I find it fascinating how in October/November people were posting about how Gaza is an open air prison/ghetto/concentration camp whatever, but now that it’s been bombed to shit and is actually bad to live in they’re like 🥺 look at how beautiful and wonderful it used to be to live in Gaza 🥺 reposting Gazan lifestyle videos from before the war.
Like… bro
yeah for an open air prison it sure has amazing 5star hotels, restaurants, luxury neighborhoods and cars. if these are the new standards for what a concentration camp is the shalomies from auchwitz would be jealous were they still alive!

i rewatched schindler's list last night (extremely scattered random thoughts)
* the main motif that jumped out to me this time was that of paperwork
which makes sense, right. the list. in the title. is in fact a piece of paperwork
but (1) the last time i watched this i was like 15 and a dummy, and (2) i guess paperwork's been on the brain lately ever since i saw brandon taylor calling for a comeback of the "paperwork movie" and i was like so true bestie
the paperwork thing isn't the movie's primary preoccupation. it wasn't trying to make a specific statement about The Inhumanity Of Machines And Bureaucracy as far as i could tell (even though that'd be an easy angle for something like this to take), but even so. the endless lines with some harried typist at the end of it, the shots of ppl checking every coat pocket for their work papers, Itzhak's goofy-ass typing technique as he's making that list of names, the paperwork error that sends the train of women not to his factory but to Auchwitz, etc...
but there's a missing middle in there, right, with some honest examination of these typewriters and databases and keyboards and emails and files as part of the air we breathe now. (i think the automated-job-assignment-system in Le Guin's The Dispossessed and the City of Mind in Le Guin's Always Coming Home are both her kind-of-inchoate-but-deeply-felt AHHHHH reactions to bureaucratization and the internet, respectively—a lot of scifi from that era reads like that, nervous but not really sure what to say yet.) like, Schindler's List was not wanting to examine that angle overmuch, but because it's not so front-and-center preoccupied with the papers in-and-of-themselves it probably comes away with stronger imagery/riffing on the idea than it would have otherwise
when taylor was talking about paperwork movies he was talking about stuff like legal thrillers, romcoms, stuff like Air, and so on. things where bureaucratic competence is the way to win. and there's no shortage of midcentury stuff where The Bureaucratization Is The Horror, the act of putting anything on a paper or in a database is the itself the thing to be feared
but it'd be interesting to see a film that did take that front-and-center. (probably one exists! i don't watch very many movies.) i guess the closest thing to what i'm thinking of is Red Plenty, which is a novel about a lot of things, but one of those threads is definitely Egghead Soviet Math Nerds Doing Paperwork, & yeah it's so so so good. I Am Once Again Asking You To Read Red Plenty
* the other new thing that jumped out at me, this time around, was just how bad at business Schindler was lol. this went over my head as a kid, because the guy is always dressed fantastic and slots so easily into the Charming Business Magnate Archetype, and also because as a kid i hadn't spent enough time around Charming Business Magnates to realize how often they are full of shit... but yeah, the movie makes it super clear upfront that this is essentially a Wall Street Bets guy who has identified exactly one weird arbitrage opportunity ("hire slave labor") and is good at calling in favors from the other nazis he parties with and that's it. utterly unsurprising he failed at every single other business he ever tried. reading the details of Actual Oskar Schindler's life makes him seem both better and worse than how he's portrayed in the film, and it would've been really interesting to see all those angles explored, even if i get why Speilberg opted to sand down those edges and i'll concede he was probably right to do so for the thing he wanted to make
anyway yeah. that's a film

