March 31, 2002 - Bartolo Colon pitches a complete game shutout on opening night, limiting the Anaheim Angels to five hits, with Cleveland defeating the Angels 6-0. Colon's Sunday Night Baseball gem helped the then-Indians get off to a 11-1 start in 2002, but the team eventually faded from contention, finishing 74-88. Cleveland traded Colon in late June to the Montreal Expos for Cliff Lee, Brandon Phillips and Grady Sizemore. The trade is remembered as one of the most lopsided in history with Cleveland receiving three future Major League stars. Montreal's acquisition of Colon wasn't enough to get them to the playoffs as hoped. Colon was again traded to the Chicago White Sox in the offseason and the Expos relocated to Washington after the 2004 season. As for the Angels, they recovered from the opening night shutout quite well, winning 99 games to 63 losses, qualifying for the American League Wild Card and eventually defeating the San Francisco Giants in the World Series.
