the way bronlies are so obsessed that they’ve just become sam in the way they don’t like/won’t allow dean to have other friends 😭
it’s crazy to me, especially for a question whose different answers are both true to an extent bc your definition of “knowing somebody” is totally subjective!
lol that said, i am curious, soo… who do you think knows dean best, sam or cas? somebody else? do you think it changes over the seasons?
One of my friends was just saying that about bronlies and Sam sjhbfhsdhjf. Truly tho they're more insufferable than Sam's ever been. Bronlies are every spoiled child antagonist in every children's book. The Veruca Salt's of fandom. Miserable little cry baby brats screaming throwing tantrums trying to hit everyone with their baby rattlers... over Supernatural (2005) POLLS.
Their indignantion at that poll is pretty hilarious, because Sam doesn't start out the series actually knowing who Dean is at all. He thinks he knows who Dean is, but he doesn't, and this is illustrated to us over a dozen times in season 1. I do think Sam grows to understand who Dean is better over time, but he still sucks at understanding Dean for the vast majority of the series, because in many ways, he doesn't actually care to stop and think and study who Dean is and ask himself whether he actually knows him. He prefers an image he's made up in his head of who Dean is instead—an image that comforts him or bolsters his own self-image in some way. Dean is smart when Sam wants him to be smart and stupid when Sam needs to feel smarter (1.10, 1.16, 4.12, 8.14). Dean is strong when Sam wants him to be strong and weak when Sam needs to feel like the strongest person around (4.10, 4.11, 4.14, 4.16, 4.20, 4.21). Dean isn't opening up enough (2.02, 2.03, 2.04), then Dean is too emotional and soft and needs to get over it (2.10, 2.11, 2.14, 4.14, 4.16). Dean is a protector and nurturer who is failing to nurture and/or protect Sam adequately (3.09, 4.04, 8.23), then Dean is smothering (5.07, 8.20).
Basically, because Sam spends so much time trying to force Dean to fit into the shape he wants Dean to fit into, instead of actually trying to understand who Dean is, he often (unknowingly in some cases) completely lacks insight into who Dean actually is, and I'd say while he gets better at recognizing this, and better at understanding who Dean really is over time, surrounding certain subjects (especially things like grief), this refusal to see the actual real Dean continues through the entire run of the show (ex: 13.04).
I guess the question is then... is Cas actually better at understanding Dean than Sam is? And for me? Honestly I think it's a wash. I don't actually think either of them is Mr Amazing Perfect Dean Understander to be quite honest with you. I mean—practically Dean and Cas's entire schtick is perpetual misunderstandings bolstered by their own insecurities? They understand the important parts like that they each have good intentions and are good hearted, but I don't think Cas ever really understood how their repeated cycle of conflict made Dean feel. I don't think he ever understood how deeply entwined Dean's well-being became with his own, to the point that Dean was Not Fucking Okay when Cas was dead. I think Cas had a leg up in getting genuine insights into Dean's feelings straight from Dean for a long time because of the childhood dynamics and previous events that have made using Sam as a confidant uncomfortable and/or unsafe for Dean (2.03, 2.11, 4.14, 4.21, 5.01, 5.02, 5.03). I think Cas also understands Dean’s feelings more than he lets on and often acts on his perceptions of Dean's feelings without communicating those perecptions to anyone (and sometimes he's right... but sometimes he's also very VERY wrong).
We get a sort of back and forth with Sam and Cas understanding or not understanding different aspects of Dean's feelings or behavior. Think about "Nihilism" for example, when Sam and Cas walk through the darkness of Dean's mind, and Cas is shocked by the amount of trauma in Dean's mind and Sam just says, "Well. Yeah." But then compare that with 10.03 "Soul Survivor" where Cas was able to explain to Sam why demon Dean didn't want to be cured no matter how much blood they gave him. Sam didn't understand, but Cas understood Dean's perspective immediately (and that entire episode was a scathing commentary on Sam's lack of insight into Dean tbqh).
All of that said, I think I did vote in that poll and I picked Cas, and I would do it again. :) In fact, I will vote against Sam in any moment of uncertainty in any poll I see going forward, because bronlies are pathetic cry baby brats victimizing themselves 24/7 over Tumblr polls and can get fucked.

