defiant Wrestling and is now defunct. The first time I saw him work, I knew he was something special. Guys like him get a lot of flak for their more acrobatic style and Puroresu snobs don't like "flippy shit" in their wrestling but I think the majority of wrestling fans can enjoy his style for what is, and they can agree that he's a skilled worker.
He started bulking up in 2018 as he made his way to NJPW's heavyweight division. He toned his style down a little because he's not going to be young forever. All of those flips and acrobatic moves and throwing caution to the wind could cost him his health, so while he's still a highflyer...he puts more of his core strength into his work. He's been a championship collector all over the world since his early 20's and in 2021 at 27-28 years old, he didn't show any signs of slowing down.
Coming off of a big 2020 where he had finally captured the RevPro British Heavyweight Championship for the first time, which he still holds currently and his United Empire stable was formed in New Japan after he transitioned from under Kazuchika Okada as a member of Chaos, Will Ospreay set his sights on the IWGP World Championship and became one of it's 4 title holders since it's unification after he defeated Kota Ibushi in Tokyo at the NJPW 49th Anniversary Show.
Ospreay had a chance to leave NJPW and maybe seek bigger money and more recognition at WWE or maybe even AEW. Contracts aren't forever, but he has made it clear that NJPW is his home and he's built a legacy for himself in both the Junior Heavyweight Division and now in the Heavyweight Division after he's won the big one. The best part is with Ospreay being under 30 and people who work in Japan having so much longer of a life span in the sport because they work less dates and don't put a lot of wear and tear on their bodies, they can get so much more use out of him in years to come.
3. Kota Ibushi-Ibushi like Ospreay spent a lot of time as a Junior in NJPW but he also wouldn't commit to them fully. In 2019 he made it clear that he was at the company to stay, and they began working on his ascent to the top of the mountain. He didn't follow his long-time friend, Kenny Omega to AEW even after they reunited as "The Golden Lovers" and New Japan rewarded him heavily for it.
In 2019 he became the first wrestler in the history of the company to win the G1 Climax, the Best of the Super Juniors and The New Japan Cup. In 2020 he won the G1 Climax again and then in 2021 @ Wrestle Kingdom 15, he defeated Tetsuya Naito for the IWGP Intercontinental & Heavyweight Championship, making him a double champion. Those titles were unified in March, also making him the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion but he would lose that new title to Will Ospreay after he won the New Japan Cup.
After the departure of Kenny Omega and The Elite, New Japan has had to scramble and make new stars because they lost the new Ace's biggest rival and their strongest Gaijin heel stable was gutted. Ibushi choosing to stay in Japan and make his mark on NJPW was great for them because he's one of the best performers this company has ever seen, and he has history with a lot of their bigger names which will make for some great rivalries moving forward.
2. Kenny Omega-It can be argued that Kenny Omega deserves to be #1 on this list over Roman Reigns. Kenny has never had the massive corporate machine behind him in the sport but he's managed to keep his name relevant and in the midst of that "Best in the World conversation" for quite some time now. At the close of 2020, he defeated Jon Moxley to win the AEW World Championship and he not only became the focal point of that company's business but the focal point of several others as well. In April of 2021, Omega would add a 3rd World Championship to his name after he defeated Rich Swann to become Impact's World Champion. He had already been holding AAA's Mega Championship since 2019. AAA does big business in Mexico, so much so that WWE even being the largest pro wrestling company in the world and having huge international stars can't really compete with them on that front. When Omega vacated the title in November of 2021, he ended his reign as the longest reigning champion in the history of the title.
Indy wrestlers or guys who work promotions outside of the U.S. like Progress and NJPW are no strangers to winning multiple titles at the same time, but I don't think it's ever been done on this scale. Even when Cody Rhodes was both the IWGP United States Champion and NWA Champion, NWA didn't even have a home, their product wouldn't re-launch until 2019 when "NWA Powerrr" started airing on Youtube. Kenny doing all of this as a heel made him attractive opponent for babyfaces looking to make a name for themselves. That babyface would be Hangman Adam Page. It's not talked about often in Pro Wrestling any more what different characters actually gain by working with or against one another or what heels/babyfaces are supposed to contribute to their stories or to their peers in competition with them. Kenny's run doesn't have value because of what it did for him, he's already a legend on his resume alone but it has value for what it did for Page. He put him in the highest position he's ever been in his career.
1. Roman Reigns-If someone keeps giving you the ball, eventually you have to dunk it and that's exactly what Roman Reigns did in 2020 and continued to do in 2021. Roman became Vince McMahon's "golden boy" around late 2014-early 2015. Out of the members of The Shield it was evident that he was the Superstar Vince wanted to be the face of the company in the future. He had the look, he had the Pro Wrestling lineage, he was a solid worker and best of all in Vince's eyes, he was homegrown. He was the one member of that faction that Vince could take credit for. Seth Rollins as Tyler Black and Dean Ambrose as Jon Moxley already had careers in the business before they came to WWE. Roman was also the last member of the group to shed the image and the branding of the stable. While Dean Ambrose went for a more everyman look and Rollins went for a more superhero/vigilante style look as "The Kingslayer" and then later a supervillain look as the "Monday Night Messiah", Roman kept his typical look, the tactical vests and even the Shield theme music for the bulk of his time on the main roster.
Roman floundered as a babyface for years. He didn't get over organically with the fans. Many felt that everything he is was manufactured, he was a corporate created entity. For the boos we gave him, the fans suggested a heel turn but WWE wouldn't pull the trigger on it until Summerslam 2020. After allying himself with Paul Heyman, Roman Reigns set his sights on the Universal Championship, a title he vacated when the pandemic hit. His Leukemia put him at risk for COVID-19. Bray Wyatt had become "The Fiend" at this point and was in a heated feud with his former brother-in-arms, Braun Strowman. At Payback Roman would defeat them both, becoming Universal Champion for the 3rd time in his career. With the top title in the company in his possession he declared himself "The Head of the Table". He would later clash with his cousin Jey Uso while his brother Jimmy was out with a knee injury. This was the biggest moment of Jey's career because without his brother he was free to go out on his own and make a name for himself but Roman asserted his dominance over him even while getting him into main events and pushing him to his limits. Roman didn't want to beat Jey, he just wanted him to "acknowledge him"; to acknowledge him as his "Tribal Chief" and the head of the Anoa'i Family Table. When Jimmy returned to stand up for his brother, that put him in harm’s way and ultimately The Usos as a unit ended up bending to the will of Roman giving him what he wanted. At the close of his feud with Jey, Afa & Sika (Roman's Father & Uncle aka The Wild Samoans) would officially crown Roman the "Tribal Chief" as they placed the Ulafala around his neck.
With his family in his corner, forming the Bloodline, Roman would leave a trail of bodies behind him. The bodies of those who were gunning for the Universal Championship. He laid waste to the biggest stars on the SmackDown brand between 2020 and 2021 and killed the momentum of anyone who thought they were gonna knock him off his square, which included, Kevin Owens, Cesaro, Bray Wyatt, Braun Strowman, Finn Balor, Sami Zayn, John Cena, Montez Ford and even the Raw World Champions, Drew McIntyre and Big E.
Roman is undoubtedly doing the best work of his career. His promos seem more natural even though you know they are scripted; he's embraced the hatred he has received over the course of his career, and he has settled in to his first actual "character" since he's been on the main roster. He's been having stellar matches too. Usually, I would trash this sort of booking because there doesn't seem to be much benefit for anyone else but for the time being it is working. WWE is finally getting their wish. Roman has completely changed the perception of him in the eyes of some fans. He gets more positive reactions as a heel than he did as a babyface. He's maybe the biggest star of his generation and he continues to put eyes on the product and carry the flag for the company. For me, there is more value in the final payoff when he puts someone else over, but I can wait until they get to their destination.

