Thelreads, Vigilantes 51, Replies Part 2

1) “Awwwn, look at that- You know, I really like when Midnight isn’t being creepy to little kids, a rare thing to say in this particular manga. But unfortunately I must ask, why isn’t she being part of the people that will go outside to fight the villains? I think she would be far more useful there than here, you know?”- She can’t fly, and her pheromone smoke-style quirk wouldn’t be much good high up on the outside, where high winds would blow it away from the targets before she could ever get close, so she’d be limited in mobility and unable to properly contribute to the fight. Plus, Midnight has good social skills, so he’s in the best position she can possibly be to help out in this crisis right now.

guys there’s- There’s no need for that-“- Miruko saw that the plan didn’t require them to brute-force the situation and decided that it was a dumb plan, to be replaced with her better version of taking the straightforward approach.

3) “Sorry Cap, it will take a few more minutes for you to get the help you need, hang in there- well, not that you have other option but…”-Luckily, Koichi’s here to tag in to buy him some extra few minutes to run out the clock.

4) “Oh geez, he’s trying hard to keep himself up by trash-talking the Nomu, trying to keep his ego going as a way to not give up, but jesus is it sad to see him saying those things to a monster that doesn’t understand anything that he is saying, and worse, that he’s getting the shit beaten out of him with no way to fight back or even defend himself”- It really is the biggest showcase of CC’s genuine heroic spirit, because there’s no cameras, no witnesses, no sapient opponent that CC can psych himself up with by having a trash-talking competition, no reason for him to keep acting to be the confident, in-control hero he pretends to be when on the job, but CC still keeps trying to do it anyway, even when it’s looking increasingly hopeless and he’s steadily becoming overwhelmed with despair that he’s going to die a dog’s death where nobody can see him.

He could panic, or beg for mercy, but he keep acting like a tough-guy hero who’s got everything under control because he wants to be that guy. He wants to be a hero he can be proud of, who’ll stand tall when others are in need and won’t give in or act uncool no matter how scared he is of his own mortality. CC thinks he’s alone, but despite his back being against the wall he doesn’t stop trying to act like a hero that reassures everybody, even when the only person he could reassure was himself.

5) “I wouldn’t be so sure about that Cap, regeneration quirks seems to be extremely common in this setting, going by how many times we’ve seen them so far, and not to say this thing there is tripping balls on Trigger, meaning this quirk is going full-speed with no way of stopping it”- On the other hand, AFO made a point of naming that quirk as Hyper-regeneration, which makes me think that it was ‘perfect’ regeneration, capable of regrowing anything that was lost or damaged by an attack, without any limitation beyond what the user’s body could withstand from the energy drain required to regrow the missing flesh.

This Bomu might have a regeneration factor designed into it, but on the other hand, it’s probably got a lot more limitations on it, such as the re-grown body parts becoming increasingly unstable the more they grow back, or the power not working correctly if it’s pushed to regrow too much in rapid succession. It probably does have a limit, but it’s unknown if it’ll reach it before help arrives and handles the main body, or if it’ll exhaust itself first getting prematurely detonated by Koichi.

6) “IT WAS KOICHI! HELL FUCKING YEAH, THE GUNHANDS HAVE RETURNED TO SAVE THE DAY!

AND LOOK AT THAT, THOSE SHOOTS ARE ENOUGH TO BLOW UP THE NOMU’S HANDS, HE CAN KEEP SHOOTING HIM AND FORCING HIM TO REGENERATE WHILE THE HEROES ARE STILL BUSY WITH THE GODDAMN WALL”- I count that as more being that the Bomu’s hands are on an extremely sensitive hair-trigger, enough that a significant shock can activate the blast regardless of whether or not the Bomu wants the hands to blow up then or not, but regardless, it looks like Koichi found a way to repel explosions after all. The Cap’s good looks are saved!

7) “HELL YEAH THERE’S OUR BOY!

AND SHUT UP CAPTAIN, YOU’RE RUINING HIS DRAMATIC ENTRANCE, LET HIM FINISH IT BEFORE YOU START COMPLAINING”- One day, Koichi will get his cool dramatic hero entrance and one-liner, but it is not this day.

8) “Shut up Cap, he can fly, or at least double-jump towards the building in case he ends up falling, what is your safeguard in case the building comes crashing down, huh? None? That’s what I thought, so zip it and let the Crawler save the day for you.”- Well if the building comes crashing down, it’ll be when the Bomu’s blasts have finally weakened CC enough that he can no longer support the building and he’s a dead cadaver falling, so whether he likes it or not, Koichi is his lifeline right now.

