 In the movie, Madea’s Family Reunion, is a positive representation of the black family with great example of black love. Also, there are negative images of successful black men who take advantage of their wives. Many times, movies reveal a lot of dysfunction that goes on in the home of the black family like secrets and mistrust. However, in this movie one will see a black family reunion event where the older generation take a place to influence the younger generation to utilize their power in the world. This is a powerful scene in the movie because the wisdom that the older generation has to about life could help the younger generation move past some of the areas in which they may feel stuck or confused. The blackness is revealed by the empowering words and the heavy use of the bible because many black people often encourage with words of empowerment and bible verses. On the other hand, the black man that was considered a success in the upper class was beating his wife. The problem that gives this bad representation is that not all black successful men are abusive but this is the role that is given to black successful. In the movie, A Diary of a Mad Black Woman”, the man who divorced her was a successful black businessman. When the audience view these movies the idea that black success comes from a wicked person. The idea of successful black people are almost evil. Overall, this movie, Madae’s family reunion, does have an authentic positive representation of the black family love.