aew dynamite 4/20 thoughts
not going to break down everything from this, but will talk about some random thoughts/observations
page & punk: i’m so excited to see how they set this up & am firmly rooting for page, since i think it’s too early to take the belt off of him. what i’m interested with this though is the general booking direction they go with, because i have a working theory about where they could take page that i may be completely off the mark on, but regardless they’ve done such beautiful character work with page that i love that multiple things feel possible. so, they’ve done these deliberate character beats where page went from being hesitant about violence to embracing it, sometimes to the point of discomfort on his part. his title defenses have been very violent, with danielson and archer being the instigators, his intro into matches of that kind, and then with his instincts towards cole and suggesting the texas deathmatch himself (a match i loved but that was very mild lol, i popped for cole’s inability to blade). so, i think in a promotion like aew, leaning more into violence does not equal heel work; often it can mean the opposite. but the way they’ve set up the page beats has been a bit difference. page is a character that gets lost in his own emotions, they consume him. his fight to the top was him combating his own insecurities and trying not to let them drown him. i can see them running with him losing himself in a different kind of emotion, like ruthlessness. page has confidence now, but how much of it is him acting the part, willing it to be. how easily can that be broken down again? most other characters who are more permanently self-assured or just don’t have the nuance of a character like page can easily be and do both. it wouldn’t be a thing. but IF they wanted to, they could continue his story by depicting him as a man who loses himself in the violence. page’s triumph can have more story to tell, about a new challenge, a new setback.  no matter what, the eventual endgame is to get back to that elite lineup, for kenny & page to reconcile. the question is how does he get there. my idea is that he gets lost again and this time the bucks and kenny are the ones to eventually bring him back. i think most people are assuming punk goes heel for this. it makes sense, that’s been his natural role for so much of his career. but i think there’s a more interesting story they could tell, and it’s this one. i think punk’s role in this company is working really well for him right now. heel punk in this feud will be great, don’t get me wrong. no matter what i think they’re going to have a much better build than cole/page had, which felt like a missed opportunity. i’m particularly interested to see how page fairs with his promos since punk is the best promo around (save eddie) and page has grown a lot in that department, but he’s not a natural at it. so that should be interesting! no matter what, i can’t wait!!!!!
- the Undisputed Elite look united and focused now which is great. i hope they can build themselves back up. bobby fish not quite realizing they lost was very funny. Bucks notably not in flashy duds.
- Jay White hot. this Forbidden Door show is going to rule. i’m so excited for it. if Kenny isn’t back by then, then the entire event is for naught. Same with Kota. i’ll be so upset if either of them aren’t in this PPV. what an exciting thing to happen
- wow, the Kris/Leyla/Red Velvet feud sort of fell apart, huh? leyla’s injury was the clincher. you can tell that they’re trying to reposition some women into heel roles. red velvet was just not received well during the willow match (SIGN WILLOW) & now she’s a baddie. i think that’s the right move. just redefine her, forgo a transition, just make the move. i miss leyla. i’d love for kris to be a tweener. i need to catch up on Dark because i’m a big Kris fan.
- the audience seemed out on it but i really loved the kyle o’reilly/jungle boy match. they have good in-ring chemistry and o’reilly’s grappling mixes with jungle boy’s high-flying in ways that are really compelling. i also loved that kyle won. it was very unexpected. i do think that because aew overprotects their talent it means that the win/lose of most matches are easily telegraphed. so this was a nice change. it was a nice kayfabe character beat of jungle boy not being at quite the level he needs to for singles competition. he still needs luchasaurus. the moment with christian after was really lovely. & that kyle beat him CLEAN!
- Lance vs Wardlow?!?!?!?! Y E S. also the beauty of lance interrupting the warped poetry of jake the snake’s promo, gotta love it.
- ok, Sammy & Tay. lmao. this has been fascinating & infuriating & a trainwreck but at least they’re back to somewhat controlling it again, albeit very awkwardly. this is a perfect example of how real life & kayfabe intersect. sammy & tay get together. sammy & tay are seperate faces in the company. they get together and, in part because of the way sammy brought his previous engagement out into the show, ppl aren’t into it. ppl aren’t into it not for the reasons they like to think! it’s because they flaunt themselves in the most immature nauseating ways, as if they’re the popular high school power couple & you all can’t handle it. it’s extremely lame. ppl reject it. they insert themselves into the lambert feud, in the place where cody was supposed to be. & hilariously, sammy & tay find themselves in the same position that cody & brandi did. rejected even in a feud with misogyny spewing dan lambert. not good! so then it’s awkward. the powers that be have to figure out how they’re going to move forward with this feud. will they refuse to adapt like cody did? or will they lean in and turn heel together to try and salvage it? thankfully this week solidified a heel turn for them (started from the low blow to scorpio the previous week). this feud is still a disaster but i’m so glad they’ve at least turned them. i’ve disliked sammy from the start and i’ve disliked tay from the start but now that they’re heels and we’re supposed to hate them, it feels right. i just hope they can move out of this feud and start something fresh with someone else. if we MUST have a 3rd TNT run for sammy, at least him being heel switches it up a bit. bit christ almighty, they really have to get this belt off of him. i miss miro. having men of the year kind-of faces is much less natural, i’m very amused by it. their strategy so far is for dan to be dynamite dan (lol) and not really be on the mic. it’s....very funny to see them try to figure out a way for any of this to work at all. not another ladder match. let it lie! plus, the ladder match with cody and sammy will never ever be topped. like, ever. having sammy in another is just an insult to that match.
- was happy to see britt back. i grew to miss her! i liked her match with kamela a lot overall (1st time seeing her and she was really good). let’s do this tournament and pull the trigger on this jamie feud PLEASE. britt really went in on toni during her promo (bringing up the wwe cake incident wow) which has me thinking they will match up for the tournament at some point
- SHIDA/DEEB street fight Y E S
- FTR squaring off for the tournament?!?!?! who do i even want to win, idek! really love that though, reminds me of how Stardom has factions or allies go against each other very often and it’s no big.
- thought the coffin match got short shrift. loved Sting’s role in the match but really wanted it to be just darby and andrade since they have great chemistry together. the end was clearly super rushed for time so it felt like there was a lack of punctuation there. i’m hoping everyone can move onto something else now though. darby & andrade now following each other and complimenting each other on social. jeff straining his arm just doing the delete motion, oh jeff. would love to see darby & andrade as allies!

“Now we have geese in the water, looking something.”
“It’s not a pack of wolves, okay?”
“It’s called an undisciplined guy.”
“It came because we were catching all big fish”
“Algebra: without algebra there is nothing in life.”
“You are like fish”
“Your brain will grow like a cabbage”
“O.M.G. Our mutual goal”
“Tongue rolling attitude”
“A gebra named al”
 “Knowledge shouldn’t be soft”
“Hands up, how many hands do you have?” Max says, “10.” (We have a theory that he’s an alien, he’s also said things like “blonde eyed, blue haired”)
“Only happy people watch a clock, because they want to extend their happiness.”
“Relax, feel in my classroom, at home.”
“Someone is running water.”
“In U.S. you have freedom and liberty” (Mr. G is talking about not finding the discriminant before solving.)
“Bacon, bacon, bacon, bacon, bacon, where is my bacon.”
“Alexa, turn off, Alexa will you turn off your music?” (Caused several other people’s Alexa’s to turn on over Google Meets)
“Dying, just relax guys, I’m not dying.”
“Tilda likes her boys like she likes her numbers, positive.”
“What’s up is here.”
CMC: “A score of 14 and over should be commended.”
Mr. G: A score of 14 and over shouldn’t be commended in this classroom.”
(He told math team he expected us to get at least 26)
“Relley, you are number 7”
“Two minutes! It is too much time!”
“Sixth graders are like rabbits. They are always twitching, and each time you turn around there are more of them.”
“Only Mr. G can put flesh and blood into these skeletons.”
“In Ukraine, they call it the big bear, but here, you call it the big diaper.” (He meant the big dipper)
“Boo, did you do your homework?!” (We have a great recording of this one. We did it for our Spooky Room™ in advisory because his granddaughter is in my advisory)
“Sing the song!” (Then he ‘sings’ the quadratic formula on like one note)
“The textbook is your bible.”
“Shake your heads!”
“‘Good Morning!’ said Bilbo, ‘What do you mean?’ he said. ‘Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good one?’”
“Alessandra, you need a life.” (This was really odd for him to say a student shouldn’t just spend all their time on mathematics, a different teacher ran out of the room to tell people @ohnoimfangirlingagain)
“Tilda, you are good, not great, but good.”
“You are the best of the best.”
“You now owe me a Ritz box.”

“Not president of the united states, but candidate for the equation”
“You are very good citizen of BPC school.”
“Guys tell me, difficult? Difficult in training or easy in battle taking test.”
“Extraneous root is like outside fish that we throw back to the sea because it is not the fish.” (One of my favorites. I’m making it bold so that it’s more visible)
“Relax, go under sofa or whatever is best place for you.”
“ZPP, not Zina.”
“Off we start”
“Alexa, I am not asking you, switch off, Alexa, Alexa, thank you.”

“Gabby, open your face.”
“You have 9 minutes to relax.”
"Examples, they are clear? Good color?"
"Who is joining shout?"
“Everything: Mr. G is doing everything thoroughly, digging, digging, digging. Where is digging?”
“Coming to this minus, says, ‘Hello!’.”
“The secret is easy: you don't do any stupid things.”
“I will introduce the basic things, and skeleton.”
“Margaux, show me your face. I have forgot already in two months.”
“Drink coffee, oops, tea... talk to your dog... make your cat happy... keep energy up.”
"Just take in your bloodstream"
“Why are you running in orchard, picking wegetables.”
“In many countries. In Ukraine, we had Chernobyl and stay at home, in Africa, we had disease outbreak, no tvs. Now. I am good at distance learning.” (He’s from Ukraine and also taught in Africa)
“See they are asking you? Did you get four? If you didn’t get four, you have a problem?”
“I know, I know, but they are more mistakes here, they are playing tricks, they are wrong.”
“Grudge on you, very big grudge on you.”
“You see, I am covering.”
“Don’t jump to conclusion, good teams don’t jump to conclusion. Now jump to conclusion.”
Anastasiya “Play ocean sounds for one hour.” Mr. G “You have to go somewhere?”
Cole plays music, Mr. G says “Not funny.”
“Seventh grade are all five, five musketeers.”
“We are 15 already which means someone else is here”
“So far, I am boxing you.”
“Herrings are little fish that Russians love, not Ukranians.”
“In Zambia there are potholes in the road. So I would fill them in with gravel. Now we are going to do that with your knowledge.”
“Cinderella had to get peas from sand. And she shook the blanket. Use BUCK.” (He often tells us to shake our heads)
“Please guys, open your faces.”
“You are like little red riding hood: lost.”
“To my surprise, it is time to start.”
“Now it is time to collect stones.”
“What will you do in Europe?”
“I don't like that it’s excluded, because 2 will feel excluded.”
“Infinite algebra 1”
“I am back to discuss with you our problems.”
“What is secret about? You are canceling.”
“It’s like I am merging to highway.”
“Welcome to Ukraine, my friends.”
“I have plans for you, but you will always change plans.”
“Wow, it’s attacking me from all sides! Zina in the kitchen...”
“It's like avalanche or cabbage growing, I hope paper cabbage is still growing full of your energy.”
“Be cute enough to see.”
“Give me volume! Volume, volume, volume, volume, volume!”
“I wasn’t running with you… you know, fast?”
“Three trees doesn’t make woods.” (But in Chinese two do, just saying)
“So far you are free.”
“Is there anyone falling apart, under the table, please come out. I see you.”
“What should I say now? That it is too much work, sorry.”
“The last is seesaw problem. I am joking, I don’t know if I will show you today seesaw.”
“And I will be watching you now.”
“Do you want to talk about life? We are talking about life.”
"Don't touch 7th graders, they are like a hive of bees, you never know, they will bite you."
“You are late for the date with Mr. G.”
“Someone wants to join, no.”
“Someone is just troubling us.”
“Someone is just breaking my computer.”
“There is no problem, it is my invention.”
I will miss his class a lot.

