Otis Redding Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay: while not rare I find his record fitting in the wake of our friend Blu Jemz’ passing. This 45 belonged to my mother, its a somber beautiful melancholy song and Otis Redding is my favorite singer of all time and has been since I was a child. Other than Michael Jackson he is the artists I listened to the most in my youth. My mom loved Otis Redding and played him and soul music in general all throughout my childhood. How I saved this record all those years is a mystery. Otis was the most emotive singer of all time IMO. He did more with less ( no backgrounds, no harmonies and a 2 octave rane) than any singer ever. This was the first song he wrote on guitar apparently on a boat in California after he had jus played Monterey Pop. He would die in a tragic plane crash mere weeks after. This song was released posthumously and was his first number 1 pop record. This song is lovely, touching and joyful. I always wondered where would otis have gone musically had he lived? If it was anything like this tune which I suspect it would be (This was supposedly inspired by Bob Dylan) we were truly deprived of some amazing art.
