Know what is the controversial law AFSPA implemented in Assam since 1990, which Assam CM Himanta Biswa is planning to withdraw
AFSPA can be removed from Assam soon, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa was addressing the Commandant’s Conference on Monday. He said the move would facilitate the deployment of Assam Police battalions in place of the Central Armed Police Forces or CAPFs. AFSPA, the controversial law in force in Assam since 1990, gives security forces the power to crack down and arrest anyone without a warrant.…

“Rahul Gandhi tried to defame India in London, but I want to him that 'you will never be able to become the PM until Modi ji is there. Says Assam CM Himanta Biswa
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attacked Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his London remark. He said that Rahul has been trying to defame India on international platforms as his comments from his speech in London are derogatory. He also said that no matter how hard Rahul tries, he will never be able to become the Prime Minister of India till the time Narendra Modi is there.
Sarma was addressing the Vijay Sankalp rally at Kanakagiri ahead of the upcoming elections, where he said, “We have to bring the Bharatiya Janata Party to power here. We do not need Babri Masjid anymore, we want Ram Janmabhoomi. Rahul Gandhi tried to defame India in London, but I want to him that 'you will never be able to become the PM until Modi ji is there.”
Rahul Gandhi’s democracy remark has rocked the parliament and several MPs are demanding that he apologize for making such derogatory remarks about the country. The debate between Congress apologizing for Rahul’s remarks and BJP offering JPC on the Adani issue is the main topic of the clash in the parliament nowadays.
The second leg of the budget session was abruptly ended by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha after there were uproarious scenes and repeated disruptions amid vociferous sloganeering by both treasury benches and opposition members.
Sarma continued to praise Modi while criticizing Rahul for abusing the Indian parliament on foreign soil. “PM Modi is working for the development of Karnataka and the rest of the country. When he travels to London or America, he praises our country. But when Rahul Gandhi visited London, he abused our Parliament,” the Assam CM said at Gangavathi in the Koppal area.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi, during an interview at Cambridge University said, "Everybody knows, and it has been in the news a lot that Indian democracy is under pressure and attack. I am an Opposition leader in India, we are navigating that (Opposition) space. The institutional framework which is required for a democracy -- Parliament, free press, the judiciary, just the idea of mobilization, moving around -- all are being constrained. So, we are facing an attack on the basic structure of Indian democracy."

