My first show of 2023 was a killer noise show watching friends perform at The Boneyard. I really think this is going to be a big year for all of us, one where outsiders recognize that Chattanooga's noise and experimental music scene is a force to be reckoned with and we're not just a hub between Nashville and Atlanta to pass through without stopping. Fingers crossed.

May I see Tennessee. I would love to know if they ever are getting a Nyo. Also if they are I believe they will have long brown braided hair that is curly, freckles, Tennessee whiskey colored eyes and wear Tennessee vols shirts, blue jean shorts, brown cowgirl boots. She will also have a strong east Tennessee accent like from Knoxville county and be lesbian
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ofc ! here's my tennessee, lovely boy. his name's andrew "andy" crockett and he's the younger brother to arkansas, but older brother to oklahoma.
he has straw blond hair and light brown eyes, and is a bit short at 5'7.5" or 172 cm- he's literally in between italy and romano's heights. he's generally on the thinner side and struggles to gain muscle, but he is surprisingly strong for his build as well.
he's a genuinely nice, friendly, welcoming and compassionate guy- he's actually one of the politest states out there. all about that southern charm and hospitality, he loves hosting people and goes out of his way to make sure those around him are doing well. however, while he is rarely passive aggressive, he absolutely knows how to very creatively insult people if they push his buttons.
he really, really loves music. he's into many genres, such as country, rock n roll and the blues. his favorite artist is ofc dolly parton (he adores her so, so much) but he does really enjoy others like tina turner, aretha franklin, bessie smith and many others. he has a vast knowledge of music and the genres of country, rock n roll and the blues; he even knows how to play some music himself.
He's also into BBQ, caving, playing football, the outdoors and whiskey. He prides himself on being a bit of a whiskey connoisseur. He speaks English, Spanish, French, Arabic and a few Indigenous languages fluently. He speaks some Mandarin and German as well, but nowhere near full fluency.
He likes keeping his hair at shoulder length. He doesn't usually do much with it; he'll put it up in a full ponytail in the city, and a half up half down style when he's in the sticks. When he's at home, he wears it down. His hair is slightly shaggy in its style, which he likes. He's grown his hair much longer and much shorter than shoulder length, but that's his favorite style.
He spends most of his time outdoors or enjoying music. He owns five houses- in Memphis, Chattanooga, Nashville, Rutledge and Flag Pond. He spends the most time at his houses in Memphis, Nashville and Flag Pond, but especially at the latter two- he goes to Nashville when he's in a big music mood, and Flag Pond when he wants to be surrounded by the outdoors. He knows his way around the outdoors, and spend a lot of his childhood in it. He's in the younger half of the states, being physically 20 years old. He doesn't have a strict fashion sense either- while he does most often wear decorative tees and loose, scuffed up jeans, he pretty much will wear whatever's comfortable. He does have a good amount of specifically outdoorsy/caving/mountaineering clothes, along with a small amount of more western-y clothes like cowboy boots or stuff made specifically for horseback riding. He has a significant number of musician/band tees, though- ranging from his favorites of Dolly Parton and Aretha Franklin, to Tina Turner and Besse Smith, to even Miley Cyrus and Justin Timberlake.
Overall, he's a polite, well-mannered, friendly, welcoming and warm state that's easy to get along with !

602 628 wake me up at no specific time
Drug run island dunes so deserted so beautiful, truly odd, buildings with lights on, movement, but only me and my companion seemed to be there In an empty house, the lights worked, clean but old, always a toilet, birds in the one large room, wooden cabinets rabbit eared tv Why were they built so tall. Skyscraper houses on a hill in the forest, a beach going down, made it to the wooden walk but never saw the water (could smell and hear it) same way you know there's a dog in the kitchen
The in between zone, where dune meets forest, almost like a snowbank, but not cold at all, moonlit Animal crossing, ties back to my prayer at Cumberland walking litany of saturday Can you bleed out in a (storm) in a dream, is that what it feels like
*
Travelling to Philly via nashville visiting people both places, not exactly work but meetings, interviews, scary people outside movie theaters with penis dolls, had to buy something for a movie, they didn't have what I wanted, settled for granola, what is a gift shop that doesn't have what you want, flowers, goods, icons, I've driven this way before, Chattanooga, etc got to my hotel on the Susquehanna later than I planned and needed to stay, drank a latte, it was gonna be so many hours back figuring out how to wake up at midnight to drive home for work. This reminds me of another cross country dream, a long one, going from city to city criss crossing the night, adventure of my life,
Do you still remember how in Russellville there were no drinks in the restaurant, dry county, had to sleep sober with my boots on, ready to fly at the slightest noise

Good news everyone! Georgia has federal passenger train study funding!