Brotherhood
In a darkened arena in Vale's largest stadium, silence filled the air. A very deathly silence, one unlike anything any wrestling event had ever seen with the exception of the recent events in World Wrestling Entertainment and All Elite Wrestling with Raw, Smackdown, NXT, and AEW Dynamite being aired with no live audience. The world the two rival companies come from had been dealing with a crisis situation, and their wrestlers performed in empty arenas devoid of any crowd reactions except for if wrestlers sat in the front row and pitched in their reactions. It was eerie, it was strange...
It just wasn't right.
"Ladies and gentlemen... we come to you live from VCW's home, right here in Vale," The VCW Heavyweight Champion, Ryder Argent said into the camera and into the silence of the arena, "I know this is a really strange way for someone to make their debut, but to start our special six-hour long show, please give a warm welcome to our new color commentator and ring announcer, Jace Reznor, accompanied by his daughter and one of my closest friends, Ebony."
No music played in the arena. No video on the tron. Just silence as Jace and Ebony made theif way out of the back and down the stage, and into the ring. He was dressed casually, wearing his usual casual outfit. Blue jeans, his black boots, and a black button-up shirt open to show a VCW shirt while Ebony wore her Purple Heart outfit, just without her armor. When making their way into the ring, Jace grabbed himself a microphone, and he stood next to Ryder as Ebony stood behind them.
"So... hi," Jace greeted everyone watching at home, "You guys around Remnant all know me as the Angel of Justice, and more importantly here, the father of the Archangel. We'll cut right to the point of this and of my weird debut here... But first we'd like to include two very special guests."
Ryder stretched his arm out toward the back in a showing motion. "Everyone please welcome... The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes."
Just like Jace, Cody came down to the ring from the back to complete silence, wearing a great looking tan suit. He stopped on the stage and looked around the arena, and took a deep breath before walking down toward the ring. Just recently, he and The Elite had come to this arena to beat down the invading Inner Circle, and now he was there for a completely different reason. He stepped into the ring with the others after grabbing his own microphone, and he shook hands with everyone there in the ring.
Jace raised his microphone to his lips. "And now, please welcome The King of Kings, Triple H."
And just the same, The Game himself walked out from the back and down the ramp, wearing a black suit with an NXT pin on the collar. He looked around and just felt the silence around him, and he gave a pained grin. "It never gets easier..." He said, and it was clearly heard by the others in the ring. He gave a look toward Cody, who was looking back at him, and gave a small nod before entering the ring with them all, shaking everyone's hands, even Cody's.
"Welcome to VCW, guys," Ryder said to the two, "Jace, the floor is yours."
Jace took a deep breath through his nose and let it out evenly. "These two men from AEW and WWE came here at Ryder's request. The shape their world is in is... bad right now to say the least. Everything is slowly going on lockdown, and their companies and their immensely talented wrestlers have been working in front of empty crowds for the last few weeks. Their world is in a lot of strife. Ryder and I both know strife. We... we both know how it feels to have an uncertain future. We didn't know if we could ever trust tomorrow again, and now the people that live where these two are from are experiencing the same feeling."
Ryder nodded slowly at everything Jace said and sighed. "The wrestlers of WWE and AEW have been pouring their hearts out in the middle of their respective rings in front of no one for the last few weeks, and we don't know how long it will have to last like that, and it pains us here at VCW to see. They do that to provide live entertainment to their fans to help them have some kind of escape from what's going on in their world. That takes such a level of dedication that I just can't describe."
"So like how Ryder and my papa have been accepted into new families of their own, we wanna offer that to both AEW and WWE," Ebony said after lightly taking Jace's microphone, and she smiled her usual, bright, cheerful smile into the camera, "Because... no matter what and no matter what two companies feel about each other, pro wrestling is a big family."
She handed the microphone back to Jace and he nodded in agreement. "Exactly. We at VCW open our doors and formally welcome WWE and AEW to book their shows here in Vale and take their own styles and their stories all over Remnant to Mistral, Vacuo, and Atlas. We welcome them all with open arms. We welcome guys and girls like Jon Moxley, Keith Lee, Kenny Omega, Drew McIntyre, The Lucha Brothers, The Revival, The Young Bucks, New Day, Kris Statlander, Alexa Bliss, Brit Baker, Rhea Ripley, Riho, Asuka, freaking everyone in these companies!"
Jace felt himself shaking a bit after naming off all those talented people, and he took another deep breath. "Bad blood be damned, pro wrestlers deserve to do what they love to do in front of a crowd," Ryder took over for Jace and put his hand on the older Huntsman's shoulder, "We do what we do to make fans rise out of their seats and cheer, or boo, or whatever, and now with this relationship, the men and women of AEW and WWE can do just that. We know scheduling will be a pain for four shows a week, but damn it we're gonna a pull it off for our fans, and their fans back home. Guys, you're both free to talk now." Ryder finished and both he and Jace stepped aside, and Cody and Triple H stepped forward.
Cody spoke first. "I have to say... I'm humbled and honored to have been offered this relationship with VCW. When we in the Elite fended off the Inner Circle, we all felt something special in the air here. We all miss the roar of the crowd, and we miss seeing the smiles on our fans' faces. I know I left WWE on bad terms. It's no secret. But this is bigger than that, bigger than any grudge we have with each other whether it be what I've done after I left to my family name. Ebony here said it best. Professional wrestling is a family. Families squabble and fight, but when it comes down to it, we unite."
"I couldn't have said it better myself, Cody," Triple H spoke up next, and he looked around the arena, "You see, all of what we do is for our fans. We do our best, even if some... questionable things slip out. These days are uncertain for us all, but one thing that is certain is that all wrestlers are part of a brotherhood no matter where they're from. And now, VCW offered their hands in our time of need, and Cody and I pushed all our personal feelings with each other aside, and buried the hatchet so we can provide you, the fans around our world a way to escape reality just for a little bit. Now, we hope to do the same for not only our world via a bunch of technical crap that would take years to explain," He chuckled and grinned, "but to your world too."
"I have to say, this is extremely surreal," Ryder said and looked between Triple H and Cody, "Seeing you two in the same ring, in a VCW ring, and this relationship with our three companies is just... history."
Both Hunter and Cody nodded in agreement. "There isn't any denying that." Cody said.
"This is quite possibly the biggest thing in pro wrestling history right now," Hunter added, and he laughed again, "Maybe even bigger than Wrestlemania."
"So everyone..." Ebony stepped into the middle of the ring between everyone after getting her own mic, "I think there's been enough talk, right? I think our fans are getting restless~"
Slowly, the lights started to come on and even more slowly, cheering began to build and build until the all the lights were on to show the jam-packed arena. It had taken an extreme amount of restraint from the crowd to stay quiet during the opening segment, but now they were roaring, all of them a part of history. Both Cody and Triple H started smiling at hearing all the dueling chants of "WWE", "NXT", "AEW" and "VCW". It was something they both missed and they shared a look with each other before getting on opposite turnbuckles to get the crowd roaring even louder.
"Damn I've missed this!" Cody exclaimed into his microphone, "Come on, everyone! I can't hear you!"
The crowd somehow got even louder after that and both men just relished in the noise. "You guys have no idea how much we've all missed hearing this each and every night!" Hunter said to them all, "This is like music to my ears, and I know all the guys and girls in the back can't wait to come out here to perform in front of you all!"
"That's right, everyone!" Ryder said to the crowd, and he gave a huge grin as Ebony hugged both Triple H and Cody, welcoming them to the VCW family, "For tonight only, this is a VCW, WWE, and AEW Supershow with matches featuring wrestlers from all our companies! And we offer the same to any other wrestling companies on Earth small or large that need a place to showcase their talent! Jace, take it away!"
"With pleasure, Ryder," Jace said and stood in the middle of the ring while the others except for Ryder exited, who took off his clothes to reveal his ring gear, "The following is a Fatal Four Way, champion vs champion match! Already in the ring first is your VCW Heavyweight Champion, The One-Winged Angel, Ryder Argent!"
Jace started grinning even more. "And your next competitor..."
"Shock... the system..."
"Making his way to the ring next... is the NXT Champion, Adam Cole!" Jace exclaimed and the crowd lost their minds when Cole's entrance music sounded over the PA system, signaling the arrival of the leader of the Undisputed Era into the VCW arena...

