Curious squad announcements
England squad for ODI series against New Zealand: Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes.
I mean, it’s incredibly similar to the squad of four years ago that won and won dramatically, which is mainly good. I mean, they absolutely won on a wing and a prayer, but the same team will have the same wings and prayers, so. I’m curious if S Curran will be in the starting XI. Probably - hopefully - and it seems to me that he’s the one projected to take on the Ben Stokes, batting-six-and-there-at-the-end role, and he doesn’t seem ready for that now so I guess the inclusion of Stokes is good. Just, you know, it’s better if everyone arrives in India with the Captain able to move.
I’m a bit surprised by the inclusion of Jason Roy. He hasn’t done much for a while. I guess I’m pleased in the sense that I like loyalty to players, but I was expecting Jacks, Crawley and Foakes and they have all contributed more to recent matches (although admittedly in different formats). But I’m also pleased because I have loyalty to players and if J-Roy can find some form with Jonny, England will stand in incredible stead.
Leaving out Harry Brook though.
Chuffed for David Willey.
England squad for T20 series against New Zealand: Jos Buttler (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Josh Tongue, John Turner, Luke Wood.
Yay, Will Jacks! I think he might be the crucial test player of the future so it’s nice to see him beginning to be included. Also great to see more Rehan Ahmed.
I wondered about Crawley, but the red ball and white ball teams seem to be pulling away from each other to some degree, so I’m not that surprised.
No Dan Lawrence in either format, which is a shame.
I don’t recall Gus Atkinson when Surrey have played Middlesex but I guess he must be something. Surrey are certainly an extremely strong side - the white ball team isn’t a million miles from a Surrey 1st XI. Which brings me to…
Seriously. Has Foakes set fire to a pavilion? Murdered a groundskeeper? Chained himself to The Oval and refused to leave?

Did Ben Foakes Cross the Line with Bumrah's Stumping Attempt?
Tumblr media
Summary: “Spirit of Cricket” controversy sparked an outrage on the social media platforms when Ben Foakes tried to stump Jasprit Bumrah during the first test series.
The first test took place in hyderabad, causing a massive outrage among the cricket fans on the social media platform because of the stumping attempt made by England wicket-keeper Ben Foakes against the Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah.
Bumrah was delivering a ball from Tom Hartley, but couldn’t make a connection, and Ben Foakes collected the ball. Out of frustration Bumrah jumped in the air while inside the crease and Foakes tried to stump him. This whole act was disappointing for the cricket fans and they took out all their frustration on social media in the name of “Spirit of Cricket.”
This coming from England was a hypocritical behavior, because when in the Ashes 2023 series, Australian wicket-keeper Alex Carey tried to stump Jonny Bairstow, there was a “Spirit of Cricket” outrage as well. At the time, England Captain Ben stokes said regarding the matter, “Would I want to win a game in that manner? The answer is no.”
A viewer on X, formerly Twitter wrote, “Real spirit of the game stuff there from Foakes. No doubt McCullum would’ve run onto the field and ordered Bumrah back to the crease if he was out.” while another wrote, “For the record, Foakes shouldn’t even be attempting to stump Bumrah like that. Absolute bullshit. England can’t complain about Bairstow/Carey and then do that sort of thing.”
Furthermore, Indian fast bowler, Japrit Bumrah was also berated for the ‘inappropriate physical contact’ with Ollie Pope by the international cricket council on monday. This incident happened when Bumrah was bowling to Ollie pope, and when the batter was running between the wickets, Bumrah deliberately stepped into his way to stop him from taking runs.
Since Bumrah deliberately broke the ICC code and “admitted the office and accepted the sanction”, a demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record.
During a match a player cannot emerge in an “inappropriate physical contact” with another player, umpire or any other person. This could lead to a penalty of an official reprimand, 50% of players match fee and a one or two demerit point to the disciplinary record.

