Have there been any other Horrorcons besides Snapdragon and Apeface?

While I could mention the Horrorcons who fought in the Universe War—Leatherhide, Blackarachnia, Nightprowler and Waspinator—I assume you are speaking specifically of the triple-changing Headmaster Horrorcons binary-bonded with Nebulans. Though, now that I mention it, I did once hear of a Leatherhide who bonded himself to… ah, my apologies, I'm getting off-track.

I believe that in at least one universe, the Decepticon forces under Scorponok did indeed include a third Horrorcon by the name of Backbiter. Like her fellows, Backbiter was a powerhouse among the Headmasters; she transformed into both a Cybertronian "flying wing" stealth bomber and an enormous, heavily armored snapping turtle. Though not as fast as some Transformers, the difficulty of detecting her jet mode allowed her to get in close to her Autobot enemies before converting into turtle form, becoming a nigh-invulnerable mobile bastion; in robot mode, meanwhile, she wielded a Psyche-Out Blaster that disrupted the brain modules of enemy Transformers to cause vivid hallucinations—something that proved useful if she ever needed to retreat from a fight.

While outwardly the least unpleasant of the three Horrorcons to be around, Backbiter was in truth a cruel and spite-driven individual who—as her name suggests—would feign politeness to others' faces while spreading vicious rumors and mockery behind their backs, taking a perverse pleasure in breaking other Decepticons' spirits while masquerading as their friend. Perhaps her only ally that she didn't treat this way was her Headmaster partner Gemba, a scheming Nebulan socialite desperate for prestige and fame, who was more than happy to ride Backbiter's coattails to a position of power.

One notable adventure saw the Horrorcons lay an ambush for the Autobot Headmasters, Backbiter using her Psyche-Out Blaster to trap them in nightmarish visions. It was only thanks to their Nebulan partners being resistant to the effects that the Autobots were able to escape and defeat the Horrorcons—that, and Hardhead's legendary stubbornness, which helped him to push through! Backbiter and the others were forced to flee, swearing revenge against the Autobots and their Headmaster partners.

wada sez: I don’t know what to make of this one. On deviantART, the writer gave the impression that this was a story “about Dreadwind’s paranoia”, but paranoia isn’t a trait historically associated with the character in fictional media so far as I can see; more depression and pessimism. Our Gherkin observes that in the Marvel UK letters pages, when Dreadwind learned he might lose the column, he did grow erratic; as Marshall is a Marvel UK fan, it’s possible this informed the characterisation here. Marshall’s remastered version of this strip from his Tales From The Matrix Keeper zine is included below.

Dear Vector Prime, How did Stranglehold’s reign as a wrestling champion resolve? Did the Autobots defeat him or did he continue to keep a…stranglehold…on the title?

Dear Champion Challenger,

Stranglehold's first and most critical loss occurred against himself. His corner crew, the Micromaster Air Strike Patrol, had been paid handsomely to cheat and influence the results—usually by bribing the referees beforehand, and gradually inserting themselves as referees later on. Over time, however, Stranglehold began to believe his own hype, and stopped paying his crew.

The Air Strike Patrol became bitter, submitting proof of their cheating behavior to various officials in order to ruin Stranglehold. Unfortunately, Apeface was head of the Unified Kolkular Wrestling Federation, and didn't care.

The incident did receive a great deal of media coverage, however, and Stranglehold was challenged by an up-and-coming Tap-Out. The intense scrutiny of the event made Stranglehold desperate. He tried doping with Nucleon, tried to power-up by standing near a ship emitting a quantum surge, and even considered a Powermaster upgrade. None of these were effective measures, and he suffered a humiliating loss to Tap-Out.

Despondent, he shaved his Pretender mustache, believing himself no longer fit to wear it. Instead he advertises "strength energon pills" and highly-addictive energon goodies in shady periodicals, which promise to "make you a tough bot" so that you can "become the load-bearing spark of your dreams". Ten out of ten medics find these claims dubious, but he has amassed a small fortune nevertheless.

wada sez: Reeves has yet to go fully mask-off from our serial archive perspective, but Christ in a catsuit this is dreck. On deviantART, Reeves commented on Rodimus’ chin: “actually it was bruce campbells chin he stole. over on my da page ive got a transformers version of the evil dead 3 dvd cover that i drew in this style and i copied rodimus' head from that. although im glad i tried something new, i think ill stick to my own style rather then these 'lilformerish' designs. should leave lilformers to the one true master mr matt molen”. Because of course Reeves would rip off noted shitlord Matt Moylan. Apparently “spanking the monkey” is a euphemism for jerking off. This is the second time Wheelie’s met a horrible fate in a Reeves comic. Observe that the Matrix is on the shelf behind Arcee in that one panel- what am I even looking at? What content warning do I even put on this—cw pure shite? See, what drives me crazy is that reactions in the comments to this piece at the time were almost entirely positive, with Josh Perez of all people chiming in as the lone voice of sanity to describe it as “awkward and not funny”. Day 18: Apeface (Transformers; Titans Return)

I wanted to try a little inking today, and I finally got TR Chromedome in the mail, so I had all my headmaster figures out to see where he fits. I forget how quaint the little apeface and his mech are! They’re a lot of fun to mess with, and make a better partner for the Earthrise Snapdragon than the siege one! (In my opinion, anyways…)

So yeah, apeface was my little muse for today’s drawing! I used to be pretty decent at inking, but it’s been a long time since I’ve fully inked something, so I’m a little rusty. I do like the combo of the black and the pink though! Good colors!