9) “Oh yeah McBee, were you counting on that one as well? Was that all part of your ~big evil plan~or something? Yeeah I bet it was, right…”- An unplanned addition to the script, but probably one he’s still confident he can write around to get his envisioned ending….

10) “KOICHI PLEASE, DIDN’T YOUR FATHER THOUGHT YOU HOW TO SHOOT? YOU DON’T CLOSE YOUR EYES WHEN PULLING THE TRIGGER, GODDAMMIT KOICHI THAT WAS THE FIRST THING KNUCKLEDUSTER TAUGHT YA HOW DID YA ALREADY FORGOT IT?!”- Luckily, Koichi invested enough points into his ‘firearm’ branch of the skill tree to unlock the Machinegun option, and there’s a reason why the term ‘spray and pray’ is attached to those. Koichi would likely miss if he made singular, more precise shots, especially now the Bomu’s aware of his presence, so unleashing a lot of random projectiles in the Bomu’s general direction has a lot likelier chance of hitting the target at least once rather than him being good enough to hit it every single time, especially with a moving target.

11) “We still need to work on that name boy, but I ain’t gonna be the one to ruin your big moment”- Even as he gains tons of new variety and options with his improved quirk usage, it seems like workshopping cool attack names will always be one weakspot Koichi will never be able to shirk.

12) “Oh shut up Cap, he’s here saving your skin and you’re still complaining about it? He’s not a pro hero remember? He never had proper training, he’s just doing the best he can with his limited amount of power, not to say this thing here can fucking regenerate, you know?

And yet he’s doing a pretty damn good job at that, I tell you that much.”- Plus, circumstances being what they are, Koichi’s less likely to get in trouble this way in the aftermath of the fight once the heroes turn up and it comes out he uses his quirk against a hero’s wishes in the line of duty. Granted, there shouldn’t be anybody there who’d actually blame him for doing so in the moment, but there’s always that one guy who’s just a stickler for the rules…

13) “It’s not like he’s not aware of it Cap, both that he can’t do much on his own and that its a bit lame, but he still does it regardless. He’s not after being cool or popular, he’s after helping those in need, be them civilians or heroes.”- Not to mention, it’s a hell of a lot more effective than CC’s plan to ‘just keep eating the punches until help arrives’ was playing out.

14) “Hell yeah Cap, you let the boy handle it and you’ll see how you’ll survive ten minutes more than you were supposed to. Koichi shall delay your inevitable end for as long as he can, that’s the Crawler’s style”-

Crawler Style: it ain’t pretty, but it does the job.

15) “My god, and to think how much potential Koichi still has- OH GOD, HE’S GOING TO RIVAL CAPTAIN CELEBRITY ONE DAY, OH MY GOD I DIDN’T REALIZED IT”- Heck, Koichi saves Skyline’s bacon from the frying pan, and may even have become his own personal hero in the process. @thelreads

What if Rin and Obito just....didn't know how old Kakashi was. Like what if it just didn't come up. They just think he's short and has an attitude because he's a prodigy, not because he's like. Literally 9. He becomes a Jonin and Minato's like 'wow great job kakashi! Jonnin at 11 years old, I'm so proud!' and Kakashi gets annoyed and Minato laughs and Rin and Obito just think that it's a joke. Why does Rin have a crush on him even though she's 13 and he's 11? because she doesn't know. Why does Obito say that the three of them are the same age? because he doesn't know. When they're younger he doesn't really celebrate his birthday (or any holiday) so Minato just invites him to dinner and gives him something pretty but doesn't make a big deal out of it, so they don't find out then.

Alternate universe where orochimaru watched the chunin exams and just. Called off the konoha crush because watching konoha trip and fall over itself trying to deal with Hyuga Clan Secretish Slavery being exposed in front of the other nations, civilians, and the Daiyamo himself is like.....so much funnier. He comes back and kills hiruzen like two years later just as everything is calming down. Chaotic spiteful.

Readymade BNHA icons current availability and pricing

Okay so @shinvcho suggested I make a sort of post to better list what base icons I’ve got available from previous commissions as well as doing on my own time, so I’m going with it so people can hopefully pass this post around and spread the word so I can keep going with more commission work! You have my eternal gratitude reblogging this and spreading the word just through word of mouth.