My toxic trait is getting pissed every time someone gets the Rolling with Difficulty timeline wrong (hint, that’s every time someone guesstimates how long it’s been since an Event) bc I did all the math out from the earliest known event that is a solid amount of time before another event in the chain to the end of season 4, anyways timeline under the cut, from my math
If we start with the original Per Aspera crew finding the Ad Astera, the timeline goes
Month 0: Original Crew finds Ad Astera
Month 20/ Year 1, Month 8: Docent is given to Maxim
Month 39/ Year 3, Month 3: Dani revives VR-LA
Month 51/ Year 4, Month 3: Kyana joins crew
Month 52/ Year 4, Month 4: End of season 1
Month 60/ Year 5: Season 2 start
Month 61/ Year 5, Month 1: Season 3 start
Month 63/ Year 5, Month 3: Season 4 start
Month 64/ Year 5 Month 4: Season 5 start
Notes/ Reasoning in order!
In 3.3 or 3.4, I don’t remember exactly, Docent states that it was 20 months between them being re-activated by VR-LA and being left with Maxim.
There is no solid amount of time between Docent going to Maxim and the raid on the Per Aspera as far as I know, so the next event must be VR-LA rescued.
Austin states in the season 1 QNA that it was 19 months between Docent being left with Maxim and VR-LA being revived. The statement in 1.7 that it was 19 months since Maxim saw VR-LA was a mistake.
It is stated, in a few places but also in the season 1 QNA that it was 12 months between VR-LA’s revival and Kyana being fished out of the astral sea.
This is where it starts to take more math to determine the timeline.
Season 1 takes 1 month. 2 weeks in the feywild, 1 week on route to Maxim’s, and the rest is days, so I round up to a month
Season 2 is about a month long. About 1 week between the salamander incident and 2.2, 1 week between 2.8’s end and Hira’s announcement in 2.9, and another week for 2.10’s skill challenge, everything else took place over days, a month is assumed.
Season 3 is about 2 months long, although I’m shakier on this than the rest. Finbar and Elyse are in the Feywild for a month in 3.2, and there were a couple of trips that took some amount of time, but I’m basing this timeline on a timeline I made during rewatch from months ago, where I said it took weeks other than the month long time skip, so I’ll need to rewatch season 3 for anything more in depth.
Season 4 is 1 month long. There is 1 week between the start of 4.1 and the start of 4.2. There is a bit more than a week between 4.3 and the end of 4.4. There is a 2 week time skip during 4.5. 4.6 to 4.10 is at maximum 36 hours, it’s probably less than 24 hours.

CSI was always copaganda and admittedly NY got cancelled midseason but jesus fucking christ. Weird semi-bottle episode of cops trapped inside their station because people are protesting the shooting of a Black man as the others desperately scrabble to prove he was armed as if that automatically makes it okay. No closure for any characters other than making previously sympathetic characters look like racist dicks.
Faking it - 3.10 Up in Flames
This series finale was so underwhelming that I didn't even realize it was the finale and not just another episode. Yes, the show was cancelled early but it didn't even read as a season finale...
Imposters - 2.10 See You Soon‚ Macaroon
Ok listen so no I wasn’t expecting much from this show like I knew what I was getting into. But oh my GOD the way you could FEEL how rushed this finale was. Early cancellation‚ I believe there was meant to be one more season. (Also personally did not enjoy it bc I did not find myself compelled by Ezra’s storylines this season but he is the main character so the last scene of the entire show was something I thought was SO stupid). Also broke up the found family. Unsurprising but I’m dying out here and they couldn’t have thrown me one line?
The actual structure of the majority of the episode was pretty tight‚ like if it were a normal episode it would be fine. But then they had to go and try to wrap everything up before it was meant to be wrapped up and nothing has ever been less satisfying
Jane the Virgin - 4.17 Chapter Eighty-One
context: back in season 3 the protagonist jane was married to michael. he died in a heartbreaking and brilliantly done episode, and then the series jumped forwards 3 years in time. michael, his relationship with jane and his death was always treated with respect, even as jane slowly began to fall for her old flame and friend rafael.
in the season 4 finale, it seemed like rafael was going to propose to jane, which was lovely. but then the very annoying drawn out villain told rafael ""something"" that made him withdraw and lash out at jane for reasons she and the audience didn't understand. they still had sex which was disturbing considering his anger and drunkenness, and then at the end of the episode it was revealed that the information he found out was that michael was alive. he'd been alive this whole time. the last moments of the episode are jane and michael seeing each other again. this made NO SENSE considering he died in a public place from an aortic dissection (a sudden blood pressure spike from a pre-existing injury) and they had a casket at his funeral - but apparently the villain has been keeping him alive all this time!! for some reason!!! this finale not only ruined the main romantic relationship between jane and rafael for pointless drama, it also spat upon the memory and fans of michael, and michael and jane's romantic relationship. not even to mention the ridiculous drama that another fan favourite petra was put through this episode. the entire thing was full of cheap shock value moments and cliffhangers to try and get audiences to watch for the final season.

