i keep thinking about, "she's fine, but she's not who we met," and how that so simply encapsulates what heartbreak or grief or trauma do to us. maybe we can make it through, we learn to survive, we're resilient, but we're not who we once were. i'd like to be my old self again, but i'm still trying to find it. god rest my soul, i miss who i used to be. you fracture a little when you've lost some of that sweetness and innocent naivete. there's a shift that can't be restored to what it was, no matter how much you wish it could. give me back my girlhood. it was mine first. but all you can do is honor her memory. *i* was rare. i was there.