Tumblr media
In combination with some great news about funding a lot of sorely needed railroad projects and studies at the federal level, Georgia’s U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock announced new grants to explore three new Georgia passenger rail corridors, made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
The new rail routes would connect major economic centers in Georgia and neighboring states, providing additional public transit options, increased mobility, and a sustainable, clean-energy future.
Tumblr media
Starting from Atlanta, the routes being studied are:
A route heading northward with stops likely in Marietta, Cartersville, Dalton and points north into Tennessee that would connect with Chattanooga and efforts in that state to create a line from there to Nashville.
Extending south and eastward, a route that would likely have intermediate stations in McDonough, Macon and end in Savannah with a connection to the Amtrak route linking Florida and DC on the east coast. There’s also the potential to create a branch that would go due south out of Macon, through Valdosta and link with Tampa or Orlando. It would be nice to get some two-state talks going with Florida on doing something together since Brightline is already plying the rails down there and its now a known quantity.
Perhaps the most interesting and likely first to get going is a high-speed line between Atlanta and Charlotte. The in-state routing on this one is not known, but it’d be very strange if Athens was missed. The growing South Carolina towns of Greenville/Spartanburg definitely and perhaps Anderson/Clemson would get stops depending on routing.
Another point of discussion is where exactly in Atlanta would these routes be emanating from; ATL’s current train station for Amtrak service on the thrice weekly Crescent service from DC to New Orleans is basically a glorified waiting room with rails and stairs that lead to Peachtree Rd just north of Midtown. There were some efforts to build a new multimodal station Downtown right across from the Five Points MARTA station, right where a bunch of railroad tracks pass through a trench. While we do need a world-class rail terminal for a world-class city like Atlanta (especially to help get a commuter rail service off the ground — more on that later,) let’s not ignore our 900-pound gorilla lying 8 miles south: Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Tumblr media
Literally the World’s Busiest Airport for 20+ years definitely needs to be tied into any long-distance (and commuter!) rail options here. The catchment area of passengers includes not just the entire state but anything that would beat a car ride from an area of about 200 miles in diameter around us. Every time I’ve been in one of Hartsfield’s parking garages, I’ve seen cars with South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee tags that are definitely not rentals. With frequent enough service, it could be very possible to simply leave the car and take the train to the airport and catch a flight. Most Americans can’t realize this convenience right now but take it from me after living in Japan for almost 20 years, being able to just hop a train even in the most remote parts of the area and get to Haneda, Narita, Kansai and Nagoya Centrair airports without worrying about long-term parking or begging for a ride from friends is a great thing.
According to Axios, how much of the $8.2 billion will wind up in Georgia for its rail project — or the timeline for the project’s start and completion is a big question mark. One thing I’d like to know is does some of this money help look into a regional rail solution here around Atlanta that’s desperately needed. Just like NYC, LA and Chicago, whatever helps the commuter rail network, would ultimately be good for the longer distance trains as well since they could share the tracks. That ATL Trains idea is still the best idea I’ve ever seen and really, REALLY needs to be formally studied with this money. Check out the 146-page prospectus yourself, it’s that good!
Tumblr media
Just like the Eisenhower Interstate Highway projects of the 1960s, the US really needs a rail renaissance in order to help face this brave new world of climate change, population and demographic shifts into sunbelt cities that didn’t keep up infrastructure-wise (building another lane isn’t cutting it Chief!) and the simple paradigm shift of decentralization in our metro areas in general– How many people do you know BEFORE the pandemic that worked “downtown?” OK, now how many people actually even go to an office every day? Our transportation network needs to be more dynamic and flexible to account for these shifts and overlaying a decent rail network, both nationally and locally, is paramount. This is in addition to dealing with improving road and air travel; those need to be sorted as well.

BLUE SKIES? WHAT IS THE BEST WEATHER FOR SKYDIVING?
