INTRO

Either Orion or Eddie is winning those ghost stories bc Orion knew Aurelia, and she worshiped the god of fear, while Eddie knows Jonathan, Aurelia’s descendant and uses fear in his villain schemes. Then again, Bee is literally a demon, so….

He’s too aggressive, too mismatched to the cold and clinical world of their life. You smile and see him off, trying to be happy for him, but the worry remains, growing like ivy in your stomach.

RICHARD FIRMIN

A puppy dog in a grown man’s body, clad in designer suits and staring at you as if he would lay his life down for you in an instant. You’re used to people regarding you as a ruler, as royalty in their eyes. Even those in your inner circle see you as something that you’re not, and Richard Firmin is one of those people. You see how his eyes follow you around the room, how he leaps to his feet to help you with a flick of your fingers. You can only smile and raise a perfectly groomed eyebrow; it never stops being amusing, having such power over weak men. Despite the many lovers you’ve taken in recent years, feeding a hunger recognised in one another, you can’t help but welcome his constant presence. You enjoy the attention, and the fawning, as irritating as Philippe and Raoul may find him and his partner at times. While you’d easily dispose of the man should the time come, for the moment, you’re pleased enough to indulge him.

Strength VIII

Prince Formage, Pillar of our City.

Strong comes in many forms. For vampires physical strength comes easy. Age makes our muscles more malleable and powerful than most humans could ever wish to be. Combined with our ability to push our blood into our sinew and twinned with our voracious Hunger it wasn't hard to be strong. It was much harder to be in control.

Strength is different. To have the strength to deal with almost a hundred and thirty ego filled vampires – that was something else. That terrible duty fell to fell to one man. Only one person was the head of our city, the person behind the masquerade. His name was Lucien Formage, Clan Ventrue, Head of the Invictus and Prince of San Amaro. Our ruler and negotiator.

Everything was stacked against Formage yet he had held onto this city for the past five years with grace and patience. He was young for a Prince too, which made it all the harder dealing with those that were his elder in the blood. But this was what he had been trained to do. And he did it in away that made it feel like he was controlling anything. We had a huge amount of Kindred in our city, too many by almost three fold. How did Formage deal with this? Blood Hunts and kicking everyone out and forcing them to find new cities? No he used his business savvy to make this city strong enough to carry us. He invested heavily in it and it benefited us and the humans around us. He gave us opportunity.

When we stood with a Kindred that had suffered so much, that had been twisted and hurt and used as a weapon by our enemies, he listened. Many others would have been killed Waters just by association but he weighed to our reasoning with a judge's mind. Formage could have put him to death through fear but instead extended a hand to the traumatized Gangrel, and offered him a chance to be a constructive member of our society. Some would view that as weakness but it was compassion. It was giving trust in us and that spoke to me of strength.

Formage had a tough job, listening to much of the moaning and back biting of our city. But he did listen, no matter clan or covenant. It would have been easy to give the roles of Hounds to Ventrue or Invictus but he chose us. Our troupe, our little motley band, was a stroke of genius in my opinion if you looked closely enough.

Myself and Benny were Mekhet, and had the least voice of any clan. Gio was Nosferatu, again largely unrepresented but strong and had the most resolve of anyone I personally knew. Tara and Dee were both Gangrel who had more of a say but were from wildly different backgrounds. Tara had the Ordo which gave the Sheriff an easy ally. Dee and Benny were unaligned, normally seen as a dangerous element with the fear of another Carthian rebellion, giving them a voice meant those who were in the same position had someone to speak to without fear of being forced into a group. Gio and myself were from the Crone and one thing vampires had were long memories. Our covenant was still tarred from going against the city and joining the rebellion. All of us represented voices that were harder to hear over the masses of Ventrue, Invictus, Daeva and Lancea. It was a stroke of genius in my opinion, careful consideration and understanding.

I respected Formage for his strength and his ability. I knew it would be tested soon but I believed he would find the right course. He would see us through, I don' think anyone else could.
