"Enjoy Your Travel with These Simple Techniques!"
Are you planning a trip to an exotic destination? Taking a business trip? Visiting friends or family? Then make sure you're prepared by reading the rest of this article. In this post, we'll be going over everything you need to have a safe, successful trip, no matter why you're taking it.
When traveling by air, if you find that you need to check your bags, make sure you keep at least a change of clothing with you in your carry-on bag. Then, if your luggage accidentally gets lost and the airline has to track it down, you'll at least have a clean change of clothes. Even if it takes a day or two to find your luggage and get it for you, you can most likely wash your clothing at your hotel.
Preparing a road trip entertainment kit for children can help make sure your family vacation is a dream instead of a nightmare. There is no better way to see the country than a road trip. However, it is essential that your children stay entertained to combat the boredom of a long car ride. Pack travel versions of popular games, cards, and older children may enjoy a journal in which to document their experiences.
Before you leave on your trip, make sure you are up to date on all your vaccinations. If you are taking any prescription medications, be sure to bring extra along just in case. There is always the chance that your departure might be delayed, and you don't want to run out.
To avoid any awkward confrontations, do some research if you are traveling to a foreign nation. This includes looking up standard phrases such as "thank you," "how much," and "how are you." You should also look around for standard customs of the country, such as gestures, so that you can avoid offending anyone with gestures or body language that seem normal to you.
When traveling to tropical areas, always keep your dirty laundry in a closed bag. Hotels and homes in tropical parts of the world aren't as bug-proof as most American homes. Dirty laundry will attract insects, especially ants, meaning that clothing that was simply dirty is now completely unwearable for the rest of the trip.
Traveling by bicycle can have many positive effects on a person and one the overall traveling experience. It will allow one to see everything from a very different perspective. It will also save one from buying gas and increase amounts of exercise one gets. The bicycle should not be overlooked.
The more you plan, the cheaper the flight should be for you. Try and plan your trips ahead of time and budget how much money you want to spend on flights and hotels, as well as, how much you want to spend on leisure activities. Planning out your trip in advance helps you manage your money properly and ensures that you will have a better time.
Now that you've gone over everything you might need to know before you take your trip, you're ready to go and have fun! Traveling can be a lot of fun as well as being a productive thing to do. Whatever your reason, it's always important to be safe and prepared. Have a great trip!"

03/15 ENTRY: late night thoughts
This photo was taken from one of the beaches in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte during our family vacation last 2016. I remember having to finish my thesis defense in the morning before leaving for this vacation. Luckily, our professors were kind enough to keep their questions minimal so my group could finish immediately before I miss my flight. My uncle picked me up at the school at that time, dropped me off at home to change and get my things then rushed me to the airport with his bike. He drove so fast that the 30mins ride to airport was cut to 15mins. And yes, I made it before boarding time. My family was already there at the boarding gate waiting for me. And since, they were the last ones to check-in, we were seated at the back part of the plane.
We departed from hometown around lunchtime and arrived at Manila by the afternoon. We strolled around MOA, one of the largest shopping mall in the Asia, and checked-in somewhere near our meet-up place for the Ilocos tour. Oh, here in PH, tour packages are like the go-to-option if you want to travel and visit number of tourist spots on a budget.
The travel from the Metro to the province was like 12 hours! My fucking butt felt like its burning. We had multiple stop overs to get some food and use the comfort room. Like hello?! Who can even hold their pee for that long?! I remember when my father joked that the drivers were might on drugs cus they were able to stay up and drive for that long and fast LOL!
Anyways, the story behind the picture kinda went a long way from the words written in the photo. Arent related but I couldnt find other beach photos that could relate to the things running through my head right now and I kinda saw this photo whilst I was scrolling through my IG account (Yes, I stalk myself. So?), so I used this photo instead.

Ultimate Vigan Escape: Budget DIY Itinerary for Ilocos Sur Tour
[ TAKEOFFPHILIPPINES.com ] A great time to end my month-long vacation on this New7Wonders in the World, Vigan, Ilocos Sur. Its rich history made it to the list of the Unesco Heritage Site as this city was established roughly 16th century now but still, the preservation of the architectural design are visible in the city even on their urban development program.
The main attraction of tourist here in Vigan is its preservation of almost 187 ancestral house in town, colonial structured churches, donation-driven museums, a free-roaming zoo and local Ilocano restaurants which is a must visit.
Tumblr media
It was an exciting trip that I can’t forget as this was our first trip together with Gab going up north in Ilocos Region. It was really tiring but fun at the same time as we were simply backpackers. You can roam around the city within 2 - 3 days. We’ve got to experience The Ultimate Vigan Escape for a rough estimate of Php 5,000.
Here are a travel guide and a sample DIY itinerary going to Vigan if your planning to visit this city soon.
Where to Ride Going to Vigan?
As Vigan is located here in Luzon, we can either go for a land or air transportation. There are many Vigan Tour Package offerings on every travel agency that you could try. It may include a van going to Vigan for an easy and worry-free trip but As for us, we decided to ride a bus. We felt that the best way to enjoy the trip is to experience riding it on the public transportation.
Tumblr media
We tried Partas Bus using their Online Booking System. There are several bus companies you can try on your Vigan trip but since convenience is our priority we ride on a Partas Bus. I recommend their good and fast service on accommodating our concern during our trip.
Express Bus Via TPLEX Fare: Php 760.00 (1 route, 5 - 6 hours travel time, 1 Stopover in between)
Riding a Partas First Class Express got us the following privileges:
Cuts your travel time by up to 4 hours! (Pasay to Laoag)
No passenger pick-ups along the road
Only one stopover
TPLEX
Terminal to terminal rates apply even for drop-offs
GPS-monitored
TV
Air-conditioned
Tumblr media
Our Terminal Origin Address:
Aurora Blvd. cor. Edang St., Pasay City, Metro Manila. This terminal is along Tramo and alongside Five Star terminal.

