Conk and Pompadour.
"The conk was a hairstyle popular among African-American men from the 1920s up to the early-to-mid 1960s. This hairstyle called for a man with naturally "kinky" hair to have it chemically straightened using a relaxer called congolene, an initially homemade hair straightener gel made from the extremely corrosive chemical lye which was often mixed with eggs and potatoes. The applier had to wear gloves and the solution timed just right on the applicant's head and then thoroughly rinsed out with cold water to avoid chemical burns. The desired outcome was for the newly straightened hair to be easily styled in the popular "conk" style of that era." -Wikipedia

I started going natural a full year after getting relaxers for basically my whole life. I recently cut the back of my hair only atm due to how much more damage it was than the front. However, some coworkers of mines have commented “why my hair look like this?” or” I can’t do anything else to it?” The same two co workers ask this same question constantly and at one point one of them who’s also a black woman said “I look like IT the clown when he’s coming out the drain” while she was assisting a customer and even the customer laughed. I feel so disgusting and discouraged because I thought she of all ppl wouldn’t know when someone transitioning to natural would understand. Since she told us about her mom going natural. But thru the end, another black queen took my back and got on both of them for me. I’m not a confrontational person, yet she said her words then pulled me aside and gave me words of encouragement and we exchanged numbers.
At the moment practicing with different types of black hair styles trying to grow out of my comfort zone just being locks
Tried to give her freckles and a little bit of acne :))
Am not sure if it’s my best first try at it
I am mainly doing this bc I’m tired of people who don’t try bc and I quote “it’s to hard to draw anyone who isn’t my comfort zone” I mean isn’t this why we draw to grow and change it and put what we want to see in the world everything we see as small or big imperfections, or things just ignored I tried to give her more of plus size body like me
Just give me some pointers and so on things I need to work on (with me tho that’s probably a lot of things I mainly draw once and while and it’s more of small hobby I’ve been drawing since I could get my hands on paper)
