so apparently they put a lot of thought into putting together the members of a bomber crew and actually had a couple quirks like:

personalities must match or compliment well, specifically seeking to avoid personality clashes

one member of the crew must have type-O blood, the universal blood donor

no more than two people from the same state on one crew

"The second free-flight test of an evolving series of X-38 prototypes took place July 10, 2001 when the X-38 was released from NASA's B-52 mothership over the Edwards Air Force Base range in California's Mojave Desert. Shortly after the photo was taken, a sequenced deployment of a drogue parachute followed by a large parafoil fabric wing slowed the X-38 to enable it to land safely on Rogers Dry Lake at Edwards. NASA engineers from the Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards, and the Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas, are developing a 'lifeboat' for the International Space Station based on X-38 research."

A Lackadaisy in OTL WW2 AU

I am going to commit an infraction against Tracy's "The cats are just representative of humans" stance:

So I was having a nice chat with my friends on Lackadaisy characters in WW2 uniforms. The concept expanded and we not only have headcanons for their role (assuming they are all still citizens of the United States), but even some edited posters and a concept for fiction based on the premise.

What exactly is the premise?

Imagine our world, now include a separate intelligent Feline species living alongside us.

Now go back to the Second World War.

The Lackadaisy characters will remain the same age despite the year difference. Their experiences at the Lackadaisy will still remain as a memory of past times before the war.

Everyone is technically on the same side.

Could probably cover topics such as Integration and a nod to the experiences of african-american communities serving in WW2 despite racism.

Who's Who?

Rocky = The only feline in the crew of a bomber aircraft, US Air Force. Seems fitting to having him perform (at least once) whilst dropping rain of death below.

Freckle = Part of the infrantry, the US Army might be the only ones crazy or daring enough to accept him. Has a small diary as well as a letter writer habit.

Ivy = A dancer performing alongside a human troupe. Might have a role in the integration of Felines as an accepted part of American society. Writes letters to Freckle.

Zib = In the navy. Not sure why it fits so well to us but the image of Zib in a nay uniform slouching over the handrails of a destroyer has a good poster vibe.

The Savoys = Moved to France after its occupation to join the resistance movements since the army probably would not have women taking part in the fighting. They are still the same personality-wise though may face a bit of culture clash.

Mordecai = Military Intelligence or the OSS. Probably has a place in his division's subculture.

Viktor = Either a commanding officer or part of logistics. Might be like that general who was on the ground during the Normandy landings.

Mitzi = A lobbyist or a politician or head of a movement representing America's Felines.

More details on the piece of fiction concept if there's demand for it.

I would personally like to ask Hanks, Orloff, Spielberg, the whole MotA gang really, what the actual fuck because even though I KNEW this was the Regensburg mission and I KNEW what sort of shit was going to go down I got played.

When Dickie got hit and was still in the second seat I started to doubt whether I was remembering the mission correctly. He wasn’t out on the wing, there was no trouble with the stabilizer … maybe I was mixed up! Maybe this was another one of Biddick’s close calls!

I should have known better.

#so for anyone thinking they should have read the book first to help mitigate the feels don't worry about it #it doesn't help - they're out to get us all #ALSO cannot believe they didn't take advantage of gut-punch we would get from Snyder climbing out on the wing. reaching back for his chute #putting it on and then jumping only to slam into the stabilizer and die #like we got a shot of someone else hitting a different bomber while bailing #but that “oh it felt like he was so close to making it!!” would have played well on tv #and Curtis Biddick still would have been staying to keep it level for his crew #anyway they still got me just not in a way I was expecting #sidenote while I'm ranting:#loling at them making such a big deal of the Buck/Bucky nickname situation but using Curt all the time for a guy who was called Pete #bold of them to use a nickname that makes sense instead of whatever brought 'Pete' on 😄#masters of the air #MotA #mota spoilers #masters of the air spoilers #curtis biddick #richard snyder #hbo war #MotA episode 3

I don't really think it means anything but I noticed that one of Norms biggest flaws is always blaming everyone around him for everything, hes so sure anything that went wrong is not his fault. I know we don't know much about Norm pre-Skip but he seemed like a kind of prickly person who was very dedicated to the brigade and then after he lost everything he had ever believed in for reasons that were ripped from him he became a raging asshole in the unkind chaos of space. So do you think that maybe after the memory wipe and the chip that the notion of "not my fault" is all he had left? Like he has this constant echoing thought, or this conviction that feels like driftwood in a stormy ocean but he doesn't know why or where it comes from but he has it and it feels important. It feels like his line to his sanity. Its not his fault. And memory wiped Norm just applies this to everything, but really it's the last vestige of him flying that ship with all those bodies in the back dead from Dusty's champagne and it's not his fault, it's not his fault, it's not his fault