Touring Around Vigan: Mode of Transportation
Vigan is a capital in Ilocos Sur that you can encapsulate your activities with just a day or two since its just a small town. Tourist spots along the Vigan proper are walking distance from each other but always prepare yourselves with a big bottled water and umbrella since the scorching heat of the sun is very imminent. Places like Baluarte, River Cruise, Mindoro Beach, Bantay Church Bell Tower seems to need to go for a ride since its a bit far.
Tumblr media
The main transportation used by people here is either the tricycle or a kalesa (horse-drawn carriages). If you’re looking for a more intimate time I would suggest riding a kalesa to enjoy the scenery but if you have limited time like us I would prefer riding a tricycle.
Tricycle Fee: Php 20 - up (Depends on the distance)
Kalesa Fee: starts at Php 150
Where to Stay in Vigan?
While exploring the streets of Vigan, we’ve noticed that each corner has numerous choice of hotels, inns and transient houses. Name it! You won’t have any problems looking for one. All you have to do is to be keen in looking for more affordable and cheaper rooms from the internet.
Luckily we found the right tool to search for affordable hotels in Vigan by using Traveloka. Traveloka helps you book your hotels and flights in less than 5 minutes with just a click away. They even had promos that you can use while booking.  You can check their website or download their app on Android and IOS to try it first hand on this travel booking app.
Since we want to visit all the well-known tourist spots around Vigan City with less cost but still has a decent accommodation we landed on Mel Sol’s Inn and Resort at Bantay, Ilocos Sur, a 5-6 minutes tricycle ride from Vigan Proper.

When in Vigan: Where to Go?
We arrived at Vigan earlier than expected, we didn’t foresee that our bus has a new that's why we have ample time to roam around and go to church to start our Sunday with a positive outlook.
Simbaan A Basit
Liberation Blvd, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
It is located at the edge of a Cemetery in Vigan. According to history, the cemetery chapel was built over a century now and it is dedicated to Santo Cristo also known in Ilocos as “Apo Lakay” who is believed to save Vigan’s populace from a plague in 1756 and 1882.
Tumblr media
The chapel’s marker bears that the cemetery was blessed by Rev. Vicente Barreiro on Nov. 9, 1852 but the chapel’s interior now looks modern with all the repairs done through the years. Its name "Simbaan a Bassit" literally means "Small Church", since it’s a small it can only accommodate up to 100 people.
Tumblr media
Vigan Heritage Village - Calle Crisologo
Crisologo, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
After a mass at Simbaan A Basit, we decided to stroll around Vigan and search the well known Vigan Heritage Village wherein it was considered as a UNESCO Heritage Site as it helps out preserved the culture and history of Ilocos Region.
Tumblr media
You can explore those old houses with a century older than me by riding a Kalesa (horse wagon)  or by simply walking on the streets, as it also helps out burn some calories. It is much appreciated during the night as you can feel the romantic ambiance and stunningly beautiful light post in the area.
Mostly you can have your dinner on this streets as they have plenty restaurants to choose from and buy some cool stuffs on souvenir shops.
Tumblr media
Vigan Cathedral / St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral
Burgos St., Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
After not so far from Vugan Heritage Village you can visit again a nearby church. Vigan Cathedral, It is a Roman Catholic Cathedral in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. It serves as the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia.
According to history, The church itself was built in 1641 to replace the chapel and became a cathedral when the seat of the Diocese of Nueva Segovia was transferred here from Lal-lo, Cagayan in 1758, but not before being ravaged by a fire in 1739.
Tumblr media
The Cathedral of Vigan, as it is sometimes called, is a stunning tribute to Baroque architecture modified by the Ilocanos to survive earthquakes. It also has a bit of Chinese influence thanks to the carvings of lion dogs beside the outermost doors.
Plaza Salcedo
Plaza Salcedo, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
Tumblr media
Right in front of Saint Paul Metropolitan Cathedral is the Plaza Salcedo, named after the Spanish conqueror, Juan de Salcedo who subdued the early native settlement in Vigan and established upon it Villa Fernandina for the monarchs of Spain in 1572. With this, Juan de Salcedo founded the third of many Hispanic settlements in the Philippines. Plaza Salcedo was the site of the execution of Gabriela Silang in September 1763.
According to history, the plaza was susceptible to fire during the Spanish regime. So the plan then was to create a man-made lagoon to minimize fire incidents. The original concept dating back several years ago is retained until March 2013 wherein a dramatic addition has been added to the once quiet and laid back park in between the Vigan Cathedral and the Ilocos Sur Capitol. The addition is a majestic dancing fountain.

20 tour operators to visit Ilocos Norte
#PHnews: 20 tour operators to visit Ilocos Norte
LAOAG CITY – At least 20 domestic tour operators who are active members of the Philippine Tourism Operators Inc. (PHILTOA) are set to visit Ilocos Norte on February 1-3, 2021 to familiarize themselves with the new normal tourism products the province is offering.
"The three-day familiarization tour aims to let our visitors experience our new tourism products and make our tourism guidelines known not only for tourists but also to our partner tour operators who are expected to facilitate the visit of our tourists,” said Xavier Ruiz, senior tourism operations officer of Ilocos Norte Tourism Office (INTO), in a press conference held at the Capitol Bonsai Garden on Wednesday.
The visit coincides with the 203rd founding anniversary of Ilocos Norte which used to be a crowd-drawing event during pre-Covid times.