True Blood - 7.10 Thank You
so much wrong (really) with this show (which i love) but that final fucking image just does me in! sookie, our protagonist, who's been battered back and forth between stubborn heroine and hapless waif for 7 seasons seems spends her final (on-screen) moments sitting at her table surrounded by loved ones - which would be heartwarming if tara (abused for 6 seasons and then fridged, thanks alan ball) wasn't missing, a woman wasn't sitting next to the groomer she married (they meet near the beginning of the show when she is 17 and he is almost 30, they start dating immediately), and sookie were sitting at the head of her own fucking table. it's nice that sookie gets what she wants - she's tough but pretty milquetoast (don't get mad at me! i love our twee fairy vixen!), and she really has wanted to just be cozy and settle down this whole time. it makes sense to close on her enjoying a semi-mortal evening with the people she has left. but to leave on her tropily pregnant (even if it's in character - if it were just the pregnancy it wouldn't irk me so) and centre her nameless, faceless husband in the final frames of 7 seasons that have been (for better and way worse) about nothing but sookie? despicable! it's the series finale i've hated the most, but in some ways it's almost perfect because it totally exemplifies the political identity crisis true blood has for 7 years. edge vs. wholesomeness, agency vs. damselhood, change vs. status quo. it's such a disappointing result of the struggle that not only sookie (a character so many fans hate for her simultaneous stubbornness, ditz, and naivete - and who i love btw!) but the writers struggled for (sorry) 7 seasons. it's like witnessing your dear, baby faced, precocious & clever kid relative exit an intense emo phase only to become corporate law student. it's the cold fear that can only be induced by a white teenager with a briefcase. it's the slump end to a potentially fruitful struggle. in this sense it feels inevitable...but does it HAVE to be?...at least bill died.

the show got cancelled before season 2 released EVEN THOUGH it was certainly meant to have a season 2 so i will never see my silly blorbos ever again, nor will we be able to see who ate those grapes. It has been 5 years and I am still not over it :'(

I want to talk about Athelstan's hallucinations in season 2
He's shown to suffer from them multiple times both before and after the crucifixion, and how it's never quite clear as to whether they're just a cinematic device to show his confliction and the stress he's under (and therefore only really there for the audience's sake), or if he's actually seeing these things in the world of the show way, or if these things *are* really happening in a sense (see - the Mary/angel (?) vision in 2.05; if you were Christian especially at the time it's set, that could be seen as an Actual Heavenly Visit, but it could like. also just be a hallucination because his brain is Bad)
I once heard a theory that Joan of Arc suffered from migraines (which can cause hallucinatory auras in some cases) and that her visions could actually have been a result of that - I'm not saying Athelstan necessarily has the same condition but like. As someone who gets migraines (though minus the freaky aura stuff) I know they show up when the brain is Overstimulated and Unhappy. I also know that hallucinations can occur when a brain is Overstimulated and Unhappy from a variety of causes. And Athelstan has like every cause atm.
(I'm mainly talking about yeah that one scene in the courtyard and then also the demon under the bed scene, and whatever was going on in the communion scene - those were the ones that seemed the most ambiguous to me, the others (blood on the hands, Random Encounter Jesus at the party in 2.10) I think are a result of PTSD and/or just there for the audience to know "oh shit he's still Conflicted about this stuff and religion haunts him")
Listen though in this episode Athelstan:
Was crucified literally like a week ago and is still obviously in a lot of pain
Likewise is probably not sleeping due both to physical pain and the trauma of his situation therefore sleep deprived as all hell
Also I can't imagine he's been eating well or very much
Is probably dehydrated and weak from blood loss
(This is pure speculation but I saw it in a fic once) possibly is taking/has been taking some kind of Medieval painkillers and god knows what's in those
(also pure speculation) could also potentially have/is recovering from a fever due to improper wound care/general extreme bodily stress
Just recently witnessed/participated in a stressful situation on top of all this
Is clearly fucking exhausted
This is a recipe for a Bad Bad Brain
Basically, your boy isn't experiencing some kind of religious epiphany or hanging out with actual demons in episode 5- your boy needs to go the fuck to bed