A Dreamtime story from the Nuenonne First Nation of Bruny Island off the Southeast Coast of Tasmania (lutruwita) narrates how [...] a young pup [...] of the “Tasmanian tiger” (thylacine) [...] transformed [...] into corinna [...]. When lutruwita -- Tasmania, also known as Van Dieman’s Land -- was opened for British colonization in 1803, a medley of settlers -- from [...] fortune-seekers to species hunters -- made it to the island in the course of a few years. Travel guides and memoirs published at the time soon dubbed Tasmania the “sanatorium of India,” drawing many British colonists to the island who hoped to recuperate their health debilitated by prolonged stay in the tropics.
More significantly, it wasn’t only materials and bodies that circulated between the colonies [India and Tasmania]. But also ideas, impressions, and experiences gained in one colony made their way to the other. [...]
Tumblr media
Settler farmers identified the thylacine as a “blood sucking vampire” [...]. [P]olitician John Lyne -- a representative of the Tasmanian rural lobby -- proclaimed, quite preposterously, that “30000 or 40000 sheep” were taken each year by the thylacine [...]. By 1830, the Van Diemen’s Land Company was already offering a reward for the killing of [...] the “hyena” i.e. the thylacine. Likewise, Mercury reported in 1882 in a piece headlined “Tiger Extermination” that landowners declared “a reward of £5 to be paid for each full-grown tiger [...] and £2 10s, for all cubs [...]." As a result, the animal [...] was extirpated by 1936. Comparison between the thylacine and the Indian tiger abounded in settler discourses [...]. This was in spite of the fact that the thylacine and the Indian tiger were two entirely different species, morphologically and ecologically. [...] Yet early settlers in Tasmania, many of whom had first landed on or had connections in British India carried the idea of the tiger as a ferocious predator [...]. [T]hese representations of the thylacine’s “nature” were based on faulty understanding of the animal perpetuated by myopic colonial science that privileged imperial economic interests above all. [...]
---
One of the major thylacine traders in Tasmania was James Harrison. Known as the “West Coast naturalist,” Harrison purchased and sold about twenty-five live animals and twenty dead specimens of thylacine. He was born in the Nowgong district of Assam in northeast India to a family of speculators en route from England. It is noteworthy that James Harrison spent his childhood in a region in India that was known for its [...] wildlife. Game hunting [...] was [...] [a] common pursuit among the Europeans in Assam [...]. Moreover, the period saw a spike in the visit of professional hunters and species collectors to the region as vast [habitat] was being stripped off to make way for tea plantations. [...]
---
William Thomas Dennison, who served as governors of Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) and Madras in India, described in Varieties of Vice Regal Life (1870) the tiger hunts he had organized in India. Dennison’s book reinforced the idea that the tiger is a pest, an impediment to human progress, which echoed his policies towards the thylacine during his stint as the governor of Tasmania (1847-1854). [...]
---
Likewise, Sainthill Eardley Wilmot -- the grandson of Sir John Eardley Wilmot, the lieutenant-governor of Van Diemen’s Land from 1843 to 1846 -- served as a forestry officer in British India. Sainthill was born in Hobart in 1852 and spent his early life there. In My Home In Tasmania (1852), Louisa Ann Meredith mentions the presence of an “untamed” wild thylacine in Sainthill’s grandfather Sir John Eardley Wilmot’s private menagerie in Hobart. Later Sainthill Eardley Wilmot would take a particularly hostile attitude towards the tiger and other big cat species while working as the Inspector General of Forests in British India. [...] He also wrote an it-narrative about the Indian tiger, The Life of a Tiger (1911), that predicted the tiger’s impending extinction. On multiple occasions, he has alluded to the thylacine “wreaking havoc” on flocks of sheep in Tasmania. [...]
The material circulation of the living thylacine in India is little known apart from an exhibition of two live members of the species at Madras Zoo in 1886 [...]. The narrative circulation of the animal, however, has been relatively plentiful.

The Central government on Wednesday informed the Supreme Court that Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan have opposed the legal recognition of same-sex marriages in the country.
