!! ava/avm fandom !!
(2024 edit: as of now, i unfortunately don't have time to make AVOT, nor the skills to make it yet, and the project i originally needed it for is no longer required, so unfortunately i won't be making AVOT as of now, but i still wanted to keep the posts up)
hi hello !! :)
long story short: i have a big school project that i need done completely by march of next year, so im making a "educational" parody/inspired video of the "animation vs" series for it !!
its going to be "Animation Vs Oregon Trail", or AVOT for short, and i plan on keeping it still technically educational, but its going to still be enjoyable to watch and (hopefully) similar to a actual alan becker video
it wont be done until sometime next year, presumably march 2024, due to working on this alongside school, (and this entire thing is done from scratch by just me), but its going to be roughly 5 minutes long and im going to try to replicate the style of alan becker's animations in it the best i can !! i only started learning animation over the summer so i cant guarantee itll be the best thing in the world as theres a ton of things i plan on doing in the video that ive never done before animation-wise, but i do still hope it keeps the charm and silliness of alan's animations :)
i have a ton of "concept art"/doodles for it alongside a storyboard thats a work-in-progress so if anyones interested in me posting more about this as i work on it i will gladly do so !!
also my askbox is open so if anyone wants to ask or suggest anything relating to avot ill try my best to respond !! :)

I'm sad that this moment doesn't fit well anymore in my story so here, you can see it:
“It was you, I swear. Why on Avot would it be anyone else?”
“It wasn’t me! If anyone’s untrustworthy, it’s Lily!”
“Yeah yeah, blame the newbie when SHE WAS SLEEPING THE ENTIRE TIME!”
Lily woke with a start, to the sounds of Steph and his twin, Sophie, arguing about something.
“Wassup…” She said, sleepily.
“Someone stole our gang’s money and vanished with it!” Sophie claimed, poking Steph in the chest.
“Oh no!” Lily remarked.
“Search me if you’re gonna make outrageous claims like that. I would never betray Reuben or our gang, not for the world, not for survival. I’d rather die than cause our gang harm.” Steph said, seriously, but with a dreamy look in his eye.
“Why do you think Steph stole it?” Lily asked.
“‘Cause I saw ‘im lurking ‘round Reuben’s room where the money is kept all week last week.”
Steph went bright red. “You’re gonna pull that one, in front of this kid? I say we wake up Reuben and the whole gang and search everyone.”
Hunter peeked around the corner and giggled.
“You’d like that, Steph, wouldn’t you? To be searched by Reuben.” Hunter said.
Steph went even redder. Sophie’s eyes went wide with realisation, then playfully punched her twin’s arm. Lily was just more confused.
“Sorry bro. If I’d known that I’d never blame you. You’ve got to tell him though. I mean, I ship it.” Sophie said, then turned to Lily. “Go back to sleep. We usually don’t do anything until like noonish because we like to sleep in.”

In re: pickuah nefesh and omega heats. My wife LOVES to remind me that it’s a mitzvah to fuck on shabbos, so maybe in an a/b/o world the mitzvah of satisfying a heat overrides fasting.

You asking me this on Shabbat and me answering this on Shabbat says a lot about us, huh 😅
I suppose, as others have noted, that the line is drawn when you consider whether satisfying or not satisfying a heat/rut will have an actually detrimental effect on a person. Will they just be uncomfortable? Will they get sick or possibly die?
Just thinking about how shomer negiah would work with various dynamics makes my head hurt.