So, episode 1 jwds is on my mind again and I'm here to prove that this episode has all the ingredients to be a... quirky... rom-com... please bear with me and trust the vision (and don't take this too seriously, cause i'm not taking it seriously either)

The editing in this scene makes a big point to show that DS is suuuuuper not interested in the conversation, oooohh noo, he doesn't care about the new inspector. Why would he? He's just some guy. He's not even listening to the conversation about how the new inspector is super smart, really physically fit, comes from a top university, graduated top of his year, and is very handsome.... who is also the son of the man connected to his sister's disappearance? oh.

Now, i know you're thinking that this poor Ahjussi is simping over the young hot bratty new-in-town inspector. "What a silly guy, he's flirting with the grumpiest guy in town. What a waste of time, jw is never going to return his feelings"... But it's is totally a two-way street from the start.
Everyone, I present to you, Han "I like to check out my suspect" Joo Won:
he likes to bite his lip whilst he looks at one of his stalker pictures of him
he gets turned on when Dong Sik recites the criminal code word-for-word by memory
he's so impressed by Dong Sik's knowledge that he takes the time to check him out as he walks across the road (even checking his mirrors as he drives past just so he can prolong looking at him)
apparently, he doesn't have "a thing" for "nut cases"... he says whilst looking the man up and down... you know? like a liar.
and sureeeee, let's have fun and pretend to believe him for a sec. Okay, he doesn't have "a thing" for an older man who he thinks is a "nut case". Fine... But that doesn't explain why
he makes it a habit of looking at his lips...
and at his stomach?? his hands??? his....??
and his arse....
he also sends a few flirtatious smiles at Dong Sik in front of their colleagues (a hjw version of a flirtatious smile is quite small)
He also sneaks in a few little looks, all before finding an excuse to have one-on-one time with him and to talk about nothing and everything. (I wonder how long Dong Sik had been out of the room before Joo Won decides to follow him. He's sooo.... ugh! this guy. if i were the gang, I would assume they have the hots for one another. the teasing, stealing glances across the dinner table, sneaking off to have private conversations??? what can i say? it seems suss)
and smiling at him... like this... after the guy, he's just accused of being a serial killer laughs at him menacingly. he finds it cute!!! he's a little weirdo who's into the guy he thinks is a sadistic serial killer... (pals, jw needs therapy asap)
So, yeah, from Dong Sik's perspective, episode 1 of Beyond Evil was a typical rom-com until Joo Won had to be a little creep and bring murder into the equation. It certainly brought a damper to their relationship but it didn't stop them from... you know...

How did Nalini allow this in s2 finale

I mean the dress the idea of having to cover up dress modestly indian parents dont stop interfering just bc a season passed
okay well. the 2.10 dress is fire, so there's that.
but i absolutely agree that nalini's strictness was softened in season two in favor of steamy teen romance shenanigans. while i love the nirmala plotline, i do think it stands in as a neat little bow for some of the more structural and not-so-easily-resolved issues between nalini and devi.
like. the fact that devi gets away with throwing a rager at her house. i was so expecting the other shoe to drop, but then everything is just fine. which, i feel like it wouldn't have been in season one. i also think that devi sneaking out in the middle of the night in 2.04 and then getting off with a 'we're going to get you on a round of antibiotics' re: the whole nose ring misadventure seems really tame compared to the nalini of season one.
like, i do appreciate how much softer they are with each other in season two, but it doesn't feel particularly earned, you know what i mean?

