The best time to do a Bridal Makeup and Hair Preview Trial.

One of the questions I get asked by my brides the most is......”When is the best time to do my makeup and hair trial session?” In my professional opinion, the best time is as soon as you book your venue and no less that 4-6 months from wedding date. This is to ensure mine and my teams availability for your date, as we get booked up months or soemtimes a year or more in advance.

A great time to do your preview is when you have a dress fitting scheduled if at all possible. This is the best time because you will be in your dress (after doing the makeup and hair, of course) and can see the complete look together. When you do your wedding makeup and hair in regular everyday clothes it is very hard to envision how it will all look with your beautiful wedding dress! Glamorous bridal makeup and hair just doesn’t pair well with jeans and a t-shirt! Most of the time the makeup will “seem” to be “too much” or the hair “overdone”, but when seen with the more glamorous wedding dress it all makes sense! It’s kind of like the reverse...if you’ve ever put on a pretty dress to try on at the store with little to no makeup on and hair in a ponytail, it just doesn’t quite look the same as it does when you have your makeup and hair done for the event the dress is meant for. I have been in the bridal beauty industry for about 20 years and from my professional experience I feel the best time to see your hair and makeup for the wedding is with your wedding dress on! The other benefit to doing the trial session at this time is you can get an idea if something in the makeup should be a little more or a little less or maybe a slightly different color on the eyes or lips. As well with the hair....maybe you thought the hair was too “big” or “overdone”, but when seeing it with the dress you may feel it actually needs to be bigger or maybe played down a bit. 

I do suggest wearing something white, even if just your top to your trial session to at least see the makeup with white on. And if you can wear a dress with a similar neckline, all the better to  get a better idea of how the hair and makeup looks with a dress on.