AEW Double Or Nothing Predictions
Ah, the first show for AEW, possibly the savior of the American wrestling business. I really hope that the company succeeds, and judging by this card, I really think that they will. It is a stacked show, and I cannot wait to see it. Even with only one title match, it looks super good. Lets get into the predictions.
Lets start with the Casino Battle Royal. There are 21 people in the match, which is unlike other battle royals. Every 5 minutes, a group of five Wrestlers enters the match. At the end, one lone wrestler, probably a surprise, enters as the last man. A couple big names are in this one, such as MJF, Brandon Cutler, Joey Janela, Billy Gunn, Jimmy Havoc, Jungle Boy and Shawn Spears (was Tye Dillinger in WWE). There are a lot of guys in this match, and it feels like that lucky number 21 will win, but I am going to predict Joey Janela for this match. His star is just about peaking, and I think they need to capitalize on that. Whoever wins the match gets a shot at the future AEW world championship, and I think Janela would be a good challenger.
In a singles match on the pre show, Kip Sabian takes on Sammy Guevara in a singles match. Not much of a story here, so I’m gonna guess that Guevara wins here.
Then we have  Aja Kong, Yuka Sakazaki, and Emi Sakura vs. Hikaru Shida, Riho, and Ryo Mizunami. I don’t really know much about these ladies, AEW will probably be my first exposure to them, but I am going to go with Aja Kong’s team because I have heard of her.
Another 6 person tag, SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Scorpio Sky and Frankie Kazarian) takes on StrongHearts (CIMA, T-Hawk, and El Lindaman.) This is a simple introduction to the partnership between OWE and AEW, so I think that Stronghearts are going to win here to put them over.
A three way women’s match is next, Britt Baker vs. Nyla Rose vs. Kylie Rae. Not much story here other than some problems between Rose and Rae, but once again, I don’t know anyone in the match too well. I am gonna go with Baker because she is dating Adam Cole, so I kinda know her I guess.
A tag match is next, The Best Friends vs. Angelico & Jack Evans. This was a match that Trent begged for, and he is finally getting it. I think that Angelico and Evans will win here, to continue to highlight the problems between Baretta and Taylor. Plus, Angelico hasn’t been in a major promotion since he left Lucha Underground, so it’ll be exciting to see him again.
So, this next one is weird. Adam Page was supposed to have a match against Pac, but Pac refused recently because he did not want to lose. Now, I think there is a good reason for that given that he is the Open the Dream Gate Champion in Dragon Gate, which is their top championship and he is taking it seriously. So, they are having a match elsewhere, one that will end in a non-finish, but that leaves Page without a match.  I think he will have something, so I am just gonna say that he wins whatever match he ends up being booked in.
Next up we have Cody vs. Dustin, the battle of the brothers. Dustin was Goldust in WWE, but he recently left and joined AEW. Cody is claiming that this win will finally kill the attitude era. So, there are two ways to look at this. Either “the attitude era is good,” where Dustin will win because Cody is being a dickish heel, or “attitude era represents WWE’s victory,” where Cody will win to establish the company. Given that I have had the actual elite losing most of their matches on this card, I am going to say that Cody will win and really cement themselves as a competitor to WWE on this bigger market.
Then a huge rematch between Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega. They had a huge brawl over the IWGP United States Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 12, and since then have come to blows a few more times. Notably, Jericho attacked Omega at All In, and Omega beat Jericho in a 6-man tag on his own cruise last year. They have come to blows in an indie promotion over the past few weeks, and this is looking like it’ll be a great match. However, it is easy to predict. Jericho recently announced himself as Okada’s latest challenger for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, so he can’t lose here. Jericho goes over, leaving nothing but a rubber match between the two.
And in the main event (probably), The Young Bucks vs. The Lucha Bros for the AAA World Tag Team Championships. These teams have a lot of history, from PWG to the Crash and tons of other promotions, but this story is simple. The Lucha Bros attacked The Young Bucks after they signed their AEW contracts. They had another confrontation at an AAW show a while later, and the final nail in the coffin happened when the Young Bucks challgned the Lucha Bros for the AAA World Tag Team Championships that the Lucha Bros won only minutes before. The Young Bucks won, and are the reigning champs, so this is a rematch. I am most looking forward to this match, because I absolutely love both teams, and I think that the Young Bucks are gonna win here. Them holding AAA’s tag team championships is a symbol of the working relationship, so I think that makes sense. I will be rooting for Fenix and Pentagon Jr on the night, but I don’t think they can pull it off.
So, that is the card. Unfortunately I will not be able to watch live, I am going away for Memorial Day weekend, but I will get the review up no matter how late it is. This is a huge event for the wrestling world at large, and I am very excited.