Icons are priced $5 by the 100, and I generally round up to the next 100 after the total number of icons goes above 50 within the 100 (hopefully that explanation makes sense!). Below the cut are characters I’ve already made icons of, how many icons I’ve made, what medium the icons are from (can range from the main manga to spinoff mangas to OVA’s to the movies) and what the base price for them is. Price might go up a little if further editing with borders/overlay/etc is requested, depending on the amount of icons to be edited. If you’ve got further questions or want to ask about commissioning come shoot me an ask or IM!

All set totals are subject to change as more chapters come out, but this is what I have as of 3/16/2022.

For the sets that are between 30 and 100 icons, I apologize that I’m still charging the same amount since I usually charge per 100 icons, but since this is my only income I have to charge the minimum $5 whenever reasonably possible since I did take the time to go through the manga to make and clean what icons I could get. What to read in the BNHA vigilante manga

I tried reading the vigilante manga before but dropped it after three chapters because I got bored and now I tried reading it again because of the Kurogiri - Oboro Shirakumo thing. Not a lot with actual significance is happening in the vigilante manga, fight scenes are constant but kinda pointless cause they feel like there’s nothing actually at stake and there’s no bigger narrative, several sexual assault jokes are sprinkled throughout, some characters are kinda interesting but for every somewhat likeable character there’s a super annoying one, wouldn’t recommend.

So this post is basically a way to tell people which chapters Aizawa’s flashback is in and also about some other plot points in the vigilante manga that could be interesting to readers of the main manga.

Chapter 9.5-11: Stain’s backstory

(I skipped chapters 36-51 cause I got too bored so I can’t really tell you about those but from how the manga continued after that it doesn’t really seem like I missed anything relevant)

If anyone feels like I left out anything else that was interesting or relevant to the main story then feel free to reblog the post and add onto it. After all I skipped several chapters and tbh I also ended up skimming through a lot of the chapters I did read cause I simply couldn’t care less.

That being said, if you’re reading this post and you love the vigilante manga then that’s great, not everything has to be suited to my tastes, this is really just a post for other people who want to know about the relevant chapters but don’t actually want to read through the entire thing.

I've decided it's time to compile a list of my favorite fics!! It's not a comprehensive one because there are simply Too Many, but I'm getting as much as I can!!

These are all BNHA fics, and they're in no particular order- although there is a section for manga spoilers and for the... darker fics I'm reccing.

Each fic will have a little blurb a la me about the fic. I hope this helps at least a few people find some great new fics!!

All angst has a happy ending unless otherwise stated!

Each fic will have the word count, and a + symbol if it's a work in progress! (Fics that aren’t officially abandoned/on hiatus have a + sign the same as everyone else, so keep an eye out for that if you like fics with a guaranteed ending written.)

Making this helped me realize that I have a particular genre I'm fond of! (It’s found family/hurt comfort lol) I didn't hit every great fic I've read by every author I love, as that would simply be impossible, but I tried to come close! Believe me when I say that this was a labour of love.

Skvader by BelleAmant (@bnhaven)! Izuku has a bunny+rabbit mutation quirk and like his siblings Hawks and Miruko, is trained by the Hero Commison. Unlike them, he gets to go to Yuuei, and that makes all the difference. 111k+, hurt/comfort.

Vigil, Ante, and their Vigilante Antics by BelleAmant (@bnhaven)! Izuku and Hitoshi become vigilantes after life knocks them to the ground. 127k, angst+hurt/comfort.

Personality Swap Series by BelleAmant (@bnhaven)! One day during class Aizawa realizes that Izuku is a very talented author. Shenanigans ensue. 102k+, 26/33 works, mostly fluff with a bit of hurt/comfort for flavor!

It takes two to tangle by Withstarryeyes (@withstarryeyes), Authoress_Lilly. When Stain attacks Tensei in Hosu, he finds himself sharing Tenya's body with no clue how he got there, and he makes the most of it. 10k, angst with a happy ending.

Policed to Meet You by Authoress_Lilly! Quirkless police officer Izuku works with the graduated heroes of Class 1-A as well as some other familiar heroes, and they wonder why he wasn't something more; wasn't a hero. 6.2k, somewhere in-between hurt/comfort and fluff.

A Thousand Miles to Dawn by Authoress_Lilly! Tokoyami, Hagakure, and Midoriya are all hit by a quirk that sends them into nightmares about their past, while the pros in the real world try to figure out what's going on. 4.7k, angst with a happy ending. this one hits hard

“You have no idea who I am, do you?” by Authoress_Lilly! Hakagure tries on makeup and for the first time, she's visible. 4.1k, hurt/comfort

An Averted Catastrophe by Authoress_Lilly! Pro Hero Shinsou is cornered by villains on patrol, and is saved when a cat happens to distract them. 1.3k, lighthearted

Parallels by Afromaniiac (@afromaniiac)! Eijirou's always said that he'll never freeze up again, but he can't live up to that. Thankfully, Momo is there to help! 3.2k, hurt/comfort.