animation vs oregon trail progress + doodle dump !! (AVOT Update #1)
(2024 edit: as of now, i unfortunately don't have time to make AVOT, nor the skills to make it yet, and the project i originally needed it for is no longer required, so unfortunately i won't be making AVOT as of now, but i still wanted to keep the posts up)
this is a 3 second clip from september, but i plan on reworking it to make it more expressive, less choppy, and fix the proportions, but its kind of an idea of how the video will turn out !!
edit: the quality got killed i promise its better quality in the actual thing 😔😔
+ a bunch of doodles/"concept art" & rambles under the cut :)
a good chunk of these are from the end of august until now, so dont mind the slight changes in style although its just doodles !!
side note from two of the doodles: in AVOT, i do have to include "deaths" its the oregon trail, but since they're in the oregon trail game, its more like they go from existing to "spectating", but they have no effect or anything on the story or the alive sticks, and if time allows i definitely wanna have the little ghost versions of them animated and reacting to the events and stuff :)
side side note: i know in one screenshot the computer date and timestamp say september, but for the video im probably going to change it to sometime in march 2024 since i know thats when ill be done with it
also im trying to get the beginning of AVOT hopefully animated soon (right before they enter the game) so i can hopefully submit it for the avg 1 million subscribers special and maybee alan can react to it if it gets chosen for the video & if i finish in time ?? 🤞🤞 but in the meantime i'll probably showcase my progress here on this silly little project :)

Today’s AVOT hot take
Okay so in AVOT I gave Jimmy a condition called “Deep Sea Asthma” so basically he can’t breathe in shallow water or on land. The Codfather head is enchanted with a sort of reverse water breathing enchant created by Lizzie to make it so that he can breathe. Which is why he was so frantic about getting it back.
Also, while he was being tested in the deep sea dwelling (bear in mind this is like a thousand years in the past), one of the tests was racing Lizzie to see who could collect the most pearls in a short amount of time (Deep Sea Asthma causes breathlessness when swimming quickly). Lizzie collects all the pearls they find and a blue shell Jimmy gave her previously and makes a necklace out of them. When she goes on land and loses her memories, she never takes it off. It feels too important. There’s too much love there. And when she sees this new Swamp King, Cod Head and all, she can’t help but direct that lost love towards him.

This extract I'm pretty happy with. For now.
Steven had always loved that tall woman with those smiling emerald eyes. So sophisticated, so sweet, so genuine. He loved her as soon as he met her, in that little café-bookshop of hers. The rest of his life, well, he couldn't remember that. That didn't matter. Only she mattered.
The rest of his life was a haze. Sometimes it was excruciating. That didn't matter. Only she mattered.
It had been, what? Weeks? Months? Years? Since he last saw her. That didn't matter. He was patient. He would wait for her. When she comes, he can think again, move again, breathe again. She is his life force. Does she know that? He'd better not tell her, he didn't want to worry her.
He loved Cupcake. He adored her. He despised the fact he couldn't ever be able to show his affections for her. He'd never be able to surprise her, not when the world shifted away in her absence.
He awoke again, some footsteps echoing on those tiles alerting him to her presence. His subconscious flicked open his eyes, and then he became aware once more. He could not say a word, for his mouth was sewn shut, he could not raise his arms in a welcoming gesture, for they were shackled down, but that didn't matter. Only she mattered.
There was someone else there with her. Grasping her wrist so firmly. Was she okay? He had to protect her. How? He was powerless. Totally and utterly powerless. It never mattered before.
But then she was smiling. She was laughing at the stranger's efforts to intimidate her. Did she love them?
Jealousy bubbled over, searing Steven with pure, unfiltered anger. He tried to scream, but his vocal chords were slashed to pieces, he tried to punch, but he was bound down to that cold table. The stranger noticed. Approached him. Those cold, grey, ever-analysing eyes were the last thing Steven saw, as the tubes were wrenched from his body, and he died slowly, in agony.
But it didn't matter. Only she mattered.

Maybe it is because of his known kindness and openness…or maybe it’s just because I was feeling a little silly. Either way, now it’s an image that exists.
The text says “if not now, when?” from his famous teaching in Pirkei Avot: “If I am not for myself, who is for me? But if I am for my own self [only], what am I? And if not now, when?”
For me, it’s a movement. It means grounding, balance, and action. It’s a way to address both the joys and pitfalls that come into your life. It’s a way to expect them and move through them.
It’s more than a saying, it’s a way to live.
