Oh, that's Eirika's artist most of the time!

Alrighty, Asatani Tomoyo. They've drawn more female characters than male characters, but if you ask me? I think they're way better at drawing male characters. Look at Berkut (ESPECIALLY Fallen Berkut), Fernand, and Innes. They draw stern faces really well. OH, and also they are GREAT at drawing highly detailed characters. Look at any of their critical portraits, especially the Seasonal characters, and they go HAM on the details and extra special effects. And anything with armor. I absolutely admire their style of lighting and their posework is powerful; it's clear that Tomoyo's only improved since first drawing for FEH. Edit: Oh, also forgot to mention I adore their artwork of Rinea. She deserves such beautiful artwork and I love her posing.

Now I'd say their weakness is that they tend to draw the female characters with a lot of the same faces. However Naga's is very different and they did a great job. But I wouldn't really fault them for that, a lot of girl characters kind of just tend to have similar faces. I don't think Tomoyo has a lot of character versatility but that doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things since every character they've been asked to draw looks great.

Overall, Tomoyo's art is an 8/10

Happy 7th anniversary to Fire Emblem Heroes :)

Despite the flaws this game has, as well as my criticisms for it, I still enjoy it at the end of the day.

Also goodness gracious I still remember in 2017, when people were talking about how there'll be a Fire Emblem spin-off game for mobile devices and stuff like that, and now look at how far we've come ;w;

after seeing some of the leaks from engage and how… like that they look, i wish they’d taken the heroes route and brought back several of the old artists

considering that engage was allegedly supposed to be released for the 30th anniversary and the whole game is centered around bringing back old characters, i feel like if they brought back artists who’ve worked on the games and are clearly still being commissioned by them, it could’ve made a really interesting effect that would help distinguish each set of games. for example, they could’ve done:

daisuke izuka - archanea

hidari - valentia

rika suzuki - jugdral

sachiko wada - magvel

senri kita - tellius

kozaki - awakening/fates

kusakihara or kurahana - fodlan

for the artists they can’t bring back, they could bring in some of the others they’ve commissioned for heroes that have made some pretty excellent stuff. wada herself already covers a lot of the elibe characters and does it well, and we also have yamada kotaro, hagiya kaoru, asatani tomoyo, and several others who’ve done some really fantastic pieces for heroes.

ultimately idk how planning the art works at intsys, but i feel like instead of the multi-artist deal they decided to bring back the worst aspects of heroes lol

Top 5 FEH artists (imo)

Wada Sachiko - Her art is so beautiful? She was also the lead artist for FE7 and FE8. FE7 just looks clean and FE8 has the dark, rugged (there is a better word but my brain can’t find it atm) look that suits the game. Also her drawing Eliwood does not disappoint because she makes him looks fucking handsome.

Kita Senri - Her art is by far the best in the series, although Echoes is a close second. I don’t know what to say except that just like Wada her art in FEH is godlike.

Suzuki Rika - I think the artist is a woman? Idk but seeing their art for FE4 characters just makes me want a remake with Suzuki Rika as the lead artist. That would be a dream come true and their art is fucking ethereal

Asatani Tomoyo - The special art is the cream on top for this artist. Fallen!Berkut has to be my favorite fallen art because of how dynamic it is. The art looks so clean to me as well.

azu-taro - Something about it is just checks all the marks for art to me. How soft the art and colors look to me just brings this artist up there for me

hi! could i please get a berinea aesthetic that specifically uses the art of them from the piece asatani tomoyo drew for the feh 3rd anniversary (the dance alt versions, not the little chibi fallen berkut in the bg lol)? i know larceis hand in that one covers a chunk of berkut but i still rly love that art ;w; thank you! (i know youve done a couple berinea aesthetics in the past so if youd prefer not to do this one i understand!)

If you’re still up for a Resplendent art review, how do you feel about Resplendent Ike? The base form not the Brave alt.

Ah... See, while I think it's weird that B!Ike got a Resplendent, I still actually liked it.

Regular Resplendent Ike though... I have some thoughts.

Resplendent Ike is drawn by Asatani Tomoyo:

The incorporation, criminy the incorporation feels so cheap and slapped on. It feels like the barest minimum was done to incorporate some Muspell attire into Ike's clothes. This was just slapped on. Like with B!Ike, I can see some effort went into making sure the blending of B!Ike's clothing format and actual Nioavellir clothing was good. But we've got like... one little splash of feathers, tiny little armor guards on the back of the hands and Muspell aesthetic slapped on Ike's existing outfit. Again, Muspell attire is very armor-centered when it comes to the visuals. Also I appreciate the choice to use blue flame for the inside of his cloak but it was not pulled off well. I suck ass at coloring, I'll admit, but the cloak looks like they picked the farthest-right of the color palette square.

Look, I think Asatani Tomoyo's a good artist, but... I don't feel like they were a good pick for Ike. The overuse of stark white on his pants and his cape and as highlights is very distracting. The posework is... ok. The expressions are all right. But it's all very middling. I think it's just the lighting/shading and color work that's poor work.

Look, I don't think Muspell is necessarily a bad choice for Ike. Muspell is all about power, raw strength, fighting to the death. And I think that fits Ike pretty well. But the way this outfit was executed overall was simply not the best it could have been.

Sadly, overall, Resplendent Ike is like a 6 or 5/10. I think this is one of the worst Resplendent designs so far.
