Το πιο ενδιαφέρον τμήμα του δάσους συναντάς στις ακτές του Αγίου Νικολάου, την Αγία Μαρίνα, τον Κόρακα και στη Σπίθα του Δήμου Βοιών. Στον Κόρακα διατηρείται και ο ψηλότερος κορμός του δάσους, μήκους δύο μέτρων, που οι ντόπιοι αποκαλούν «άνθρωπο». Από το εκκλησάκι της Αγίας Μαρίνας ξεκινά το σηματοδοτημένο μονοπάτι απΆ όπου διασχίζεις εύκολα τη διαδρομή. Ένα σύγχρονο Γεωπάρκο, με περιπατητικές διαδρομές και ενημερωτικό υλικό δημιουργείται από το Δήμο Βοιών γύρω από το απολιθωμένο δάσος στην περιοχή του Αγίου Νικολάου. Όλα τα απολιθωμένα δάση θεωρούνται διεθνώς διατηρημένα μνημεία της φύσης και χρήζουν ανυπολόγιστης επιστημονικής αξίας. Ένα πολύτιμο γεωλογικό μουσείο, θαύμα της λακωνικής γης, συναντάτε σήμερα σε μεγάλη έκταση της παραλίας του Αγίου Νικολάου Νεαπόλεως. Απολιθώματα κορμών, ηλικίας 2-3 εκατομμυρίων ετών, με το σπάνιο για τα παγκόσμια δεδομένα φαινόμενο των απολιθωμένων ριζών αποκαλύφθηκε δίπλα ακριβώς από τη θάλασσα. Κορμοί από φοίνικες, κωνοφόρα αλλά και πλατύφυλλα, διαμέτρου από μισό έως ένα μέτρο, απολιθώθηκαν λόγω διάφορων φυσικών φαινομένων και στη συνέχεια ασβεστοποιήθηκαν από την άνοδο της θάλασσας. Τα ευρήματα είναι μοναδικά στην Ευρώπη και χρήζουν ανεκτίμητης επιστημονικής αξίας. Η δημιουργία των απολιθωμένων κορμών ακολούθησε τη διαδικασία της κύριας απολίθωσης, δηλαδή της αντικατάστασης της οργανικής ύλης μόριο προς μόριο από διαλύματα πλούσια σε ασβέστιο και πυρίτιο, διατηρώντας σε πολύ καλή κατάσταση τα μορφολογικά γνωρίσματα των δέντρων. Τα ευρήματα εκτείνονται σε μια τεράστια παράκτια έκταση που ξεκινάει από την Αγία Μαρίνα στον Καβομαλιά και φτάνει στον Κάμπο Βοιών και την Ελαφόνησο. Το πιο ενδιαφέρον τμήμα του δάσους θα συναντήσεις στις τρεις βραχώδεις παραλίες της Αγίας Μαρίνας, ανατολικά του Κόρακα και στη Σπίθα του Αγίου Νικολάου. Στον Κόρακα θα συναντήσεις και τον «άνθρωπο» κατά τους ντόπιους, τον ψηλότερο κορμό του δάσους, μήκους δύο μέτρων. Τόσο στην ακτή όσο και στου γύρω αγρούς πλήθος από σπάνια θαλάσσια απολιθώματα, αστερίες, σαλιγκάρια, κοχύλια, καβούρια, μύδια και άλλα όστρακα εντυπωσιάζουν τον επισκέπτη. Το δάσος διασχίζεις πανεύκολα ξεκινώντας από το μονοπάτι που περνάει αριστερά από το εκκλησάκι της Αγίας Μαρίνας. Εδώ θα σε οδηγήσει χωματόδρομος που ξεκινά από το χωριό του Αγίου Νικολάου. Γύρω από το απολιθωμένο δάσος ο Δήμος Βοιών δημιουργεί ένα σύγχρονο Γεωπάρκο, με περιπατητικές διαδρομές και ενημερωτικό υλικό. Πρόσβαση Το απολιθωμένο δάσος βρίσκεται μερικά χιλιόμετρα μετά το χωριό Άγιος Νικόλαος και εκτείνεται στις παράκτιες τοποθεσίες Αγία Μαρίνα, Κόρακας και Σπίθα. Η πρόσβαση γίνεται μέσω ενός βατού χωματόδρομου μήκους 2 χιλιομέτρων.