According to Ruiz, part of the itinerary includes a visit to the province’s new normal attractions such as experiencing free diving and snorkeling at the Badoc Island, a visit at the newly-established Filipino-Chinese Friendship Garden located near the Malacanang of the North Complex, a taste of drive-in cinema featuring Ilocos Norte' scenic landscape at the sprawling sand dunes of Paoay and an eco-tour at the Pagudpud wind farm in Barangay Caparispisan.
Ruiz said they are pushing for these new normal attractions for visitors of Ilocos Norte to experience something new about the province this year.
“When you think of Ilocos Norte from years back, we always think of beaches, waterfalls, museums and churches but it is not known to many that Ilocos Norte has also under the sea attractions which we, locals enjoy during the pandemic,” he said.
In the next few weeks, the INTO announced there will be some changes in the tourism guidelines which are expected to ease visitor’s compliance to various documents being required at the border.
Since the reopening of tourism in October last year, Ilocos Norte tourist arrivals including expats working in Luzon have plunged from a million to merely 600 visitors to date.
To increase visitors' confidence, Provincial Tourism Officer Aianree Raquel reported tourism stakeholders here continue to re-strategize to increase the number of tourist arrivals particularly on domestic tourism.
With a grant of almost PHP9 million from the Tourism Promotions Board of the Philippines, Raquel said the amount will be utilized to further promote Ilocos Norte's new tourism packages and ensure that tourists are safe when visiting these sites.
“Our goal this year is to improve the numbers and improve our services with focus on our safety,” he said citing at least 2,000 tourism workers will also be undergoing free (Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) RT-PCR testing for the safety of tourists who visit Ilocos Norte.
The INTO underscored the spike of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the province recently was not in any way tourism-related. (PNA)

Paoay Sand Dunes, A Thrilling Ride!
The Ilocos Sand Dunes Stretches encompasses the towns of Currimao through to Pasuquin in Ilocos Norte. The La Paz Sand Dunes in Laoag City is one of the more popular sand dune destinations in Ilocos Norte. But more recently, the PAOAY SAND DUNES is remarkably gaining popularity to tourists travelling up north.
Tumblr media
To start your Paoay Sand Dunes Adventure, hire a 4x4 Rough Riding vehicle at the base of the site. A fleet of these 4x4s are at your disposal and a professional driver will be your guide to the vast sand dunes. For 1,500php for a maximum of 5 people per car, the driver will tour the group at the Sand dunes for 30 minutes. Sightseeing and photo sessions can be done for this package.
Tumblr media
For the more adventurous type, rent the 4x4 for an hour which will then include sand boarding and thrilling drops on steep sand ridges that will make you scream in excitement. Hold on to the steel bar while standing on the 4x4 for the most exciting adventure in Paoay. The sand ridges can go as high as 10-20ft at the most, while the most thrilling ride is the “rollercoaster”, where a series of sand hills will make you hold on to that bar of steel for dear life.
Tumblr media
After these rides, try sand boarding where a plank of wood is your equipment to slide over sand folds in the vast landscape. It has the same discipline as skate boarding, such as balance is the key to the sport. The soft sand is your cushion and your defense to the fear of trying again. If you do it once and get over the fear, I can assure that you’ll do it over and over again. It was that much fun! The hardest and most tiring aspect of the sport? Going up again the sandy slope after sliding down, but this will not prevent you to try and try until you do it perfectly. This package will cost 2,500php.

ILOCOS TOUR 2019
The Ilocos Region is home to the most amazing tourist destinations in the country. I was pleasantly surprised that even up to now, this trip to Ilocos remains on my short list of my best domestic travels. Ilocos is pure love.
Each place has its element. Each place offers an intimate relationship with nature. I believes, for obvious reasons, that wind is the element of this wonderful region. the Bangui Windmills is a proof but really, when you’re in Ilocos, you’ll feel like it is a “wind realm,” not just because of its presence and power but also there’s this constant feeling of being embraced by the wind. I don’t know, the wind there seemed to welcome and entertain us.
During visit, Pagudpud is my favorite part of the tour. A well maintained and clean beach. Crystal clear blue water and white sand, Pagudpud Ilocos Norte is the Boracay of the north less crowded and less commercialized. A Great Beach Indeed! I just love the place and I wish to come back and stay longer to fully enjoy the place has to offer.
Our trip began with a meet up at the foodcourt in Robinsons Galleria, 730PM SHARP is the call time but you know the Filipino time. We were a group of 12 inlcluding My daughter, a tour guide and a driver was with us. We were able to leave the place 2 hours later. (HAHAHA! FILIPINO TIME) We had several stopovers starting at a gas station along NLEX. Truth is, I actually don’t remember much about our moments inside the van because I was sleeping most of the time. However, every time we stop (which happened 5 times so some of us could buy food, pee, buy food, and pee) I would wake up but would go back to dreamland after 2 seconds.
Day 1 :  The tour started when we arrived at ILOCOS NORTE at 4AM. Actually We expect to arrive in Ilocos at 9am . (Di ko alam kung anong nangyari, basta ang bilis.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next time I woke up we were on the kapurpurawan Rock formation in Burgos, Ilocos Norte.
Tumblr media
Tucked in the coast of Burgos, Ilocos Norte, just 1.5 kilometers away from Laoag City, is a breathtaking rock formation by the beach known for its creamy white rock surface sculpted by natural phenomena.
The Kapurpurawan Rock Formation is an art of nature featuring a landscape of smooth ivory limestone produced by the natural process of sedimentation. It’s name’s root word, “puraw”, is an Ilocano word which translates to “white” because of the alabaster rock formations that the tourists would love to see.