Final Battle preview
Jay Lethal vs. Cody Rhodes - Lethal is defending the Ring of Honor world championship.  Cody is the current IWGP United States champion, but that title is not at stake.
Cody’s contract with ROH has reportedly expired, and it’s looking more and more like he will leave ROH altogether to participate in the new All Elite Wrestling venture.  So this is likely to be his final big ROH show, where he does the job to the champion on his way out.  Then again, there could be a swerve, where Cody and ROH secretly work out a short-term agreement and he wins the title to confuse fans who’ve been following that story.
Lethal is sort of ROH’s franchise guy, in the sense that he’s been a headliner during a period where all the other headliners have been leaving the company.  It’s a tough spot for him--he doesn’t give me that tippy-toppy guy feel, because I can’t shake the feeling that he’s only at that level because everyone better than him is gone.  Perhaps Cody can help by giving him the rub here, but he’s really the last star left to do that.  In 2019 Lethal is going to be king of a mountain that feels smaller than it did when he returned to ROH in 2011.
I think it’s at least possible that Cody could surprise us all with a title win.  But in the long run, the destination is Jay Lethal vs. Matt Taven, and since Taven is doing the “real world champion” gimmick Lethal should be the actual champion headed into that feud.  So I’m picking Lethal to retain.
Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky vs. Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson vs. Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe - Kazarian and Sky (two thirds of SoCal Uncensored) are defending the ROH tag team championship in a three-way ladder match.  The title belts will be hung above the ring and the first team to retrieve them will be the winners and champions; ladders will be provided at ringside for the participants to use however they see fit.
Like Cody, the Young Bucks (Nick and Matt) are expected to be on their way out of ROH, and this match feels like their swan song.  In a story that hasn’t gotten as much attention, tough, SCU’s Kazarian and Christopher Daniels have also not re-signed with ROH, and they could be on their way out as well.  (I can’t find anything on Scorpio’s status.)  So aside from the fact these three teams have been feuding over the tag title for months, this may be the last chance to see any combination of them in the ring together.
ROH has generally protected the ladder match stip so that it feels more like a “this is the only way to settle it once and for all” deal, similar to cage matches and Texas death matches back in the old days.  Consequently, their ladder matches feel more climactic and important than those in other promotions, because you know the participants aren’t just going to rematch a month later.  So this is probably going to be a good time.  It may even be booked to close the show.
If I’m ROH, I want this match to put over the guys who are staying, and put them over hard.  The Bucks and SCU should be crumpled all over ringside while the Briscoes celebrate with the tag belts.  Kazarian and the Bucks should quickly vanish from television so the Briscoes can gloat about running them out of the company.  That’s how I’d do it, but ROH’s vision never seems to quite line up with mine...
Jeff Cobb vs. Adam Page - Cobb’s ROH television championship is on the line.  Page is--say it with me one more time--on his way out of the company with the rest of the Elite, so logically he should lose here.  These guys are both moving up the ladder quickly, so it ought to be fun to see them against one another.  But I would be very surprised if Page wins here.
Bully Ray vs. Flip Gordon - This is an “I quit” match, so there is only one rule in effect--once the match starts, it cannot end until the referee hears one participant verbally submit by saying “I quit.”  (Actually, ROH kinda already killed this stipulation by running an “i quit” match this week that ended as a no-contest due to outside interference.  I guess we’re supposed to act like this is WWE and pretend the bullshit TV finish can’t happen on the PPV.)
Bully Ray (best known as Bubba Ray Dudley in ECW and WWE) debuted in ROH in 2017 as a babyface veteran.  He dramatically “retired” in 2018 and was appointed to an enforcer role, but then he turned heel and mouthed off about all the flippy young guys ruining wrestling.  This concept has long since been done to death by WCW and TNA, but that didn’t stop ROH from giving it a go with Flip as the quintessential flippy young guy.  Bully has been getting heat on Flip for months, notably including a recent bit where Bully gave Flip a caning but Flip kept getting back up for more.
Flip is arguably the hottest babyface in ROH, and he almost certainly will be if/when the Elite and SCU leave.  The problem is that he’s the kind of white-meat babyface (like Ricky Steamboat, Tommy Dreamer, Daniel Bryan, and Johnny Gargano) where it’s so easy to get heel heat at his expense that the bookers lose sight of when it’s time for him to shine.  The caning angle perfectly sets up this match to blow off the feud, but it’s so perfect that they’re probably wondering if they can do it again, but even better.  For Flip to get anything out of this, he needs to win the feud and move on--he can’t just keep playing the lovable midcard loser getting bullied by heels forever.
This is the right time and place for Flip to take everything Bully can dish out, never quit, and then rally back to expose Bully as a coward and a quitter.  We’ll have to wait and see if ROH can figure that out.
Christopher Daniels vs. Marty Scurll - Scurll earned the right to challenge the ROH world champion in a match where he pinned Daniels to win, and now he’s putting that title shot at stake here.  Daniels is doing an angle where SCU is trying not to get kicked out of the company, and his teammates have the tag title to protect them, but he needs his own insurance.  Of course, in real life Daniels has not signed a new contract and it’s looking like he and Kazarian actually plan to leave soon.
Scurll, like the rest of the Elite, is expected to be departing ROH, but not on the same timetable.  He signed a short-term extension to keep him around through April, evidently to guarantee his participation in the April 6 Madison Square Garden show.  No one else from the Elite has signed such an extension, and I have to think ROH offered Scurll something good enough to sorta kinda break ranks.  I would not be surprised if they promised him a run with the world title and maybe even the world title match at MSG.  It’s pure speculation, but it would make sense.
Even if Daniels is on his way out and even if Scurll is earmarked for a title run, that doesn’t mean Scurll has to win this particular match.  But the safe bet is to pick the guy who’s staying over the guy who seems to be leaving.  And until we know more, that suggests Scurll wins.
Dalton Castle vs. Matt Taven - Taven is doing the old “real world champion” gimmick with an unsanctioned title belt, and he’s “defending” it here in this match.
A year ago, Castle won the world title and looked to be on track to be in the title picture throughout the 2018.  But various injuries caught up to him and he had to drop the belt to Jay Lethal in June.  It’s still not clear if Castle is fully recovered, or if he’ll ever get back into contention for the title.  The outcome of this match may indicate if he’s being pushed back to the top or held back in a “struggle to get back to the top” storyline.
For a while, Taven was probably best known as that one guy from The Kingdom that isn’t Adam Cole or Mike Bennett/Kanellis.  Then he relaunched the stable, which felt a bit like Tully Blanchard trying to start his own Horsemen, but okay.  Then he lost his hair in the main event of CMLL’s anniversary show, which seems to have kicked off a renewed heel push for him.  With so many other guys leaving, Taven has a big opportunity to step up.  The outcome of this match may indicate if they’ll step him up sooner rather than later.
The fact Taven is putting his fake belt up for grabs before a program with the actual champion kind of telegraphs the finish.  I don’t seriously believe Castle is going to win Taven’s belt and feud with him over it in the undercard like Ted DiBiase’s million dollar championship.  The logical endgame for this gimmick is Taven challenging Lethal, so Taven needs this win to get there.
Sumie Sakai vs. Madison Rayne vs. Karen Q vs. Kelly Klein - Sakai is defending the Women of Honor championship in a four-way elimination match; the loser of each fall is eliminated from the match until the last participant left is the winner and champion.
I have to give ROH credit for establishing a women’s division, but they’ve got a long way to go to catch up with WWE, or even Impact.  I follow ROH pretty casually, but I can still work out all the major happenings with the men.  The women, however, feel like blank slates with no noticeable storylines or personas.  I kinda know Madison from Impact, and Sakai is clearly the aging veteran proving she’s still got it with a length title reign.  If the company is serious, they need to get to a point where I don’t have to ask who people like Karen Q and Kelly Klein are.  That may be difficult to do when they run like six big shows a year and maybe one women’s match on each of them.
At this point the safe bet is to pick Sakai.  She should put over the next big star for the division, but I don’t think ROH has any idea who that will be.
Zack Sabre, Jr. vs. Jonathan Gresham - Gresham declared he wanted to prove he’s the best technical wrestler today, and Sabre answered he challenge.  It feels like ROH is trying to elevate Gresham, but that doesn’t necessarily go as far as putting him over a key New Japan guy.  This could become one of those deals where Gresham is feted merely for losing a well-fought battle.  For Sabre this is just one last stop before arguably the biggest match of his career at Wrestle Kingdom, so it’s hard to imagine him losing here.
Kenny King vs. Eli Isom - This is set to be the opening match.  Kenny is so ageless--and perennially working his way up from the bottom of the card--that I keep forgetting he was the guy from Tough Enough season 2, where they went to South Africa and everybody talked about how he got laid.  Good for you, Kenny!  Anyway, he’s 37 now and he’s still around.  I’ve never heard of Isom and I’m pretty sure he’s just a jobber at this point.  I’m going with King to win.

Let’s make the dream card for AEW x NJPW ‘Forbidden Door’
Tumblr media
Here are the best matches for wrestling’s biggest supershow.
After months of speculation, rumor became reality. AEW owner Tony Khan announced on AEW Dynamite on Wednesday that the first supershow with his company and New Japan Pro Wrestling would take place on June 26 in the United Center.
AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door is unquestionably the biggest cross-promotional supershow of all-time. Shows like this have happened in the past, most notably in 2019 when Ring of Honor and NJPW sold out Madison Square Garden — but this is very, very different. RoH had bled a lot of talent at the time, making that supershow really a more New Japan-focused event with some RoH talent. This, on the other hand, is AEW at the peak of its popularity, and New Japan on the verge of launching its own offshoot brand in the United States.
It’s impossible to even begin to imagine some of the potential matches we’ll get, but I put my fantasy booking hat on to put together my absolute dream card for these two companies.
Champion vs. Champion “Hangman” Adam Page (c) vs. Kazuchika Okada (c)
A show like this needs a champion vs. champion match, and I think Hangman and Okada could tear the house down. It wouldn’t hurt Page at all to lose to someone like Okada, who is already being considered as one of the greatest wrestlers of this generation. I think the entire back-and-forth premise of these two champions both trying to hit their finishing lariats (the Buckshot and Rainmaker, respectively) makes for a great match.
Hangman showed he has stamina in his 60-minute epic against Bryan Danielson, and we all know Okada can go forever. These two would be poetry in the ring.
Champion vs. Champion Thunder Rosa vs. Syuri
I’m including the women from Stardom on this card, because I can’t imagine the supershow won’t have any women’s matches on it. I like the symmetry of two champ vs. champ matches, and it would be amazing exposure in the U.S. for Syuri, who some might remember from her brief stint in UFC. This makes sense, especially if New Japan want their sister promotion to grow more of a following in the west.
Jay White and the Undisputed Elite vs. The Golden Elite
Okay, okay ... I know this is pie in the sky thinking. I don’t care, this is my card. Can you imagine for a second what would happen if Kenny Omega AND Kota Ibushi returned from injury in Chicago and then reunited the Golden Lovers on the same night? The roof would blow off that building.
Everything is set up for this tenuous relationship between Adam Cole and The Young Bucks to boil over, and it’s here I’d set up a giant story arc of The Elite turning face and rallying against the Bullet Club and The Undisputed Elite. Forbidden Door would be the turning point for Omega to come back into the light after going to his darkest places since his “Cleaner” persona in New Japan, and the last time that happened it was Ibushi who was the catalyst.
Give me this match and I won’t ask for anything out of wrestling again.
FTR vs. G.O.D
Two of the best tag teams in the world give us one to remember. This is a really interesting time in story for both teams. FTR seem to be making a full face turn after parting ways with MJF and The Pinnacle, while G.O.D were recently kicked out of Bullet Club.
These four guys live and breathe tag team wrestling, and to my knowledge they’ve never met in the ring. I don’t think it hurts anyone to have either team win, and it could be the inroad to potentially see FTR go on a quest to collect more tag gold and set their sights on Great-O-Khan and Jeff Cobb, who currently hold the belts.
Sting vs. The Great Muta
AEW loves giving us blasts from the past, and nothing would press that nostalgia button like this. Sting and Muta last met at the 1991 supershow between WCW and NJPW, making this match one that’s been 30 years in the making. We don’t need this to be long, as both guys are really old, but damn would this be great to see.
Muta is currently under contract with NOAH, but I’m sure a deal could be done that would make this dream match happen.
NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship Blackpool Combat Club vs. House of Torture (c)
Here’s the one place on the card where I’d actually have a title on the line, and even see it change hands. William Regal’s Blackpool Combat Club is one of the most exciting new stables in wrestling, and putting Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson and Wheeler Yuta against the Bullet Club offshoot of EVIL, Yujiro Takahashi and Sho would be a banger.
BCC’s strong-style tendencies would fit perfectly as champions in New Japan, and the NEVER Openweight 6-Man titles would be a way to foray them into AEW finally introducing trios titles of their own, which we’ve all been waiting for.
PAC vs. Will Ospreay
Just let these two go. The only risk I see in putting PAC and Ospreay on a card this low is that they might steal the whole damn show and wear the crowd out. Two of the best high flyers in the world putting on a clinic would be a spectacle, GIF-filled match made for social media. I also think they’d have great chemistry in the ring.
Daniel Garcia vs. Zach Sabre Jr.
I’m so high on Daniel Garcia it’s not funny. I’ve haven’t seen a technical wrestler perform at his level, at his age since ... well, ZSJ. This would be a huge pace-change for the show where instead of strikes and big moves, we’re basically going to have two guys try to break each other’s limbs in a variety of ways we’ve never considered. I think this would be an amazing match.
C.M. Punk vs. Kenta
The battle of the GTS. This has been brewing for a while, and Kenta is calling out Punk on social media wanting this. Two guys who share the same finishing move (if we’re being technical, Punk took it from Kenta), trying to win by hitting it on each other. The crowd would be hot for this, and I think the two wrestlers could really build interest in this match on Twitter, as well as promos leading up to the event.
Sammy Guevara vs. El Desperado
This is another kind of champion vs. champion match, but we won’t call it that because the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title and TNT Championship don’t really align. Either way, here we’ve got two high flyers with Guevara being a future cornerstone of AEW up against an established, legendary cruiserweight in El Desperado.
Britt Baker vs. Saya Kamitani
Another chance to give some exposure to Stardom’s roster, I love the idea of putting Britt Baker and Saya Kamitani together. Britt is one of the best, most over women’s wrestlers on the planet, and Kamitani has a huge following as a former idol who was part of the group AKB48.
The Best Friends and Rocky Romero vs. Tetsuya Naito, Sanada, and Andrade El Idolo
I need Andrade El Idolo to get a better angle, because he’s dying on the vine for me in AEW. This whole money-based boss leader thing really isn’t doing it for me, and the best turn comes by way of a Los Ingobernables reunion.
We’ve already established CHAOS in New Japan with Trent Beretta and Rocky Romero reforming Rappongi Vice on several occasions, so this just continues the faction war — and allows the melding of these NJPW stables into AEW a little more. I think it would be a hell of a way to kick off the show, and reestablishing Andrade could be the boost he needs to push him into main event status.

