Ultimate Vigan Escape: Budget DIY Itinerary for Ilocos Sur Tour

[ TAKEOFFPHILIPPINES.com ] A great time to end my month-long vacation on this New7Wonders in the World, Vigan, Ilocos Sur. Its rich history made it to the list of the Unesco Heritage Site as this city was established roughly 16th century now but still, the preservation of the architectural design are visible in the city even on their urban development program.

The main attraction of tourist here in Vigan is its preservation of almost 187 ancestral house in town, colonial structured churches, donation-driven museums, a free-roaming zoo and local Ilocano restaurants which is a must visit.

It was an exciting trip that I can’t forget as this was our first trip together with Gab going up north in Ilocos Region. It was really tiring but fun at the same time as we were simply backpackers. You can roam around the city within 2 - 3 days. We’ve got to experience The Ultimate Vigan Escape for a rough estimate of Php 5,000.

Where to Ride Going to Vigan?

As Vigan is located here in Luzon, we can either go for a land or air transportation. There are many Vigan Tour Package offerings on every travel agency that you could try. It may include a van going to Vigan for an easy and worry-free trip but As for us, we decided to ride a bus. We felt that the best way to enjoy the trip is to experience riding it on the public transportation.

We tried Partas Bus using their Online Booking System. There are several bus companies you can try on your Vigan trip but since convenience is our priority we ride on a Partas Bus. I recommend their good and fast service on accommodating our concern during our trip.

Touring Around Vigan: Mode of Transportation

Vigan is a capital in Ilocos Sur that you can encapsulate your activities with just a day or two since its just a small town. Tourist spots along the Vigan proper are walking distance from each other but always prepare yourselves with a big bottled water and umbrella since the scorching heat of the sun is very imminent. Places like Baluarte, River Cruise, Mindoro Beach, Bantay Church Bell Tower seems to need to go for a ride since its a bit far.

The main transportation used by people here is either the tricycle or a kalesa (horse-drawn carriages). If you’re looking for a more intimate time I would suggest riding a kalesa to enjoy the scenery but if you have limited time like us I would prefer riding a tricycle.

Where to Stay in Vigan?

While exploring the streets of Vigan, we’ve noticed that each corner has numerous choice of hotels, inns and transient houses. Name it! You won’t have any problems looking for one. All you have to do is to be keen in looking for more affordable and cheaper rooms from the internet.

Luckily we found the right tool to search for affordable hotels in Vigan by using Traveloka. Traveloka helps you book your hotels and flights in less than 5 minutes with just a click away. They even had promos that you can use while booking. You can check their website or download their app on Android and IOS to try it first hand on this travel booking app.

Since we want to visit all the well-known tourist spots around Vigan City with less cost but still has a decent accommodation we landed on Mel Sol’s Inn and Resort at Bantay, Ilocos Sur, a 5-6 minutes tricycle ride from Vigan Proper.

When in Vigan: Where to Go?

We arrived at Vigan earlier than expected, we didn’t foresee that our bus has a new that's why we have ample time to roam around and go to church to start our Sunday with a positive outlook.

Simbaan A Basit

Liberation Blvd, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur

It is located at the edge of a Cemetery in Vigan. According to history, the cemetery chapel was built over a century now and it is dedicated to Santo Cristo also known in Ilocos as “Apo Lakay” who is believed to save Vigan’s populace from a plague in 1756 and 1882.

The chapel’s marker bears that the cemetery was blessed by Rev. Vicente Barreiro on Nov. 9, 1852 but the chapel’s interior now looks modern with all the repairs done through the years. Its name "Simbaan a Bassit" literally means "Small Church", since it’s a small it can only accommodate up to 100 people.

Vigan Heritage Village - Calle Crisologo

After a mass at Simbaan A Basit, we decided to stroll around Vigan and search the well known Vigan Heritage Village wherein it was considered as a UNESCO Heritage Site as it helps out preserved the culture and history of Ilocos Region.

You can explore those old houses with a century older than me by riding a Kalesa (horse wagon) or by simply walking on the streets, as it also helps out burn some calories. It is much appreciated during the night as you can feel the romantic ambiance and stunningly beautiful light post in the area.

Mostly you can have your dinner on this streets as they have plenty restaurants to choose from and buy some cool stuffs on souvenir shops.

Vigan Cathedral / St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral

After not so far from Vugan Heritage Village you can visit again a nearby church. Vigan Cathedral, It is a Roman Catholic Cathedral in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. It serves as the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia.

According to history, The church itself was built in 1641 to replace the chapel and became a cathedral when the seat of the Diocese of Nueva Segovia was transferred here from Lal-lo, Cagayan in 1758, but not before being ravaged by a fire in 1739.

The Cathedral of Vigan, as it is sometimes called, is a stunning tribute to Baroque architecture modified by the Ilocanos to survive earthquakes. It also has a bit of Chinese influence thanks to the carvings of lion dogs beside the outermost doors.

Plaza Salcedo

Plaza Salcedo, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur

Right in front of Saint Paul Metropolitan Cathedral is the Plaza Salcedo, named after the Spanish conqueror, Juan de Salcedo who subdued the early native settlement in Vigan and established upon it Villa Fernandina for the monarchs of Spain in 1572. With this, Juan de Salcedo founded the third of many Hispanic settlements in the Philippines. Plaza Salcedo was the site of the execution of Gabriela Silang in September 1763.

According to history, the plaza was susceptible to fire during the Spanish regime. So the plan then was to create a man-made lagoon to minimize fire incidents. The original concept dating back several years ago is retained until March 2013 wherein a dramatic addition has been added to the once quiet and laid back park in between the Vigan Cathedral and the Ilocos Sur Capitol. The addition is a majestic dancing fountain.

EXPENSES How Much Do You Need To Spend? 8Simply set your budget. Expect that foods in Baguio will be a little more costly than normal. 250php/head per meal is enough. If you're planning a DIY trip, bring 3,000php/head and up for an all-in expense. But if I were you, I must have availed tour packages offered online (e.g. tours.biyaheroes.com) for only 999 and invite friends to come with me to save more and to have more convenient transfers.

TRAVEL TIME How Long It Takes? 9Since in every plan, there will always be DRAWINGS, you must set the most convenient date and time for both of you. As for me and Boone, we arrived at Baguio on Dec 20, 7 AM and departed on Dec 21, 4PM. I think it was a good time since 20 was a weekday when most working people are still on duty.