Tumblr media
In front of the rocks is the view of the Bangui Bay’s crystal blue waters and the visually appealing sight of the waves dramatically thumping against the limestone formations makes the scene a picture perfect moment in every way possible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, the numerous towering windmills from the neighboring Burgos Wind Farm will you as you drive towards the drop-off point of the rock formation. No wonder that this has become one of Burgos’ best tourist attraction.
Tumblr media
Kapurpurawan’s drop-off point is three kilometers away from the main highway. From the entrance, visitors have to go down a flight of stairs near the souvenir shops, then trek towards the rocky coast to reach the rock formation. The path is not too steep but take note that it can be muddy.
While trekking, you will see a statue of the Biag ni Lam-ang, an Ilocano epic poem.
Tumblr media
For those who want to don’t want to walk, there are available horses to ride on for just Php 100 per person and Php10 If you only want to take picture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(SOBRANG SAYA NOH! HABANG UMIIYAK YUNG KILI-KILI HAHAHA!)
It is advised to wear comfortable clothes and footwear or bring a jacket to avoid getting cold, wet, or any possible accidents while trekking. Also take note that flying of drones is not allowed in the area due to the strong winds.
It is best to visit Kapurpurawan on early mornings to avoid the harsh sun or sometimes rain showers in the afternoon, and the crowd. Other nearby attractions in Burgos that one can visit after Kapurpurawan is the Cape Bojeador Lighthouse and Bangui Windmill Farm.
the next stop..
the Bangui Windmills, I’d been longing to see these enormous electric fans since the news broke that there were plans of harnessing wind energy in the Philippines. I had seen windmills before in Pililia Rizal but ofcourse I want to see the windmill here in Ilocos.
On the way to the site, everyone got so excited because we could already see the windmills. Everyone prepared their cameras and flip flops, the girls wore their hair up. When our van finally halted, everyone stormed out of the vehicle as if it were about to explode. It was that crazy.
We didn’t expect these windmills to be that huge. Of course we knew they were big but NOT that big. It was a little difficult to find the right angle from which we could see most of the towers.
Tumblr media
We were also expecting 15 of them but I think there were more. We counted it but now that we’re back in the city, nobody remembers how many are there exactly.
Tumblr media
Paraiso ni Anton is one of the few stops of the Pagudpud, a local tourism project of the municipality that aims to bring visitors to Pagudpud’s top-notch destinations. Tourist take photos while locals take a sip of the waters dripping from the hill.
Tumblr media
After then, We slowly climbed the concrete stairway after approaching the site. We chanted a little prayer in front of the Virgin Mary statuette. Then We stepped down and proceeded to the watery part of the hill. Silently, We put our palms together and fetched some drips and then sipped.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some other locals came with containers and filled them with the water flowing from the small stream.
Witnessing all these made me wonder that these waters may uphold some sort of mystery. Then I found out that locals believe that the water that drips down to the hillside of Paraiso ni Anton contain some healing energy. They believe that drinking the water will cure their mild ailments and in some cases, even the severe ones.
There is also another story circulating among frequent travelers in the area. A white lady seemed to appear within the vicinity scaring drivers. So to pay respect, drivers slow down then blow their horns when passing Paraiso ni Anton.
Whether these stories are legend or not, as long as they don’t get harmed, there is nothing wrong about it.
Patapat Viaduct History
Patapat Viaduct is located in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte. This is considered as the 4th longest bridge in the country with a total of 1.3 kilometers in length that connects the Maharlika Highway from Laoag, Ilocos Norte to the Cagayan Valley Region.
It was completed on October 1986 and has since become an important structure for motorists and travelers in the northernmost tip of Luzon.
The moment we stepped out of the van, we were all pleased with what we saw. I kind’a have an idea of what a viaduct looks like. An elevated bridge usually located on valleys. But Patapat is different. It is a coastal bridge elevated for about 31 meters above sea level. It has a beautiful view of the sea and by finding a good spot, you can have a perfect view of the entire length of the bridge.
Tumblr media
Well, more than the value it provides to people. Patapat Viaduct is a perfect spot for any groufie or selfie. Since that time, there was just a little number of motorists that pass through the bridge, we were able to walk and explore it further.
Tumblr media
 JUMPSHOT WITH THE GANG
Then we finally arrived in our transient house in Pagudpud. We actually arrived at the transient house around 12:30pm but we were sooo tired so we decided to had lunch in carinderia near in our transient.  I had heard so many good things about Pagudpud that I just had to see for myself. But even when we were still at the Bangui Windmills, we knew swimming at this time of the year would be quite a challenge .
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blue Lagoon is one of the many isolated beaches of Pagudpud. It is located in Maira-ira point, the northern most tip of mainland Luzon. The cove is strewn with white pebbly sand. the waters off the coast can be very gentle and still, reflecting the blue sky, earning its name.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Afterwards, we decided to just walk on the sand and bask in the sun. The sand here was not as fine as those in Bohol or Boracay. They were more like little pebbles but very rounded so they didn’t hurt our skin.
After more than an hour of swimming, we decided to head back to our room and have some snacks and dinner and went to bed for rest.
Tumblr media
before the day ends, We finally prepared our Surprise Birthday Party for Mamoy. the other gang took her to coffee shop and the other prepared the decorations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day 2 : Our Day started earlier than 6am. With renewed energy, we were more than excited to hit the road again especially that we already had an idea on what was in store for us that day.

The sand ridges can go as high as 10-20ft at the most, while the most thrilling ride is the “rollercoaster”, where a series of sand hills will make you hold on to that bar of steel for dear life.

Ps. Sorry Mamoy insert ko tong picture na to, Ito kasi talaga yung nagdala sa tour natin na to hahahahaha Love you.
It was that much fun! The hardest and most tiring aspect of the sport? Going up again the sandy slope after sliding down, but this will not prevent you to try and try until you do it perfectly. This package will cost 2,500php.
