WHICH SYMBOLIC FRUIT ARE YOU?
Cherry. (Man, this is going to need some tag rambling; because while it's what I suspected and it's very fitting in many ways, I need to address one element).
In popular culture, cherries have come to represent sensuality, sex, and seduction. In the cult classic, Twin Peaks, Audrey Horne expresses her sexual expertise by tying a cherry stem with her tongue. "Cherry" is also used to refer to the concept of virginity: why? I don't know to be honest, but here we are. Much like the cherry, you're a sensual person who enjoys all the creature comforts the world offers. You enjoy delicious food, dynamic relationships, passionate lovemaking and stimulating conversation; however, you may also come across a touch vapid or shallow, due to your quickly fading attention when something has served its usefulness to you. To quote some man on tinder: "you're here for a good time, not a long time". You can come across, at times, slightly tart, carrying a bit of a bite to you that not everyone can handle. That’s okay: you’re an acquired taste!

Saw Back to Black (2024) tonight and I'm not going to lie to y'all. I actually quite enjoyed it like it was a decent film- not at all perfect and the most accurate or like. y'know. thing in the world obviously but I actually found it enjoyable for the most part
Also I saw it with my mum and she was sobbing literally five minutes in during that Fly Me To the Moon section

honestly the thing that baffles me the most about all the disney “live action” remakes is that they won’t touch the live action adaptations that not only existed long before their remake plans, but have been WILDLY successful!!!
the theater/broadway adaptations of beauty and the beast, the little mermaid, and the fucking LION KING??
disney, you already own all of this material. why are you dumping money into mediocre remakes when you already have the exact thing you’re looking for, but better??

Do you have a list anywhere of Chinese films you recommend? I'm a first year student of the language (Mandarin) at uni, so there's a lot of stuff I obviously won't get, but any sorta cultural resources would be nice.
for mandarin-language films, i would recommend hero (2002), to live (1994), farewell my concubine (1993), eat drink man woman (1994), ash is purest white (2018) (not entirely in mandarin, but an incredibly good film), a touch of zen (1971), the big road (1935), detention (2019), a world without thieves (2004), and red cliff (2008-09). i'm not sure how these films are for language education, but a lot of them are really interesting explorations of cultural perspectives and societal problems faced by china and taiwan, and there should be enough styles and genres represented that you can find one that resonates with you and watch more like it :)