Tumblr media
Jumping from an airplane at very high altitudes is what skydiving is all about. As such, it is considered one of the most extreme sports and depends on the weather. Skydivers get exposed to many different weather conditions in the air. Because of that, the weather can significantly impact skydiving because it can change how skydivers feel and react to certain situations. Take a look at how the weather can affect your skydiving experience and how you can have a fantastic jump regardless of the season. The following is a brief description of the weather and how it may affect your skydiving in the South East. So if you’re coming from the Atlanta Skydiving market, Georgia Skydiving market, Nashville Skydiving market, Knoxville Skydiving market, or The Chattanooga Skydiving market, this information is for you.
Generally, it’s a great time to go skydiving whenever the sun is out. The things that can prevent you from skydiving safely are rain, low clouds, or high gusty winds. When you see a local weather report, you might see % of rain. Well, that might mean all-day rain or, as in the summer, pop-up storms that won’t stop skydiving operations completely but may cause delays.
You might see a primarily cloudy forecast. Distinguishing between high or low clouds is the factor here.
A windy forecast, or BREEZY, as the weatherman likes to say, can preclude skydiving. Generally, early in the morning or late in the evening, these winds might diminish, but better to reschedule than risk injury with gusty winds.
Generally, the Chattanooga Skydiving Company will make weather decisions the morning or evening before a scheduled jump… Weather can be tricky, and each region has its own unique weather patterns. Weather can change quickly, so be patient.
The spring season is a beautiful time of year. The weather is warm and sunny, The views are clear and go on forever, the birds are singing, and the flowers are blooming. It’s a great time to go skydiving because it’s an exciting way to experience nature while having fun. While we may have to reschedule due to strong winds or spring showers occasionally, spring is a great time to get involved in skydiving.

What’s your favorite thing about where you live?
(I’m relatively new to the same region and struggling to make it feel like home; I would enjoy hearing your perspective on the area!)
As I'm sure most of you reading this know, I was born, raised, and currently live in the Chattanooga, TN area. Admittedly I hated living here growing up because there used to be nothing but dead air as far as arts and culture. A few years ago, however, this really started to change. The music scene got better, actually-popular bands started playing at venues here, and the art scene also started exploding. My desires to move started drying up once I saw all of the positive changes happening around me.
Aside from the art and music scene in Chattanooga, my favorite thing about this city is that it's smack in the center of what I call "the box", meaning that there are four cities each within two hours of Chattanooga forming four corners - Nashville, Knoxville, Atlanta, and Birmingham. It's so easy to travel back and forth between each city and to catch shows there. Atlanta especially is like a second home to me and I have a lot of friends there. Funny enough, my Atlanta friends come to Chattanooga as their getaway, too.

2023 Volkswagen ID4 AWD First Drive: Are We Happy, Now?
New Post has been published on https://medianwire.com/2023-volkswagen-id4-awd-first-drive-are-we-happy-now/
2023 Volkswagen ID4 AWD First Drive: Are We Happy, Now?
Tumblr media
The 2023 Volkswagen ID4 all-electric SUV is now assembled in Chattanooga, Tenn., just in time for the federal government’s landmark Inflation Reduction Act that requires localized material sourcing and production for EVs to qualify for new incentives. The U.S. ID4 didn’t just change its address, it also comes with a slew of feature and capability updates that the European and Chinese markets won’t get. It now comes with more powertrain options, new colors, an updated interior, light-up VW logos, as well as an all-new entry-level model at a lower price point.
What’s New With the U.S.-Built ID4?
The major update to the ID4 lineup for the U.S. in 2023 is the newly-introduced, smaller 62 kWh (58 kWh usable) battery pack size, which is available on the RWD Standard and RWD S models. The single rear motor powertrain setup maintains 201 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque; the compromise comes with range, which falls to 209 miles—a drop of around 40 miles, depending on trim, compared to the 82-kWh battery offering. The new model lowers the entry point for the ID4 model range, which now starts at $38,790 before incentives.
The ID4 Standard features minimal badging, a metal panel roof instead of glass, it lacks an illuminated front light bar and LED projector headlights, and it swaps the otherwise standard 20-inch wheels for 19s. The biggest cosmetic change beyond the paint and wheels in the ID4 updates is the new rear VW badge, which lights up red now on all but the base models.