Next in our itinerary was the Paoay Church. I must say, I had very high expectations. It was one of the places that I was really looking forward to visiting in this trip. I’d seen hundreds of pictures of this UNESCO World Heritage Site and each one of them blew me away. But boy, none of those pictures did justice to the immense beauty of this ancient religious site!
This church is beyond beautiful. It’s beyond magnificent. Its grandeur cannot be contained in pictures or described with words. It’s just impossible.
Tumblr media
The first thing we did was take pictures, of course. It was past 11am and the sun was at its cruelest so we had to find some shade and get some rest even for a minute. Then We had our lunch near the church.
Moments later, we were walking around the church and continued taking pictures. Here are a few of them:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ARCHITECTURE AND HISTORY OF PAOAY CHURCH
Also known as the St. Augustine Church, the Paoay Church was started to be constructed in 1694 by the Augustinian friars but it was only in 1894 when it was finally completed. Fr. Antonio Estavillo led the completion of this project.
The architecture of this church is a healthy mixture of Gothic and Baroque designs with some Oriental elements in it. Its facade is somewhat Gothic but the gables are quite Chinese. The niches topping the walls make you think of Indonesia’s Borobudur Temple, revealing some Javanese influence.
One of the best parts of the church is its three-storey bell tower made of coral stone. Standing a couple of meters from the church, this belfry served as one of the observations posts for the Katipuneros in 1896 in the height of the Philippine Revolt against Spain. During the World War II, it was again used as an observation post by the Filipino guerillas.
Some parts of the church were heavily damaged during the earthquakes in 1885 and 1865. Again and again, it was restored.
In 2000, an excavation inside Paoay Church revealed a prehistoric human skeleton and some fragmented ceramics. They are now being exhibited at the National Museum.
Afterwards, we finally got in Vigan. We explored the city particularly Calle Crisologo, had some halo-halo at the Max’s, bought a tonne of pasalubong and hit the road back to Manila.
Vigan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a museum city. Established in the 16th century, this historic city gives the new generation the best glimpse of a planned colonial town during the Spanish rule in the Philippines. It is also one of the few European trading towns in Southeast Asia that are still in exceptional condition.
Tumblr media
Calle Crisologo is probably the most visited street in Vigan. Walking down Calle Crisologo  is like walking into the Spanish colonial era. Many of the houses here belonged to prominent families who prospered because of the Manila-Acapulco trade.  It is flanked with old heritage houses, which keep the “period” charm of the place. Most houses feature a unique mixture of Asian and European design and architecture — red-tiled roofs, large doors, massive walls, capiz shell windows.
Tumblr media
We actually had spent some time in this beautiful city on our first day but we had very limited time to see much of it. Because we had to be back in Manila by 5pm, We only had half a day to explore the old city and buy some pasalubong for our friends and relatives back in the capital.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We only had three things in our agenda that morning — camwhore, shop, lunch. We started scouring the area for Vigan longganisa but along the way, we found ourselves buying hats, shirts, and bottles of native vinegar while taking tons of picture.
Before the Spanish arrived, Vigan was just a small village made of bamboo houses on stilts. According to UNESCO: “In 1572 the conquistador Juan de Salcedo founded a new town, which he named Villa Ferdinandina, on this site, and made it his capital when he was appointed Lieutenant Governor (Encomendero) of the entire Ilocos region. Intended as a trading centre rather than a fortress, it was the northernmost city established in the Philippines by the Spanish.
“Vigan’s architecture reflects the coming together of cultural elements from elsewhere in the Philippines, from China and from Europe, resulting in a culture and townscape that have no parallel anywhere in East and Southeast Asia.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Old Quirino Bridge will never spoil your urge. Even though you have been in this place a lot of times, a moment in this place is such a precious one to take photos.
Just before the Old Quirino Bridge at Bantay Side, you will pass crossway the new Quirino Bridge. But before going to the Old bridge, we stopped at the new bridge for pictorials.
Just before the Old Bridge again, since it has not been used lately, the forest covering the highway going there has been reborn by nature. Without the intervention of human, the forest is slowly gaining its role in this place. I was so happy!
And finally head back to MANILA..

SPENDING WEEKENDS AT ILOCANDIA
After several times of rescheduling our trips, we are finally down to our trip to Ilocos. It is not new to us to be part of a group as a joiner traveler. And so we came into this package tour with Itravel Philippines for 3D 2N with jampacked of activities and also with nice accommodations and food.
Let’s start our awesome ILOCOS Adventures!
Our assembly time was 2 am; Oct 7, 2016 at ortigas and depart at around 3am. Our first stop is a breakfast at La Union (not quite sure with the location), then we headed first at Ilocos Sur and drop by a scenic view on the way.  Here’s a beautiful morning view for us to take  some pictures.
Tumblr media
Then we headed to the Bantay Bridge (the old Banaoang Bridge and Quirino Bridge) The two bridges are 350 meters apart, the old truss type Banaoang Bridge was damaged last 2011 and a new bridge was built to replace it and was named Quirino Bridge. Then the old bridge was reconstructed and became also passable but not as the main bridge, it also become as one of the tourist attraction before heading to Vigan and was an iconic symbol of Ilocos Sur.
And yeah! it feels like we owned the bridge!!
Tumblr media
Next in our itinerary is the Bell tower and Bantay Church,  it is about 15 minutes Kalesa ride from the Calle Crisologo of Vigan City. The Bantay Church is also known as the St. Augustine Parish Church. And it is considered as one of the oldest churches in the Province of Ilocos Sur.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before taking our Lunch we headed to Baluarte Vigan City’s Zoo. The time we went there was quite hot and we don’t feel like roaming around even though the place was beautiful and fun to explore. we just got to the nearest spot and stay there and we are also hungry that time :). Maybe I’ll go back here when I went back to Vigan again.