Net Neutrality Series by Teobot (@teobotfics)! Badass Izuku takes down the Shie Hassaikai and adopts Eri, and they run a cafe together, with Aizawa as their only consistent customer. At night, Izuku becomes Harbinger, informant and vigilante extraordinare! 84k+, fluff->hurt/comfort->angst with a happy ending. I've reread this series at least five times.

Thelreads, Vigilantes 51, Replies Part 1

1) “And oh boy, it seems like its time for the guest heroes to save the day. Really, what the fuck was McBee even thinking with that one?”- He was thinking he’d be able to rely on the Deathtrap design of the murder Dome to lock everybody inside it and Isolate CC from reinforcements at the same time, since it seems that CC is the only hero that has the necessary combination of stable flight and super-strength enhancement to keep the dome stabilised when the supports get damaged- and it’s kinda telling of how powerful CC actually is that it takes something on this scale to force him to utilise enough of his quirk that his main body is vulnerable.

Granted, the prerequisite for this entire situation was that he’d be able to lure CC out alone before the other heroes could interfere, but perhaps he had some plan in mind to achieve that- and he lucked out anyway, but it doesn’t really hide the fact that, meticulously as he’s crafted this plan to weaken CC, he is nevertheless flying by the seat of his pants to pull it off so successfully up to this point.

2) “HELL YEAH TENSEI, PLEASE ORGANIZE THOSE IDIOTS TO DO SOMETHING, I THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD BE ALREADY OUTSIDE TRYING TO ASSESS WHAT IS HAPPENING

Well, at least everybody that can fly, that is.:- Sadly, Tensei isn’t high enough on the hero board to have the necessary clout to craft a plan of attack with people who outrank him, despite having significant leadership skills and good coordination with his many sidekicks, but luckily, it seems teamwork is another specialty of the soon-to-be deadest Jeanist in the house- which makes sense when you consider that his resent incarnation was depicted as attempting to mould Bakugou into a cooperative team player when he interned under him

3) “YES, PLEASE, CHECK OUTSIDE. HOW DIDN’T Y’ALL ALREADY DONE THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE? THERE’S LIKE, THREE PEOPLE HERE THAT CAN FLY. I can understand the ones that can’t fly staying behind, but the ones that do should already be out trying to check what’s happening, considering how many villains we have roaming the streets.”- On the other hand, none of them know that there’s currently a fight going on in the skies outside the dome, with CC last having been seen inside the interior, and none of them having witnessed the explosion that gave him his exit window, odds are they probably assume he’s somewhere still inside the building, and thus none of them know they’re needed outside- plus the fact that they can’t communicate with him right now, it’s taking them a few minutes to re-contextualise their current situation from ‘natural disaster’ to ‘imminent ongoing terror attack’, until Scarface makes thing really obvious with his EMP attack

4) “Alright, the other remaining Nomu showed up, and I’m already am not sure what he’s gonna do besides the fact it won’t be good.”-Well, he killed the Wifi, so now we’re mere seconds away from a full-blown mass panic in the Murderdome.

5) “Ragdoll, why are you looking so happy?! They just down the internet with an EMP pulse, this is time to be freaking out you know!?”- Heroes always keep a smile on during the worst of moments after all… that, or her face is just Like That.

6) “Yeah guys, is it time to go outside and check what’s going on or are y’all still gonna be sitting around for a few more minutes trying to figure out what the next step is? No hurry there, we just have a hero being murdered, no biggie”-Well, Jeanest certainly believes in having a plan of attack, and luckily for CC, Koichi already has a plan: Attack

7) “Anyone interrupting the fight you say? Anyone like the 10 or so heroes that are just a few meters up from said fight? Two of which can fly and at least one of which could completely immobilize the Nomu without much trouble? Is that what you’re saying McBee? Those interruptions you say? Because I doubt that after an EMP pulse knocked-down every electronic in the building they ain’t gonna rush outside to check if it isn’t a villain.”- Not like they can if they want to, since the point of the EMP pulse was more to lock the exits and activate the in-built murder features in the dome than it was to obscure communication and prevent others finding out what’s happening.