Something in the Peaky Blinders community that has caught mine and a few others’ eyes, in the frequent and so relaxed use of the word “Gypsy” when not in book context.
As someone part of the Rroma community, having once lived in Romania, moving from country to country until we settled in England in 2008, I think it’s important to make it known to people who may not be aware before it becomes a widespread issue.
The word Gypsy has been used since the beginning of our communities in the North of India, where majority of us originated. The word has been used to enslave the Rroma community until the late 1800’s, it was used during the Holocaust to justify the slaughter and eradication the Rroma community endured and wipe out our community.
Between 200,000-500,000 (the records unknown due to the disregard of Rroma life) Roma and Sinti people were murdered by Nazi’s in the 2nd World War. Roma and Sinti people were sent to ghettos, Auchwitz, Dachau and Brikenau, which has a specific “Gypsy Camp”, made specifically for the Roma and Sinti communities.
Romani is not Romany, Romany is not Sinti. Rroma is an Indo-Aryan ethnic group that has a closed language. We wish that for the purpose of fanfiction, you do not attempt to learn that language as it is closed. The language has saved the lives of millions of Rroma through the years - being a symbol of our strength and integrity. If something were to happen to our community again, we would rely on our language to keep us safe once again.
Having Romani, Romany, Sinti or any other Rroma connection does NOT make you ethnically Rroma. Having Great-great grandparent connections to Rroma does not make you Rroma, for you will not be persecuted for living in a Vardo, nor will you be persecuted for the label on your birth certificate.
We want you to celebrate our culture, when you are invited. We want you to celebrate our dished and clothing, when you are invited. If you have a Rroma friend, you will more than likely understand a few basic words of our language.
In fan-fiction, it is expected to see the word Gypsy be used sparsely, giving context to the time period and the lack of regard for our community, despite the hardships. However, we ask you do not use it in reference to us or our people, fiction or not. We ask that when you talk about the Shelby’s as people, you refer to them as Romani, not as Gypsy.
We ask that you do not call yourself Gypsy in your usernames, for that is disregard to our culture and our people. We ask that you do not refer to yourself as a Gypsy in context of you like a person of Rroma descent.
We ask so little, but these changes can change the future of so many Rroma people. It can change the future of my grand-children’s lives, my children’s lives. If we understand now why Rroma are important, why we aren’t thieves, job stealers and lazy, we’ll make a change to the future and what may happen next.
Rroma has had so little rest, and we are still in a constant battle with the engrained systems that disallow us to do certain activities and events due to our heritage.
As authors on this app, we ask YOU to be the first to make that change.
Of course, any reblogs etc are appreciated, or if you choose to illiterate this piece into something else to spread to your friends on this app, we will also be entirely grateful. If the message is spread, maybe the next generation of will not have to be told the message at all.
All my blessings to anyone who has read this. Nais nais tuke <3

about art trades!
I will do art trades with (almost) anyone. [quick how it works, in case you don't know: one of us asks the other about the trade and we agree to do it. then we each draw a character(s) of the other's choice. this doesn't have to be anything fancy; it can just be a little doodle. then we post the art and @ each other on the post. sorry if I'm not explaining it well ;-;] I mostly like doing Wordgirl- or FNaF-related trades since I'm familiar with the characters, but anything else on my fandom hyperfixation list works ;p
also I really like when people comment on + reblog my posts, it shows me you're interested and motivates me to create more content we both like ;D

Joseph Beuys Wire Tap, 1998
(Thegn Penrose, Digital, 2023)
this is a thing I made recently relating to Joseph Beuys, Shamanism, Alchemy, and some pseudo-spiritual ideas I have about the internet and its origins in telecom in the 1990s. I might make more related to this, but who knows. since I had a deadline for the project it isn't all I wanted it to be, but it allowed me to sperg out about Joseph Beuys to people in my class that didn't care, so that's alright. I'm especially interested in the belief that Terrence Mckenna had in technological singularity and the internet before he died. McKenna believed that a technological singularity would provide the redemption of the spirit through matter prophesied in the hermetic tradition. This belief seems very out of place now, but in the 1990s it was considered perfectly logical.
formally it draws heavily on La Jetee (you absolutely have to check it out if you haven't yet, it's only 30 minutes and available on youtube), and the work of janet cardiff. I'll probably make a post about her some day, because she's a really interesting artist. she mostly makes installations, but they focus a lot on sound and physical spaces, so I was thinking of her a lot when mixing the audio. her work is very creepy and interesting, but honestly, it can only be fully experienced in person.
all that you really need to know is that the text-to-speech program in this video is recounting Joseph Beuys' story of crashing in Crimea during World War II. he had been drafted into the Luftwaffe and ended up crashing, after which, according to him, he was taken in by nomadic Tatars, who nursed him back to life using animal fat and sheets of felt. this story is probably not literally true and was either made up as part of his self-myth or hallucinated. later, after the war was over he became an artist, and like a lot of his german contemporaries was consumed by guilt and an overriding postmodern fear that whatever trauma they had inflicted upon humanity would stifle all meaning in human life. he and other artists like Anselm Kiefer, (who, not at all coincidentally was also interested in alchemy) were terrified of the urge to forget and suppress the memory of the holocaust and believed that without proper healing no actual progress could be achieved.
he is known for his especially pessimistic work in the 1950s and 60s that focused on trauma, the dissolution of humans as living beings and subjects, and a fixation on Auchwitz. following this he leaned more into his belief in alchemy and felt that through his ritualistic practices, much like the tatars healed him, he could heal the large scale trauma in the world around him. his attitude at this time was very sincere and earnest, and was accompanied by a strong involvement in the West German anti-war and anti-nuclear movements. some people would see his early involvement with the Green Party, for instance, as out of character or wacky, but it actually fits beautifully within his belief that great art would accompany meaningful material change in the world.
anyway, I'm rambling. I will not get into my ideas about the early internet yet. some day.