Also i just want to share that ohhh  I saw a camel!!! and dinosaurs even if it’s not real, it’s awesome cause it feels like real!
Tumblr media
And then we headed to our lunch in Hidden Garden. Me and my sister are not so foodie and so we ended up just ordering bagnet sisig and fresh buko juice. And the verdict? well yeah its yummy!
Tumblr media
After our lunch, we headed to two more stops before checking in to our hotel. We went to Vigan pottery (RG Pottery Factory), where you can experience making some pots.
Tumblr media
Then another place is the Crisologo Museum,  it has memorabilia for the late Congressman Floro S. Crisologo. The antique car there was said to be the car used by  Carmeling Crisologo when she was ambushed but survived on May 10, 1961 at Bacsil, San Juan, Ilocos Sur. And there are more interesting stories and details you can check in this museum.
Tumblr media
After the long and tiring, but fun day, we sure need some rest before strolling at the famous Kalye Crisologo. Our tour coordinator accompanied us to our hotel - Mojica Residencia Hotel.
Tumblr media
Their place was nice and quiet. Our room was also nice and just right for us to take some rest. Their location was also the best because they are just one street away from Kalye Crisologo.
At around 5pm we started to stroll around the Kalye Crisologo, and tried riding a Kalesa for 150.00, Manong gave us a tour around Vigan and it was fun. And we have observed that they gave much respect to the kalesa drivers there and it was good to know.
Tumblr media
Then we bought some Vigan Empanada from one of the famous store there -Irene’s Empanada recommended by my boss which is also from Ilocos, And some Vigan longganisa for our dinner. Then we visited the Vigan Church and the Famous Plaza where they have show, but that time they don’t have a schedule for the fountain show, so we are not able see it tho. There are also lots of souvenir shops there and restaurants/fast food chains in vintage look. I wasn’t able to take some pictures cause there are really lots of tourist wandering around. :) We just appreciated the views.
Tumblr media
That sums up our first day at Ilocos Sur. We surely will have more bunch of activities for the second day which will be heading to Ilocos Norte. :)
I’ll be making the next part of this ILOCANDIA Adventures :)

A journey
Tumblr media
Junea Fe Sagun Salvador was born on the 30th of August 2003 in Camiling, Tarlac. Her parents are named Evelyn S. Salvador and Fernando B. Salvador Jr. She grows up with her grandparents by her side since her father works abroad while her mother is a professional teacher. She also has an older sister named Shienalyn S. Salvador.
Tumblr media
At the age of 3, she started to study and she became close to music. Junea loves to sing and dance. She joined a lot of contest and she also performs well in school. Junea’s grandparents are always her biggest supporters.
At the age of 5, Junea started to like books. She loves to listen while her grandmother tells her a story before bedtime. Until now, her favorite genres are science fiction and mysteries.
Tumblr media
Junea graduated primary at the age of 11 at Surgui Elementary School. She graduated as a valedictorian so her father’s graduation gift is to take her to Boracay Island in Aklan, Philippines. It is known as one of the tourist spot in the Philippines due to its stunning white beach. The turquoise water is great for swimming and the white and creamy sand never gets hot. Night life in Boracay is fantastic. There are live music and fire dancing performances. The food at the beach tastes really good and the restaurants there have 23 different sea foods and they offer many preparations for an affordable price.  As she stated, her favorite memory is watching the sunset with her loved ones.
At the moment, she is now a senior high school student. Junea is studying at Camiling Catholic School. She is taking the strand Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. She wants to be a great neurosurgeon in the future. Her hobbies are scrolling through the internet, playing with her pets, eating and specially sleeping. There is one thing she most wants to achieve in her life; to travel the world. Travelling places an important role in our lives. It is an opportunity to relax and unwind from a busy schedule on studies or on work. Junea loves to travel for some reasons, first is to learn. She wants to learn new things from other places. She wants to know what kind of nature or habits a particular place had. Second, is to gain some friends. Third, it provides you unforgettable memories and experiences and lastly, it is the best way to have some fun.
Since then, Junea’s family always visits the beach after going to the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary of Manaoag or when someone is celebrating his or her birthday.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last summer 2017, Junea’s family and friends spend time in Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte, Philippines. Her loved ones drive around at Calle Crisologo in Vigan which is the famous street with the Spanish houses. As well as the Paoay Church, Bangui Windmills and Saud beach. In addition, Junea and her loved ones visited the Malacaῆang of the North. It is the residence of the former president of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos.
Tumblr media
One of her finest and most memorable adventures of her life so far was visiting the hidden resort in Sual, Pangasinan.  It is located in a peaceful small town at Sitio Masamirey, Baybay Norte, Sual, Pangasinan. Masamirey Cove Resort is over 2 hours away from Camiling, Tarlac and 4 hours away if from Manila. The drive may be long but the scenery is alluring since there are lots of pine trees on the road. Arriving at the resort, Junea and her family paid a day tour package worth 485 pesos per person. The resort also deals an overnight package. The master bedroom can accommodate 2 persons inclusive of breakfast that is worth 5,780 pesos or a family bedroom that can accommodate 4 persons inclusive of breakfast that is worth 7,800 pesos. Masamirey Cove Resort opens at 8:00 in the morning and closes at 10:00 in the evening.  The villas at Masamirey Cove Resort are very captivating since those are inspired on tropical architecture for a more local vibe.
