RAF and Italian Air Force sign agreement for cross-maintenance of fighters

The British Royal Air Force has signed a formal agreement with the Italian Air Force that paves the way for the service and maintenance of the Eurofighter Typhoon and F-35B Lightning aircraft of each.

The signing of the implementation agreement follows the Declaration of Intent "Long History, Long Future: Tornado to Tempest" signed at RAF Marham last May. Agrees on the financial, legal and airworthiness principles for mutual maintenance and cross-service on common platforms, aircraft and weapon systems.

Once established, RAF engineers will be able to perform limited cross-maintenance services and activities on Italian Air Force aircraft, and vice versa, during exercises and operational Air Policing around the world.

The measure is part of broader NATO Employment in Agile Combat initiatives to improve the mutual operational advantage of nations by operating better together.

The agreement was signed at Amendola Air Base on behalf of the RAF by the RAF Support Director, Deputy Air Marshal Shaun Harris, and for the Italian Air Force by Generale Michele Oballa, Logistics Command of the Italian Air Force.

The ability to interoperate on the ground, providing engineering support to NATO partners, is increasing the agility and speed of response of combat air forces. This important agreement between the RAF and the Italian Air Force will strengthen the interoperability of the Typhoon and F-35 and lay the foundations for the cross-service of the Global Air Combat Program (GCAP).

In the next 12 months, the RAF and the Italian Air Force will jointly develop, exercise and validate the technical and administrative processes and procedures to achieve the full operational capacity of Typhoon and F-35 by 2025.

Not the same person who asked you that question but I understand what they’re saying. We got gorgeous portraits in gowns for Ingrid and Amalia and even Alexia this year for their 18th birthdays. I understand the Spanish monarchy will never have a state dinner for Leonor like we saw this year for Ingrid and Christian but I agree I’d like to see more formal portraits than the one of her in that blue t-shirt. I do believe we will get them come tomorrow.

There were not portraits in gowns for the 18th birthdays of Amalia or Alexia (nor for Elisabeth's) nor were their portraits particularly formal. White tie 18th birthday parties seem to be an exclusively Scandinavian monarchy thing nowadays (Scandinavian monarchies tend to use white tie much more than the other Europea monarchies) and haven't been replicated in the Benelux or in Spain.

Leonor's photo that's being used in the Madrid streets has not been released by Casa Real and is not an official portrait, It was taken by the Royal Mint for the likeness for a conmemorative 40 euro coin for her 18th birthday. I do think they will release new official photos for her birthday but Leonor has been everywhere this month and we have seen her in a variety of situations (Military events, National Day, evening ceremony and concert at the Princess of Asturias awards, morning audiences and informal Asturian village award) and the press and the public has a real and recent idea and lots of media (photos, videos etc). There's no real need to see new pictures if she's seen in public a lot and on her birthday there will be live broadcast of Leonor swearing an Oath to the Constitution and to the King, greeting the powers of the State, attending a military parade in her honor, going from Parliament to the Royal Palace, receiving the Collar of the Order of Carlos III, making a speech at the Royal Palace, greeting the lucheon guests... It's going to be much more powerful than any official photo could ever be.

It's very likely that the first time Leonor wears a tiara Will be for a very important State Visit to Spain.

When I'm back home I have to look into lore books again about Benelux Union and the Netherlands. I think I've read parts of the Netherlands are under water. This is why I chose mainly Amsterdam for Thyjs' birthplace.

I'd like for him that he lived in Noordwijk during his childhood and/or teens. The place looks so nice.

But since he's also a soldier to the bone I've read the royal army has its headquarters in Utrecht. I know it is not necessary to stay this close to reality but I'd like it to be. So I may ponder about it for a while or keep in mind when I start Thyjs backstory.

I can see Thyjs lived in Amsterdam maybe for a bit or had to be there for some reasons for a time being but I do not see him as a big city guy. Amsterdam is nice but a very big city (somehow I did not remember that?) I picture him mostly as a young boy bicycling around in the fields and dunes like Noordwijk, spending time in the grass, Looking at flowers, watching ducks swimming in the small grachts everywhere or just spending time at the sand beaches feeling the wind blowing around him.

And then he gets to be a soldier, somewhere further inland. Fields, forests. Etc.

as a new royal fan i can conclude from carl gustav's jubilee celebration is that we can actually put the the kingdom into category such as the scandinavian, benelux, then there's grand prix goers for the monegasque, the spanish who's trying to recover their institute after their former king's scandals, and the brf who is currently dealing with the 2nd sons and other realms, and whole bunch of deposed royals who trying to be relevant as always

Hello!! I am absolutely loving your post-s2 exploration it is so delightful and real and I am just loving it!! One HC I have had for ages that I just don’t see enough of is that realistically Wille probably would be fluent in multiple languages…. A working knowledge minimum of Spanish is highly likely for most European royals and I just think that would be so interesting to explore!!! Like the class differences between speaking multiple languages is so major (and maybe this HC is just completely self service as someone who was always made fun of for speaking a different language at home and thus I’m projecting onto Simon) and anyway just something I have been thinking about extra prompted from your writing …… love you work so much!!

thank you for you lovely words! I am delighted to tell you that Wille speaking some Spanish was not just a throwaway comment at the beginning of the fic.

I, too, am very sure that Wille speaks more than just Swedish and the compulsory English he has to learn in school.

For one I like the idea that Ludvig is not Swedish by birth, but foreign nobility (which considering Kristina's generation makes a lot of sense despite her having children quite late), and that because of that Erik and Wilhelm were raised bilingual just like the irl children of the Swedish King were. I haven't decided which yet--Danish, German or Norwegian seem like lazy options but they kinda make the most sense--but yes. Bilingual Wille ftw. Additionally I think it's a given that most (continental) European nobility speaks French and German either fluently or well enough depending. BeNeLux, MC and FL obviously, but also the rest.

I'm not sure I'd say a working knowledge of Spanish is highly likely for most European royals (or Europeans in general, Spanish being offered as a third language has only become a thing in maybe the last decade or two in most European countries I'm familiar with), but it's also not unlikely, and Wille speaking Spanish (and potentially more but so far I only have concrete plans for Spanish) will definitely be explored in future chapters, because just like you I love the idea.

Especially because the Spanish Wille learned differs drastically from the one Simon speaks at home, and not just when it comes to pronunciation, and as a linguist by trade (although admittedly the only Romance language I speak is, like, six years of school French which doesn't count) I find that intiguing and delightful, and it'll make for hilarious moments (spoiler) during Easter and the Summer holidays (because Wilmon only going to Solliden is boring).