These facts were apprised to the five-judge Constitution bench hearing a batch of petitions pertaining to marriage equality rights for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Huh?? LGBTQIA+? Excuse me? When did everything after the B enter the picture?
They brought in gender identities into this and muddied the discussion. Conservatives already had their hair raised at the thought of same gay and lesbian couples and they’ve gone in and thrown in that word salad to repel them further, alienate any support or understanding exactly at the time when it’s most crucial.
And why? If a trans or ‘queer’ or intersex or asexual person wants to marry another of the same sex, then their case is already being fought for. There was no need to to bring in gender theory and a myriad of identities when the country’s leaders and lawmakers are already struggling with the concept of a man loving a man or a woman loving a woman.
Hope they feel that warm sense of inclusion when they read the headlines ‘Indian maintains illegality of same sex marriage’

Can Any Indian Citizen Buy A Property In North East India?
Tumblr media
The Modi administration declared significant modifications to legislation in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on October 26th, using powers provided to the Centre underneath the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act 2019.
The headline modifications basically allow outsiders to acquire land in J&K by eliminating legislation and statutory rules of the former state that prohibited the ownership of property in J&K to 'permanent inhabitants'.
The lifting of limitations on outsiders purchasing land in J&K has long been hailed by proponents of the Modi government's decision to terminate the former state's special status. Governor Manoj Sinha has lauded the move's industrial ramifications, while BJP politicians like Sambit Patra have enthusiastically declared on social networks that anyone may now buy property in J&K.
Non-tribal people and foreigners are not permitted to purchase land in Sixth Schedule territories, while the Northeast has various state-specific regulations.
As Article 244 of the Indian Constitution, the Sixth Schedule contains provisions for the governance of tribal territories in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram.
Mizoram and Nagaland (except Dimapur) are, on the other hand, protected by Articles 371G and 371A of the Indian Constitution, and indigenous people have land ownership rights, and several states in the area have Inner Line Permit (ILP) provisions.
The Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution empowers Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) to pass rules prohibiting foreigners from purchasing tribal territory.
Articles 371A for Nagaland and 371G for Mizoram have provided specific authority to refuse any new Acts of Parliament until adopted by a resolution voted by the state's legislative assembly and to defend their rights to their land, customs, and religion.
Inner Line Permit (ILP) is relevant in Mizoram, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh underneath the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation of 1873, which requires citizens from other parts of India to obtain permits to enter these states in order to control influx, and outsiders are not permitted to acquire property in the Sixth Schedule and other tribal areas, such as the hills of Manipur.
Prestone Tynsong, Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, stated that there are Sixth Schedule and non-Sixth Schedule territories in Meghalaya.
"There are certain provisions for non-tribal people to acquire land in non-Sixth Schedule regions, including sections of the state capital Shillong as well as some grasslands of the Garo Hills area," Tynsong added.
Tumblr media
Assam has several Sixth Schedule regions, and many parts fall underneath the tribal belt, where non-tribal people cannot acquire land. Under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, there are three Autonomous Councils: the Bodoland Territorial Council, the Dima Hasao Autonomous District Council, and the Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council.
Aside from these, Assam has 17 tribal straps and 30 blocks in the districts of  Morigaon, Tinsukia, Darrang, Sonitpur, Nagaon, Lakhimpur, Kamrup, Goalpara, Dhemaji, and Bongaigaon, and four districts under the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) where non-tribals are prohibited from purchasing land.

