also i can say for sure now that doki doki literature club is extremely vanilla in a way that makes wonder if maybe they were aware of and inspired by japanese visual novels that explore violent and heavy themes while ultimately being way less horrific as to make the game more accessible to an average western gamer who is not familiar with fucked up things