Estimate Travel Time: 5 - 6 hours ITINERARY. Plan each destination. Since we're caught in the rainy weather of Baguio, we decided to stay in our room and planned the places to go the next day. Don't forget to install your Waze app using Mimiyuh's voice and "Skkrrttt!" all the way! It's an absolute stress reliever for Brave Travelers like you.

PICTURES & ADVENTURES WHAT TO DO? 10Save more memories than pictures but don't forget to take at least one per destination. After months of no physical activity because I had a whiplash injury I got a chance to climb my last mountain for 2017, which is Mt. Ulap. Cordillera is more than just, breathtaking views of mountains, pine trees, and bed weather, it offers a long list of trail to hike like Mt. Ulap.

Mt. Ulap is very accessible, that’s why people choose to go in here every weekends and I suggest you go here on weekdays like what we just did so you’ll never have to wait half an hour just to get a “buwis buhay” pics in Gungal rock formation and other more rock formation scattered along the trail. Also, it’s friendly for beginners. What to expect in Mt. Ulap? Strong and cold air and sunny at the same time. Mt. Ulap is almost an hour away from Baguio which you can actually ride a jeep(@Center mall) and it will only cost you 30 php if you’re planning a DIY.

This was my first hike with someone special beside my friends. How was the feeling? Indeed my stomach is full of butterflies of kiling and happiness, enjoying something you really love with that someone(so proud of his first hike). Hoping to have more summits with him. As always my climb wouldn’t be complete without a buwis buhay pic, ahh traditions. It took us 4 hrs to get to summit not because were too weak but because photo shoot is life. HAHAHAHA. And descending the mountain took us 1 and a half hour.

Oh and before I forgot your knees will have a hard time descending the mountain because of how steep and slippery the ground is so be careful and always always find a branch to hold on.

Photo Ops. 1330-1430 - Going to Barangay Santa Fe. 1430-1530 - Tidy Up. Logout. 1530-1630 - Ride Van Going to Baguio. 1630-1900 - Enjoy Baguio. Dinner. Photo Ops. 1900-0000 - Travel Back Home.

I've been to Baler a couple of times and I have to admit: I haven't seen everything there is to explore yet. It's so massive and rich in natural resources, activities, interesting people, culture and history, you'll never run out of treasures to discover and experience. Nothing less to expect from a place nestled by the mountains of Sierra Madre and touched by the Pacific Ocean.

Most travelers visit Baler for 2 days and a night just to try surfing and of course tour around Baler and it’s neighboring towns. A few would stay another night to maximize their visit, but we always visit Baler for 4-days and 3-nights to chill, surf and catch up with the local friends we’ve made there.

Long itinerary, I know. We did the tours on our first stay in Baler, but the next few visits were mostly filled with surfing, road trips, drinking and eating. The friends we’ve made there were just so fun to hang around with that we always treat them to drinking; we always end up laughing and singing the nights away. So, needless to say, most of our budget went to food and drinks which we could simply cut had we restrained ourselves from abusing our livers.

HOW TO GET THERE

Primary route: Genesis Transport Service Cubao > Baler Terminal

Alternate route 1: Any bus from Cubao bound for Cabanatuan Central Terminal, Nueva Ecija (Five Star Bus, Cubao Terminal, ES Transport) > Cabanatuan Central Terminal > Baler Terminal

From Cabanatuan Central Terminal, you can board any of these buses: D-liner, Lizardo lines, PUVans, Maria Aurora bus lines, Ma. Aurora Express, Genesis transport

Alternate route 2: From Baguio City, board any of these buses: D-liner, Lizardo lines

Genesis Transport Service offers various bus transport options. They have the standard air-conditioned buses, commonly called as Genesis buses that travels for 7 hours with 3 stop overs for P450 fare. They also have luxury buses, commonly called as Joy buses that travel for 4 to 4 1/2 hours with no stop overs, but they have toilets inside. The price would depend on class:

Deluxe: P750/trip with free water, snacks, morning kit, blanket, pillow, and WiFi Semi-deluxe: P630/trip with free water, snacks and blanket

We basically went for the cheapest way to get to Baler and that is to take the standard Genesis bus from Cubao. We had to endure 7 hours of travel that could get at around 4 hours had we chosen to ride Joy bus. All was well, though. We spared some money that we can splurge on food and drinks. On our way back, we chose to board an Aurora Bus bound for Cabanatuan and from Cabanatuan, we boarded a bus to Cubao. That route proved to be cheaper than boarding a bus straight from Baler to Cubao.

The budget is easy to play around with. Basically, you have a fixed allocation for your main transportation and your accommodation. Your budget would depend on what type of room you’ll get, for how long you’ll choose to stay, how many tours you’re gonna get, how many surf lessons you’re gonna avail, and how many are you in a group. Lodging by group proved to be the most sulit way as you can get rooms at a price you can divide among each other. The same goes with food, drinks and tour packages. Most inns and hostels have shared kitchen so you can just buy your food in the market or straight from fishermen and cook your own food. We do this with our boodle fights and breakfasts.

Surfing Lesson is P350/hr and a digital copy of your photos can be availed at P200

Surfboard rental is P200/hr and P400 for half day

Tour via tricycle for half day is around P300 to P400 good for 3 pax. A day tour would be around P800 for 3 pax

Motorcycle bike rental is at 800/day

Tricycle fare is usually at P15/head

Entrance fee to Balete “ Millennium” Tree is P20

WHERE TO STAY

A friend referred us to someone who dealt with our accommodation. We first stayed at Rushie’s Point- a beach front lodging with a bar/pub, and a few huts. We went on an off-season so we only had to shell out around 1, 600/head for 3pax for 4D 3N. Contact them directly for rates and reservation policy.

We then made a friend with someone who has a kubo and a few surf boards for rent so on our future visits, Kuya Danny Boy’s kubo became our go-to place.

Sabang Beach

This long stretch of shoreline facing the Pacific ocean is probably the most visited place in Baler. Friendly to newbies in surfing, most travelers conquer their fear of riding waves at Sabang. We usually surf in front of Tower (Near Nalu) and in front of Frus Oyat.

Century Old “Millennium” Balete Tree

Found in the town of Maria Aurora, you can marvel at the largest Balete tree in Asia that is said to have existed for more than 600 years now. It’s so enormous that you can go inside its tangled maze.