36 Dead In Heavy Rains Landslides In 4 Northeast States
At Least 27 people were killed in Mizoram, including 21 in a quarry collapse in Aizawl district. Guwahati: At least 36 people were killed in heavy rains and landslides in four northeastern states on Tuesday under the impact of Cyclone Remal while normal life came to a grinding halt in all the eight states of the region with road and rail links affected, officials said. While 27 people were killed in Mizoram, including 21 in a quarry collapse in Aizawl district, four deaths were reported in Nagaland, three in Assam, and two in Meghalaya. The rains, accompanied by gusty winds, triggered landslides, uprooted trees and electric poles, and disrupted power and internet services. In view of waterlogging between the New Haflong-Jatinga Lampur section and Ditokcherra yard under the Lumding division of Northeast Frontier Railway, many trains were either cancelled or partially cancelled and rescheduled. In Mizoram, at least 27 people, including 21 in a collapsed stone quarry, were killed and 10 others were missing in multiple landslides in Aizawl district. Disaster management and police officials said that 21 bodies had been recovered so far from the quarry site between Melthum and Hlimen in the Aizawl while several others were still trapped under the debris following the collapse in the morning. Six died and many others were missing following incidents of landslides at Salem, Aibawk, Lungsei, Kelsih, and Falkawn in the district. In Nagaland, at least four people died in different incidents while more than 40 houses have been damaged in various parts of the state. A minor boy drowned at a river near Laruri village under the Meluri subdivision of Phek district, while two other incidents of drowning were reported from Doyang Dam in the Wokha district, an official said. An elderly man was crushed to death after a wall collapsed in Phek. In Assam, three persons were killed while 17 others were injured in Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), and Morigaon districts. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a tree branch fell on a school bus in Dhekiajuli of Sonitpur district, injuring 12 students. Five others were injured in different incidents in Morigaon. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed grief over the loss of lives. ASDMA officials said that heavy storms occurred in the Bongaigaon, Chirang, Darrang, Dhubri, Hojai, Kamrup, Kamrup Metro, Karbi Anglong, Kokrajhar, Morigaon, Nagaon, Sonitpur, South Salmara and West Karbi Anglong districts. In Meghalaya, two persons died and over 100 others were injured as heavy rain lashed the state, officials said on Tuesday. Officials said one death was reported from East Jaintia Hills and another in a car accident in East Khasi Hills district. The relentless downpour damaged a large number of houses in 17 villages. Landslides were reported on the Shillong-Mawlai Bypass and at Bivar Road in Oakland, while flashfloods took place in Langkyrding, Pynthorbah, Polo, Sawfurlong, and Demseiniong areas. In Tripura, heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds of 50 to 60 km per hour lashed most parts of the state during the past 24 hours, damaging 470 houses and forcing 750 people to take shelter in 15 relief camps in different districts. Briefing media in Agartala, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushant Chowdhury said that during the past 24 hours, the state recorded an average of 215.5 mm rainfall with Unakoti district recording the highest, at 252.4 mm. In Arunachal Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a high alert with a forecast of extremely heavy rainfall. Chief Minister Pema Khandu requested the people to take all precautionary measures and avoid vulnerable and isolated locations. ताज़ा समाचार: Use of Cheap Fake Methods to Spread Lies About BJP Will Further Damage Congress
Tumblr media
The Congress party has stooped to a new low in the methods it is using to contest the elections. As per the latest samachar in Hindi, Reetam Singh, a Congress worker from Guwahati, Assam, was arrested a few days back on charges of making and sharing a deep-fake video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The fake video shows Shah as announcing in Telengana that when the BJP comes to power in Telengana, it will abolish reservations for SC, ST and OBC.
In the original video Shah had said that if the BJP comes to power in Telengana, it will remove the 4% reservation for Muslims given by TRS and continued by Congress in the state as it is unconstitutional.
ALSO READ| Today Breaking News: Is the US State Department Becoming More Careful While Commenting on India?
According to the latest headlines Hindi news live, the video has been shared widely by congress workers in different states such as Telengana, Jharkhand, Gujarat and Maharashtra among others.
In Telengana the fake video was shared by none other than the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy himself! In this regard he has been summoned by the Delhi Police to appear before them and answer questions regarding the sharing of the fake video by him.
ALSO READ| Today Latest Political News: Why is India Getting so Closely Involved in Armenia’s Struggle Against Regional Bullies?
Congress is at the receiving end of this damaging conspiracy
In Maharashtra, a case has been registered against those who manage the social media handles of the state's Youth Congress along with 16 others for playing a leading role in sharing this fake video.
The latest samachar in Hindi reports that in Jharkhand, Twitter has withheld the account of the state's Congress unit in response to a legal demand.
In addition to that, the president of Jharkhand Congress, Rajesh Thakur was summoned by the Delhi Police on 02 May 2024 to appear at their office in connection with the circulation of the fake video on the union home minister.
On 30 April 2024, police in Gujarat arrested Satish Vansola, who is the personal assistant of Congress MLA, Jignesh Mevani in Banaskantha as well as an Aam Admi Party worker, Rakesh Baria from Limkheda in Dhaod district for sharing the fake video on Shah.

