I was in the mood to read some Turtles over the weekend after rereading IDW's USAGI YOJIMBO first 3 issues so I grabbed the first @idwpublishing TMNT trade. My familiarity with the Turtles has always been the 90's cartoon and the live action movies. I know a lot of "facts" about the comics but I have never actually read them, so this was a fun experience. I really enjoyed the way they were able to basically start over but knowing where this all leads and ultimately becomes, they do an awesome job of weaving some of the deeper mythos into the beginning of the story. I really like Old Hob, and I thought it was a fitting opening villain for the run and I like the way the tied his history to the Turtles. Which is not something I am usually a fan of but I do like the way they connected him to Splinter and Raphael's story in non flashback form. Speaking of, Raphael is my least favorite turtle but the sides of his character and personality they show when he is with Casey Jones was pretty awesome and opened me up to the character a lot more. Kind of excited to see what they do with both of those characters and that relationship. Overall, this is a great 4 issue run, it sets up a lot and leaves the door open for a lot more.