LT. James Gilmore Marker

At the corner of San Luis St. and Rizal St. stands the Lt. James Gilmore marker. He was the commander of the USS Gunboat ‘Yorktown’. He and his men were captured by insurgent forces save two (2) who were instantly killed and two (2) mortally wounded. Lt. James Gilmore and the survivors were taken to Nueva Ecija and then to Northern Luzon where they were later rescued by American forces and taken to Manila.

San Luis Obispo Parish (Baler Catholic Church)

The Baler Catholic Church is the site where the Siege of Baler happened. Filipino revolutionaries laid siege to the fortified church manned by colonial Spanish troops in the Philippines for 11 months, or 337 days.

Museo De Baler

The town proper is filled with reminders of the past and Museo De Baler is definitely a place to visit. Several artifacts are to be found in the museum- from riffles used by the Spaniards, journals , military uniforms of both the colonizers and the FIlipinos, letters, books, drawings. The museum also features the cold cast facade made by sculptor Toym Imao, the son of National Artist for the Visual Arts Abdulmari Imao.

Doña Aurora Ancestral House

The fee for checking out Museo De Baler includes a pass to Doña Maria’s ancestral house. The province of Aurora is named after the beloved first lady, Aurora Antonia Aragón Quezon who was born in Baler. Photos of the President Manuel L. Quezon, Doña Aurora and their family is preserved in the ancestral house as well as some old furniture.

Quezon Memorial Park

Manuel L. Quezon has a replicated nipa hut in Quezon Memorial Park. It also features the presidential car he used during his term and a 230-kilo bronze statue of him by Julie Lluch at the center of the park.

Ermita Hill

When the tsunami called Tromba Marina devoured Baler, the survivors went up to Ermita Hill situated in Mt. Dibudalan at Sitio Dicaloyungan, Barangay Zabali, Baler, Aurora. This place has a view of Baler Bay, Dima-Dimalangat and Aniao Islets.

Caunayan Falls

This gem is located in Pimentel, San Luis, Aurora and requires to be trekked, but compared to Ditumabo, the time you’ll spend trekking towards the falls is relatively smaller. If your guide knows the place well, he’ll be able to drop you off somewhere closer.

Diguisit Falls

A few minutes away, you’ll be able to sample Diguisit Falls at Sitio Diguisit, Barangay Zabali, Baler, Aurora. It’s right beside the road and has to be climbed first. It can get really slippy and muddy at times so people are advised to be very careful when climbing Diguisit Falls.

Diguisit Beach and Rock Formations

We had a picnic here when we celebrated Dan’s victory at the 11th Aurora Surfing Challenge. He won the long board division and celebrated by Diguisit Beach. I’m not sure if we got a discount, but we only got a cottage for P100.00

Baler Fish port

Baler Fish port can be found in Barangay Zabali, Baler, Aurora- the perfect place to chill at.

Baler Hanging Bridge

This bridge was originally made to accommodate the students of ASCOT. For a minimum donation of P5, you can see the view of Tibag-Sabang River and bring with you the bragging right of literally crossing a river.

Dicasalarin Cove

We’ve never been here yet, but we were told that there’s a fee of P300 per person to experience this privately owned cove by the Angaras. The road towards Dicasalarin is also a fun-filled one since you’ll be able to see the sea while you’re on your way to the cove.

WHERE TO EAT

We ‘re really used to doing boodle fights and cooking our own food whenever we can, but there are times when we’re just too tired to go to the market and cook, so we always visit the same places to eat. Basically, our go-to breakfast is either El Teodoro for their Tapa flakes and Nalu Surf Camp for their breakfast meals. If you like a huge variety of options, try Rolling Store, a series of karinderias or turo-turo located in the town proper. We’ve also had dinners at Yellow Fin- a little pricey, but every order can be shared within a group of 4.

NOTES

Be responsible with your trash. There aren’t many trash bins by the beach so it’s best to bring your trash with you and throw them in a bin once you get to your hotel/lodging.

Baler people are the most hospitable and most humble people I’ve ever met. Make friends with the locals and hear their stories.

LAOAG CITY – The province of Ilocos Norte is getting ready to reopen its doors to tourists from nearby provinces but in a highly regulated manner.

Aianree Raquel, provincial tourism officer of Ilocos Norte, said in a phone interview on Wednesday that Baguio City, La Union, Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte through their local chief executives have committed to reopen the tourism corridor in Northern Luzon starting September 21.

"Following a series of consultation meetings with the five local government units, our governors committed to open our tourism sites but we must all adhere to the prescribed guidelines which are now being finalized,” she said.

By next week, Ilocos Norte will be hosting a technical working group represented by tourism officers from Region 1 to work out all details to help stir Ilocos Norte’s economic stagnation caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

Based on the proposed guidelines, tourists from nearby provinces are required to book, pre-register and set their travel itinerary using Stay IN (Ilocos Norte) Tourist Registration System, a web-based tourist registration and contact tracing system which was already pilot-tested in the province last July 29 when the Provincial Tourism Office hosted a pop-up bazaar at the provincial capitol.

A visitors' assistance center will also be set up at the Badoc and Pagudpud gateways, including the Laoag International Airport, but the arrival and processing of tourists will be limited from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. only.

All tourists are required to secure a travel authority, medical certificate, accomplish a health declaration form not earlier than 48 hours before departure for Ilocos Norte using the Stay IN app, and show a negative rapid antigen test within 48 hours before arrival at the border checkpoint. Said original documents and IDs must be presented at the border for verification.

To date, there are 125 accommodation establishments in the province which have already secured a special permit to operate from the provincial government of Ilocos Norte as well as a certificate of authority to operate from the Department of Tourism.

Of the 125 accommodation establishments, there are 103 which are assigned for leisure, 22 for Authorized Persons Outside Residence and 10 for quarantine purposes.

In partnership with travel agents, Raquel added that they have prepared sample tour packages which may last for at least five days up to 30 days for visitors to choose from.

When asked if there will be an expected increase in tourism fees and charges, Raquel said “Covid rates” may apply which means there will be a slight increase to cover health and sanitation maintenance, among others. (PNA)

The sweet, cold embrace of Mt. Pulag

On Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, I was able to tick Mt. Pulag off my bucket list and conquered the majestic mountain together with my friends Weng and Mayette and nine others who were a mix of beginners and experienced mountaineers.

Basic facts

Mt. Pulag is popular among hikers and trekkers not only because of its fabled views and breathtaking sea of clouds but also of its elevation, being the highest peak in Luzon and the third highest peak in the Philippines next to Mt. Apo and Mt. Dulang-Dulang, both in Mindanao.

