I remember seeing this post about a design for a transsexual flag. I thought the new stripe meanings were a good idea, and I wanted to ask if you could choose, you would prefer people using this flag instead of the other trans flag, since that one has some negative implications nowadays since it’s attached to the transgender movement.

Also, I have additional questions since I find this viewpoint extremely interesting:

I don’t know much about trans terms, but I thought transsexual was supposed to be a derogatory term for the group, or was it just a regular term/original name before getting replaced with transgender?

Would you have less beef with the whole “community” if they didn’t say that some procedures/side effects are reversible, were less aggressive about society affirming them, didn’t involve children/minors, or didn’t see surgeries, like phalloplasty, as a good idea (I find the idea extremely scary, but that might also partly be my fear of surgical procedures)? I’ve also seen Blaire White listed in both the link and the answered ask I saw from you (I’d have to look for the link but don’t want to make this any longer), the former saying that she accepts that even though she isn’t biologically a woman, she still enjoys living as the opposite sex and feels secure in her transition, so I’m assuming that she’s a positive example?

I’ve seen some reblogs about how top surgeries can also be harmful, and I can understand why since most surgeries will be very difficult to live with afterwards, but in what ways is it more risky than beneficial, and what is something you think would be a better alternative, if there is one?

Why do you think that there isn’t any medication for true gender dysphoria yet? One of the things I’ve read actually made me think about that. If it’s considered a mental illness, then why isn’t there any evident research for creating a medication for it?

Personally, I'm kind of over the idea of pride flags in general. But if people want a transexual flag then that one seems like a nicer idea to me and isn't so divisive.

1.I honestly don't know what terms are supposed to be derogatory or offensive anymore lol. They change so fast and no one in the community even agrees so I really don't know. If I remember correctly it wasn't that long ago that it was used pretty regularly so I'm sure it's offensive™ now but I wouldn't know why.

2. Yeah, I'd have essentially no problem with them at all if they didn't spread disinformation, aggressively go after people for not agreeing with them and prey on children. Those are really my only issues with them. I might not personally agree with their ideology and think they make some bad decisions but I wouldn’t be actively against them as a community if they didn't use their transness as an excuse to censor people, lie, and target children. But I absolutely would consider Blaire White a rare positive example. Even if Blaire didn't acknowledge the reality of being a biological male and knows that no matter the amount of procedures or treatments her gender can't be changed that's not necessary to just be a decent person. Which Blaire White is.

3. I think top surgery is more risky than beneficial because it comes with a physical health risks. It's a major surgery and the only benefit of getting it in the context of a sex change is that it makes you feel more like the gender you want to be. It doesn't have benefits on its own merit. So on one hand it's a major surgery that is irreversible and is a drastic change to the body that comes with possible physical health risks but on the other it might give you some superficial peace of mind. And that's why it should only be an option for adults.

4. That's a good question and honestly there's a lot of reasons I think could contribute to that. First, mental illnesses are hard to treat and often a medication doesn't do much other than alleviate symptoms. Therapy is probably the best option for any type of dysphoria in my opinion because dysphoria can go away and most of the time does if you actually seek therapy and treatment rather than "affirmation." I've seen studies done on detransitioners and the main reason given as to why they detransitioned was they realized their dysphoria was related to "other issues" which is something people typically find out in therapy. Another reason I think there's not much headway in a medication for gender dysphoria is financial incentive. Medical and gender affirming institutions get a big check for every one child who transitions and they're more interested in making money than anything else. It's not healthcare at this point. It's just activism.

some controversial opinions™:

you can identify as pan as long as you do not describe it as “being attracted to men, women and other” (it’s transphobic) or claim to be more inclusive than bisexual people (it’s biphobic). bi = pan.

lesbians/bi women can use whatever pronouns they want to and it’s been a thing for ages. both these groups have a rich history of having hard relationship with womanhood and/or gender. he/him and they/them lesbians/bi women are valid!

cishet aro/aces are not inherently lgbt and also split attraction model only works for aro/ace people.

gender is uncomfortable. dysphoria is subjective. trying to police if someone is uncomfortable enough navigating it to qualify as trans is a very cisnormative way of looking at it. non-binary gender identities are valid.

reclaiming slurs is fine but it’s lgbt community (pan falls under b and non-binary falls under t), not q*eer community!

just some thoughts™ but I’m actually very relieved by the fact that we got a canon trans character in the series, even if it’s not Momoe herself. In fact I’d say that I actually prefer it to be this way, because this confirms that the creators of Wonder Egg Priority support trans people, while at the same time Momoe’s identity (whether she’s a trans woman or just a butch woman) is open to interpretation.

I was kinda scared at first when the topic about trans Momoe came out because the series didn’t confirm it despite her character being built around the theme of not being seen as a girl, and this could have ended up meaning that the WEP writers weren’t comfortable with trans people and didn’t want to have such a character, which would have been very disappointing, especially considering the heavy feminist themes of the series (and feminism must include trans people or it’s not feminism at all).