Tras años de lucha y polémica entre las dos, los resultados de Nancy dejaron terminar que el estado hipnótico era un fenómeno de sugestión a través de el que se podía alentar al sujeto que desarrollase sus facultades y generara fenómenos psíquicos.

En mil ochocientos cuarenta y siete la familia Fox entró a vivir en el inmueble y pronto las hijas –dos jóvenes adolescentes, Kate y Margaret Fox– aseveraron sostener comunicación con un supuesto espíritu mediante un sistema de golpes que el espectro del fallecido efectuaba en los muebles y las paredes de la casa, conforme con un abecedario improvisado. Era el nacimiento del espiritismo.

La difusión de ese supuesto contacto con el planeta de los fallecidos fue inmediata. Por el viejo continente se descubrieron miles y miles de ocultistas que organizaban sesiones, logrando que el nuevo movimiento filosófico-religioso evolucionase velozmente, como el sistema de contacto con las entidades. Ante toda esta avalancha de sucesos, la ciencia no podía continuar imperturbable y pronto se elevaron voces que advertían del conocido fraude que muchas veces había sido detectado. No obstante resultaba indispensable distinguir si se generaban o bien no estados de autotrance y genuinos fenómenos paranormales a lo largo de las sesiones. De esta forma fue como en mil ochocientos sesenta y nueve la Sociedad Dialéctica de la ciudad de Londres, encabezada por el físico John Lubbock, nombró a un comité integrado por 33 miembros con el objetivo de estudiar a fondo y desenmascarar los fraudes que se generaban en las sesiones espiritistas. H. Myers (mil ochocientos cuarenta y tres-mil novecientos uno) –que estudió el papel del inconsciente en los fenómenos psíquicos y a él se le deben términos como telepatía, subliminal, etcétera, el catedrático de física y Rector de la Universidad de Birminghan Sir Oliver Lodge (mil ochocientos cincuenta y uno-mil novecientos cuarenta) –que estudió a los más esenciales ocultistas de su temporada como Eusapia Palladino, Eleonore Piper… confirmando la realidad de los fenómenos–, y en especial Sir William Barret (mil ochocientos cuarenta y cinco-mil novecientos veintiseis), catedrático de física en la Royal College of Science de Dublín (Irlanda) –quien efectuó valiosos estudios sobre telepatía, clarividencia, precognición y visiones en el instante de la muerte–.

Para efectuar las investigaciones de una forma organizado, con espíritu crítico y científico, se crearon 6 comités encargados cada uno de ellos de ellos de una especialidad muy definida. Estas eran: El estudio de la naturaleza y el alcance de cualquier repercusión que pudiese ejercer una psique sobre otra, con independencia del modo de percepción.

El estudio del hipnotismo y de las formas de los llamados “trances mesméricos”, con su insensibilidad al dolor, la clarividencia y otros fenómenos asociados.

Una revisión crítica de las investigaciones de Reichenbach con genuinas personas “sensitivas”, y cuestionar si semejantes personas tienen algún poder de percepción alén de una sensibilidad exaltada por los órganos sensoriales conocidos.

Una investigación esmerada de ciertos casos apoyados en testimonios fiables relativos a apariciones en el instante de la muerte –o en otras circunstancias–, o bien relativos a casas que se afirman plagadas.

Pesquisar en los variados fenómenos físicos generalmente llamados espiritistas; con un intento de descubrir sus causas y sus leyes generales.

La colección y comprobación de materiales existentes que mantienen la historia de estos temas.

En mil ochocientos ochenta y cuatro, y siguiendo la estela de la SPR londinense, William James, el notable pensador y sicólogo de la Universidad de Harvard, creó en la ciudad de Boston la ASPR –American Society for Psychical Resarch o bien “Sociedad para la Investigación Psíquica Americana”– con el incalculable apoyo de Sir William Barret. Las dos sociedades hermanadas realizaron multitud de ensayos y también investigaciones paranormales y psíquicas, llegando a recoger una enorme documentación científica muy valiosa sobre telepatía, sugestión, hipnosis, clarividencia, escritura automática… entre otros muchos fenómenos.