The mountain stands high up at 2926 meters above sea level and near the heavens that the tribes who live in and around it believe they can commune with the gods, and for them, climbing is a sacred activity. Dubbed “playground of the gods” with its summit reaching the sky and jutting through the clouds, it’s the closest thing to heaven.

There are several trails that lead to Mt. Pulag: the easy Ambangeg in Bokod, the challenging Akiki in Kabayan, the arduous Ambaguio in Nueva Vizcaya, and the alternative trails Eddet and the Tawangan, both in Kabayan, Benguet. We chose to trek the Ambangeg trail, the shortest and the relatively easy trails compared with the others.

Going to Benguet

We hired a tour organizer for this Mt. Pulag adventure. Mayette, Weng, and I were joined by nine other trekkers in this tour. Our tour organizer made the arrangements for a van from Greenfields City that took us to our homestay in Benguet where stayed overnight to rest before the climb the next day.

We left Greenfields City around 11:30 pm on Friday, Dec. 6, and arrived in Benguet around 6 a.m., Dec. 7, where we had breakfast in the local eateries there, and then waited for the time the DENR office to open for the registration and mandatory pre-climb orientation. The orientation was done in batches of at least 80-90 people at a time. We were the fourth batch, so we took the spare time taking pictures, goofing around, checking out souvenir items, and eating strawberry taho! The orientation was short yet very comprehensive and informative.

Once the orientation was done, we were taken to the Ranger Station, the jump-off point, to register yet again and then have our lunch in one of the eateries there before we were taken to our cozy though chilly homestay facing a vegetable farm at Baban’s. We checked in around 2:00 p.m. at Baban’s, took a few hours’ rest in our respective rooms, and then explored the vegetable farm through thick fog and biting cold.

I had been to Benguet once going to Sagada a few summers ago. It was cold back then, but I didn’t expect it to be so cold, maybe 5 degrees, at this time of the year! I had to wear layers of clothing, thick socks, a bonnet, and mittens just to keep myself warm or else I’ll turn into a human prune. It was so cold the tap water was even ice-cold! You may need a heater if you can’t tolerate bathing in ice-cold water.

We had socials with the other guests/trekkers the afternoon we arrived at Baban’s and then had pork sinigang sa sampalok, noodles with vegetables, and red rice for dinner at around 7:00 p.m. Lights off was 8:00 p.m.

Wake up time was set at 12:00 midnight. We had a hot noodle soup at around 1:45 a.m. before we headed to the Ranger Station to meet up with our guide at 2:00 a.m. The hike/trek to Mt. Pulag is also scheduled as follows: 12:00, 12:30, 1:00, 1:30, 2:00, and 2:30. Our jump-off time from the Ranger Station was 2:30 a.m. There were also assigned viewing points for each group to avoid overcrowding at the peaks to watch the sea of clouds and to ensure that everyone gets to see it.

Way up to the sea of clouds and summit of Mt. Pulag via the Ambangeg trail

I’ll be describing the trail here as I saw it at daylight on our way back to the Ranger Station.

From the Ranger Station to the summit is around 8 km, so the whole trail is total is about 16 km. Depending on the pace, the summit can be reached in about 3 to 5 hours.

With only our headlamps to light our way, we started our trek in the biting cold and darkness as the half-moon hid its face behind the clouds, the sky blanketed with stars. We first went through wide trails surrounded by pine trees and picturesque landscape, a place they call “pine forest.”

After a few minutes’ to an hour’s hike, we entered the “mossy forest,” enchanting us with its grand spectrum of flora—pink flowers known locally as ayusep, red-leaf shrubs, ferns, and mossy trees. There are cold springs along the way where you could refill your water bottle should you need to. The water is ice-cold though.

About an hour or so of hiking, we arrived at Camp 1, marked by a hut, where we rested for a while and relieved ourselves in the latrines before hiking back up. Yes, there’s a latrine, but there’s only one for the male and one for the female so expect a long queue when you have to go.

After about 20 minutes at Camp 1, we started our trek to Camp 2. It took us about 2 hours to reach the camp where we again rested for a while. Once rehydrated and rested, we began our trek to our assigned peak to wait for the sunrise and for the sea of clouds to appear.

We hiked through the “dwarf bamboo forest” and grassland going to our assigned peak. It was amazing to see bamboos just knee to thigh high along a stony path. We arrived at our viewing point as the sun was just rising at the horizon. It was a marvelous and stunning view of the sun above a sea of clouds! I couldn’t help but gasp in awe at God’s creation as I watched the sunrise breaking the horizon and the sea of clouds around me. It was spectacular to see distant peaks surging like islets in an ocean of cotton clouds. From our viewing point, we could see the golden brown peak of the majestic mountain. The locals called it Mt. Pulag for “pul-ag” which means bald.

The summit views of Mt. Pulag are fabled and legendary. On a blessed time, sea of clouds form beneath, covering everything but the highest points in the Cordilleras. Truly, we were blessed because we did not only reach the summit but also witnessed the elusive sea of clouds!

Though the Ambangeg trail was the easiest relative to the other trails, I was catching my breath as the air gets thinner and the temperature plummeted to near-freezing level as we went higher. It was warmer near the summit as the sun started to shine, so I took off one shirt to make me feel comfortable.

The entirety of the trek to the summit was grassland, although there’s only one moderately steep part. Then, at around 7:00 a.m., more than 4 hours of walking from the Ranger Station (with rest and picture-taking), we reached the summit of Mt. Pulag. Finally, we were standing on top of the highest peak in Luzon at 2926 meters above sea level!

We trekked down around 8:00 a.m. after countless photos taken at the summit and reached the Ranger Station just around lunchtime.

I grope for words to describe how I felt when I felt the sweet, cold embrace of Mt. Pulag. How beautiful is the sea of clouds exactly? How majestic is Mt. Pulag? It’s hard to put them into words. One has to go to Mt. Pulag in order to find out.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

Scheduling. Mt. Pulag is accessible throughout the year, but it is advisable to climb it during the early months of the year, December to early May, during the non-rainy months. The rainy season, especially during bad weather, may not allow transportation to reach the Ranger Station. It could also get very cold and camping may not be suitable. It is also best to hire a tour organizer for convenience (transportation and other arrangements). For DIYs, it is advisable to contact the DENR office for scheduling and assignment of trek guide because no one is allowed to climb Mt. Pulag unscheduled and without a guide.