The resort gives a unique food experience. Their dishes are all from Pangasinense and Ilocano such as the Alaminos Longanisa, Prime Beef Pigar-Pigar, and Palabok Negra. Junea is a coffee lover. It suits her well since Masamirey serves iced or hot coffees with different types such as Americano, Café Mocha and Iced Latte. The resort also serves wines such as Red Vino Fontana Wine, Jack Daniels and Terra Vega.
Tumblr media
The view at the infinity pool overlooking the ocean is so relaxing and the powdery white sand and crystal clear blue water gives a perfect shot. Their activities are great for bonding such as the Hundred Islands Tour. The Masamirey Cove Resort helps to explore the islands via a boat ride for only 2,500 pesos for a group of five, 3,000 pesos for a group of ten and 3500 pesos for a group of fifteen. The resort also offers a Sual Day Tour where your loved ones can experience a special day tour of the Sual Power Plant, Cabalitian Island and Matico Waterfalls. Junea and her family tried riding the clear kayaks and see different and colorful corals and fishes under the sea. After riding the clear kayaks, try riding the speedboat and the water scooter. The resort also let tourist experience coastline fishing with the fishermen of Masamirey beach to learn their local culture and beliefs. As well as enjoy eating the bounties of the sea of your very fresh catch.
Tumblr media
After doing activities, Junea and her family rests at the sun beds and cabanas by the pool, it is also a perfect view for taking photos. The Masamirey Cove Resort is slowly gaining popularity not only for millennials but for every kind of person since nature is indeed the scenery. “Study nature, love nature, and stay close to nature. It will never fail you.” – Frank Lloyd Wright
Tumblr media
As she stated, it was indeed an unforgettable experience since she is with her family.  Every place is an adventure with your loved ones. Life is short so travel before the time runs out.

Tourist Destination in Ilocos Norte
Tumblr media
The Bangui Windmills operated by the NorthWind Power Development Corporation, nthe Bangui Wind Farm was commissioned by then- governor Ferdinand “Bong-bong” Marcos, Jr.. The Windmills have long been a must- see in the Ilocos Norte region, more than 20 turbines set up along the cross of Bangui Bay. There is no entrance fee to see them and you can also have a horse ride if you get tired walking from one turbine to another a horse ride is P100. Just an hour outside of Laoag city is the Kapurpurawan Rock Formation, which gets its name for the Ilocano term “puraw” which means “white”. The natural wonder fronts Bangui Bay and is the result of thousands of years of particles deposited ashore by sea waves and wind.Open daily from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, the museum once served as the official residence of the Marcos family when Ferdinand E. Marcos was president. The sprawling property has a gorgeous view overlooking manicured lawns and Paoay Lake, and was a a gift from the former First Lady Imelda Marcos to her late husband.Bongbong Marcos’ room is located on the ground floor along with three other rooms and the second master’s bedroom – this is where the late president stayed when he could no longer climb the stairs. On the second floor is the original master’s bedroom and Imee and Irene’s room, too.The Suba Sand Dunes were once made famous as the shooting locations for the 1982 award-winning movie Himala (Miracle) starring Nora Aunor and the 1980 film Panday starring “King of Philippine Movies” Fernando Poe Jr. It’s current claim to fame is that of it being the shooting site for Bagani, a teleserye starring Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil.In fact, the sand dunes offers a group package that includes a “4×4 ride with uphill-down trails, sand dune tour, beach stroll, unlimited sand boarding plus photo session at the Himala sa Buhangin Sculpture Park, several drop-off stations and BAGANI Shooting Site”.As the fourth longest bridge in the Philippines, the Patapat Viaduct snakes along the North Cordillera mountain range. It offers a breathtaking view of the West Philippine Sea and Pasaleng Bay. Along the way, you pass by the Mabugabog Falls, the Kalbario Natural Park and a shipwreck just beneath the waters that dates all the way back to the Japanese occupation. One of the top tourist spots in Ilocos Norte is Kabigan Falls. From the entrance, it’s a 30-minute trek to the 87-foot waterfall. If you don’t want to hike though, you can opt to rent a vehicle to take you to Kabigan. After the hike, you will be rewarded with a refreshing dip and swim. Be warned though, the water is really cold which can prove to be refreshing.Built in 1612, the Laoag Sinking Bell Tower got its name from the fact that the bell tower is literally sinking. Instead of having been built on firm foundation, the structure was built on soft, sandy foundation during the Spanish occupation. Hence, year by year, the bell tower sinks lower and lower into the ground. It was rumored that individuals used to be able to enter horseback, now you’d have to crouch down to pass through the front entrance.First lit in 1892, Cape Bojeador is one of the top tourist sites in Ilocos Norte. The lighthouse is made up of bricks, a bronze cupola and the viewing gallery is surrounded by iron grill works. Established during the Spanish occupation, it continues to light up the northwestern- point of Luzon, welcoming ships from the north and guiding them along the rocky cliffs of Burgos. Cape Bojeador was dubbed a National Historical Landmark in 2004 and then a National Cultural Treasure in 2005.With it’s gothic, oriental and baroque architecture, Paoay Church (aka San Agustin Church) is considered of the oldest and most beautiful churches in the country. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a National Cultural Treasure. With its 24 carved buttresses, the church was able to withstand several natural calamities and continues to stand strong even after 300 years. The Riverside Empanadahan is a local and tourist favorite that sells food products, souvenirs and more. But obviously – the best selling items are the varieties of Empanada and miki. The latter is a thick soup made up of chicken stock and meat. It has flat noodles topped with a boiled egg, chicharon and garlic longganisa. On the other hand, the Batac Empanadas are orange pastries filled with papaya, bean sprouts, longganisa and egg. If you order the “special” Batac Empanadas, you’d notice bites full of chorizo.Bacarra Church is a Roman Catholic church located in the municipality of Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Laoag. The church was founded by the Augustinians, who dedicated it to St. Andrew.   The Bacarra church is famous for its centuries-old, domeless or “beheaded” belfry known as Torre ti Bacarra. The structure stands three stories and 50 metres (160 ft) high.Located in Badoc Ilocos Norte, Juan Luna Shrine is the reconstruction of Juan Luna’s home. It is a 2-storey house that was said to be burned down around 1861 but fortunately enough, the ruins that remained made it possible to be reconstructed and made it into the Shrine that it is now. There are collections and displays all over the house where you’ll get to know not just Juan Luna, but also his brother, Antonio Luna as well. The jewel in the crown of Pagudpud is Saud Beach, with its renowned wonderful fine white sand. Saud Beach has cream-colored sand and cool waters, perfect for swimming and beach bumming in. Have a relaxing day or afternoon just on the beach. The resorts in the area makes sure that the shores are clean, so it is a plus point. There is plenty of room for activities such as volleyball or throwing a Frisbee.Maira-ira beach is a stretch of white sand and crystal clear waters stretching out to the West Philippine Sea. Dubbed as the Blue Lagoon, this is one of the most well known destination in Pagudpud. A number of resorts, luxury and budget, are along the way so tourists can surely enjoy the view and the activities such as swimming and other water sports longer. The water is so clear and you can even get there with the zipline!