Can Curzon rediscover their momentum?
Tameside Non-league Preview
CURZON ASHTON had a merry Christmas, taking four much-needed points from six. The question now is whether they can rediscover that form after a three-week break caused by the coronavirus.
They pick up the reins tomorrow (Saturday) when they visit Telford United in National League North. The game should have been played at home but a week of heavy rain and frost has damaged the Tameside Stadium pitch causing the match has been switched to the New Buck's Head.
"It's a shame we had the covid outbreak because we had played so well, especially against Bradford. We could have carried that momentum into the next games," said Nash manager Steve Cunningham.
"It's a tight division and all of a sudden we we're making some inroads into that cluster of clubs above us. That's why tomorrow is so important. If we make it back-to-back wins by beating Telford we'll go above them.
"We've got Southport on Tuesday and then Spennymoor. If we can take something from those matches we'll start moving up the table.
"Matches are coming thick and fast and there's a lot of football to be played. That emphasises the importance of the squad. There'll be game time for everyone."
Even though the covid cases have cleared up, the same can't be said for Cunningham's injury list. Marcus Poscha is fit again but Connor Hughes could be out for six weeks after breaking a foot in training. Dale Whitham remains sidelined too.
Although Telford have failed to win any of their last five National League North matches, losing four of them, Cunningham is expecting a tough game. He said: "We need to take something from them because they will start winning again. But hopefully not tomorrow.
Telford manager Gavin Cowan has demanded his players show some pride if they want to end the slump that has seen them fall to 17th place in the table.
He told the Shropshire Star: "When you've got pride and passion about what you do, you want to be successful. I want these players to be successful, but they've got to want that as well.
"If they can play like they did in the second half against Fylde I'm sure we're going to be all right. But that's on them. I can only give them the platform." Telford's squad includes two players recently signed from Radcliffe: striker Cole Hall and midfielder Simon Lenighan.
** Cunningham has also spoken about his deep disappointment that there is little prospect of supporters being allowed back into grounds before next season.
Taking part in big games against big clubs, and in front of big crowds, was one of the factors that motivated him to apply for the Curzon job last summer. He explained: "I wanted this opportunity for a long time. I wanted the full experience and so far I've not been able to get that.
"In a couple of weeks we'll be facing York City in the first match at their new LNER Community Stadium. In normal times the place would be packed to the rafters.
"I wanted to play at Chester in front of a full crowd, and at Kidderminster. The way things are I feel like I'm missing out.
"Fingers crossed everything will be back to normal next season when I'll have a bit more experience and knowledge of the National League."

2021 Nissan Kicks first drive review: More for your money
New Post has been published on https://appradab.com/2021-nissan-kicks-first-drive-review-more-for-your-money/
2021 Nissan Kicks first drive review: More for your money
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Nissan Kicks is an inexpensive vehicle, but it’s not cheap. Updated for 2021, this likable subcompact crossover offers loads of high-end features and plenty of interior space, all at a bargain-basement price.
This refreshed five-door benefits from more standard technology, some minor interior changes and, perhaps most significantly, enhanced exterior styling. New wheel designs are offered, plus SV and SR trims gain rear disc brakes. At both ends, the Kicks’ bumpers are reworked and there’s a new, much more rugged-looking grille that dispenses with the outgoing model’s cheeky cuteness. This vehicle’s new face is much hardier than before, more in line with the rest of Nissan’s utility-vehicle lineup. Top-shelf SR models also come with high-tech looking multireflector LED headlights.
Keeping things interesting, seven exterior paint colors are offered, including three new hues. The Kicks is also available with five two-tone combinations, including Electric Blue with a Super Black roof, which is what you see here. It’s a sharp-looking color scheme and I applaud Nissan for offering two-tone paintjobs on its vehicles.
This crossover’s interior is a no-nonsense affair, with a straightforward dashboard layout. The climate controls feel good and are simple to operate, plus both the front and rear seats are supportive and comfortably elevated so it doesn’t feel like you’re plopped on the floor. Yes, there’s a lot of hard plastic in the Kicks, but none of it is gross-looking or fragile. Its fuzzy headliner is about the only interior component that’s cheesy.
Gussying things up, the optional Premium Package includes attractive vinyl seating surfaces. Not only do they feel nice, they look good, too, accentuated with contrast-color stitching. Aside from that, this package also brings a heated steering wheel and heated front seats to the table, as well as an upscale Bose sound system with eight speakers, including some in the driver’s seat headrest. This is a solid offering and I love those headrest-mounted sound emitters. They really help provide an immersive listening experience.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite its affordability, the Kicks’ interior is sturdy, cheerful and spacious.
Craig Cole/Roadshow
Up front, a little more storage space would be nice as the center console is quite small, but there is a surprising amount of cargo room with the rear backrests up. Fold them down and you get a hell of a lot more junk-hauling space even if the load floor is far from flat.
Despite its small dimensions and affordable price, this Nissan comes standard with all kinds of useful technology including rear automatic braking, lane-departure warning and blind-spot monitoring. Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert and even automatic high beams are included at no extra cost as well. Handy satellite audio controls on the steering wheel and even Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are baked right into every single variant.
Beyond that standard equipment, my top-trim SR test model is fitted with some premium features, like express up and down front windows, keyless entry with push-button start, automatic brake hold and adaptive cruise control. (Unfortunately, Nissan’s excellent ProPilot Assist adaptive cruise with lane centering is not offered.) It even has a great 360-degree camera system that’s better than what you get in many much-more-expensive Toyotas these days, and it has one roof-mounted grab handle at each outboard seating position. This last item may not sound important, but it’s a nice touch, especially in a low-cost vehicle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s not very potent, but at least this 1.6-liter engine is efficient.
Craig Cole/Roadshow
As for speeds and feeds, the Base S model comes with a 7-inch touchscreen display, but the SV and SR variants feature a slightly more expansive 8-incher. This panel is home to an infotainment system that’s merely adequate. Visually, it looks pretty outdated, but it gets the job done, plus, if you’re going to use CarPlay or Android Auto, it doesn’t really matter. Just plug your phone into one of the three standard USB type-A ports (a type-C outlet is offered in SV and SR models) and don’t look back. SV and SR models also come with a handy driver-information center in the instrument cluster. With a 7-inch screen, it’s easy to read and child’s play to reconfigure. The available Premium Package mentioned earlier also adds a few high-tech goodies, including over-the-air updates for the head unit and an in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot.
Nestled behind the Kicks’ more-aggressive grille is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. With such small displacement and no forced induction, it is, not surprisingly, rather anemic. Horsepower measures 122 while torque clocks in at just 114 pound-feet, probably about as much as you get in low gear on a Huffy bike. As before, a continuously variable transmission sends those goods exclusively to the front tires since all-wheel drive is not offered.
Relatively smooth and quiet, this engine is nonetheless overmatched. Yes, it gets the job done, that CVT maximizing its meager output, but never does it make the Kicks feel agile or responsive. Merging and passing maneuvers need to be planned well in advance — or avoided altogether — as there’s precious little performance in reserve. But hey, what this scrappy crossover lacks in outright giddy-up is more than made up for in efficiency. The Kicks should return 31 miles per gallon in the city and 36 mpg on highway drives. Expect 33 mpg combined, a figure I had no trouble matching in real-world testing.
This Nissan’s ride quality is reasonably refined, though don’t expect it to absorb and digest bumps like a Rolls-Royce. Impact harshness is low and the suspension irons out much of the road’s grittiness, though the ride can be a little bit choppy at times, likely because of the short, 103.1-inch wheelbase.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You could do a lot worse than the Nissan Kicks… like buying a Ford EcoSport, for instance.
Craig Cole/Roadshow
Toss the Kicks into a corner and it responds with a bit more body roll than I’m used to these days. It’s not frightening, but it does occasionally feel tippy. Unfortunately, the steering is too light and totally synthesized.
But the refreshed Kicks is once again a great value. The base S model starts at $20,595, including $1,095 in delivery fees. That’s an increase of just 430 bucks compared to a similar 2020 version. Full pricing will be announced closer to its on-sale date, which is expected to be in February, though even a loaded-up SR variant should be extremely affordable, likely topping out in the mid-20s.
While far from a driver’s vehicle, the Nissan Kicks still impresses thanks to its generous standard equipment, available tech and generally pleasant interior. If you’re shopping for a subcompact crossover like the Honda HR-V, Toyota C-HR or Chevy Trax, check out the Kicks, it might just surprise you.