Facilities. There are latrines in the camps and shower in the Ranger Station. Water sources can be found in the mossy forest should you need a water refill during the trek. Cellphone signal exists in many parts of the trail, including the Ranger Station, the campsite, and the summit. Tents (limited availability) and trekking poles may be rented or bought from the park. Gloves, bonnet, hiking pants and shirts, or jacket may be bought at some stalls in the park.

Cebu Trip Day 1

My boyfriend and I really loved planning trips last minute. For instance, our Baguio getaway last year was all set just two days before our departure. Things went well, anyway... I bet it was because of his master planning skills. I mean he could be an events coordinator/organizer if he wanted to. Hehehe!

We left Cavite at around 5 in the morning and arrived at the airport at 6:30. We were early since our flight was not until about two hours later because we wanted to have ample time to compose and settle ourselves just in case an untoward incident happen. While we were waiting, we were talking about the horror stories regarding flight delays and stuff that we had read online when an announcer interrupted our already giddy moods and told us to wait for boarding until further notice. Whew! Speaking of the devil?! Lol! Good thing, the delay only lasted for fifteen minutes.

Yayyy! We’ve finally boarded! Of course we wouldn’t let this chance slip by to take selfies especially since the lighting situation here was superb.

There was not much to do on the plane so we just enjoyed the view outside.

We met our tour guide, Kuya, after lunch and started on our itinerary immediately. We booked his services for the whole three day trip. We chose his half-day Mountain View travel package for our first day since it was what our schedule would permit us. We didn’t take the usual city tour so we weren’t able to visit the Taoist Temple (which I was so excited to see prior). But it’s okay, we can just go back next time. We rode a motorcycle, which they called habal-habal, to get to our destinations.

Our first stop was Florentino’s Eco Park, their so called Little Tagaytay. The ambiance was chill, perfect for when you want to relax your eyes and be one with nature. There seemed like an endless landscape of different flowers and plants that added charm to the place. Luckily, there were only a few people around so we took the opportunity to take as many photos as we can. I can speak forever telling tales about each photo but I wouldn’t be able to finish this post. Hehehe!

Kuya wasn’t just our tour guide as he was also our photographer, historian, and clown all-in-one! In this photo, he instructed us to look at each other candidly. But I just couldn’t, I found it funny so the pose came out really awkwardly! Hehehe.

I don’t think there’s an idle spot in this place as every where I look was IG-worthy. Actually some areas were still under construction so imagine if they already completed it.

Our next destination was Adventure Cafe. We didn’t spend much time there because we didn’t avail of their offered activities such as ziplining and wall climbing. They also have this wall where you can throw dishes to relieve stress. We just looked around the place and took some photos.

We also went upstairs to enjoy the view even more.

Next on our list was Buwakan ni Alejandra. Buwakan means flower garden. As soon we stepped on the vicinity, we were greeted by an attendant who provided a brief history of the place.

Look at those lovely flowers all in bloom!

I especially liked this trail with flowers on its sides. I kinda felt like a bride walking her way to the groom. I’m not a very romantic bordering on cheesy kind of person but this place gave me that certain vibe. Hehehe!

This photo doesn’t need any touch-ups as the background alone and the layering are perfect on their own.

Our next stop was JVR Island In The Sky. The main attraction in this place, I believe, is their colorful hanging bridge. I wasn’t scared but it was so bouncy that I really had to hold onto the railings as I had the worst sense of balance.

Funny side story: When we arrived, there were these two ladies monopolizing the bridge taking turns posing and perfecting their selfies. The bridge was the only way to get to the other side of the place (from what I remember). So, of course, as a sign of courtesy, we waited for them to get that one perfect shot. Minutes had passed but there wasn’t any sign of them finishing just yet. Kuya grew a bit impatient so he jumped onto the bridge and forcefully swayed it just so the two would evacuate. When we passed by them, I could feel their stares burrowing into us. Hehehe!

Here we are riding a cable car! We looked so comfortable in this photo without any indication that our conversations revolved around how tired our feet were from all the walking and how safe this vehicle was cos the gondola wasn’t enclosed. Of course, we were just joking about the latter. We really enjoyed this 20-minute ride.

Our next agenda was West 35 Eco Mountain Resort. They have this huge playground, a cafe, and rooms where you can stay overnight.

This was how far I got. Hehehe! There were three-rope courses but I only tried one because as I’ve said earlier, I was the worst at balancing. I didn’t want to fool myself.

So, I just played on these slides instead. I mean, no one’s too old for these, right?

As you can see, it was starting to get dark. So we hopped on our ride and went to our next destination--The Sirao Flower Garden.

We arrived a bit late as you can tell from the photo so we didn’t fully witness the beauty this place could've offered. Actually, I was more captivated by the little structures in the area than the flowers. There was a mini windmill, a proposal area, a gazebo, and mini houses that were closed by the time we were there.

I wish we arrived earlier so we could enjoy the place even better.

Our last order of business was the Temple Of Leah. We were supposed to go to Tops but decided not to pursue it since the view from the Temple Of Leah was just the same (?).

I super loved this place. I was mesmerized, to say the least. I couldn’t get my eyes off of those huge chandeliers lighting the temple. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to see the whole site because some parts were under construction. Kuya told us that the owner have already spent billions in building and remodeling the place. He pointed us to a wall that was once completed months before but because the owner wasn’t satisfied on where exactly the design was installed, he ordered it to be demolished. That was how intricate he was with details, which I like.

You should definitely drop by if you’re near the area. You won’t regret it one bit!

And that ended our first day trip!

Actually, the night wasn’t done for us yet as I needed to meet my mom at the mall so she could hand me some pasalubongs. She was assigned to work in Cebu (long story!) so it was the perfect time for us to meet. We met at Ayala Cebu and ate dinner at Pancake House. At around 9, we decided to leave. She went home to her rented apartment while we went to our booked Airbnb room somewhere near the city center.

It was truly a fun-filled day! Can we just do this every day?!

Philippine Military Academy Is the Philippine military school of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. It was established on December 21, 1936 by the virtue of Commonwealth Act № 1 or the National Defense Act. The Academy is located in the city of Baguio, Benguet. Suggested on the last day before going back to Manila an entrance Fee on Php 20.00 Per Person upon entry. Please wear proper attire they don’t allow Short, Slippers and alike.

Tam-Awan Village Is one of the City’s famous attractions, having been created in 1998 by the Chanum foundation. Where to Go in The Philippines: The Perfect Itinerary

It’s tough to think of a more beautiful corner of the world than the Philippines, with white sand beaches, bath-temperature water, and incredibly friendly locals.

