doing some research for peakyverse in a desperate attempt to jumpstart my brain with ideas and i'm just gonna leave some of my history lesson notes here for the moment
The FBI, originally known just as the Bureau of Investigation (or BOI) was founded in 1908, renamed in 1935 (this actually has less to do with this verse and more to do with the R/DR universe as a whole but i wanted to include it anyway)
The Bureau initially focused on white-collar and civil rights cases, including antitrust, land fraud, banking fraud, naturalization and copyright violations, and forced labor. They did handle some matters of national security such as treason and anarchist activity in the States but it was not their main focus until later on, during World War I.
After America declared war against Germany in 1917, the Bureau expanded to include counter-spy business. They were also given the job of rounding up Army deserters and policing millions of German immigrants who were not registered as American citizens.
In 1917, the Bolsheviks took over Russia, causing many Americans to become nervous about talk of worldwide revolution.
Also occurring in 1917, a Russian-born man named Emilio Kosterlitzky joined the FBI at the age of 63. He was appointed a special employee and given more authority due to his extensive military experience and strong international connections. (Emilio's story serves as partial inspiration for my fictional creation Leonid Sokolov, however instead of helping the Bureau as the real life counterpart did, Leonid eventually betrays them and intends to divulge their military intelligence to the Russians.)
On December 2nd, 1919; a US Army deserter named William N. Bishop escaped from Camp A.A. Humphreys (now known as Fort Belvoir) in the northern regions of Virginia. The Military Intelligence division of the Army requested the Bureau's help in finding the soldier and assistant director Frank Burke compiled a heavily detailed profile that was released on December 15th as Identification Order No. 1.
Wanted posters existed well before this obviously, but this was the first time any official government crime-fighting organization had published one. It would put the Bureau firmly in the business of catching fugitives for decades to come and make the Identification Order a staple of criminal catching.
Caleb, having been drafted as a soldier during the war, finds employment with the Bureau after its conclusion. He thinks he's doing the right thing, he doesn't realize how corrupt the Bureau actually is or how many innocents have been harmed because of their protocols.
If/WHEN he finds this out and realizes he can't support this cause of his anymore, he abandons the job, effectively becoming a criminal and a fugitive himself.

Civil War Artillery Shell Discovered at Gettysburg
An unexploded artillery shell was discovered at Gettysburg National Military Park on Feb. 8, host to one of the bloodiest but most decisive battles of the Civil War.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal soldiers with the Army’s 55th Ordnance Company safely removed and destroyed the device, determined to be a 3-inch Burton case shot, according to an official statement.
“This type of munition was historically used during the Civil War and most likely came from the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863,” Capt. Matthew D. Booker, commander of the 55th Ordnance Company, noted.
Steven Brann, a contract archeologist, found the artillery shell while doing a ground sweep of the Little Round Top area, which is under renovation. The hill saw some of the most intense action between Union and Confederate troops during the three-day 1863 conflict, which ended in a Union victory and marked a key turning point in the Civil War.
After traveling from Fort Belvoir, Virginia, the soldiers carried the 10-pound shell to an alternate location, dug a hole, and placed it there along with C4 explosives to blow it up, Jason Martz, a spokesman for the military park said.
“We’re never going to know whether the thing was live or not,” Martz told the Washington Post. “And we’re never going to know how that shell got to the point where we found it.”
Though rare, this is not the first time unexploded munitions were recovered from Gettysburg. In August 2022, a 3-inch Hotchkiss shell was found lodged in a historic building being refurbished, the Army statement said.
Antique munitions from various conflicts are still being found across the United States and the world.
In February 2022, archeologists found a 10-pound Civil War shell at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park in Georgia. In December 2022, five construction workers were hospitalized after being exposed to a gas released from striking a World War II-era phosphorous bomb while doing work at Army Garrison Stuttgart, Germany.

