I was talking to @nightcrawlerzincorporated earlier about this but I can't get it out of my head. I find it really frustrating redditbros admit they want old Mac and Dennis back but they don't understand that Macden has to be gay now because Mac is no longer in the closet. When Mac was in the closet, RCG got to hide all of Macden's romantic subtext under the guise of plausible deniability, but now, when Macden interact, it is impossible to ignore the undercurrent that there is something more than friendship going on here.

I understand why RCG are nervous to make Macden canon because there is the fear that they can't come back from it, but absolutely nothing needs to change from Macden's old dynamic. If anything, not making Macden canon is actually changing the dynamic more than just letting them be together. They have always been joined at the hip and easily jealous. They fight and sabotage each other and then they remain together, doomed to perform the same little hijinks with each other day in and day out. With canon Macden, we can have more episodes like Macden Break Up and Suburbs again.

In a way, RCG are right too; they can't go back to the old dynamic without calling it what it is, so instead, Macden is stuck in this weird limbo. This is one of the biggest problems in seasons 13-15: RCG have no idea where to put Macden's affection for each other. Keeping Macden the same would be too obvious they are gay, but to make them antagonistic just feels wrong.

I think it's really difficult for redditbros to admit they actually enjoy watching a gay couple be toxic to each other. They hold the opinion that any queer couples on television are just pandering to the audience, so they will twist the Macden dynamic in any way that preserves their heteronormativity. I'm begging RCG not to listen to the redditbros. To preserve the longevity of their show, they need to embrace the dynamic they found worked for 12 seasons. Not to mention, as RCG themselves pointed out, "maybe it won't play in middle America, and maybe it's not even ready for the mainstream, but it'll win a ton of awards, and get a shit ton of attention from the liberal press." Sunny has always been a show that alienates a lot of viewers, and I think RCG need to be less afraid of alienating viewers who clearly don't get what they are trying to do. For the redditbros who will stick around, I think it'll allow them to realize maybe gay people in media don't always have to cater to the audience.

me: here is a nuanced character I have created. They are kind of a jerk but they do not do it intentionally. They're just kind of arrogant but also have precious himbo energy. We are watching them work through some complex feelings and figuring out for themselves what they did wrong but do not have the added benefit of being privy to their inner thoughts so we have to do it all through the limited perspective of the main character.

btw when i talk abt it being unfair that lark was forgiven for what he did and sparrow wasnt (by henry) i say that in perspective of how sparrow probably feels, yk?

like obviously there are a lot of contradictory factors in play when it comes to both of their situations (lark & the rogue card and also the fact hes around 12-13 when it happens, and sparrow being an adult,) but like- personally i think if you/i were sparrow, that watching your father continuously forgive someone for something detrimental that they did even though they don't want that forgiveness for fucking years and then watching the same man go and immediately after you fuck up on that same level he tells you he will never forgive you? like that fucks you up

i dont think sparrow resents henry or lark for any of this but i definitely think he thinks about it like A LOT, because i definitely would-

as someone who has a fked up relationship with my father and is really close with my brother (who also has a pretty f-ed up relationship with him) i still love them both dearly, but that doesn't mean that my father's contradictory attitude towards both of us doesn't bother the fuck out of me, and i still think of it as unfair