However, after this episode, we know that they are okay with having trans characters, even if that character is not Momoe. But, as I said in the beginning, I think this is a good choice to make in regards to her character, because this means that different people can feel represented by Momoe’s struggles with identity, whether they are trans or cis. I’ve already seen some posts talking about how trans women and butch women have very similar experiences, so it’s perfectly fair for both of them to see themselves in Momoe. And considering that the series tries to represent struggles and traumas of all kinds, it's a good thing that they aren't limiting their characters' experiences with labels.

I’m still hoping for Momoe to be a trans woman tho, because that would be amazing, and after this episode I have even more reasons to think she is, but also I understand that representation of different groups can be a difficult thing to achieve, especially when you have very few characters to play with.

You know, as bad as the ending of wep was, I'm still very thankful about this anime. We got a canonically trans guy in the series (which is really huge!!), and I'm very impressed by all the metaphors of dealing with trauma/mental illness and seeking help + the feminist undertones and lgbtq themes of the anime, like this is not the kind of anime you see normally, so I'm glad that at least it got a chance to be out there

Really sucks that near the end it got so whacky and lost any consistency, and I do think we were very let down with our expectations, but I will very fondly remember the two first thirds of the anime because they were great and really enjoyed them

I don't think it'll get a sequel, and tbh I'd rather just leave it like this and move on into another thing, but hey, maybe in the future we will get a different anime that becomes what wep couldn't

Anyway it was fun being in this fandom with everyone and enjoying the anime together, hopefully we will meet each other in another fandom, see y'all 💖

yes!!! ok so

when or if i started shipping it: i cant actually remember for sure? i know i started getting into the gravity falls fandom after i had caught up, which was a lil bit after a tale of two stans aired, and i completely misinterpreted fords character and didnt really like him that much until that break inbetween roadside attraction and weirdmageddon, but then once i did figure him out i got really into it, so it mustve been around then? idk

my thoughts: oh WORM!!! they were one of the earliest gay ships i rly rly got into and now that gf is over i dont think abt them as much, but someone can just bring them up and boom. im in the Zone. in retrospect the fact that i was constantly like ‘Im Ford’ and so deeply invested in this mlm ship and constantly projecting onto both of them while these r not signs of being a gay boy inherently, make a lot more sense now that i am a Gay Boy (tm).

what makes me happy about them: the fact that even tho there r ppl who will desperately insist ford is straight or ford is bi so he can still be Straight(tm) Ford Is Gay literally became a meme and despite alex herb not meaning anything less than hetti spaghetti by what he wrote abt them in the journal he still had to censor it and that theyre just two gay scientists who can help each other work through their trauma and heal together and do some cool science

what makes me sad about them: see above. one time somebody said ford might be gay bc of radiation poisoning and all my crops died

things done in art/fic that annoy me: oh boy i rly hate it when fids is characterized as a smol helpless waif and/or when ford is characterized as a lorge asshole. i hate all those one sided angst fics where fids is in love with ford but they cant b a thing bc ford is aro how tragic :’( or ones where fids is cheating on his wife with ford when u could easily just have a poly or open relationship or have the fic take place after they get a divorce, u dont know that that only happened after the mind gun stuff went too far. ALSO fics where bill takes control of ford and abuses fids for fun. dont like that.

things i look for in art/fic: ok first of all i wanna say my crops are DYING and i desperately want more trans ford and/or fids content, but trans ford stuff seems pretty rare and ofc more ppl wanna hc fids as a trans man bc hes....? ???? got narrow shoulders and hes skinny and apparently not as masculine? but a lot of the trans fids content i see usually seems 2 involve piling on as much trans-related angst as possible and/or using him for their mpreg fetish and honestly? fuck off

i would also like to see some more fluff with them where nobody is an asshole and they just enjoy their day, but that being said i do rly like hurt/comfort too tbh, if its like say, them trying 2 deal with their trauma and/or mental illnesses and helping each other thru it, stuff like that, not ‘ford and/or bill was a huge asshole to fids but hes okay with it bc???’ or ‘fids has 80 relatives and their only trait is being transphobic’

who id be comfortable with them ending up with, if not each other: im not rly sure? i cant think of any fandom ships for them that arent yknow disgusting and none of my own that come to mind would b that good tbh? ideally if they dont pair up, they stay good friends and fids lives a nice and comfy life in his mansion and bonds with his son while ford goes on fun boat adventures with stan, they email each other a lot and live a nice life.

my happily ever after for them: ok so i have two ways this could go bear with me - either like i said above fids lives a comfy and happy life in his mansion, he bonds with tate again, he adopts paz and possibly the dipper clones and his boat husband comes home every so often and tells him all abt his fun adventures while cuddling him and they generally have a good time. alternatively fids goes on the boat adventures with stan and ford and they have a grand old time

their favorite nonsexual activity: ford lays on the couch and fids falls asleep on top of him wrapped up in his big strong grampa arms and covered in a thick blanket and they sleep all day and wake up knowing nobody is going to hurt them ever again