Across the range, the ID4 gets a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen standard and introduces a new center console that replaces the previous ID4 iteration’s awkward front armrests and cubbies. It also now gets in-unit charge-routing navigation for finding a place to fill up, and an updated suite of advanced driver safety assistance features including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, park assist, and a new automatic lane change assist feature.
Change Is Good
Considering the upgrades to the 2023 ID4 are mostly either cosmetic or have minimal impact on performance, our driving impressions aren’t much different from the previous ID4s we’ve tested. That’s to say, the ID4 offers a very comfortable and smooth ride, with adequate acceleration and tight handling, in a comfortable package with tons of standard features. It’s safe to say the ID4’s dual-motor AWD system is meant more for navigating gravel, snow, and fire roads, or whatever the vehicle’s clearance limits would allow. Certainly nothing hardcore (unless you’re in VW’s Baja race-prepped ID4s we drove a couple years ago).
We took an ID4 AWD Pro S on a day trip from Nashville to Chattanooga on both highways and curvy and hilly back roads with no charging between stops. I managed to go 229 miles out of the advertised 255 miles the AWD Pro S model offers on a single charge, arriving at my destination with 0 percent charge and 0 miles of range remaining. I had actually driven a handful of miles after I hit zero, and came away impressed that the car didn’t strand me on the side of the road. (For context, another AWD Pro S on the same journey arrived with 27 percent and 90 miles remaining.)
Considering I’d only switched from “D” driving mode to “B” near the end of my trip, which offers increased energy regeneration to charge the battery, it’s likely I could have preserved more range and gone further had I operated in “B” entirely. I’m also sure the sustained highway speeds also ultimately zapped away a few miles I could have used. In theory, the ID4’s “plug-and-play” relationship with Electrify America stations, which lets you pull up, plug the car in and automatically start charging if your account is set up, would have made it very easy to stop for a charge.
Inside, the standard 12-inch touchscreen display is bright and easy to reach from the driver’s seat, offering physical buttons for the main menu categories and haptic touch buttons for temperature and volume control. The new center console setup now offers more storage space and a phone charging pad, and the previous year’s cloth seats have been upgraded to standard new mélange fabric and leatherette, and offer plenty of support and comfort for at least 200 miles of sitting. The newly introduced “Galaxy” interior color on S, Pro S, and AWD Pro S would be the one to get, bringing in blue accents on top of a white steering wheel and white seats.
The estimated 6-second run to 60 mph for the ID4 AWD Pro models could be considered slow for a modern AWD EV; however, the more relaxed power delivery is progressive and actually comfortable. Passing another vehicle at high speed, however, resulted in less-than-desirable acceleration, so only pass if you know you have the room.
Some Gripes Persist
The ID4 comes with four drive modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport, and a configurable custom mode. Each slightly tweaks the throttle mapping of the electric motors and the steering heft. However, the differences between each mode are hardly distinct enough to make a significant alteration to most day-to-day driving. You’re not missing out on much if you drive it exclusively in Eco to save on range. All-wheel drive ID4s come with a tow hitch equipped and are rated to tow 2,700 pounds.
Despite some interior updates, the dashboard and infotainment setup carry over for 2023, as do our gripes with the system. The haptic piano-black controls for the volume and temperature settings would be better and easier to use for the driver as real buttons. Some touch points on the foot-wide screen, like the heated seat activation, only appear on the left side, far away from where a passenger can reach it.
Our test car really struggled with Apple CarPlay on two occasions, forcing me to make the computer “forget” my device in the car’s system to launch at all, and the second instance we had to hard-reset the car by powering it off, taking the key out, walking away and coming back. VW’s engineers believed it was likely an issue with the most recent version of CarPlay, but they would say that, wouldn’t they?
Comfort Over Gimmicks
The ID4 is a tricky one to write about, mostly because it does such a good job at being a regular Volkswagen SUV that also just happens to be a decent EV. There’s no real moonshot here; VW is focused on delivering a comfortable and practical package, and there aren’t any gimmicks. It may not have anything that particularly stands out, but the comfortable ride and extensive powertrain options makes the ID4 still worth considering against the likes of the Nissan Ariya, Tesla Model Y, and Ford Mustang Mach-E.