These islands, 7,107 of them to be exact, are worth a departure from the typical banana pancake trail in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam! The beaches are regarded as some of the best in the world, as are the diving opportunities, and the welcoming nature of the Filipino people is unwavering.

But with so many islets to choose from offering up various culture, adventure and culinary delights, where do you even start to plan an itinerary and figure out where to go in the Philippines? Well luckily enough, Charlotte and I have spent roughly two months in the Philippines and have wrapped up our experiences into one neat little package below. Let’s get to planning your perfect Philippines itinerary:

Manila

It’s likely that you’ll begin your journey in the capital, Manila. A city bustling with people, Spanish colonial architecture, street vendors and Jeepneys. Many travellers use Manila simply as a gateway to other destinations in the Philippines but we would recommend spending at least a day there in preparation for the rest of your adventure. It will also give you enough time to purchase your bus ticket to the North of Luzon, acclimatize, and sample street food like quack quack (battered quail egg) and caramelized bananas.

Quick Tip: Take a Jeepney ride for as little as 10PHP to a random destination in town. Just get off where you feel spontaneous!

North Luzon (Banaue / Batad Rice Terraces)

North Luzon is very much overlooked in the Philippines with travelers opting for pristine white beaches and crystal cobalt seas instead. However, we would highly recommend a trip into the mountainous region for a glimpse into the World of the local rice farmers and stunning craggy landscapes. The UNESCO Banaue rice terraces are a key highlight of any trip to the North.

Top Tip: Most travelers visit Banaue due to the UNESCO title stamped across its name, however just an hour up the road (or up the mountain) lie Batad rice terraces which are just as beautiful and have far fewer tourists.

An overnight stay will allow you to live like the locals in a traditional stilt house built into the terrace. A trek to a neighboring waterfall is also on the agenda here and highly recommended! Wear a bathing suit and take a dip!

How To Get There: Overnight buses such as Ohayami run from the Sampoloc area of Manila for $19, which can be purchased a day in advance or on the day of (subject to availability). They leave at 9pm.

Stay: Batad Transient House (traditional stilt house) for just $11 with a delicious breakfast!

Sagada

Home to the infamous hanging coffins, the Igoret tribes of the North have long practiced burying their dead in coffins nailed against the side of cliffs, believing they will be closer to heaven.

This tradition is slowly dying out, so this is a rare chance for a deeper glimpse into traditional tribal life. You can hop off at Sagada on a return bus trip to Baguio from Banaue.

Quick Tip: Sagada has VERY limited ATMs and the one we did find had zero money, resulting in frantic phone calls home to wire money to Western Union Transfer! Take enough cash for your trip to Sagada.

Baguio City (Mount Pulag)

No trip to North Luzon is complete without visiting its highest peak at 2,926m above sea level. If that sounds like too much trekking for some then do not fear! Most of the journey is done by Jeepney to a mountain village where you stay overnight in a local house before taking on the summit in the early hours. In total the trek takes approximately 4-6 hours after reaching the village with a couple of rest breaks before reaching “the sky of clouds”.

Quick Tip: Most tour operators will drop you back at Manila providing you advise that you want to be dropped off here INSTEAD of returning to Baguio. If you follow this itinerary chronologically, this is ideal as we’ll be flying down south next.

Boracay

A small island in central Philippines, Boracay is the top tourist draw of the Philippines, and for good reason! White beach takes center stage framing a 4km slice of paradise, once voted the best beach in the World (check out our guide to the best beaches in the Philippines)! An array of restaurants, resort accommodation and bars feature heavily along the main beach stations, while the back beach offers perfect conditions for water sports. Bar crawls, cliff jumping and ATV tours are all on offer here!

Quick Tip: We recommend spending 3 or 4 nights in Boracay. Once you have partied your way through the island it will probably be time to move on anyway!

How To Get There: Fly or ferry. We took the overnight ferry to save on accommodation and boarded from Batangas (reachable by 2 hour air conditioned bus from Manila). Ferries should be booked a few days in advance with 2GO Travel and they depart from 9pm and sail overnight to the port of Caticlan for $19 arriving at 7am dependent on sea conditions. From here passengers take a 10 minute boat across to the island.

Stay: Hostel Avenue is the only beach front hostel in Boracay opened 2017 for $17, located on White Beach.

Coron

Located in the province of Palawan, Coron is where you will find those Insta perfect dragon-esque landscape rock formations that penetrate the skies and inhabit turquoise lagoons below them. THIS is one of the reasons we first put the Philippines on our bucket list and trips to Barracuda Lake (fresh water lake), Kayagan Lake and the small and big lagoons are an absolute must on your visit here and can be booked one day in advance in the main town. Coron is also dubbed as the shipwreck capital of the World due to a large number of sunken Japanese vessels all within a 20-minute boat ride of the main town.

Quick Tip: The town is quaint and buzzing with other travelers. In our experience, we preferred to avoid the crowds and booked a private charter with another couple to take us to the best snorkeling spots when the hundreds of orange lifejackets had already left. This also means you can hand pick your sightseeing spots and all for as little as a $25 increase on the popular tours!

How To Get There: For approximately $90 we opted to fly from Caticlan (Boracay) to Coron and boy was it worth it! Boarding a small 12 seater Air Juan plane from Boracay you can swoop across the archipelago of the Philippines marveling at the tiny, Maldives like islets beneath you. A highly recommended way to see the Philippine landscape in all its glory!

Stay: If you’re confident in speaking with the locals by now, a cheaper alternative to a hostel on the main strip is to walk the quieter streets of the town and find a friendly local who will offer up his spare room for free or for half the cost of a hostel. Still to this day staying in ‘Sheila’s’ room while she was away at University was one of our favourite stays of all our travels!

El Nido

Sticking with Palawan, El Nido is the next obvious destination to go to in the Philippines to get your jaw dropping landscape fix! The town is a traveler’s paradise, housing an array of budget accommodation, charming restaurants and bars and also ample diving opportunities. Take an island hopping tour, inclusive of small and big lagoons, 7 Commandos Beach, Snake Island and Cudugnon Cave. Tours start from around $26 inclusive of three or four destinations, oh and lunch is included too. Sold!

Quick Tip: If your budget allows, we would highly recommend putting some money toward an island hopping expedition from Coron to El Nido. Sailing in and around some of the smallest and most remote islets of the Philippines was truly breathtaking. Sandbar slices of paradise, camping on secluded beaches and snorkeling in some of the clearest waters in the World were some of our favourite moments from the whole of our Philippines trip, not to mention singing Karaoke in a locals home with only the local villagers and rum to keep us company! For us, this was THE way to see the real Philippines at its most authentic.