« Dios es imposible, innecesario, indeseable y no hay ninguna evidencia de su existencia. El Dios de las religiones, omnipotente y de bondad infinita no puede existir. La existencia del mal implica una contradicción entre estas propiedades. Si existen niños que sufren por cáncer terminal no puede existir Dios. Existe Auchwitz, no existe Dios; dice Primo Levi […] Dios es indeseable por las bestialidades hechas en su nombre.»

Tw Antisemitism Tw White Supremacy Tw Homophobia
Ohhh boy Wilbur Soot.
So to start this off I am not Jewish, and I'm not a person of color. I'm just writing my own thoughts, do not take this for anything as I am not a member of the affected groups. I am also not linking the thread as it was made by a member of leaktwt (a subtwt dedicated to digging up personal info of content creators).
(in case you don't know what's going on a thread on Twitter was posted exposing a lot of antisemitic, white supremacy, and homophobic things that Wilbur and his friend's from his group channel Soothouse had engaged with when he was 19/20. So 2016ish)
Sorry if this is messy. I'm writing this at 4:45am, running on 30 mins of sleep, on my phone, and I have ADHD.
I think the thing that confuses me the most is why people brought it up. Wilbur has been very transparent with us that he was a shitty person years ago. He never went into specifics, I can't say I blame him now knowing the actual content, but he has been extremely transparent. Now I can't say the same for the rest of Soothouse given I don't watch them but I know Wilbur has been transparent.
I'm not defending him! Not even close, this shit is disgusting and literally awful, and Wilbur does need to talk about it and properly apologize.
But all this does is expose his audience, especially people effected by the rhetoric Wilbur was engaging with. Something he has stated time and time again he no longer engages with, and that he's extremely embarrassed he engaged with. To the type of person he USED to be.
That's going to be in their minds everytime they watch a stream, video, listen to his music, see him on someone else's stream, or even just see his name.
This happened to me with a (former) content creator I watched. He was deplatformed but every time I see his first name I associate it with that person. I can't even watch his friends (all good people and I wish the best for them) anymore because of that association.
So even though he's clearly changed, those people are going to always have what he said/did/promoted 6 to 7 years ago in the back of their minds. And due to that they may stop watching him, which they are entirely entitled to do so, again I'm not a member of the group effected.
And the people who dug up the information are Stranger Things stans which has its own antisemitic problem (the best word I could think of sorry), so pot calling the kettle black much? As well as literally going through Steam's code to find this information.
And it was 2016. They were young white men in Britain during the height of neo-nazism and fascism humor and groups on the internet. Particularly in predominately white-cishet-male gaming environments. I myself am found guilty of finding a few of the "jokes" during that time funny (I was 13 growing up in the conservative Midwest. And do not reflect how I feel now.) And while this isn't an excuse for that, it was the humor for that group at the time.
Again, I'm not defending Wilbur at all. And I definitely don't want to speak over Jewish people or people of color. I'm just saying something that may help to quell the sense of immediate panic people may be going through. As well as bringing up some points I'm too scared to post on Twitter.
Jewish people and people of color feel free to add anything you'd like to add! I'm not trying to take away from what you guys need to say! And I'm definitely not trying to tell you how to feel or anything of that sort.
Edit: Would also like to say he wasn't like actively promoting anything. He was making incredibly antisemitic "jokes", and interacting with sootJacks when he had the f slur in his username.
As far for the "jokes" we have proof of him naming a factory Auchwitz in Factorio which is a factory building game, making a swastika in ultimate chicken horse, and interacting with people who had pepe (yes the frog, it used to be a nazi dogwhistle. And I'm not sure if it still is) pfps.

