Inktober 2023 - Prompt 25: Dangerous
Tumblr media
"His name’s Malcolm Ware, but most just know him as Mal. He may be tough as nails, but he’s not the one you want roaming around in your computer.”
Because October marks Cybersecurity Awareness Month, I decided to use today’s prompt, “Dangerous,” to spread awareness of the topic. Lately, I’ve been into The Harry Gold Show, an art-related Youtube channel that had the perfect character for this. This is Malcolm “Mal” Ware, a character who appeared in a segment of Harry’s video dedicated to sponsoring AtlasVPN, an up-and-coming private network service. With the clever name in mind, Malcolm Ware was perfect for this prompt… though not something I’d want on my computer, of course. 😅
Enjoy! 😊💜

hiiii sorry to bother but i really like your gifs so i thought you'd be the best person to ask, you can totally ignore me if this is annoying. i've been trying to learn to make gifs and i've only been downloading yt vids so far but i wanted to try torrenting. i don't wanna pay for a vpn and idk any free ones that work for torrenting. idk if you have any experience with all that but if you do i just wanted to ask if you think it's 100% necessary to have a vpn or if it's fine without one? tysm <3
Hi :) No need to apologize, you're not bothering me at all!
I would recommend to use a vpn, but you have to keep in mind that downloading usually takes more time with one. I'm probably just overthinking this and i don't think it's 100% necessary. Don't worry, you will be able to find a lot of offers for free vpn. I have AtlasVPN and Windscribe and i didn't pay for them. I think they're free at first but your data will not be unlimited. You can also direct download instead of torrenting if you prefer, i can give you some links in private.
If you have other questions, you can always ask me! good luck, giffing is hard but really fun

#Article: Millions of Brits risk online privacy by not reading cookies or Terms and Conditions. A study conducted by #Avast shows that: 36% rarely, or never, read Ts and Cs 26% don’t have the time to read privacy policy 29% are confused by cookie policies 69% worry about their online privacy. #QwantCom https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/science-technology/1594860/digital-cookies-terms-conditions-online-privacy-risk & on #Twitter #X https://x.com/QwantCom/status/1514971154594902017
#ArticleSummary: "Millions of Brits are putting their online privacy at risk by not reading cookies and terms and conditions, according to a poll of 2,000 UK adults. The study found that 36% of respondents rarely or never read terms and conditions online before accepting them, and 38% spend 30 seconds or less scanning through them.85% have accepted cookies on websites without reading the policies, and 62% will accept them without knowing what they are agreeing to. Additionally, 50% of adults are fed up with being asked to accept cookies, and 75% believe internet users need to be better educated on cookie policies. The research was commissioned by Avast, which has partnered with Prue Leith to create an educational video about digital cookies. Prue Leith has also released a limited edition run of her cookies that come with tips on how to navigate digital cookies."
By #www.smukher2.eu #www.smukher2.com #www.smukher2.co.uk #www.smukher2.org #www.smukher2.net #smukher2 to #Everyone #QwantCom #Avast: The importance of privacy and security cannot be overstated. Its nice to see that awareness about this is increasing. Here are some strategies I use for #privacy #security #PrivacyMatters #BigTech #BiggerTech #BetterTech #SaferTech #IvyLeague #NIH #EMBL (think of it like a consortium of privacy focused players, academia biopharma biotech pharma and the works, but should be carefully selected using something like 'rank and sack' #RansackAI to avoid ashole woke lobby unfair liar scum like my former bosses, namely Jenny Hsieh UTSA/UTSW, Brent Fogel UCLA and Donald Fox Unversity of Houston):
1)accept only necessary cookies: Accepting only necessary cookies is a good practice to protect your privacy and limit tracking of your online activities. By adjusting your browser settings to only allow essential cookies, you can prevent unnecessary data collection by websites. Go to Browser Settings > Privacy and Security. Also check under, Browser > Tools 2)clear cookies/data browser settings: Clearing cookies and browsing data regularly is important to maintain your online privacy. By periodically clearing your browser history, cookies, and cache, you can remove stored information that could potentially be used to track your online behavior. Go to Browser Settings > Privacy and Security. Also check under, Browser > Tools 3)use browsers #opera #vivaldibrowser #firefox #Waterfoxproject #brave #torproject etc & search engines #QwantCom #startpage #DuckDuckGo #swisscows_ch #ecosia: Using privacy-focused browsers such as Opera, Vivaldi, Firefox, Waterfox, Brave, and Tor can enhance your online security. These browsers offer features like built-in ad blockers, tracking prevention, and enhanced privacy settings to help protect your data. When it comes to search engines, options like Qwant, Startpage, DuckDuckGo, Swisscows, and Ecosia prioritize user privacy by not tracking or storing your search queries. Also, try using 'reader mode' its a small button at the top for most of these browsers which removes a lot of clutter on the webpage and minimizes chances of one clicking on something unintentionally.
4)use vpn &/or proxy #ProtonVPN #surfshark #expressvpn #AtlasVPN #Avira #Bitdefender #Avast #TrendMicro: Utilizing a VPN (Virtual Private Network) or proxy service can add an extra layer of security and privacy to your online activities. Services like ProtonVPN, Surfshark, ExpressVPN, AtlasVPN, Avira Phantom VPN, Bitdefender VPN, Avast SecureLine VPN, and Trend Micro VPN can help encrypt your internet connection and hide your IP address. 5)surf using portable browsers or virtual machine when possible: Surfing using portable browsers or within a virtual machine can help protect your main system from potential threats. Portable browsers can be run from a USB drive without leaving traces on the host computer, while virtual machines create isolated environments for browsing that can be easily discarded after use. 6) don't rely only on Microsoft #windows Google #android Apple #mac (which are lucarative targets for bad actors) but also use other secure OS such as #linux #ubuntu #fedora: Diversifying your operating systems beyond Windows, Android, and macOS can help reduce the risk of being targeted by malicious actors. Secure operating systems like Linux distributions such as Ubuntu and Fedora offer enhanced security features and are less prone to common malware attacks. For phones there are also #Linux options such as Fairphone and Pinephone.
7) Transitioning to a dual-boot setup on your laptop, where you have the option to boot into a secure OS like Ubuntu or Linux alongside your primary OS, can provide added security benefits. By creating a direct boot option to a more secure operating system, you can enjoy the benefits of a safer online experience. FYI, I did clean-up + reboot my laptop #Windows OS i.e. I created a direct boot to #jellyfish #BigTech #BetterTech #Canonical #Ubuntu #Linux OS on my pc laptop (can be done on any pc laptop, even my Mac laptop has been set to dual boot). Previously, I have discussed cybersecurity (defined as both privacy and security) at length with references, below I have used some of those references and a few others. Two more things I wanted to mention: 1) Logically one may say privacy and security is directly linked to (psychiatry) mental health, feeling safe knowing one is safe surely has a calming effect, atleast its true in my case that's primarily why I want to run away to the west so that I can be safe. 2) Logically one may say internet usage is inherently safer than social media for adults where brain development has stopped (not kids/teens or elderly these groups their brains are still developing and/or degenerating) because you are forced to be alert by having to look for whatever it is you are surfing the net for while, social media you mostly are just getting thrown stuff at you its like the new avatar of 'idiot box' (previously a name given to telly, also TV set as such was a spying on people in 1984 George Orwell similar to Internet of Things now). I will ellaborate on internet vs social media, and the extensive harm by the latter in another post.