Go With: Buhay Isla run 3 and 4 night expeditions between Coron and El Nido ports.

Cebu

Our visit to Cebu was mainly focused around one sight in particular, Kawasan Falls. This picturesque waterfall that plummets into the turquoise lagoon below has quickly become an instagram favorite and when you see it, you’ll understand why! We would highly recommend getting there early to avoid the crowds.

The falls can be easily accessed from the main entrance. Take a tricycle from your guesthouse and they will already know where you want to go!

Quick Tip: For the more adventurous traveler and for an alternative way in to the falls, opt for a canyoneering experience where you will be thrilled with 2-10m cliff jumps into the azure waters below. Taking a dip in such mesmerizing waters is highly recommended in any case, but to do it all with a rush as you jump and jolt from the limestone cliffs above is all the more exhilarating! Your experience ends at Kawasan Falls; the perfect end to such an adventure.

How To Get There: Vans regularly leave from the town of El Nido to Puerto Princesa every hour directly to the airport. You can choose to either explore Puerto Princesa or fly directly to Cebu.

Go With: We opted to canyoneer with Highland Adventures and found them to be reliable with all safety measures and equipment in place.

Oslob

It has always been a dream of ours to swim with whale sharks in a natural environment. We are so jealous of Kristin’s authentic experience with whale sharks in Mozambique and as avid divers we await the day until we get to see such a rare moment!

Although we were not 100% happy to swim with whale sharks while they are being fed, we did in fact get to swim with them in Oslob as part of a tour we were doing. They are some of the most beautiful creatures we have ever laid eyes upon as they graciously swoon in the waters collecting fish that are being served for them. We caved into the experience here as we justified the experienced based on the sharks being allowed to come and go as they please, but we await an authentic experience with much more excitement!

Be My Travel Muse generally does not support animal encounters like this that alter the animal’s natural behavior, but it felt remiss to leave this off of the itinerary since many people do want to have this experience. It is here to provide information rather than encourage you to participate, however. More ethical alternatives where the sharks are not being fed include the Bay of Los Angeles in California, the Maldives, Mozambique, and many others depending on the season.

Bantayan Island

An off the beaten path island that is often overlooked by many taking the main tourist trail but conveniently located north east of Cebu. Still a hidden gem, locals will welcome you into their guesthouses with open arms for you to explore powdery, undeveloped white sand beaches, local cafes, fish markets and of course skydiving! Yes, you read that correctly, Bantayan island is home to the only place to skydive in the Philippines and of course we had to try it!

Quick Tip: Although we were there largely to skydive, Bantayan ended up one of our favorite destinations in the Philippines due to the untouched landscape, local food, secluded sands, and of course the friendly Filipino people. Take a bike ride between Santa Fe and the neighboring village and stop off at the local cafes (which are essentially villages houses) and take in the local life sipping on cheap, cold beer. You can thank us later!

How To Get There: Take a taxi to Cebu North bus terminal. Board a bus to Hagnaya (3 and a half hour from Cebu City for $3.62). At the Hagnaya terminal boats to Bantayan island leave every hour up until 4pm and cost $3.85.

Visa Requirements

Always check your visa requirements before entering the country but for most, you can enter the Philippines without a visa for up to 30 days, providing you have evidence of onward travel.

Extending your visa is a simple enough procedure however. You can apply to do so at the Bureau of immigration to allow 59 days. We would recommend not doing this in Manila and opt to extend on one of the smaller islands such as Boracay as the procedure is much more simple and a lot quicker.

Getting around: Luckily, travel in and around the Philippines is relatively inexpensive, though may require some forward planning.

Buses: Many destinations within provinces can be reached by bus, especially in the North and at short notice too should there be availability. All are air conditioned, cheap and some even provide a snack! We recommend an overnight bus as the perfect way to save on accommodation while getting from A to B. What’s not to love!

Jeepneys: Do take a Jeepney when possible! Not only is a good way to sample local transport in a pimped out American armored vehicle but it is also cheap too.

Boats / Ferries: Given the Philippines has some 7,000+ islands, this should be no surprise. Many online agents provide bookings in advance (1 or two days is sufficient) and overnight ferries in particular are comfortable and air conditioned depending on class. You can also buy tickets directly at the port to save on fees, but during holidays expect to have to wait a few days to be able to book!

Flights: Flying between provinces isn’t actually as expensive as it first sounds, should you fly at the right times and between the right destinations. It also allows you to see the archipelago from above too! We think that’s worth the money all by itself.

Taxis: Many city provinces such as Manila and Cebu have taxis, however the cheaper alternative is a tricycle (motorbike with side cart). Tricycles are a great way to zip around and are also considerably cheaper than taxis. With several long weekend holidays coming, we have more options to celebrate it with friends and loved ones. This week is our Undas while two weeks from now, November 13 to 15 are special non-working holidays for people in Metro Manila, Bulacan, and Pampanga due to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Meetings.

Where are the best places to visit during the holidays?

With the abundance of beautiful places in the Philippines, we surely have a lot of places to go to celebrate the long weekends. Where can we unwind and chill?

1. Baguio City

Wait What? Baguio is near Metro Manila? Well Its far geographically but with the new expressways available in the North, Baguio City is now just 4.5 hours away from Metro Manila.

In just 4 hours of drive, we can experience the cool and exciting spots up north. Enjoy the cool breeze, dine and savor their local fresh foods, and be a kid while exploring Burnham Park, Mines View Park, and the Strawberry Farm in La Trinidad, Benguet.

2. Taal, Batangas

Taal is a hidden gem with its well-preserved buildings and culture. As a camera enthusiast, I enjoy visiting the Galleria Taal, the first vintage camera museum in the Philippines, and the Casas and old churches. But of course, I always come here for their lomi, Tawilis, and Tapang Batangas.

3. Tayabas, Quezon

A few hours away from the Metro is the captivating and breathtaking city of Tayabas. This town is the home of UNESCO-worthy churches, heritage houses, and great food such as the Budin, Inihaw na Hito, Grilled Squid, and the buzz-worthy Yema cakes.

4. Pagsanjan, Laguna

I love adventures, that is why I love going to Pagsanjan, Laguna. There are plenty of activities that I can do around this area. I can either book a day trip package and go boat riding and swimming or go on a gastronomic adventure and eat from their several restaurants serving native delicacies.