A naïve and foolish ploy by the Congress has backfired on it
If you follow the latest samachar in Hindi you will come to know about more action being taken against people who are deliberately sharing this fake video about Union Home Minister Shah.
The question that arises now is whether the Congress leadership was aware of such a video being made by a junior level party worker in Assam or were they not aware of it?
The video was after all shared by a very senior member of the Congress and a current chief minister, Revanth Reddy of Telangana. Surely, Reddy cannot be so naïve as to believe such a statement by the BJP’s number two, Amit Shah saying he will remove reservations for SC, ST and OBCs? If he was that naïve, then it is clear that he is not fit to be even a municipal ward councilor let alone, a chief minister.
ALSO READ| Latest News World: Chinese Meddling in the Civil War in Myanmar has Affected India’s Act East Policy
The reaction of the Congress leaders including Reddy is even more comical now that they are caught with their pants down. They are saying things like, “The BJP is using central agencies to harass opponents and now it is using even the Delhi Police for the purpose”.
So what was the Congress expecting from the BJP after committing such a foolish crime? Don’t they know that the BJP is leading a digital revolution in the country and would tackle such a deep fake video immediately after it is published? If the Congress did not know even that much then it is easy to see that this party is headed for more disasters and marginalization.

As we inch closer to Phase 1 of the Lok Sabha elections, the political arena is heating up with fervent campaigning and legal battles. Here's the latest scoop:
Tumblr media
Modi's Multi-State Moves: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making waves with his strategic campaign moves. On Tuesday, he kicks off his schedule with an electrifying election rally in Balaghat district, Madhya Pradesh, marking his second visit to the state in just three days. But that's not all – Modi's Tamil Nadu tour is also in full swing, emphasizing the critical Coimbatore constituency, which BJP eyes to secure this time. With a roadshow planned in Chennai, Modi aims to rally support for BJP candidates Tamilisai Soundararajan and Vinoj P Selvam in South and Central Chennai constituencies, respectively. His itinerary also includes public meetings in Vellore and Mettupalayam, rallying behind NDA allies' candidates. Coimbatore remains a focal point for Modi, reflecting the significance the BJP attaches to this region.
Legal Showdown: Kejriwal's Bail Plea: Meanwhile, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal finds himself entangled in a legal tussle. The Delhi High Court is set to deliver its verdict on Kejriwal's plea challenging his arrest in a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. Currently under judicial custody in Tihar jail, Kejriwal's fate hangs in the balance as the court's decision looms. His challenge extends beyond arrest to contesting the remand in the Enforcement Directorate's custody. The legal battle underscores the high stakes and intense scrutiny surrounding political figures, particularly during election season.
Nationwide Campaign Trail: As Modi and Kejriwal grab headlines, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is making his presence felt in Assam. Addressing a public meeting in Lakhimpur constituency, Shah lends his support to BJP incumbent MP Pradan Baruah, vying for a third consecutive term. The day doesn't end there – Shah gears up for a lively roadshow in Tinsukia town, boosting BJP candidate Sarbananda Sonowal's campaign in the Dibrugarh seat. The electoral landscape is alive with activity as parties vie for voter attention and allegiance.
As the countdown to the Lok Sabha elections continues, the political drama unfolds with each passing day. Stay tuned for more updates and analysis as the nation braces for a crucial electoral showdown.

How Can Wildlife Tourism Help The Environment And Nature?
There have been more than its fair share of negative headlines in 2019 regarding the climate and the environment, but there have also been some positive stories about wildlife and the advantages of Wildlife Tour to India.
Tumblr media
These are some of the top stories, in our opinion:
Tigers of Bengal
The number of tigers has climbed from 2,226 in 2014 to a total of 2,967 in 2018, which is heartening news from India. By the time you read this, that number should have comfortably surpassed the 3,000 thresholds. This astonishing increase in just four years is a monument to the tireless efforts of conservationists in India and around the world, as well as the rewards of tiger tourism, without which the funding for their activities would be significantly diminished and far less effective. India Wildlife Tour, in addition to having a direct impact on park fees, also provides much-needed cash for the local rangers, guides, and lodge personnel, bolstering local opposition to tiger poaching and poisoning.
One-horned rhinoceros of India
Since 1975, the larger one-horned rhino population has grown dramatically, making it a success in terms of conservation. Only 600 rhinos remained in the wild at the time. After decades of successful conservation efforts, the species' population in India and Nepal reached 3,500 by the middle of 2015, and it is likely substantially higher now. Of the three Asian rhino species, the one-horned rhino is currently the most prevalent. Yet, the species continues to be threatened by habitat degradation and hunting for its horn. The majority of the funding used to pay for the hire of rangers and other facilities to help police the park at Assam's Kaziranga National Park came from tourism. Even the numerous visitor jeeps parked on the ground act as a deterrent to people who would kill these kinds of animals for their organs.

The humpback whale
The western South Atlantic humpback whale population has increased from roughly 450 whales in the 1950s to a very healthy 25,000 whales now, according to a Royal Society Open Science journal study dated October 2019. Surprisingly, researchers think that the present number is very similar to pre-whaling levels. This welcome growth has benefited considerably from the restriction on commercial hunting. The increase in wildlife tourism, which allowed former whaling populations to move from hunting to whale viewing as their primary source of livelihood, may be equally significant in terms of improving the sustainability of both whales and straightened coastal communities The fact that so many whale sightings occurred in UK waters in 2019 is evidence of the global whale populations' resurgence.
Steps You May Take
There is no denying that flying adds to climate change and global warming. But, by opting for a Wildlife Safari Tour Packages, you are actively preserving some of the most endangered environments on the planet. In addition to providing much-needed jobs and revenue to some of the world's poorest places, your park fees cover the wages of rangers, trackers, and park guards. The tourist infrastructure of lodges, vehicles, and guides also supports these vital industries. Due to several interrelated considerations, maintaining these forests for tourism is frequently more valuable than cutting them down for logging, hunting, or agriculture.
In addition to the advantages that such tourism delivers for wildlife, planting trees can help reduce the greenhouse gas emissions associated with flying. The Madagascar Biodiversity Partnership runs an excellent tree-planting project at Kianjavato, and Reef & Rainforest is proud to assist them. We encourage our clients (and everyone else) to support them to stimulate rainforest regeneration and help offset their carbon footprint.