Jennifer Hudson Delivers The Powerful Kobe Bryant Tribute You Knew She Would At The 2020 NBA All-Star Game + Chaka Khan Gets Dragged For National Anthem Performance
Tumblr media
Jennifer Hudson served up a powerful performance to pay tribute to NBA legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna Bryant and the seven other victims to kick off the 2020 NBA All-Star Game. Chaka Khan performed the National Anthem and is being dragged on social media over it. Get it all inside…
Celebs and athletes jetted to Chicago to party it up for the 2020 NBA All-Star Game festivities.
Last night, Jennifer Hudson was tapped to kick off the 2020 NBA Att-Star Game at the Chicago’s United Center with a special tribute to NBA icon Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant and the seven other victims - John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Alyssa Altobelli, Sarah Chester, Payton Chester, Ara Zobayan, and Christina Mause – who lost their lives in a tragic helicopter crash on January 26th.
The Oscar/Grammy Award winner flexed her vocals for a rendition of Donny Hathaway’s classic hit “For All We Know (We May Meet Again)” as pictures of Kobe and Gianna were displayed behind her.

Soulful songstress Chaka Khan was tapped to perform “The Star Spangled Banner” before the NBA All-Star Game, which you can check out above. Chaka put her own spin on the National Anthem, sort of like how Fergie did in 2018. However, folks weren't feeling it.
Here's her performance:

Everybody, Chaka Khan is a soulful singer and she did the Star Spangled Banner, her way, tonight. There’s no perfect way to sing it.
There’s other people in this world who have different voices. Don’t be judging how people should sing and act. Leave Chaka be, now!

I don’t care what you think of Chaka Khan’s national anthem, you WILL show respect because she is LITERALLY CHAKA KHAN.
Pitch perfect. Tones? Hit. I? Conic. No slander for QUEEN OF FUNK in this house. We aren’t gonna cannibalise our legends while they’re here, who raised yall?

In honor of Kobe Bryant, the All-Star Game was reworked to honor the fallen NBA player. MSN reports:
Instead of the usual time limit, when scores are tallied up in the fourth quarter, a target score will be set, which each team has to reach in order to win. In a nod to the number Bryant wore for the latter half of his career with the Los Angeles Lakers, 24 points will be added to the winning score in order to determine the target.
The two teams this year are led by captains LeBron James of the Lakers and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.
Both teams will also be wearing jerseys that commemorate Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter. All members of Team LeBron will wear No. 2 on their jerseys, in memory of Gianna, who played with the number as a member of the Mamba Sports Academy. Meanwhile, Team Giannis players will wear No. 24.
To pay tribute to the other victims, both teams will wear patches with nine stars to represent all who were lost in the crash, including John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Alyssa Altobelli, Sarah Chester, Payton Chester, Christina Mauser and pilot Ara Zobayan.
Nice!

Another Bitcoin Death, Or Just Another Day in Crypto Markets
There have been countless red Fridays over the past few years and bitcoin has died countless times according to mainstream media. Today is looking pretty grim with a $10 billion slump in total crypto market capitalization and BTC plunging through support … but we’ve seen it all before.
Another Bitcoin Obituary
Every year since the inception of bitcoin it has died if the mainstream media is to be believed. A sharp decline in price sends out waves of irrational panic as day traders and those looking for a quick buck scrap their satoshis en masse.
Investors on twitter such as Stephen Cole were quick to point out that there is no real need to panic as this has all happened before … more than once.
So that's the end of Bitcoin then -Forbes 2011, $15
Bitcoin headed to the ash heap -USA Today 2015, $208
RIP Bitcoin, time to move on -WaPo 2016, $382
Stay away from Bitcoin. It's garbage -MarketWatch 2017, $2345
Is Bitcoin going to zero? -Forbes 2018, $3432
Today, $7500: https://t.co/Dse1RbZLYP
— Stephen Cole (@sthenc) November 21, 2019
Each time bitcoin has died, its price has been higher with today’s ‘death’ holding at $7,500. In 2018 Forbes, which often gets things completely misconstrued regarding crypto, said that it was going to zero when priced at $3,400.
What actually happened over the next six months was an epic 300% bitcoin surge to just under $14k. Today it is down by half and the death calls are being heard again. The fact that people are hodling is enough to prevent the asset from dying at all as Cole observed;
“Hoarding bitcoin is arguably the most important use case. The more people hoard, the faster we get to a market cap in the trillions, making BTC less volatile and more practical as a unit of account.”
Serial bitcoin bashers such as Peter Schiff are jumping with delight as the asset plunged 4.5% overnight. Either to get attention or just out of obliviousness of how crypto markets work (hint, not the same as gold markets), his latest tirade printed a death down to $1,000.
According to 99bitcoins.com, the digital asset has died a total of 377 times to date and that number is likely to increase following this week’s rout.
BTC Halving Revival
All is not lost, despite the BTC fear and greed index dipping into ‘extreme fear’ today. There is still the notion that huge pullbacks are common before halving events and the timing is about right for this one. Buyers want to get BTC at a premium and that level appears to be in the $6k range at the moment.
Trader and analyst ‘Rekt Capital’ is confident that there will be a larger rally before next year’s halving;
“Bitcoin tends to retrace strongly a few months prior to its Halving. These retraces tend to be the 1st major correction in a new $BTC Bull Market”

Either way, the doom merchants and detractors will be rejoicing while those that have seen it all before will be buying the dip.