5. Tagaytay City

Foreign and local tourists enjoy the attraction that Tagaytay City has to offer: And I am one of them. If I don’t have time to cool down and go to Baguio City, Tagaytay is my second option. This place is a food haven where I can go and enjoy a cup of coffee or chocolate, eat desserts or satisfy my Bulalo cravings.

As a digital nomad, I consider myself lucky since I don’t have to wait for the upcoming holiday just to spend staycations in different places. In fact, I can literally go anytime and anywhere while working and keeping up with the deadlines at the same time.

My top 3 favorite travel gadgets

With my favorite travel gadgets, I don’t need to worry about having a boring and long road trip. I can spend my idle time watching Netflix or Youtube videos, listen to Spotify, update my friends and follower through my social media accounts, and even blog using my mobile phone’s WordPress app.

Doing all of these will not be possible if I don’t have my Smart Bro LTE 2-in-1 Pocket WiFi with built-in Powerbank. I used it during my recent out of town trips, and it lasted the whole day. That’s what you call reliable gadget, right?

Long Weekend Holiday destinations

During my trips, I always practice making new friends. I talk to the person next to me or ask a vendor for shopping and food suggestions. The locals are the best people to ask for enjoy the trip to the fullest.

After all, they know the ins and outs of the place. They can even share the top secret spots that not all people know! Having a long weekend of road trip and relaxation is always rewarding.

Ever since this popular movie came out in the cinema (That Thing Called Tadhana), people started to embark on a sudden road trip to Sagada. I, myself, also wanted to witness this hidden gem of the north that’s why last May 2016 we’ve had our vacation there. For this trip, we availed a tour package from Travel Galore Tours and Services for just P2999.00 only (good for 2 pax)! It comes with accommodation & complete tours already.

But if you’re a fan of D-I-Y trips, here’s a quick guide to Sagada Province.

How to get there?

There are daily bus trips from Manila to Banaue that leave at 10:00 p.m., with tickets costing a reasonable Php600 per person. The transit companies plying this route are Autobus and Dangwa Tranco, and both have terminals in Sampaloc, Manila.

At the Banaue bus terminal there are jeepneys, and sometimes mini-buses or vans, waiting to take passengers to Sagada. The jeepney ride costs about Php250 per person, and it takes another 3 to 4 hours to get to Sagada.

Here’s our detailed itinerary for 3 days & 2 nights:

DAY 0: DEPARTURE FROM MANILA 8:00 PM Pick-Up at SMX Convention Center (MOA) 10:30 PM Pick-Up at McDonalds near SM North EDSA

(As for us, we choose SMX Convention Center (MOA) pickup, but it depends on your location and which pick up points you preferred.)

DAY 1: BANAUE & SAGADA TOWN TOUR 8:00 AM Breakfast on Pax Account at Banaue Rice Terraces 9:00 AM Start of Tour • View Deck Photo • Mt. Polis • Bontoc Terraces 12:30 NN Check in & Lunch 02:00 PM Central Sagada Eco-Tour (3 Hours Loop Hike) – (Activity Fee Included) • Echo Valley • Hanging coffins • Sagada Underground River • St. Mary’s Episcopal Church • Bokong Natural Swimming Pool passing thru small river, valley/canyon and rice fields • Sagada Weaving 5:00 PM Return to Accommodation • Free time for Souvenir Shopping

PLACES WE’VE VISITED

This is our 1st stop. It took us 13 hours to reach this place via land. So imagine the feeling of excitement just by seeing this signage! :)

BONTOC TERRACES (Entrance Fee: NONE!)

For me, it was like a love at first sight! I was awe of this God’s creation. I can’t imagine how they made it with their own hands. Truly, one of Wonders of the World.

Fortunately, we’ve met one Bontoc people/Igorot. (correct me if I’m wrong) Look at the smile on his face! :)

ECHO VALLEY (After a short walk from the main road, we’ve reach Echo valley. Our tourist guide told us that if we shouted, it would bounce back, just like an ECHO!)

HANGING COFFINS (Sagada is famous for its hanging coffins. This is a traditional way of burying people that is still utilized. Not everyone is qualified to be buried this way; among other things, one had to have been married and had grandchildren) source: Google

SAGADA UNDERGROUND RIVER (Before we reach this river, it started to rain so imagine the feeling of walking and trekking in the forest and you’re all wet. It’s freezing!)

BOKONG NATURAL SWIMMING POOL (passing thru small river, valley/canyon and rice fields) Like I’ve told you, it rained so hard that day so the water is so unclear)

DAY 2: SOUTHERN SAGADA TOUR 8:00 AM Breakfast on Pax Account 9:00 AM Free Time for Optional Activity A. Start of Short Course Caving ( 1-2 Hours) – (P125/pax) • Dokiw Hanging Coffins View Point • Lumiang Burial Cave Entrance • Sumaging/Big Cave entry & exit pt. • Rice Terraces View Point 12:00 NN Lunch 1:00 PM Free time for Optional Activity or Own Leisure B. Cave Connection – 4 Hrs Cave Spelunking from Lumiang/Burial Cave to Sumaging/Big Cave (P400/pax) C. Bomod-ok Falls – Trekking and Sightseeing (P180/pax) 5:00 PM Return to Hotel

PLACES TO VISIT

We started with our activities at 4am. The weather is freezing and we’re still sleepy. We went to our 1st and only destination which is Sumaging/Big Cave. It’s really dark inside the cave and you can instantly smell the bats poop already. Since its our first time to try caving, I’m kinda scared but excited at the same time.

After that tiring activity, we rest for a while and make our own side trip.

DAY 3: BENGUET & BAGUIO TOUR 5:00 AM Kiltepan Rice Terraces Sunrise Viewing (If weather/fog conditions permit) – (Activity Fee Included) 7:00 AM Check out and Departure to Benguet 12:30 PM Lunch at La Trinidad, Benguet 1:30 PM • Strawberry Farm • Souvenir Shopping 3:00 PM Departure to Baguio 3:30 PM Lion’s Head at Kennon Road 10:00 PM Arrival in Manila

PLACES TO VISIT

KILTEPAN TERRACES SUNRISE VIEWING (Note: You really had to wake up early because you’ll never know the exact time the sun will rise and people started to occupy the place. It’s really worth your time because you’ll get to witness the amazing view of sunrise, sea of clouds and awesome scenery of rice terraces. The place also reminds me of the movie Twilight)