My Journey in Ilocos Region
I've read a lot how really beautiful Ilocos is and seeing all those great picture of the old streets and buildings in Vigan. My family and I went on a road trip vacation to Ilocos Region. Me and my family drove all the way from Cavite to Ilocos Region for three days and Two nights. Our Mission was to see the famous places in Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte while experiencing the joy of travelling on the road. Our vacation were simple -see as much tourist destination as we can, eat in local restaurants and enjoy our time together. If you love travelling a lot, don't miss visiting Ilocos because it is one of the most beautiful and historic places in the Philippines. Last summer, we went to Ilocos and it was so amazing. I was excited to see the streets of Vigan and see the famous Bangui Windmills, Paoay Churh, Light house and Malacañang of the North. Ilocos is a region in the Philippines, encompassing the northwestern coast of Luzon island. It's known for it's historic sites, beaches and the well-preserved Spanish colonial city of Vigan. I really love and enjoyed this because the place has preserved the house, road, Churches and buildings that you just went back to the time of the Spanish. The area is well preserved and well cared for the place and just think that even in our modern culture we still have seen how far the heritage houses are and how they have been preserved. We are a group of Twelve persons, hence we decided to avail a tour package. It's better to avail tour packages to lessen the cost specially if you are in a big group. The trip to Ilocos is about Ten to Eleven hours from Cavite, depending on where you meet. I would like to say from January to July, it's fine to visit Ilocos any time of the year. But the months of August to November are usually prone to typhoons and rains. I'd say, always check the weather forecast. One of the best things about travelling is the food. The riverside Empanada is a local and tourist favorite that sells food products, souvenirs and more. But obviously -the best selling items are the varieties of Empanada. It's their specialties. Try their famous bagnet and you'll never forget it. Longganisa is an emblematic Ilocos food. These pork sausage are the star at any ilocano table. Read the full article

LAOAG CITY, Oct 23 (PIA) – After Ilocos Norte welcomed Luzon tourists on Oct. 15,  Ilocos Sur along with other provinces in the Ilocos Region eye reopening their tourism very soon.
Ilocos Sur Governor Ryan Singson announced opening their province to tourists starting Nov. 15.
“Other local government units are observing how Baguio City and the region are doing it, with how the tourist and triaging centers are in place, and in Department of Tourism (DOT) ensuring that accommodation establishments strictly abide with health and safety protocols and with these in place, people will be confident to travel again”, Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said.
More than 30 travel and tour agencies from Baguio City and Region 1 joined the launching of the Ridge and Reef Travel Corridor in Ilocos Norte.
Part of the launching was the conduct of a benchmarking and a tour package simulation among identified tourism destinations in Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur
“Through this benchmarking, the travel and tour agents can understand the full customer journey and properly incorporate travel essentials to maximize value for money and visitor experience satisfaction,” Joseph Emmanuel Ortega, DOT-1 regional director, said.
In the Ridge and Reef Travel Corridor, pre-arranged and controlled tour packages offered to tourists for up to five days will be offered by DOT-accredited travel and tour agencies.
“Soon, hopefully by mid-November, we will be launching a regional visitor management system and online application which will manage and monitor tourist traffic in the provinces, also ensure the implementation and compliance of the health and safety protocols,” Ortega said.
This will also provide quick information on tourist’s attractions, facilities, and services and an online platform for convenient, fast, contactless registration and payment for tourists.
He added, “There will only be one application where you can register can be used wherever you go in the region which will eventually be adopted for registering Locally Stranded Individuals and Returning Overseas Workers.”
During the launching, Sec. Romulo-Puyat also said that Tourist's One Stop Shop (TOSS) will soon be established, complementing a fast and seamless border check and control.
The TOSS will be composed of a shaded drive through kiosk serving as green lanes for tourists to which visitors can proceed with border controls at the comfort of their cars.
Included in the first phase of the Ridge and Reef Travel Corridor are the 12 towns of Ilocos Norte namely Badoc, Currimao, Paoay, Batac, Laoag City, Pasuquin, Burgos, Bangui, Pagudpud, Adams, Sarrat, and Vintar.
The tourist destinations of Bauang, San Juan, and San Gabriel in La Union; Vigan, Bantay, and Caoayan in Ilocos Sur; and Manaoag, Alaminos City, and Bolinao in Pangasinan are also part of the intra-corridor travel. (JCR/JPD/JDS, PIA Ilocos Norte)