Insolence, Pt. 1 [Adam Cole]
So, here is my first wrestling fan fiction on Tumblr.
Let me know what you guys think!
Title: Insolence, Part One of ?
Characters: Adam Cole/OC(Brenna, because it’s easier for me to write with names in stories)
Genre: Angst-y?
Length: ~2,600 words
Warnings: Cursing, mention of death
Summary: You had a good life, with good friends, and happiness. Then things changed. You’re trying to rebuild your happiness, but it’s not going how you want it to.
You started your wrestling career in California, with promotions ranging from APW, which many didn’t even know about, to PWG, where you currently still ran around when possible. You had found your way out of California, to the mid-west and east coast, settling in to matches with AIW and DREAMWAVE and Beyond, among others. And that had led you to ROH, as a regular, as well. You were one of the in-ring announcers, and one of the first to demand a match when the opportunity arose.
Indy wrestling was the world you lived and breathed.
You’d made best friends along the way, such as Colt Cabana and Candice LeRae, Chuck Taylor and the Briscoes. And you’d made other close friends, and just friends in general. It was hard to be on the road with the same people and not become some type of weird-hybrid-friend-family. It was obvious that each other were all you had sometimes, and everyone found someone to be with while away from their loved ones.
You had a way of meeting people, and getting to know them where they were at. You knew better than to expect everyone to be the same, and you expected flaws and mistakes as happily as you accepted changes and successes. What mattered to you was what was at the core of a person; their heart and soul. If they had good intentions, but bad execution, you had no issue helping them figure out how to show the world their true objectives. You tried to be helpful without being intrusive or overbearing.
Having been around the wrestling community for a number of years, and being open to learning everything and anything from anyone who offered, you had a good head on your shoulders. You learned from your mistakes, and the mistakes you saw others make. You had sharpened your ability to think situations through before they happened; looking ahead was a big part of your personality. You liked to envision the pros and cons, the different paths choices could take you, and all the outcomes that could happen.
It was all of this that made it no surprise many found their way to you for advice and support, and a shoulder to cry on and a brain to pick. It was no wonder many called you “momma bear” on the road either.
And then things…changed.
You had been happily in a long-term relationship with your fiancé, Evan, since high school. He was the home you went to when you weren’t wrapped up in wrestling. He loved you, supported your wild dreams, and refused to let you settle for anything but your best. He was your best friend, your partner, your teammate. You learned how to share yourself with someone else because of him, and learned how to care for others because of him. When nothing else made sense, when your body hurt, and your brain had a million thoughts…he was peace.
So when he died, the result of a late night car accident where the other driver had one too many drinks and thought themselves invincible, everything stopped making sense. 9 years together, and he was gone. Just like that.
While you believed yourself a strong, independent woman, you realized very quickly that the partnership you had with Evan was what kept you stable in life. Yes, you could keep yourself alive, but he helped to keep you sane and sensible. He had been what you were to so many others on the road. He had been your sounding board, your secret keeper, and without him, you felt as though every feeling and thought and worry was just stuck inside of you.
Your friends tried, bless them, to fill his role.
Candice texted daily, even if it was just a cute picture of an otter or an invitation for a Disney songs Facetime singalong. She redid your makeup after ugly crying had washed it clean away. Chuck Taylor offered to get absolutely shit canned with you, more than once, and you, more than once, took him up on the offer. You knew there was laughter shared with him, but it was always blurry in the hangover the next day. Colt was quick for a joke, and just as quick to see through your smoke screen of a grieving-but-ok-widow. He was more apt to let you come to him with your worries and concerns though. Patience, surprisingly, was a strong suit of Colt Cabana.
Jay Briscoe…he wasn’t that way. He saw through your “bullshit”, as he said, and called you out on it regularly. Jay didn’t allow you to wallow and hide; he forced you to say your worst feelings and fears and thoughts to him. He had tough love down to a science, playing the big brother role to perfection. While you hated him for it sometimes, you also knew he was doing it because he cared. Because he saw you holding everything in, and it worried him what that would do to you. He was a friend that wasn’t going to let you slip away.
Which brought you to Adam Cole.
You had been friends many years, sharing many of the same locker rooms and sometimes rings together. The two of you had been in friend groups together before, grabbing food before the show or a beer after. You’d had conversations, sharing similar likes in some music, movies, and video games. He was by no means your best friend, but he was a good friend all the same. He was higher up on the list of people you’d hang out with on the road than most.
You had been involved in the infamous Guerilla Warefare match, which saw you, Candice, Joey Ryan, and Chris Hero taking on Adam, Roderick Strong, and the Young Bucks at PWG. While Candice had taken a thumbtack shoe to the face, which was rightfully so the biggest moment of the match, you had taken multiple big moves from Adam, including being thrown in to the crowd’s chairs as while as a piledriver on the ring apron. You had put your life in his hands, and he had delivered in all the right ways. You remembered being on such a high after that match. So had he.
But after Evan died, and through the ensuing months, Adam had pulled away.
At first you hadn’t really noticed, too involved in your grief, and trying to simply exist day to day. He had attended the funeral, having been a friend of Evan’s in the way all in the wrestling family had been. Evan had been at numerous shows over the years, and had been a part of many post-show beer outings, conversing with Adam on his own. It made sense then that Adam had sent you a couple texts, checking on you, though they tapered off quickly.
When you returned to the locker room a few months after the fact, while others had given you generic condolences or more personalized comments, Adam was just…there. He stood to the side while you were swept up in to separate hugs by each of the Young Bucks, each gently squeezing you to tell you they were happy to see you. Adam had just given you a brief smile, a quiet “good to see you”, before walking off.
He stayed distant after that. You worried that maybe you were giving off negative vibes. You had been hyper aware that coming back would be awkward for all involved. There was no handbook on how to handle the death of a friend or a coworker’s significant other, especially for wrestlers. You had played the “momma bear” role so well for so many years, and now you were the one in need of “mothering”, so to speak. No one had wanted to burden you with their issues knowing what yours were.
So you had taken all of the advice Jay had given you, about moving forward no matter how much it hurt, and trying to find the good in each day, to heart. You thought you were showing everyone you were going to be OK, and they didn’t need to tread on eggshells around you. You tried to remember to smile, to let yourself laugh. You were also learning to allow yourself to be the one who did need the mothering, and letting your emotions out to those you trusted most. You thought you were showing that you were getting on with life, in a good way.
Adam continued to be around but aloof though, so maybe you were wrong?
Except, it became clear the more shows you were back at that, you weren’t wrong. You were actually doing OK. As time passed, you were faking your inner-peace and strength less and less. You were genuinely beginning to move forward, allowing Evan’s death to be a part of you but not a controlling entity. Your laughter was real, and loud as ever. The locker room settled back in to a routine; jokes were shared, plans were made, and the unit seemed cohesive again. Life seemed to be settling back down in to some semblance of contentment.
So then why did Adam continue to keep you at arm’s length? It confused you, definitely. But it also irritated the hell out of you. Because he was no longer just quietly away from you, he had progressed to downright blatantly avoiding you.
More than once you had come in to a room, joined a group and conversation he was a part of, only for him to find an excuse to leave within minutes. He wasn’t even subtle about it. Adam was always a cocky bastard, sure, but he had never been so outwardly rude to you before. When he saw you in the hallways, he’d give you a blank stare, and often times change direction. The more this went on, the more it hurt. He no longer seemed just unsure what to say; he seemed like he didn’t want to talk to you at all. Like you had angered him, or hurt him, in some way.
You had become so fed up after one particular instance, where Adam had practically sneered at you asking Jay Lethal a question in front of him, that you had confronted one of his best friends Matt Jackson on the matter. Your gut wanted to confront Adam, but given his behavior, you figured you would get a blank stare and no answer. So his closest friend seemed a better route.
“You gotta ask him, girlie. I don’t even know,” was Matt’s response however, giving you a look that could have been sympathetic or annoyed, you weren’t sure, before walking off.
So after five months of being back, nine since Evan’s death, you had hit your breaking point. It wasn’t as though Adam and you had a huge falling out, or your friendship had just naturally, slowly come to a halt. He was still just as present, still just as involved with the same people you were, but only not involved with you, by his own obvious choice. You had no idea what you’d done to cause his behaviors, and it bothered you. You were not someone who liked actions without explanations.
It was after a match with Taeler, where the girl, try as she could, had botched multiple moves and genuinely risked your own well-being, that you finally exploded. You were in a corner of the arena, sitting on a table, holding an ice pack to the back of your neck, hating that you were on the verge of tears, when you saw him walking by. He was in jeans, a black pullover hoodie snug on his body, his hair tied in a low bun at the back of his neck.
If anyone asked you why you did it, you wouldn’t be able to give them a straight answer, but you removed the ice pack from your neck and with surprisingly good aim, hurled it at him, hitting him square in the lower back. Your anger had apparently put some speed on the projectile, because he visibly jolted at the impact, reaching around to put his hand where the object hit him to soothe the spot. Adam spun on his heels, looking around confused and quickly, trying to figure out what had hit him, how and why.
“What the hell?! …Brenna??” He looked confused, and angry, and also flinched slightly in pain when he took a step closer to you. You got some type of satisfaction from that.
“Fuck you, Adam Cole,” you declared angrily, sliding off the table you had been sitting on, advancing towards him. He appeared caught-off guard, not necessarily threatened by your approaching frame, but worried all the same.
“What the hell? What did you just throw at me? WHY did you fucking throw something at me?!”
“Because you’re a dick,” you declared. “I have done NOTHING to you, and you treat me like shit. And I’m tired of it! If you hate me, or whatever, fine, be that way. But at least fucking tell me what I did before brushing me away like I’m nothing. We were friends at one point, I thought.”
“What the FUCK are you going on about?” He retorted, his eyes narrowing slightly. “Did Taeler hit you a little too hard?”
“Don’t act ignorant,” you demanded. “Ever since I’ve been back, you’ve wanted nothing to do with me. I come in a room, you find a reason to leave. You basically refuse to talk to me, let alone be around me. Did you think I wouldn’t notice?” You squeezed your hands in fists at your sides, trying to keep the anger flowing, and the tears not. “Just fucking tell me why. Why can’t you even look at me anymore?”
“I’m looking at you right now, darlin’. And all I can see is you’ve lost your damn mind,” Adam stated, his tone dismissive, the cocky bastard side of him clearly now in conrol.
“FUCK. YOU,” you snarled, your voice echoing off the concrete walls.
“Hey, whoa, whoa, girlie,” Jay Briscoe seemingly swooped in from nowhere, putting a hand on your arm, placing himself to your side but in front of you a bit, a barrier between you and Adam. “What’s going on here?” He asked, looking at Adam, and not you.
“Your girl, is crazy,” Adam declared, his eyes still right with yours, but addressing Jay’s question. You could see the anger in Adam’s eyes, along with the tension in his clenched jaw.
“Have I said fuck you, yet?” You asked sarcastically, restraining yourself from also giving him the finger or, childishly, sticking out your tongue.
“Hey, if you want a hate fuck, all you need to do is ask,” he retorted, the arrogance in his tone overwhelming.
And that was enough. Your rage boiled over, and before anyone, including yourself really knew better, your hand connected with Adam’s face, your knuckles making impact right on his cheek. His head flew to the side, as you followed through in your swing. Your arm dropped down after the punch, and you stared at him, as he remained turned to the side, his eyes closed.
“BRENNA!” Jay exclaimed, grabbing you fully by the shoulders and shoving you back behind him now entirely. “What the hell kid!”
You didn’t have a response. You felt like you were watching someone else’s life through your eyes, as you looked around Jay’s side. You just stared at Adam, as he slowly seemed to come back to reality as well, both of you letting what had just happened sink in. He stood up straight again, reaching a hand up to press gingerly against his jaw, which he moved ever so slightly, assessing the damage. When his eyes opened, the blue in them was practically electric, and he quickly laid them on you.
The stare down between the two of your was tense, to say the least. Adam looked entirely pissed off, but he also seemed…something. Something that your two incidences of physical violence, and verbal lashing, had clearly made worse. And you were seething, hurt, confused.
“You want to know why I’ve avoided you?” Adam finally spoke, his tone so cold, so quiet, so controlled, it sent a chill into your heart. “This is why.”
After pausing for one second longer, he turned, and walked away from you, not once looking back. You were confused more than ever. And then you began to feel the pain in your knuckles.
UPDATE: So this did in fact get continued....and is still in progress.