Bumrah stars as India down England to level Test series
Tumblr media
Quick BOWLER Jasprit Bumrah took a match take of nine wickets to lead India's 106-run prevail over Britain in the second Test on Monday (5) and level the five-match series.
Pursuing a record 399 for triumph, Britain were bowled for 292 in the second meeting on day four in Visakhapatnam, regardless of a going after start and Zak Crawley's 73.
Bumrah and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who finished the match on 499 Test wickets, took three each in the last innings and the speed lead bowled Tom Hartley to finish the success.
Shubman Gill set up the rebound triumph for the hosts with his 104 on day three to set Britain, who won the opener, an overwhelming objective.
Britain showed up ready to brawl with their "Baseball" image of cricket, Crawley and company hitting limits in spite of losing wickets.
Left-arm spinner Axar Patel got through when he caught Rehan Ahmed lbw for 23, after the nightwatchman hit five fours in his 31-ball thump.
Ollie Pope pounded five boundaries in his short stay at the wicket, before Ashwin had him at slip on 23.
Joe Root gave no indications of the finger injury which kept him out of the field for quite a bit of Sunday (4) as he switched for two fours.
Be that as it may, he fell for 16 while endeavoring a trudge off Ashwin, who stays one away from entering the 500-wicket club.
The pursuit before long lost steam with two wickets in five balls before lunch, including Crawley out lbw off left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
The lbw request was turned somewhere around the on-field umpire yet India effectively investigated the call.
Jonny Bairstow followed only four balls later, with Britain at 194-6.
Skipper Ben Stirs up endeavored to get the pursuit in the groove again after lunch, yet an immediate hit by Shreyas Iyer had the left-hander abandon 11 after he hoped to take a speedy single.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Ben Foakes (36) and the left-given Hartley (likewise 36) put on a difficult stand of 55 however Bumrah got through to get Foakes captured and bowled.
However, the Three Lions adhered to their brave style, which has got them 14 successes in 20 matches under mentor Brendon McCullum, nicknamed "Baz", and Stirs up.
Bumrah assumed a critical part with his six wickets in Britain's first-innings total of 253 as the travelers surrendered a significant lead of 143.
Veteran Britain pace bowler James Anderson got done with a match take of five wickets to take his count to 695 in a sparkling Test profession, which started in 2003.
The third Test begins February 15 in Rajkot and the groups will have some time off in advance, with Britain expected to travel to the Assembled Middle Easterner Emirates for the week.

IND vs ENG: Dream11 Prediction Match 2nd Test, India vs England Test Series 2024
Tumblr media
England stunned India when they registered a win out of nowhere in Hyderabad. Traling by 190 runs, England showed a lot of character and went on to register a historic win by 28 runs. That certainly pushed India back to some extent. Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul are also not part of the second test due to injuries. So it will be a big challenge for India. The second test will start on Friday at the VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. England will be confident after beating India in the first game, while the hosts need to pull up their socks. IND vs ENG: Match Details Date: 02 February, 2024 (Friday) Time: 09:30 am I.S.T. Venue: Dr. Y.S. Spinner Bashir's Visa Issue; Stokes Frustrated
The England cricket team received a big blow ahead of the first Test against India as young spinner Shoaib Bashir had to return home because of an unresolved visa issue. Bashir was to join the rest of his teammates in Hyderabad but the player with his roots in Pakistan couldn't find a resolution in time for the series opener. England skipper Ben Stokes admitted being frustrated because of the issue, saying he feels for the player who was in the running for a spot in the playing XI for the first Test.
Tumblr media
Bashir was training with the England team in the Abu Dhabi camp ahead of his India arrival but with his visa application denied, the spinner had to return to the United Kingdom.
Stokes admitted that it's frustrating to see a player being denied a chance to participate in the match because of a non-sporting reason.
"We announced that squad in mid-December, and now Bash finds himself without a visa to get here. I am more frustrated for him. I didn't want this type of situation to be his first experience of what it's like to be in the England Test team. I feel for him," Stokes told ESPNcricinfo on the matter.
"But he's not the first cricketer to go through this, I have played with a lot of people who have had the same issues. I find it frustrating that we have picked a player and he's not with us because of visa issues. Especially for a young lad, I'm devastated for him. It's a frustrating situation to be in, but a lot of people have been trying to get it through. It's unfortunate and I'm very frustrated for him," he added.
England's Test squad: Ben Stokes (c), James Anderson, Rehan Ahmed, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Shoaib Bashir, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ben Foakes (wk), Dan Lawrence, Tom Hartley, Jack Leach, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Mark Wood.