what does the harness being revealed really do for the story arc?
like- really.
to start, the most obvious things. i guess it would be a really easy way to break up ricky and lily’s thing, whatever that may be. but that only requires ricky to know about it, and i’ll be honest, if they want lily to be evolving, the guilt could be eating her up as she’s spending time with him and maybe she just admits it to him.
he doesn’t necessarily have to tell everyone else like? what would the point of that even be? by the time season 3 picks up i highly doubt any of them are still concerned with the menkies, the menkies will be over and i don’t think the kids are going to still be stressing themselves over potentially misplacing a harness for a transformation that almost took out ricky in 2.10.
like if everyone knows, what does that do? everyone already dislikes lily, so that wouldn’t be new or interesting. unless they want to use the reveal as a way to kick up howie’s betrayal of kourtney further, and then make the others dislike him too, it just doesn’t seem necessary?
if everyone does find out about it, it would also be a super easy way to break up kourtney and howie (again), but like that’s just super repetitive storytelling. like i said, maybe if the plan is not to bring howie back in season 4, they can just make kourtney dump him over the summer and then because it’s because he betrayed her that way the others don’t like him either and we never hear of him again. but like i say- it just feels super repetitive in a way?
the only other thing i could see this actually impacting would be if they wanted everyone to find out about it so the wildcats can all be mad at ricky for liking lily / giving her a chance, potentially leading to him being iced out. and honestly it just feels very unnecessary because they’ll probably be framed as being completely in the right for it, and i don’t love that concept considering... many things.

if anyone can think of any like- tangible impacts of the harness coming out that would actually advance any storylines please let me know because i’m drawing a blank rn. and i think that’s super interesting the fandom has all been very- they need to find out about the harness. but to me, sitting here trying to look at it more big picture, i can’t think of too many reasons (if any) that they do need to. if they do it would probably solely be as a “gotcha moment” against lily / potentially the other north high kids bc imo it was zack’s idea, and that’s not really like- helpful? to any larger plots? they all already dislike her i don’t think furthering that is creating any real interest in anything going on there.

trying desperately to stop myself from jumping to the conclusion that wwdits is Bad Now just because theres now been 2 eps in a row that left me completely stone faced not even laughing once: its ok they cant all be winners. they cant all be winners. its ok. its ok they cant all be w
#no really but what happened cause the court drama episode two weeks ago was decent and suddenly after that its been like#not just unfunny but downright cringy and the characters are like. annoying unlikeable instead of charming unlikeable like they used to be.#literally overnight like. were these last 2 written by the same person? directed by the same person? whos never even seen a comedy before?#whos never touched the rest of the show w their talentless hands? i dont know ill have to do some research#toy talk#edit: well it cant really be the director cause shes done quite a few eps that were pretty good#but the writers for each of these last two eps have only done one prior each and those prior ones are REALLY middling#so im gonna blame them. take these people off the writing team theyre really bad at their jobs.#maybe they can learn how to edit or something. something where they don't have to write jokes bc thats clearly not in their skillset#LUCKILY the writer and director for next week were also the same duo for the jackie daytona ep and i love that one#and THEN the last 2 are by the same people who wrote 2.10 aka The Best Episode so we should be back on track after now

I don’t remember much from my first watch of Black Sails but I think it says something about my having just come off seven months of being obsessed with The Terror that I recall being SHOCKED by the lack of cannibalism.
#as if Black Sails had literally Any time to address the morality of cannibalism... 🤦🏼#but idk!! i was just very used to it as a plot/thematic element#you can tell they wanted to include it tho#like... the ridiculous amount of sacrificial symbolism throughout the show culminating in a story about not only cannibalism but sparagmos#like. they could have just had the story be that the people on the ship ate each other in a survival cannibalism sense#but No. they had to tear each other limb-for-limb while still alive bc that’s SEXIER#the Black Sails writers Get It#they just couldn’t get into it so they had to stick it into a fourthhand account of a story that might or might not be true#and then of course the unfounded allegations against Vane by that girl in Philadelphia#which is also fascinating bc it’s using the rumor of Improper Consumption to dehumanize him and this justify his being sacrificed#and by ‘fascinating’ I mean terrible - obviously#god idek if I can rewatch seasons 3 and 4.... I’m already losing my shit over s2 rn#there was a break in the Symbolism (that I was picking up on anyway - could have missed it)#and then in 2.10 it broke through the wall like the fucking kool-aid man like ‘HEY DID YOU MISS ME?????’#and obviously it was in the most Cursed way possible#I still think it’s funny that I didn’t previously Know that axes are Sacrificial Symbolism#and I had to reverse-engineer that understanding after being massively confused by what was going on in s4#and so now I’m just watching the whole show with that in mind going ‘oh.... oh NO....’#but yeah anyway back to my original point#I’m glad there isn’t Actual Cannibalism bc that wouldn’t make any sense#but the symbolism is sexy and I love it#Black Sails Good