Y’all so last year my ELA (english language arts) teacher (the GOAT of all teachers i’ve ever had) had us read the book The boy in the striped pyjamas and so I basically forgot about it until today when one of the boys in my class said “RIP Shmuel.” (The book took place during WWII and Shmuel was on of the Jews in Auchwitz and it was about a German boy named Bruno and Shmuel becoming friends and eventually they die in the end but it’s a really sweet book that is also really realistic) I am kind of ashamed to say I laughed

I'm trying to get characters down for people red will meet. Its all pretty vague at the moment.
In the far future there are the collony of mars. Going back a bit, there are the people who fight the zombie appolopyce, and before that ailen invasion.
She has crews in all of these.
Mars gives her insanly good hospital care, innoculating her against disease, treating brain damage, near beheading damage, anything (and brought the ghost she was talking too back from the dead [she's not sure how they pulled that one]). Also PT, and any learning she needs. For them she is an elite agent, that they train in what they need.
Now the zombie crew and the ailens are very diffrent. Rather then show a degrading human enviorment in the zombie parts, I want to show humanity being unified. Communication, coporation, group skills are strong here. In contrast the ailen crew is the failing of the above enviorment, with corruption, Parinoia and fear being the things that are bringing society as a whole down.
Of course there is going to be people she reluctantly works with too. People who keep her there with threats or callousness.
(If you don't agree, I'll shoot you, and we will see what you think after you've recovered next time.)
And a betrayal that messes her up pretty badly. Yah. What a way to get trust issues. Learning someone you trusted was a horribly bad judgement on your part , by discovering her torture basement after years of feeling safe at her house. And now that you know, you can see it first hand, and learn that not only does this person who is good at getting you out of hospitals is not only a serial murder, but is also turned on by seeing other people in pain. And you just became too victim, as she knows messing up with you means she can try again later.
And latter means she got you out of the hospital and into her house while you were recovering from surgery or something. And so the cycle repeats, until something breaks. I'm thinking of this crazy in modern day.
-yah that's pretty dark. It started with the statistic of being killed by people you know 80% of the time, Then it met Paul Bernado, and Carla Homolka. Well, not being a rapist, or drugging (In this instance.) but being friends with a psychopath. One who's good enough at omitting details, and presenting things, that it's hard to catch the lie.  One thing that stuck in my head, was the cement blocks. Also terrifying psychopath behavior. Yah rather than being serial rapists and murderers, this one has sexual Sadism disorder, in addition to psychopathy.

Yah, I'm going to need to research this more, but it will probably involve mutilation, verbal abuse, trophies, being buried alive, and Red knowing she's into it. Umm, let's move on.
There's also going to be hollocoust. At first, she does have people who have her a place to hide, along with Jews. After everyone's hair was shaved (lice) and they were caught, she was taken to Auchwitz with them. Fun times…

Good evening, everyone. Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27th, 1945, Russian troops would liberate the Auchwitz Concentration Camp. With that, I have a very unpleasant Centennial Anniversary to discuss. But, it must be remembered so that it can never be repeated. This predated the Liberation of Auschwitz 22 Years To The Day. I also apologize for the cryptic title card because, sadly, Facebook and Instagram, along with many other social media platforms, have arbitrary censorship settings to remove or flag anything they don't like. They do this in the name of "protecting" people. It is a twist of bitter irony, as it mirrors the regimes and political views that they claim to stand up against. With that, those of us who run History pages have to cryptically fly under the radar and circumnavigate the censor bots. So, on that note, today is a very grim day, and it was a key part of the domino chain that brought the world to Armageddon by the late 1930's. 100 Years Ago Today, in Munich Germany, a goofey, angry, little egotistical nimrod with a knack for public speaking and a funny little black mustache (cough cough) holds his VERY FIRST "rally" (cough cough) He is joined by his "party" members, a raging group of violent, homicidal, psychopaths (cough cough) 6,000 of these creeps show up, the early vanguard of millions of men and women who will follow. In a few short years, these bastards will set the entire world on fire. I'm not going to lie, just typing this story out, truncated as is, was profoundly unsettling.. as it should be. Watching the date get closer each day for this post left a growing pit in my stomach. We share it here tonight in remembrance of their victims, and of the brave men and women who rose to the challenge, fighting and dying across the globe to put them out of business - and in the ground. I apologize that we have to duck the censors, but I hope that I've made it clear enough as to the context of this post. If not, I deeply apologize, and please DM me. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn8l3s9N0KB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