Name: David Alexander Age: 51 Town Occupation: Leader of the Hunters Previous Occupation: Special Forces Sniper in the U.S. Army Redwood Resident Length: 2 years Faceclaim: Jeremy Renner
Bullet Points
David lives in a small cabin by the farm.
David never drank. Growing up with an alcoholic, abusive father, he hated what alcohol did and never found himself having the urge to touch the stuff.
He’s haunted by the death of his team and having to kill his friend. He blames himself for what happened - he should have known his teammate had snuck into the town and should have stopped him before he did.
Before he arrived at Redwood, he came across a stray puppy German Shephard. The puppy looked to be in good health and after monitoring it to make sure it wasn’t infected, he kept her. He named her Roxy and Roxy often goes out with him on hunts to keep him company and trained her to be on alert to let him know if there were any infected nearby.
Biography:
David Alexander was born and raised on a farm outside of Fredricksburg, Texas. His mother was an angel and doted on her son, but his father…his father was the literal devil. He would beat his mother and when David was older, he would beat his son too. The first twelve years of his life was hell whenever his father was around. When it was just his mother and him, everything was great. But the moment his father stumbled through the door, it would all go to hell. David begged his mom to leave their father, afraid that one day he would kill her or both of them, but his mother was afraid that he would find them, no matter where they went. When he was twelve, his father had gotten really drunk and came at them with a knife. David doesn’t remember much but he remembered grabbing the shotgun to try and get him away from them and then a loud bang.
Police came moments later and after his mother told them the whole story, they ruled it as self-defense and his mom took David to live with her sister in Louisiana. For the first year after the incident, David really didn’t talk to anyone. He was still coming to grips with the fact that he had taken a human life. Sure, it was the life of an alcoholic, abusive bastard, but it was still a life. His uncle decided to try and help and took David on a hunting trip. They had a good talk and after killing a few bucks, they returned home and David felt much better. He was back to being a happy, pre-teen boy. In fact, the hunting trip would become a reoccurring event up until he was eighteen. It was something he looked forward to every year.
During high school, he tried to think about what he wanted to do once he graduated. And since he loved hunting, he figured why not put that passion to use and joined the Army. He worked his way through the ranks and joined the Special Forces as a sniper. He went on numerous missions and was one of the most accurate snipers their team had to offer. Often their team would be called up for a mission with respect to their high success rate. David took pride in his word, however with the frequency of their missions and movements, David never had time to settle down and have a family. It was something he wanted and with his retirement right around the corner, he figured he could wait a few years longer to start that family.
Of course, he never counted on a zombie outbreak. His team was at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, preparing for a mission when they were called to Maryland. Their orders - maintain the perimeter. They had been told of an infection that was making its way out of Bethesda and they were on orders to keep anyone from leaving. It seemed simple but what David didn’t bank on was that one of his teammates had gone into the quarantine zone and became infected. By the time David found out, it was too late. His friend killed his team and would have gotten David too if David hadn’t killed him before he got near.
On his own now, David used his training to survive on his own for as long as he could. He would never stay in one spot for long, living off the land and avoiding raiders and infected at any cost. He listened for any survivor camps and after checking to see if he could find a few, he found nothing but ruin and infection. He was starting to think that these camps were just myths to instill hope in the survivors of the outbreak. But then he came across Redwood and his view was changed. He hadn’t planned on staying for long, thinking that the longer he stayed in one place the more at risk they would all be at, but he wound up finding himself a nice home here.

'Freedom!': Briton and four Americans released in Iran prisoner swap arrive in US | World News
Tumblr media
Five Americans Released from Iranian Prison Arrive in the US In a heartwarming moment, five individuals who were held captive in Iran have made their way back to American soil. Their release came about through a somewhat controversial deal between the United States and Iran, involving the unlocking of nearly $6 billion in frozen Iranian assets. One of the released individuals, Morad Tahbaz, is a conservationist with citizenship in the UK, the US, and Iran. He was joined by four other individuals with dual US-Iranian citizenship, including businessmen Siamak Namazi and Emad Sharghi. This release marked an emotional reunion between these former prisoners and their loved ones, taking place at an army airfield at Fort Belvoir in Virginia. With tears of joy, they embraced their families and celebrated their newfound freedom. Their arrival, in the early hours of Tuesday morning, was met with applause and cheers from the gathered crowd. Siamak Namazi, the first to step off the plane, took a moment to savor the fresh air of freedom. Close friends and family, some holding small American flags, welcomed them back, exchanging greetings in both English and Farsi, the primary language spoken in Iran. Babak Namazi, Siamak's brother, joined by their father Baquer, a former detainee in Iran himself, expressed the relief of the moment, saying, "The nightmare is finally over. We haven't had this moment in over eight years. It's unbelievable." Emad Sharghi's sister, Neda, presented him with a US flag and a toy stuffed animal that their father had received 30 years ago during bypass surgery, creating a touching family moment. All five of them had been imprisoned on espionage charges at Iran's notorious Evin prison, where Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was also held. The identities of the fourth and fifth prisoners have not yet been disclosed. In a statement as the plane carrying the group landed in Doha, Qatar, President Biden expressed, "Today, five innocent Americans who were imprisoned in Iran are finally coming home."
