DDoS Attack Against AO3: Correcting Misinformation
Normally I don't make any posts like this, but I have an interest in cybersecurity and sadly I've seen people are being really ignorant about this recent DDoS attack against the site AO3 (Archive of Our Own), so I thought I'd remind people of a few things:
Anonymous Sudan appears to have no actual link to Sudan at all, or to any previous hacktivist groups that once operated there. This masquerade is probably based in anti-immigration and other racist sentiments, and utilizing those sentiments in other people to scare people and set up Muslims and Sudanese people as a target. This should be obvious from the language used in their note, but this was already known prior to this particular attack.
This so-called Anonymous Sudan has actually been very active recently—remember that they claimed to attack Reddit, Flickr, Riot Games, a huge number of Microsoft web portals like OneDrive and Outlook, etc. before AO3, so AO3 was totally a logical target for them since they've gone after smaller entities before. DDoS attacks like this are easy for any script kiddie to set up, so it's not weird that they'd go for a smaller target like this.
Honestly this group of posers probably just wants money, everybody. They sent AO3 a ransom note asking for Bitcoin (and just in case people don't know, do not pay a ransom if at all possible if this ever happens to you).
My advice to people who've noticed this attack is two-fold: calm down since this is part of a larger pattern that has literally resulted in basically no loss for the end-user of any of the sites, and... I don't really know a better way to put this, but don't believe everything you read. A religiously-motivated hate group wouldn't use terms like "LGBTQ+" and "smuts," and it's so blatantly obvious that the timing of every single one of these attacks is being used to smear Muslims and Sudanese people if you think about current events for like. One second. And if you look up Anonymous Sudan, you'll see their string of attacks and how all experts know that they have nothing to do with Sudan at all. Even AO3 itself told everybody that the group is lying about their motivations... though I think I'd go further than that personally because even their name itself is almost certainly a total sham.
To be clear: this post isn't targeted at anyone in particular. I've just seen a lot of people falling for this overall or not realizing this is part of a pattern, and I also wanted to remind everyone that this isn't anything to be concerned about. What is something to be concerned about is not doing research or thinking critically and then unwittingly spreading racist ideas.

RECOVERING LOST, HACKED, OR STOLEN CRYPTO - HACK-ANGELS
Hello, my name is Peter Hartman. I'm 56 years old from Germany. My family and I were left with nothing after falling prey to a cryptocurrency investment fraud that took $807,000 in USDT and Bitcoins from us. We were quite fortunate to stumble across a post about HACK-ANGELS, a cryptocurrency and funds recovery organization with extensive cybersecurity knowledge. HACK-ANGELS was able to recover all of our cash, and they were tracked down and reported to the right authorities using the information we gave. In my opinion, you should use HACK-ANGELS to recover your cryptocurrency.

Crypto Winter Deepens as Bitcoin Falls Below $20,000 for First Time Since 2020
Tumblr media
Saturday saw Bitcoin fall below $20,000, marking the first time since December 2020 and indicating that the decline in cryptocurrency values has picked up momentum with no clear end in sight. Late Saturday afternoon, the price of the leading crypto coin was $17,787, representing a decline of 14 percent in a single day and over 35 percent since the previous weekend.  The crypto coin market has seen prices tumble amid several difficulties, including Coinbase's layoff of 18 percent of employees, Celsius announcing a suspension of withdrawals, challenges facing Three Arrows Capital (3AC) hedge fund, a drop in broader stock market values, and the Fed's decision this week to raise interest rates in an attempt to curb surging inflation. These difficulties follow the collapse of Terra's "stablecoin" and related coin, luna, last month, which sparked a sell-off. The decline in Bitcoin's value is of great importance, not just as an indicator, but also because it can cause other market sell-offs. This results in investors becoming uncertain and attempting to minimize losses as their held currencies decrease in value. Ethereum, a commonly used cryptocurrency, has experienced a similar dip as Bitcoin and slipped below $1,000 on Saturday, marking a low point not observed since January 2021. Ethereum's value has diminished by over 10 percent in the past 24 hours and 40 percent within the past week. In March 2020, during the pandemic's early stages, Bitcoin's value dropped to $6,000 before beginning a rally. Interest in digital investing surged as individuals looked for ways to pass the time and spend money while at home. The rise in prices could also be attributed to stimulus checks. In November, Bitcoin surpassed $61,000 but has been experiencing a steady decline since then. Many experts predict that this decrease will persist in the short term. According to Haohan Xu, CEO of Apifiny, the cryptocurrency sector's asset yield will decrease across the board due to the rate increase, and he shares the skepticism of others in the industry. The recent increase in interest rates by the Federal Reserve, the largest single hike in nearly three decades, has significantly affected the cryptocurrency market, especially those investors who obtain loans. Xu explained that borrowing is crucial for anyone involved in the crypto industry. Investment firms in the cryptocurrency world are heavily interconnected, and one company's losses can affect others due to their mutual positions. 3AC, which is a critical source of investment for many crypto startups, suffered losses after investing hundreds of millions of dollars in luna.  Bitcoin has experienced volatile price swings before, such as the "crypto winter" sell-off in 2018, which saw its price plummet from $14,000 to just $3,000 by year's end, but it gradually climbed back up to $9,000 by February 2020 and soared from there during the pandemic. Nobody is quite sure where the current bottom for bitcoin is due to economic uncertainty and the lack of a long, historical pattern.  However, more and more people are investing in cryptocurrency now than four years ago when it was considered a niche investment, according to a Pew study that found 16% of Americans have held cryptocurrencies at one point. Bitcoin drops under high selling pressure, what will cause its price to go up?
Bitcoin drops under high selling pressure, what will cause its price to go up?
Bitcoin and other major currencies have shown correlation between macroeconomic factors and virtual currencies. After the release of CPI data for August, almost all crypto assets started to decline. The report’s data showed a rise in inflation, an increase in fear and a collapse in cryptocurrency prices. The FOMC meeting was previously scheduled. But before the meeting, Bitcoin came under severe…