Kuin might have wanted to avoid a large-scale spectacle and specialised in not being seen or heard, and preventing anybody understanding that she was present in many of the crisis she caused, but Scarface is all about the exact opposite, having a loud and dramatic fight scene worthy of the big screen, and his only concern is making sure there’s no unplanned interruptions before the climatic hero’s death scene. Pity he forgot the background character of Koichi….

8) “You know what, can somebody just call OSHA? Those people are out to just kill as many people are possible it seems”- It seems that, because of the lack of traditional comic-book supervillain lairs and their accordingly poor health and safety standards, the workers who would have helped build those shoddy death-trap buildings have instead been commissioned to help build many urban areas and buildings, which might explain why so many of them get easily destroyed in fights with villains.

9) “No Best Deadnist, McBee is not even the one getting credit for this one, there’s some civil engineer or architect that is a double agent for the villains and is just subtly designing things as to make sure the biggest amount of people will die in case of an emergency.”- Whilst he definitely planned around utilising the poor OSHA standards of the Murderdome against the heroes, I do wonder how Scarface ever would have planned to circumvent CC’s defences if he didn’t have a 300 ton building he could drop on his head that he could also conveniently lock every nearby hero in the vicinity inside of at the same time. Really, there’s luck, and then there’s this plan, which has more holes in it than Swiss cheese. It’s a miracle it’s going so well.

10) “This is not the time for puns Best Deadnist, this place is under attack, I think its time to send everybody that can fly outside, even if you have to blow a hole on the wall to get there.”-It’s kinda weird how they changed his hero name from ‘Death Arms’ to Desutegoro, to accommodate the electricity-style pun in his original hero name, because it honestly sounds worse off now. But yeah, puns and wordplay are just a thing Jeanist does, he can’t help himself any more than Bakugou can stop being an explosively-tempered teenager.

11) “The “Worst case scenario” mentioned meaning, of course, that he’s already dead. Man’s literally got 50 000+ lives riding on his shoulders, and I have to say, whilst it’s no Kamino, this is nonetheless an impressive heroic feat for somehow who initially seemed like a sleaze ball and a faker at being a ‘real’ hero.

Miss Kobayashi there can probably carry either you or Midnight to help immobilize the villains, but other than that the rest of them can only sit around and calm the people, maybe reassure them that at least the end will come quickly once the Egg comes crashing down.”- It’s neat, and slightly appropriate, that a man so focused on fabrics, made from interlocking and weaving threads into a complicated pattern to make a complete picture, would have a corresponding focus on tight teamwork and leadership skills, even amongst his fellow-ranked heroes. He was the hero right below Hawks and Endeavour back during the age of All Might in his prime, and here we get to see that the position was only because he has such outstanding pears to work alongside, not due to any deficiency in his hero skills or leadership ability.

Alright? I mean, I never got much of Miruko‘s personality in the main series, but I can say that I wasn’t expecting exactly… that? Okay? A bit weird, to be honest, even more with how excited she seemed about it? huh?”- She’s sorta like a mellow Bakugou, being focused on fighting and proving herself in combat- hence why she was excited to face off with Dabi despite only having close-range skills against his AOE fire, and he decided to get the hell out of dodge before she had a chance to get close to him- but a lot less abrasive to others she has to work alongside, hence her joyful admittance that she hates teamwork but she’ll work alongside them for the good of the civilians in danger despite that, whereas Bakugou would have told everybody to shut up and follow his lead to resolve the crisis. There’s a lot of people out there who’d love to see her mentor Bakugou honestly, just to see what kind of chaos would unfold.

14) “And now for the announcement of impeding doom, courtesy of our dear loud friend Present Mic. Alright dude, remember to make sure they all know where the emergency exits that they can’t use are, and that they keep their wallets close by to facilitate identifying the bodies later on.”- Plus, if Mic shouts enough, he might make enough noise to cover the concerning sounds of explosions happening outside the dome, or his fellow heroes none-too-subtly blasting their way straight out the side of the building

15) “Not that this would reassure them that much, considering they are hundreds of meters up in the sky in a death trap of metal and concrete, and they can’t even go out even though the ground is shaking beneath them- You know what, I think that now they would panic.”- Earthquakes are a frequent occurrence in Japan, so they’re probably more used to them than, say, Europe, but on the other hand, I see that as an excellent reason never to go up a tall building in japan lest you be in the worst possible location when a nasty one hits. The fact this place doesn’t have any windows to see what’s going on or have an easy way to get outside and is basically a massive sealed Coffin-to-be at the moment only compounds the feeling. @thelreads
