Luke Hemmings: "It comes up a few times on a couple of songs. It’s existential, childlike wonder. It has that feeling to it of trying to understand the world around you and why I am the way I am. A lot of it is questioning, why do I feel like this? Why do I interact with the world like this and see it this way? I think there’s a certain point where you have to decide whether you’re going to face life or just stay in the place you are. Boy is a really lovely way to simplify that."

genuinely really respect luke for putting out more and more devastating content just one thing after another like this with no apology, no 'dw i'm going to therapy now' like he'd say when wfttwtaf came out. like he's actually been through all this *gestures in vague artistic explanation* and we get to see him exploring how it affects him emotionally now, and not, from what we can see, being sorry for being emotional or for being lonely even when people are trying to be there for him. like we're never going to get the full story of everything that got him to this place, good and bad, and that's okay! that's what life is like actually. and he may never clarify to us anything gender or sexuality related. or neurodivergence related or anything like that. he might open up a bit about how he's coping, but we can see some of that already can't we? the beginnings of self acceptance.

and so i hope it finds its way to audiences who really resonate with it. I hope when we're talking about memory loss and dissociation and being far too overwhelmed for far too long and having emotional needs that aren't met by simply doing everything we're told to do, or feeling isolated and outcast even when you superficially fit in in a world that's far too shallow--i hope we're like 'have you heard these albums?' to each other. i hope we're able to connect over how we relate to these songs and i hope we tell each other our stories and i hope luke gets to hear some of them too, and realise being an artist is about more than repetitive interviews, looking pretty, and singing the same setlist of songs. to see that in being honest he connected people, thousands of us, with experiences that maybe aren't so dissimilar and so isolating, and, even though he's the famous artist who this fan community exists for, we can put ourselves together in a way that he doesn't have to feel separate from it all.

AOTD- shakes is such a banger but I think garden life has some real potential

new luke album feels like spending the day at a distant friends lakehouse at the end of august but its rainy and foggy so you stay inside all day on white furniture staring out the window with a blanket on you that smells like a hotel because it never gets any use and you cant stop thinking about the person you love and how you want them there with the blanket on their lap too, then everything might be more peaceful and you could enjoy the rain instead of being sad about it, instead of feeling out of place.

in other words its everything i wanted it to be and more and soooo soft and sad and sweet. i love the song benny, dedicated to his brother. these 7 songs are the only songs that exist to me for the foreseeable future, i will not be listening to anything else so YEAH
